Shroom2019 Zange.png

Hello hello and happy spring!! This is Zange coming at you yet again with more of that Pipe Plaza goodness you know and love!

So, the joys of living in Iowa mean that the weather kind just does whatever the heck it wants sometimes. I bring this up because at the beginning of the week we were under a blizzard warning, and as I am typing these notes, it is 70 degrees! But it is finally starting to feel like spring, which I am very pleased about, and I'm hoping it stays this way so that I can retire my winter pajamas for the season. The last thing I need is to shove those in a tote and then have to dig them back out again because we had a freak snowstorm in April. (You laugh, but it's happened before!!)

Yoshi18 (talk) is back with another edition of Yoshi18 Overviews for us! It's a bit of a smaller Pipe Plaza this time around otherwise, but that's okay because there's some great stuff here regardless! And don't forget that you, too, can submit an application to write a super cool Pipe Plaza section for us whenever you'd like! Just head to the sign up page to find out more!

That's all from me this time, have a wonderful read and an even better rest of your March ^^

Mario Calendar

Written by: GPM1000 (talk)

HAPPY MARIO MONTH! Well, I guess it was only Mario Day, but I think here we can celebrate for a bit longer than most people. I hope everyone has had a fantastic start to your month, but I can promise it's about to get a whole lot better… because what better way to celebrate our favorite plumber than to take a long, detailed look at his strangely obscure history?

Honestly? For the month that I deemed "Mario Month"... this is pretty sad!! There were pretty much no big mainline releases this month, beyond Super Mario 64 becoming available in Europe and Australia. The highlight looking through this for me was "Goalie Game" for Adobe Flash coming out, which I just found hilarious. These strange, obscure Adobe Flash games are my absolute favorite, and I am honestly shocked by just how many there are.

But, there is hope! Because, in just a few days, we will be getting the Nintendo Switch 2 expansion for Super Mario Wonder! Super Mario Wonder is such a fun time, and I can't wait to try out the new changes. Everything in Bellabel Park seems super cool, and Rosalina is my absolute favorite Mario character, so I will never say no to being able to play as her.

So, in general? Is it anything to write home about? No, not really. But at least it's not the worst month :) see you all in April!

To-Do Tracker

Written by: Camwoodstock, of the Seven Stars (talk)

Howdy! We've got a surprisingly significant week in here, for reasons you can only kind of tell from the chart. Not much else to say a preface, so, why don't we get into it?

Note: All dates here were taken fairly late at night in EST; around 1-3 AM EST. March 11, 2026 was collected with assistance from PopitTart (talk).

Files To Be Used 20 22 22 21 19

For some observations for how the numbers have progressed, and some potential targets:

  • There's been a huge shake-up!! You might've noticed a decrease in Construction projects, and later, stubs and rewrites. That's not because of some huge push to complete construction projects, but instead, a complete renovation of how both Construction projects, Rewrites, and Stub articles are handled. From now on, a group of more specialized {{todo}} templates will be used to more precisely track what needs to be done, sorted by category. You can find the main category at Category:Articles with to-do lists, or on the new "To-do list" entry on the To-do bar... To-do-ception! Eventually, each of the construction projects, rewrite notices, and stub notices will be converted into proper to-do lists, hence the skyrocket in deprecated templates. Keep an eye out for this in the coming weeks-to-months!
  • There's something worth noting in Wanted articles! A good few of its original top candidates have been... Well, not created, but it was decided they weren't necessary, per a proposal determining how best to cover characters originating from advertisements! The most-wanted page is no longer the Crazy grandpa from one Super Mario RPG commercial, but the Clock hand platform once again! ...Of course, if someone makes that page, it'll lose that spot, and with it being the only page left with over 1,000 links to it, let alone 1,300, its creation is only a matter of time!
  • Moves, merges, and splits actually finally start to diverge in a visible manner for the first time in awhile, as Moves actually briefly dips under 50! Each of them have a gap of about 15-or-so between one another. Merges actually briefly approaches 100 before dialing it back a bit, but not enough to not have a net gain. And, of course. splits holds steady.
  • Unused files ping pongs back-and-forth a bit, but truthfully, it's not as bad as it looks; most of those images are due to preparations for a few fairly large tables, and the sheer quantity of images involved meant that it was decided to not designate them as "Files to be used." (If we're counting this more precisely, just imagine Unused Files is sat at 100+, Files

Analysis

Which of the Koopalings are your favorite?

