Big Fire Piranha Plant[edit]

Hi Time Turner. I remembered you mentioned that you had the New Super Mario Bros. 2 eGuide, so if it's not an inconvenience, I would like to ask if you can please check something. Does it name this enemy Big Fire Piranha Plant or Big Venus Fire Trap, or neither as the case may be? LinkTheLefty (talk) 00:50, 6 May 2015 (EDT)

Huh. Can you go ahead and add the page/tab reference over to that article? (It may have to be renamed to one of the alternate titles, since Big Fire Piranha Plant also isn't in the New Super Mario Bros. Wii Prima guide, and it's such a rare enemy that I don't imagine it being identified by name anywhere else. The article was moved from Big Venus Fire Trap to Big Fire Piranha Plant to match its smaller species, even though that proposal wouldn't cover this). LinkTheLefty (talk) 19:50, 6 May 2015 (EDT)

Re:FX Badges[edit]

We have a lot of pages for minor RPG items, though, so I don't see why Attack FX Badges should be treated differently. Binarystep (talk) 21:18, 9 May 2015 (EDT)

Merluvlee prediction template?[edit]

Hey, Time Turner. AglT made this neat collapsible table for Merluvlee's predictions, but I'd like to turn it into a template for the badge pages (and same goes for my item drop tables, too).

I'm not all too familiar with template building, but since you seem to have a grasp of them, maybe you could have a shot at this? --Zootalo (talk) 20:51, 17 May 2015 (EDT)

Hmm, good point; I'll leave the predictions in the sections. And for that reason, I don't suppose my badge drop tables don't need that treatment either, huh (I'd do it to trim text characters, but the badge pages don't have that much text to begin with anyway. =P)? --Zootalo (talk) 21:08, 17 May 2015 (EDT)

Re:Names[edit]

Sure, I'd be happy to help out! I'll go down the list and point out any corrections, additions or otherwise points of interest in greater detail soon, but just a question about it first: I notice there's a fair amount of foreign names listed here. I know the purpose is to search official names, but perhaps this can be separated to make the tags clear? The overall goal may be the same, but the conjecture, partconjecture, refneeded and anotherlanguage templates would suggest there is different priority involved. LinkTheLefty (talk) 16:36, 18 May 2015 (EDT)

Okay, fair enough. The reason I bring it up is because some of them are inevitably going to be fruitless, particularly the strictly Japan-only material such as the Mario & Wario names (of which there is much more stuff under the stage, block and enemy sections in that article). Possibly, we can at least rename those individual stage articles (for example, moving Balloon Bridge to "Level 7 (Mario & Wario)"), but doing so as things stand wouldn't be totally congruent with the areas which were reused later in the series (for instance, the eighth level area, Karakara Sabaku, was translated later on under the more familiar title of Dry Dry Desert), unless we decide to split off all the shared worlds. Anyway, I've added a reference for Buddy Barrel in the DK Barrel article, which I'm pretty sure is exclusive to Donkey Kong Land (most probably because the partner system works a little differently on Game Boy), so you can go ahead and cross that out. I'll get back to you with more.

P.S., regarding this - actually, that source only uses "Blurp" in reference to the overgrown Yoshi-eating fish, but it's never used to refer to the smaller ones which appear in a separate location, which are also included and grouped together in that article (in my opinion, rather haphazardly). I've added my preliminary thoughts on how to address this on the talk page wherein I kind of agree with Binarystep, but of course there is plenty of room for rethinking the best approach. Right now, I believe at the very least that the smaller "Blurp" needs to be booted out of the article, especially since we're talking about three very distinct enemies and it's barely covered.

P.P.S., regarding that - I don't think deity is quite the right word Goolgenerade was looking for, and from the revert, it seems you thought I was blanking it (correct me if I'm wrong); if it's not clear, (-) suggests it translates to the same thing as the article title, not a blank. It's used in other articles (like here), but looking closer, I don't think there's a formal rule on its application... So yeah, my intention was really to replace the word "Deity" with "Genie." LinkTheLefty (talk) 18:18, 18 May 2015 (EDT)

Okay, I'm going to do this going down the list one-by-one...

