World 3-1 is the first level of World 3 of the Super Mario Challenge from Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS. It is set in the ground theme and the Super Mario Bros. game style. This level's layout is nearly identical to that of World 1-3 in Super Mario Bros. This level also shares similarities with the Super Mario Maker sample course 1-3 Remix (Athletic), another remake of World 1-3.
Mario begins the level by traversing several Semisolid Platforms of varying heights and widths, encountering a red Koopa Troopa, two Goombas, and several coins along the way. After the Semisolid Platforms are two vertical lifts, followed by four white Mushroom Platforms, as well as a ? Block containing either a Super Mushroom or a Fire Flower, depending on Mario's current form. After this is a red Koopa Paratroopa, as well as a Goomba on a Semisolid Platform, followed by two horizontal lifts Mario must use to avoid falling into the long pit below, which spans almost the entire level. After a few more Semisolid Platforms with a red Koopa Troopa and a red Koopa Paratroopa, Mario encounters one more horizontal lift above a red Koopa Troopa on the first ground since the start of the level, followed immediately by a staircase of Hard Blocks allowing Mario to reach the top of the Goal Pole.
Although this level's layout is nearly identical to that of World 1-3 in Super Mario Bros., there are a few notable differences between the two levels' layouts:
- As Semisolid Platforms are used instead of islands, Mario is now able to jump through them from below.
- This level features two vertical lifts in place of the original level's one vertical lift, as lifts cannot move as far in this game as they could in the original Super Mario Bros.
- The original level features additional islands immediately after the vertical lift, whereas this level features Mushroom Platforms.
- The ? Block containing a Super Mushroom or Fire Flower now plays the heavenly sound effect if struck.
