Virtual Boy - Nintendo Classics is an application for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. It features a library of Virtual Boy games, and requires an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription to use. It was announced in a Nintendo Direct on September 12, 2025, and was released in most markets on February 17, 2026.[1] Its launch marks the first time Virtual Boy games have been released outside of Japan and the Americas, and their first time being re-released overall.

To properly view the application in 3D, an additional accessory is required: either Virtual Boy for Nintendo Switch 2/Nintendo Switch, a full-scale replica of the Virtual Boy hardware, or Virtual Boy (Cardboard Model) for Nintendo Switch 2/Nintendo Switch, a simple cardboard-based accessory similar to the Nintendo Labo Toy-Con VR Goggles. Both accessories act as holders for the user's console, allowing 3D visuals to be viewed. While the original Toy-Con VR Goggles are not officially supported by Nintendo for use with the application,[8] they can still be used on Nintendo Switch. Conversely, the Virtual Boy accessories are compatible with Nintendo Labo VR modes in games such as Super Mario Odyssey and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.[9]

A planned post-launch update in 2026 will add the ability to change the color of the game visuals, including yellow, green, and white as color options. The red lens cover of the Virtual Boy replica accessory must be removed in order to use this feature properly (with no adjustment necessary for the cardboard model).[10]
