“Remember your ol' pal Dribble? I'm keeping cool with my new mode that lets you adjust a game's speed by tilting your system. When you reach the finish line, we'll see how you did on time.”
Dribble, description in WarioWare Gold

Cruise Controls is a Challenge mode in WarioWare Gold. It is hosted by Dribble and tasks the player with playing fifteen microgames as fast as possible. As such, the mode records the player's time as the score. Instead of the microgames getting faster as more of them are completed, the player directly manipulates the speed of the microgames by tilting the system up and down. It is the only portion of the game where upward and downward tilts are used. Only certain microgames of the Mash control type can appear in Cruise Controls, and none of them are Boss Games. Dribble & Spitz are present in the game, though neither of them is onscreen. Cruise Controls is unlocked after Wario Interrupts has been played once.

Gameplay[edit]

The transition between microgames

The player controls Dribble's taxi in a race against a number of black cars, and will win the race (and the mode) after playing fifteen microgames. The speed of the microgames can be manually adjusted: tilting the Nintendo 3DS up from the initial angle increases the speed while tilting the system down decreases it. The left side of the Top Screen has the Speed Gauge, a visual indicator of the current speed. The bottom half of the gauge is blue and the top half is pink. The lower right of the Top Screen shows the number of remaining microgames, represented as miles left until reaching the finish line. The middle of the bottom of the Top Screen shows the current time elapsed. At the top of the Top Screen are four Dribble dolls representing the player's lives; a departure from the Spitz dolls in the interior of the taxi in all of its other appearances in the WarioWare series. The Top Screen in general depicts the interior of the taxi. The Touch Screen shows the taxi in the center of a five lane road, with four black cars on the outer lanes.

Microgames start with the Touch Screen zooming into the taxi. If the player wins a microgame, a rainbow appears on the Top Screen and the taxi surges ahead to another set of black cars. If the player fails a microgame, they lose a life, a thunderstorm appears on the Top Screen, and the taxi falls back until it reaches another set of black cars. Additionally, ten seconds of penalty time is added to the elapsed time. If the player passes the fifteenth microgame, the taxi surges ahead of the black cars and crosses the finish line. This occurs even if the player loses their last life on the fifteenth microgame. If the player loses their last life in any other circumstance, the taxi falls behind the black cars, spins out, bounces around the road, then skids off the bottom of the screen. The mode ends without recording a score.

Microgames increase to Level 2 when there are 10 microgames left, and to Level 3 when there are five microgames left. This is not announced to the player in any way.

The speed of the microgames continues to change in response to the tilt of the system even when the game is paused and on the mode's results screen. The Speed Gauge does not update while the game while the game is paused, but does while the game is on the results screen.