We got a very close poll here! Koopaling reception is a tough one to judge in general, given how in spite of their vast appearances there's still lots left in the dark with them, which makes this a fun vibes polls! Although it appears love is held more towards some than others. Bum bum bum bum. Sibling rivalry! Ludwig as the eldest child is naturally the cool one that the parent's leave to fend for themselves the most. And it looks like he fended his way to the spotlight at first place with 18.52% of the vote! Keeping with this philosophy one of the oft forgotten middle children Wendy is last with 7.63% of the vote. Not discounting those valiant 6.11% no opinioners and and 4.80% no Koopalingers, of course. Wrapping things out Lemmy got 2nd with with 15.45% voters rooting for Mario's biggest Koopaling fan. Iggy, the gladiator reached 3rd wheeling his way into the hearts of 15.02% of voters. The youngest child of the bunch, Larry reached 4th, and 11.74% of the vote proving middle child syndrome can strike at any age! Roy blasted all the way up to fifth and got 11.33% of the vote! And lastly slamming into 6th Morton arrives with 8.40% of the vote! Its fascinating seeing how you all view the Koopalings!

Who are your favorite party members to use in Super Mario RPG?

First off, 24.39% of our poll audience has never touched this classic! With all the Geno hype that seems in the air with Smash games I imagined it was much more popular than it was. Guess it shows that no matter the game there will always be people who haven't touched it! And that's OK! Its good to have varied experiences, these polls wouldn't be fun without them. Anyways the most popular team is Geno (25.14%) and Bowser (17.61%) wow! Geno is of course the icon for this game, a real bridge between Square and Nintendo, two giants who have never been quite as close since and Bowser, who first became human in this game and flicked ball and chains around like a boss, a final boss even. What's not to love? Peach (14.74%) and Mallow (12.10%) are the least popular combo. Mario works perfectly for a lot of roles, including healer. Unfortunate for a pair who specialize in healing and not much else. Mallow still feels fun and liven ups the early game quite a bit while Peach gets to speak for the first time in this game. And of course, can't leave without shouting out our no opinion voters (6.02%) thank you for your impartiality!

Mario and friends have been to many far-flung locales. Which of these distant settings is your favorite?

Ah yes! Locations! A pattern I noticed with this one is impact. Isle Delfino (14.38%) our 1st placer, as an example, has been responsible for numerous sports courses themed around the island, the iconic Piantas and Nikos and even level design philosophy. Sunshine is up there with 64 with how foundational it is to the wider 3D Mario scape. Yoshi's Island and Rogueport (11.45%) in 2nd are also impaction, being the setting of a whole sub-franchise of Yoshi's on top of being a major setting of a defining 2D platformer while Rogueport defined what Mario RPG settings could be. Meanwhile our last placers, Sprixie Kingdom (4.04%), Pi'illo Island (3.33%) and Concordia (2.58%) are significantly lacking in impact, the Sprixie Kingdom has seldom seen any reappearance outside of a few enemies as sports players, and when's the last you've seen a Pi'illoan or Concordian? However with these downtrodden settings, there is still hope for a better tomorrow, as Mario trudges forward the impact these worlds make can only grow, and in the future will remembered fondly in a poll like this.

Conclusion

It's been a wild ride but all good things must come to an end, I hope you enjoyed your time with this committee and drive safely!

The 'Shroom Report

Written by: Waluigi Time (talk)

Hello there, 'Shroom readers, and welcome to another edition of The 'Shroom Report, covering what else but Issue 227! Before I get into things, I'd like to extend congratulations to BBQ Turtle for reaching her 100th edition of Anagrams last month! That makes her the third writer in the paper's history to submit 100 consecutive editions of a single section, joining the esteemed ranks of Quizmelon with TV Tomorrow and FunkyK38 with Where in the Marioverse is Carmen Sandiego?. I remember when that had never happened before, and now we've got three of them! Anyway, thanks as usual to MightyMario for maintaining the spreadsheets so we can keep track of cool data like that without having to painstakingly count things individually.

For new readers or anyone needing a refresher, please open the box below.

Categories that are not applicable this month are crossed out.

  • First-Time Writers lists everyone who wrote their first section for The 'Shroom in the previous issue.

