Gems, also referred to as gemstones, are valuable objects found in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (and its Nintendo Switch remaster, Luigi's Mansion 2 HD) and Luigi's Mansion 3. They bear a resemblance to Stones from Luigi's Mansion, though these items serve as collectibles rather than containing a value of gold.

History

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon / Luigi's Mansion 2 HD

In Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, there are thirteen gems hidden in each of the five mansions in the game, making a grand total of 65 gems in the entire game. Amethysts are found in the Gloomy Manor, emeralds are found in the Haunted Towers, rubies are found in the Old Clockworks, sapphires are found in the Secret Mine, and diamonds are found in the Treacherous Mansion. The coloration of the five sets of thirteen gems corresponds to the theme of the five mansions. Some gems can be obtained in any mission, while some can be obtained only in a specific mission or once certain conditions have been met.

Once the player has collected all thirteen gems in a mansion, they are rewarded with one of five different statues of Luigi with the gems encrusted in the stand. The player can see the gems they have collected inside the Vault, on the mansion-selection screen, when one is collected in a mansion, and when the totals and records are displayed at the end of a mission. Any statues that have been unlocked can be viewed only inside the Vault.

Luigi's Mansion 3

In Luigi's Mansion 3, there are six gems on each floor: a diamond, a ruby, a sapphire, an emerald, an amethyst, and a topaz. The gems are a different shape depending on the floor. They are shaped like beveled rectangular prisms in the Basement, brilliant-cut gemstones in the Grand Lobby, less beveled rectangular prisms in the RIP Suites, ovals in the Mezzanine, droplets in the Hotel Shops, quavers in The Great Stage, swords in Castle MacFrights, flowers in the Garden Suites, film reels in Paranormal Productions, Tyrannosaurus rex footprints in the Unnatural History Museum, wrenches in the Boilerworks, snakes in the Tomb Suites, dice in the Twisted Suites, skulls and crossbones in The Spectral Catch, dumbbells in the Fitness Center, pairs of headphones in The Dance Hall, and King Boo in the Master Suite.

Once all the gems are collected on all floors, the player unlocks Suction Shot Type-C.

Amethysts (Gloomy Manor)

Round	Every mission (except boss) and bonus	Mudroom Exterior – In the Mudroom, the player should use their Strobulb on the right door to open it. Once outside, they need to vacuum this gem down from the tree at the end of the path.
Triangle		Front Yard – The player should use the Strobulb on the flowers.
Baguette	A-2 to A-5 and bonus	Parlor – The player should use the Strobulb on the grandfather clock.
Football		Studio – The player should look into the camera to notice the gem hidden behind the leftmost curtains and a spiderweb.
Drop	A-3 and bonus	Entrance – The player should press near the right suit of armor to knock down its helmet. The player can then use the helmet to hit a painting on the left wall.
Pebble	A-3 to A-5 and bonus	Dining Room – The player needs to use the Strobulb on a safe in the ceiling.
Rhombus		Kitchen – The player should interact with the stove (walk up to it and press ) in order to start a fire. Then, the player should open the fridge to reveal this gem frozen in ice. The player can melt the ice with the stove's open flames.
Star		Foyer – In the Common Hall, the player should go to the end of the hall and use the Dark-Light Device to reveal a hidden door. The door leads to the Patio. On the Patio, the player can reveal another door along the left wall by using the Dark-Light Device. The player should enter the door to be in a new area (Under the Stairs). The player should then take the door on the left to be taken to the Foyer (behind the fish tank), where the amethyst can be found.
Octagon		Patio – The player should use the Dark-Light Device to reveal a hidden fountain next to the other two in the water.
Oval	A-4 to A-5 and bonus	Library – The player should use the Dark-Light Device to reveal a hidden globe along the left wall. The player can then shoot the globe out of the Poltergust 5000 to reveal the gem.
Spindle	A-2 to A-5 and bonus	Study – The player needs to pull down the leftmost curtains on the back wall. The player then needs to shine the Dark-Light Device on the painting to reveal the gem.
Coffin	A-5 and bonus	Rafters – This gem is on top of a dresser on the far right side of the area. The player can vacuum the gem down easily.
Mushroom		Bedroom – The player needs to burn the giant web, then go behind it to find this amethyst.

