Template:Level Necky Nutmare is the thirty-second level exclusively for the Game Boy Color version of Donkey Kong Country, and it is absent from the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and Game Boy Advance versions. This level is the fourth level located in Chimp Caverns, being situated between the levels Misty Mine and Loopy Lights.

Necky Nutmare appears to be set in a cave and is named for the numerous Mini-Neckies that spit coconuts at Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong. There are also the normal flying Neckies that either throw nuts at the Kongs or hover in the air, allowing the heroes to bounce on them to cross abysses. Due to the abundance of Mini-Neckies, the Kongs have a rather treacherous time navigating throughout the level. Aside from the Mini-Neckies and Neckies, this level does not appear to have a special "gimmick" like many of the game's levels. Gray Krushas and Armies can also be found getting in the Kongs' way in this level.

This is the final cave level in the Game Boy Color version. In the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and Game Boy Advance versions, Manic Mincers is marked as the last cave level of the game.

Level Layout

The Kongs begin the level by heading down a few small, stair-like structures towards a lower area containing two nut-shooting Mini-Neckies. After climbing up a nearby ledge, the heroes reach a DK Barrel and a gray Krusha at the bottom of another ledge. More ledges are ahead, and once they make their way down them, they are attacked by a pair of Armies that roll from a raised piece of land behind the area. They can use a nearby ledge to climb up to the raised area, where an Oil Drum stands. After the heroes climb up a few ledges ahead of here, they encounter a few more Armies and then a low ceiling with a Mini-Necky immediately following it. When the Mini-Necky ceases to shoot nuts for a moment, they must crawl under and defeat it. A flat pathway ahead of here leads the primates to a rope that they can use to lower themselves into another area, where they can find two Mini-Neckies shooting at them on their left and right sides. The letter K sits in an alcove to the left of the rope, while a wide abyss containing two Neckies and two ropes is after it. They must bounce on the first Necky to reach the nearest rope, which can then swing them to the second Necky. They can bounce off of this foe to reach a stationary rope that can help them access a flat area of land with a DK Barrel and a Krusha on it. Three low ceilings are ahead of here that they must crawl under. Mini-Neckies try to attack them as they travel through the tight passages. They also find the letter O after the first of the small passages and a red Extra Life Balloon after the second. After crawling through the three passages, the duo travels along a straight pathway towards a Banana Bunch, a Krusha, and a barrel. At the edge of the pathway, the heroes can find the level's Star Barrel.

When the primates drop downwards from the Star Barrel, they land in a lower area with a pathway leading to the left and right. The pathway to the left leads into a dead-end with a Mini-Necky, but the opposite pathway takes the Kongs towards several bananas and a small pit. A wider pit follows here that they can only cross by bouncing off of the Neckies the fly over it. On the other side of the large pit, the primates can discover a DK Barrel and a small pit that is followed by a gray Krusha and several ledges. A straight pathway located after the ledges leads the heroes through an area with several nuts raining down on it. While they dodge the hazards, they must also watch out for an Army. The Kongs escape these obstacles after they climb up a small ledge. Near the ledge, they can find a wide abyss containing three small platforms. The first and last platforms move back and forth in a horizontal patten, but the one between them drops into the pit when landed on. It drops the Kongs to the letter N and then into a hidden chain of Barrel Cannons that sends them back upwards.

Once the pit is crossed, the heroes encounter a pair of Armies on some small, stair-like structures, which are followed by a deep alcove with a nut-spitting Mini-Necky above it. A DK Barrel also sits in the area after it. If the heroes drop into the alcove, they can find a lower area containing a Krusha and a wide pit with a few small platforms in it. The letter G stands on one of the platforms, while an Auto Fire Barrel sits near another, which can blast them into the area upwards, near where the previously mentioned DK Barrel is located. In this area, the heroes can find a flat, long piece of land with a raised piece of ground behind it. A sign indicating that the level is near complete is at the beginning of the raised land, and a Mini-Necky shoots nuts after the end of it. After passing another Mini-Necky in a higher area ahead of here, the primates enter a long section of the level. Many nuts rain down on this area, which consists of two raised platforms, one of which the holds a DK Barrel. Soon, the two friends climb down a few stair-like structures, encountering a gray Krusha and a wide pit that they can only cross by bouncing on some of the Neckies flying over it. On the other side of the pit, they can find an Oil Drum and an exit sign. If they enter the tunnel ahead of the sign, the level is completed.
