Spear Guys in their debut and it's sequel.

Spear Guys are tribal Shy Guys from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Yoshi's Story, and Yoshi's Island DS. Spear Guys are identical to Shy Guys, though they wear grass skirts and feature war paint on their masks. They can be thought of as primitive Shy Guys that form tribes in the Piranha Grove and other, typically forested areas. When confronted with danger, they will attack with spears. Basically, they are the Yoshi's Island variant of similar enemies such as Chuck Guys. Yoshi's Island's Spear Guys needed to be hit by an egg or eaten from behind to be defeated.

In Paper Mario, Spear Guys (In that game known as Jungle Guys) reside on Lavalava Island, specifically in Jade Jungle. Unlike Spear Guys, Jungle Guys lacks feathers and shields, and have a different spear. It is unknown if these Spear Guys have any allegiance with King Bowser. Their spears always do three damage. After throwing them, they become normal Shy Guys, and do either 2 or 3 damage, depending on its attack.

Mario Recreation Series

Mario Power Tennis

Spear Guy makes a cameo in Mario Power Tennis. Here, for his offensive and defensive power shots, Shy Guy will transform into Spear Guy and use his spear to hit the ball.

Mario Hoops 3 on 3

Though an official Spear Guy does not appear, for a Fly Guy's Special Shot, the Fly Guy wields a spear that turns the basketball yellow with electricity. This move is made by tapping an S shape on the touch screen and is called the Thunder Shot.

Mario Party series

Spear Guys appeared in Mario Party 7 as an orb (the Spear Guy Orb) and in Mario Party 8 as the shop owner in Donkey Kong's board. Mario Party Advance's Jungle Area also featured a class of hula-dancing Spear Guys (perhaps a reference to the Dancing Spear Guy sub-species from Super Mario World 2) led by a female Spear Guy named Hulu.

Trivia

The grass skirt and spear-wielding Shy Guys from The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! episode "Jungle Fever".
  • The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! episode "Jungle Fever" featured spear-carrying, grass skirt-clad Shy Guys identical to the Spear Guys. These unnamed Spear Guys, who took residence in the Amazon Jungle, predated the actual ones by many years, though, but it is possible that they were their inspiration.