Emeralds (Haunted Towers)

Baguette	B-2 to B-5 and bonus	Garden – The player should fill up a bucket with water, then use it to water the flower on the right wall. After the flower grows, the player should use their Strobulb on it to reveal this emerald.
Football		Botany Lab – The player should fill up the bucket (in this room) with water, then use it to water the flower on the back wall. After the flower grows, the player should use their Strobulb on it to reveal this emerald.
Drop		Seedling Laboratory – After defeating all the ghosts in this room, the player should use the seed shooter to shoot the mouse carrying this emerald.
Pebble		Tower Lobby/Maintenance/West Garden – In the Tower Lobby, the player needs to reveal some invisible pipes on the left wall by using the Dark-Light Device. After that, the player needs to reveal a hidden door (with the Dark-Light Device) next to the left one on the bottom floor. Inside, the player needs to use a spiky fruit to defeat the flytrap and access the emerald.
Rhombus	B-3 and bonus	Hollow Tree – After climbing to the top and falling back down, the player needs to light up a ball of silk and use it to burn the cobwebs on the left side. Behind the web is a bucket, which the player can fill using the water in the middle of the room. The player needs to take the filled bucket to the right side and water a flower. After it has grown, the player needs to use the Strobulb on it to reveal the emerald.
Star	B-3 to B-5 and bonus	Old Graveyard – The emerald is sitting on a tree branch on the left side of the area. The player must use the vacuum to grab the emerald.
Octagon	B-4 and bonus	Skybridge – The player needs to vacuum the third plant hanging in order to get this emerald.
Oval		Rumpus Room – The player needs to walk around the doll counterclockwise in order to reveal the emerald.
Spindle	B-4 to B-5 and bonus	Solarium – The player needs to use the Dark-Light Device to reveal a chest hidden on the table.
Coffin	B-4 only	Conservatory – The player should use a bulb to float to a balcony to the right, then the player needs to use the Dark-Light Device to reveal a hidden door. When the player enters, they are taken to a bonus challenge, and the goal is to collect all eight Red Coins within 15 seconds. Upon the player doing so, a chest containing the emerald appears.
Mushroom	B-4 to B-5 and bonus	West Bathroom – After defeating all the ghosts in this room, the player should pull on the toilet paper roll on the left wall to reveal this emerald.

Rubies (Old Clockworks)

Round	C-1 to C-4 and bonus	Clockworks Court – The player needs to go all the way to the right side of the area, then they need to use the Dark-Light Device to reveal a toolbox containing this ruby.
Triangle		Warehouse – The player needs to use the Dark-Light Device to reveal a hidden green spool on top of the boxes, then they need to unravel it by using the machine in this room.
Baguette	C-1 to C-4, boss, and bonus	Clock Tower Gate – The player needs to use the Dark-Light Device to reveal a hidden toolbox in the top left corner of the room.
Football	C-2 to C-4 and bonus	Storm Cellar – The player needs to vacuum a sheet in the bottom left corner to reveal a painting. The player should use the Dark-Light Device on it to reveal the ruby.
Drop		Canyon Hall/Canyon Stairs – In the Canyon Hall, the player should take a detour down a secret passageway on the right. There is a door that leads to the Canyon Stairs. The player should notice the gem stuck on a cobweb along the right wall. The player should use the vacuum to get the ruby.
Pebble	C-2 and bonus	Quarry – The player needs to pull on the minecart twice to reveal a hole behind it. The player should go into this hole to find the ruby.
Rhombus	C-3 only	Clockmaker's Chambers – The player needs to vacuum the rug to reveal a gear. The player needs to vacuum up/blow on the gear to set the alarm clock to 9:00. Upon the player doing so, a ghost (holding the ruby) wakes up. The player must defeat the ghost to obtain this ruby.
Star	C-3 to C-4 and bonus	Roundhouse (Upper) – The player needs to cross the beams located in the middle of the walkway along the back balcony. They should then follow this walkway to find a toolbox containing this ruby.
Octagon		Roundhouse (Lower) – The player needs to use the door in the Transportation Hall that leads to the Roundhouse. After going down the first set of stairs, the player needs to continue going left into a secret area containing the ruby.
Oval	C-5 only	Gear Chamber – The player needs to cross the boxes along the right wall. (Luigi needs to reveal some of them by using the Dark-Light Device.) This leads to a hidden door containing a bonus challenge, where the player must collect eight Red Coins within 15 seconds. Upon the player doing so, a chest containing this ruby appears.
Spindle	C-5 and bonus	Maintenance Hub – The player needs to use the Strobulb on the mechanism along the wall. This causes a rope to appear. The player should grab the rope and fall into the pit below. The player should use the Dark-Light Device to reveal a chest in the center of the area, which contains this ruby.
Coffin	C-5 only	Service Elevator – After leading the Toad here, the player should pick him up and launch him toward the bottom right corner of the area. The Toad lands on a walkway, where he grabs the ruby.
Mushroom	Boss and bonus	Movements – The player needs to walk up to the window on the left, then vacuum the ruby to acquire it.

