Template:DKClevelbox Ice Age Alley is the nineteenth level of the classic Super Nintendo game Donkey Kong Country, and twentieth in the Game Boy Advance remake. It is also the third level of the Gorilla Glacier area, and fourth in the remake.

In this snowy level, the Kongs must trudge up the area in a violent snow storm, making it hard to see. As the monkeys travel, they will have to swing on ropes and jump on bouncy tires to get over wide and dangerous pits. To make things harder, the heroes will encounter Kritters, Klaptraps, Manky Kongs and even Neckies, who will get in their way no matter what the conditions are in the level. Luckily, Expresso the Ostrich appears in this chilly area, and he can help the heroes fly over pits and even reach a few Bonus Levels with his flutter abilities.

Level Layout

From the start of the level, the Kongs must travel east and swing along a rope to reach a farther area. After beating a few enemies, they will find an abyss. It must be crossed with a rope swinging around. When they get over the gap, they must continue east and drop down a ledge. The heroes will then have to dodge some foes and cross another abyss by swinging on a long rope. After they defeat a few more enemies on a steep slope, they will need to swing over another abyss with three strong ropes. When they get off the third rope, the heroes must grab the letter O and swing along another rope. It will take them to the Star Barrel.

After hitting the special barrel, the heroes will land in a normal barrel and be shot to land again. There, they must jump up a few platforms and walk down a slope to encounter another abyss. With two swinging ropes and a tire, it will have to be crossed. After this, the monkeys must trudge up a slippery slope and drop down a ledge to be greeted by an area full of several platforms. They will need to slide down the area without falling to the large gaps and then climb up a high slope to find a Manky Kong. The foe should be defeated and the group must swing on a nearby rope to cross the following abyss. They will then need to grab the letter G and jump to a few small platforms. Over a small gap, they will be greeted by another Manky Kong. The foes must be defeated. When Donkey and Diddy begin to progress again, they must run down a large, steep hill to find an exit sign. Father on is the way out of the level.

Bonus Level(s)

  • Near the beginning of the level, the Kongs will jump off a small ledge near a few Neckies. As they are in the air, they must land on the Neckies and make their way to a small platform with a barrel on it. If they go into the barrel they will be in a Bonus Level, where they must shoot through several barrels, collecting many bananas. Once they are done, the monkeys can break a crate with Expresso the Ostrich in it and exit to the right.
  • To find the second Bonus Level, the heroes must find Expresso at the beginning of the level and ride on him past the Star Barrel. Trying not to lose the ostrich, they should make it to an area where they see a silver barrel next to a ledge. There, they will have to jump up and flutter with Expresso to reach a small, hidden platform with a barrel on it. When they get in the barrel, they will be taken to the Bonus Level, where they must hit three balloons, all with changing images of Extra Life Balloons, so that each picture on them matches. When this is done, the heroes will end up back in the main level and also be awarded with a certain kind of Extra Life Balloon.