'Shroom Trivia
Half of the 'Shroomfests so far (Heroes vs. Villains, Sunlight vs. Moonlight, Cold Beverages vs. Warm Beverages, and Cool Colors vs. Warm Colors) ended in a 3-0 sweep across all point categories for the winning team! Compared to the half where the final score was 2-1 (Chickens vs. Pigs, Dogs vs. Birds, Beaches vs. Amusement Parks, and Fantasy vs. Sci-Fi), it would appear that the winner is more dominant when the teams are explicitly opposites.

Yoshi18 Overviews

Written by: Yoshi18 (talk)

Hey everyone! Welcome to the second episode of Yoshi18 Overviews! Guess what we're gonna overview today. Yes, that's right! Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, because it's releasing next month! LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Living the Overview

TLLTD Key Art.png

General Stuff

Gender Options

Here's the first thing everyone was waiting for! That's right! You can now make your Miis gay or non-binary! And you can choose their dating preferences! For a bit of context, for the once wondering why this was done; Nintendo did this to be more inclusive as the original Tomodachi Life lacked this feature, and thus limited some people to express themselves.

Returning Features

Now, for some short recap from the original game. You make your Mii (or import your Mii Maker), customize their facial features, height, body type, voice, personality, and choose their name, gender and dating preferences. And then there you go! You have your (first) Mii! You'll need to take care of your Miis in this life simulation game. They'll ask for various things, like food, clothes, or just playing a game! If you have one Mii on your island, they will eventually start to feel lonely and wish for me people. And then that's where you come into play! Your Mii needs company and your island needs to feel less barren. So it's time to create some new island residents! You can create anyone on your island, from your (school) (best) friend, to your teacher, to your teddy bear! So go wild! The island will grow (more active) as more residents appear!

TLLTD Island.png
Becoming Friends

Even if the people you made on your island are friends in the real world, they won't be here, or at least not at first. They need to have an opportunity to meet each other. Though, unlike the first game where you just had to hope for it to happen one day, in this game you have more control over it by dragging the people you think could (or should) be friends over to each other. And then…BOOM!…they know each other now! Once this happens, Miis will start interacting on their own. And depending on where you drop a Mii, different things might play out! Miis will sometimes requests themselves that they think two of their friends who don't know the other would be fast friends. You can help by making the conversation go about something both of them like! Unlike the first game, Miis won't go "wawawawawawawawa" when talking and instead have full blown conversations! The game takes place in real-time, meaning that even when you're not playing, the Miis will live their lives of their own.

You can make items to your heart's content! You could also design the exterior of a house, and the ground. You can create items and use them for your island! So go wild and make what you want at Palette House!

Back to the General Stuff

Little Quirks

Your Miis will have some tiny habits (also known as: Little Quirks) that somewhat separate them from others, like having a smug stance, waddling around town, crossing their arms. You can gift these little quirks to your Miis. These little quirks also change some other things, like how Miis enjoy their food. You can also give your Miis their own phrases. Try finding the little quirks that match each Mii!

Love Proposal Gone Wrong

If your Mii makes a love proposal and the other doesn't accept, your Mii will go into a state of depression. The only two ways to cheer them up is by giving them something they want (like food or clothes) or by letting a close friend talk to them. Though the latter could cause them to fall in love with their close friend (though this is also based on the gender/love interest of your Mii).

Love Proposals: The Sequence Itself

Now, you guys are probably wondering what happens during love proposals. The Mii will tell you that they really wanna confess their feelings to their love interest. First you'll have to choose the place where the proposal will happen and then the way they'll tell the other they're in love with them. Just gotta hope everything goes well! But sometimes, things will get wacky and other Miis of which you didn't even know had a love interest in your Mii's love interest will interfere with your Mii's proposal and confess their feelings to your Mii’s love interest (this can happen up to two times). In other words: they're trying to steal your Mii's love interest from them. In this case, you just gotta have luck that your Mii's love interest will still choose for your Mii, but there's also a chance that they will instead choose one of the others.

Living with Each Other

Your Miis might tell you that they think it's a good idea to live with close friend. They'll ask what you think they'd enjoy doing everyday and after you answered, they'll go their close friend and ask them what they think. If their close friend replies with the same that your Mii does, it's guaranteed that they'll live together. Up to eight resident can live together.

I hope you guys liked this episode of Yoshi18 Overviews. Tomodachi Life is a genuinely one of my favorite games of all time, so I took my heart and soul into writing this perfect overview for you guys. I'm so happy that Tomodachi Life is finally getting a sequel after 12 years! Thank y'all so much for reading! Stay safe and cya all next time!