Sapphires (Secret Mine)

Round	Every mission (except boss) and bonus	Smokehouse – The player needs to use the Dark-Light Device to reveal a missing scarf, then the player needs to pull both of the scarves to reveal the sapphire.
Triangle		Fishing Hut – The gem is hidden in the bottom left corner of the room. The player needs to use the vacuum to get this sapphire.
Baguette	D-1 only	Under the Ice – After falling down here, the player needs to pick up the Toad and launch him into the shaft on the upper balcony.
Football	Every mission (except boss) and bonus	High Wires – The player needs to use the cables to cross the ravine, then the player needs to vacuum the sapphire down from the bird's nest.
Drop		Airway – The player needs to enter the Airway via the Terminal. Then, the player needs to look into the telescope and spot the sapphire being taken to a barrel on the lower area. The player needs to get to the barrel and look inside to find the sapphire.
Pebble	D-2 to D-3 and bonus	Chalet Approach – The player needs to use a flaming turkey (left of the door) to burn the ice surrounding the painting in front of the snowman. Then, the player needs to use the Dark-Light Device on the painting to reveal the sapphire.
Rhombus		Prospector's Crossing – The player needs to use the Dark-Light Device to reveal an axe in the bottom right corner of the room. After exposing it, the player needs to use their vacuum on it to reveal two logs. The player must place the two logs and Luigi on the ice to get the sapphire.
Star		Skip Slope – While sliding down the slope, the player may notice a big spinning wheel to the left. The player needs to slide behind the wheel to get this sapphire.
Octagon		Shaft – At the bottom of the Shaft, the player may notice a chain hanging on the wall. The player needs to pull the chain, opening a hatch farther up the Shaft. The player must then climb back up the Shaft to get this sapphire.
Oval		Deep Hall – The player must light a piece of coal and shoot it at the sapphire located above the door leading to the Crystal Quarry.
Spindle	D-3 and bonus	Crossroads – The player must use the Dark-Light Device to reveal a hidden minecart on the left wall. After exposing it, the player must vacuum the snow in order to get this sapphire.
Coffin		Crystal Quarry/Chalet – The player needs to use the portal located in the Crystal Quarry, which takes them to the Chalet, and the sapphire is exposed.
Mushroom	D-3 only	High Wires – The player needs to use the Coal Shooter in the Gondola to melt the ice supporting a tree on the left. After the tree falls, the player can cross it to find an outhouse, which contains a bonus challenge. The goal is to shoot a snowball at each of the three Hiders in under 60 seconds. Upon the player doing so, the sapphire is revealed.

Diamonds (Treacherous Mansion)

Baguette		Haunted Catacombs/Cliffside – The player must reach the Cliffside's B2 level and vacuum the gem down from the vine.
Football	E-2 to E-3, E-5, and bonus	Front Entrance – The player needs to use the Dark-Light Device to reveal the missing chain attached to the gargoyle. After that, the player should pull that chain, then open the safe under the stairs.
Drop		Restrooms – The player should pull the chain in the west half of the Restrooms.
Pebble	E-2 and bonus	Ice Age Exhibit/Gargoyle Roof – The player needs to pull on the woolly mammoth’s trunk to gain access to the gargoyle roof, then launch the stars into the constellation's empty slots.
Rhombus	E-2 to E-3, E-5, and bonus	Ancient Exhibit – The player should water the sprout near the door, then flash the purple flower with the Strobulb.
Star	E-3, E-5, and bonus	Aviation Exhibit – The player must pull each of the hot air balloon's sandbags.
Octagon		Nautical Exhibit – The player needs to open the chest at the end of the pirate ship.

Luigi's Mansion 3

B1 (Basement)

Gem	Room	Method of getting the gem
	Garage	Next to the red car where Luigi finds the Poltergust G-00, there is a car covered by a tapestry. The player should pull the tapestry off to reveal a blue car with a Strobulb terminal. The player should flash the terminal, and the gem pops out of the trunk.
		On the far left, the player should use Gooigi to go through the fence and use the Suction Shot to open the electric supply box, inside of which he must flash the Strobulb to release the gem.
	Elevator Shaft	In the garage, through a vent next to the red car that must be opened with the Suction Shot, Luigi must climb the ladder to the elevator shaft, then have Gooigi drop through a grate to the layer where the gem resides.
	Laundry Room	The gem can be seen in the washing machine. The player must simply aim the plunger at the machine and pull the door off to get the gem.
	Service Hallway	The player must shine their Dark-Light Device on a painting to receive the gem.
	Service Stairwell	In front of the door to the Grand Lobby is a grate that Gooigi must drop down through to reach the gem.

1 (Grand Lobby)

Gem	Method of getting the gem
	In the area to the left of the main area, there is a couch missing. The player has to use the Dark-Light Device to reveal the couch. Upon the player revealing the couch, a Jewel Rausuto appears. The player has to defeat the Jewel Rausuto to collect the gem.
	To the left of the elevator, there is a picture of the hotel. The player has to use the Suction Shot on the gear on the front of the table to reveal the gem behind the painting.
	On the second level in the left corner of the lobby, the player needs to roll the carpet up to reveal some grates. The player must then use Gooigi to slip through the grates and behind the gem. Gooigi must use a Burst to blow the gem from the wall.
	Upon the player exiting the elevator, there is a pot with the gem inside on the right. The player must use the Suction Shot on the pot to free the gem.
	In the main area behind the front desk, there is a Strobulb terminal. The player has to flash the terminal to acquire the gem.
	In the main area, there are two pressure plates near the gargoyles. The player needs to use Gooigi and Luigi to activate both pressure plates to lower the chandelier. Both must then vacuum the chandelier together to make it spin and cause the gem to suddenly drop.

5 (RIP Suites)

	508 Balcony	Luigi must look into the telescope until a Jewel Rausuto appears. Defeating it releases the gem.
	501 Balcony	In Princess Peach's room, Luigi must use the Dark-Light Device to reveal a door right of the wardrobe, leading to the balcony. Heading right leads to a gargoyle with the gem in its mouth.
	Laundry Room	To the far right of the elevator is a room blocked by a vending machine, which Luigi must remove using the Suction Shot. Inside this room, Luigi must use the Suction Shot to open a shaft in the top left corner, inside of which is the gem.
	Hallway	In the right hallway, Luigi must launch a ball from a statue to a demon head, releasing a gem.
	507 Bathroom	Luigi should clear a tapestry in the top left, then clear some debris with the Suction Shot in the following room to reach the gem.
	502 Bathroom	Luigi should remove the shower curtain, and Gooigi should drop through the grate, use the Suction Shot to clear planks of wood, and then turn the valve. Luigi should then turn on the shower to cause a box to come out of the bathtub. Destroying the box releases the gem.

3 (Hotel Shops)

	Elevator Hall	In the mall, Luigi should go through a gate above the bottom right shop, then follow the path to a chest containing the gem.
	Boutique	Gooigi should use the Suction Shot on a mannequin on the left, opening a secret door. Inside, Gooigi should vacuum the gem from the wall.
	Hallway	Right outside Kruller's office is a vending machine, which, if flashed with the Strobulb multiple times, will release the gem.
	Mall Lobby	At the top left, Luigi should use the Dark-Light Device to reveal a ladder on the left. Climbing it and following the path leads to a chest containing the gem.
	Restroom	Luigi should use the Dark-Light Device to reveal a grate that Gooigi should drop down through so he can turn off a valve, then he should be recalled and sent through a grate in the left wall. The gem is in the cubicle on the left.