  • Club Nintendo - I haven't read these, but are we sure that those names aren't in the original German? Seems a little odd to me, so it's probably worth another look.
  • Donkey Kong (GB) - Looking back, it seems Fizzle responded about Dōryī (although I disagree about that "let's worry about the sources later" mentality, because if stuff keeps getting put off, no one's going to do anything about it, and how much longer is “later”?). These scans still need to be applied to the article as references, but I think it's safe to say that Dōryī, at least, is safe (I'm also not sure how Nitpicker is partconjecture).
  • Donkey Kong Country cartoon - Seeing as how King K. Rool has a mild habit of renaming his potential protégés "Junior" (as what happened to Baby Kong in his second episode), “Junior the Giant Klaptrap” can be avoided altogether by moving this article to “Klaptrap (character)”, since that's how the character was originally addressed. If we use in-game names above all else, then reason stands we should go by what's verbally spoken in the show over some other unclear source.
  • Donkey Kong Country 3 - On page 32 of the Nintendo Power guide, the “Buzz Swarm” is referred to as a “swarm of killer bees,” “killer bees,” and simply “bees” (I never really made the connection that these were miniature Buzzes – the sprites just looked like little blobs to me). “Shell Missile” may also come from this quote on page 92: “Barbos will retreat downward, to a lower cavern and will launch homing missile shells at you.” After a couple sentences, it states, “You must use these missiles to knock out her second set of shields.” There's nothing on the Banana Bird barrier.
  • Donkey Kong Jungle Beat - I did come up with a potential solution to mitigate the foreign names here; it's technically allowed by policy, but it may just be on the fringe.
  • Game & Watch - Cement Factory Worker should be “Driver”, as that's the name in the first page of the Tabletop version manual and I think the first page (or cover) of the Wide Screen version.
  • Luigi's Mansion - I don't have a quote off-hand, but as you can see in the talk page, Boo Woods is directly name-dropped in Partners in Time, in the past. The problem is that this is implied to be the location he ends up in the present time (or the events of Luigi's Mansion), but it's never stated.
  • Mario & Wario - There's much more, as I've pointed out... I'm also considering splitting the Time Kinoko and maybe the Star since they work a little differently than their counterparts here.
  • New Super Mario Bros. - There's no citation for Blockhopper? I believe Glowsquid mentioned having the Nintendo Power guide for that one. You can try asking him. As for Raining Debris, there's now a proposal for merging it with the extremely similar Meteor from the Galaxy games, and it doesn't seem to be that contentious of an issue, so you can probably look forward to crossing that off soon.
  • New Super Mario Bros. Wii - Since the Koopalings' Palutena Guidance in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U introduces the idea of mass-produced Junior Clown Cars, the Mario/Hero Car article can probably be put in that article. (Both Junior Clown Cars are unnamed in the Prima guide).
  • Nintendo Comics System - I haven't gotten around to it, but the Mushers are obviously early depictions of Toads. I actually wrote proposal notes on this in advance and lost it, but I distinctly remember one of my points being that Wooster shows up drawn naked at one point, and he looks just look one of them and no one bats an eye (probably an error, but an indication that they're the same species nonetheless, and we have him as a Toad). Barring that, they're occasionally referred to as “Mushrooms”, which is very likely a reference to the Toad/Mushroom Retainer description in the Super Mario Bros. manual (“Seven Mushrooms...”)
  • Paper Mario - Isn't Shy Guy Army the same thing as the Shy Squad (as the possibly-misplaced Spanish name would suggest)?
  • Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door - Didn't Binarystep want to eliminate hypothetical parent species (particularly the Puff species thing)? Craw may be this.
  • Super Mario 64 - We now have an official name for Tuxie's mother! We also have a Japanese name for the Cork Block...it's just Block. Actually, that may be its English name, too, since the instruction booklet states the following: “Press the Z button while jumping to squash enemies or to destroy blocks.” (pg. 15, under Pound the Ground), so the article could easily be “Block (Super Mario 64)” using that quote. I'd wager these are really just reimagined Brick Blocks; it can alternatively be merged with that article since they look like them in Super Mario 64 DS and it's not that unusual anymore to have them on the ground. Anyway, Kuromame and Pyro Box need to be added. The latter seems to have been named here – the author also likes to call Kuromame “Great Balls of Fire.” (Skull Crate also isn't listed in the guide, so that may also need to be added to the list, and “Unagi the Eel” needs to be fixed [it's Unagi and Unagi the eel, but not Unagi the Eel].)
  • Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 - Every World-e level has an unofficial (conjectural) nickname from an English-language hack. Does that count?
  • Super Mario Bros. - Fake Bowser? Looks like someone added it, probably mistaken for the previous article's conjectural name, and said person then GAVE UP! I think it's safe to disregard that name.
  • Super Mario Bros. 2 - The Dream Machine (which was listed as “Nightmare Machine” for a while) now has an official name cited (it's also used in Super Mario Bros. 2 Inside Out). I can't reference it right now, but I'm pretty sure the Prima guide for Super Mario Advance also used Dream Machine (it also, incidentally, correctly translated Pidgits as a type of crow rather than generic birds). I think Nightmare Machine is a relic of young wiki/community embellishment, sort of like calling Mario's Castle "Wario's Castle" despite that never being the name at any point.
  • Super Mario Bros. 3 - A citation has been found for Directional Lifts!
  • Super Mario Land - Looks like we also need Goombo.
  • Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins - Biriron now has a known English name.
  • Super Mario RPG - Wish Star was mistaken for conjectural, but it actually is named in the official guide. I don't think frog is really conjectural here, since that's what Mallow believed himself to be having been raised around them. Also Peach's frying pan is just named “Frying Pan” in Super Mario RPG... If it's considered the same as the Smash Bros. incarnation, it should be called “Frying Pan (Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars)”, but on the other hand, it's already listed separately under equipment. Mole definitely seems to be the right name for that species, since it's the term used in the Moleville sections.
  • Super Mario World - I added a citation needed on Skull Box since I didn't see it in Mario Mania (they're described as “hatches” on page 96). I also added one for the Red Skull Box from New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Luigi U to match.
  • Super Mario Sunshine - Tanooki's in the same awkward boat as Boo Woods (name's official, but application may not be). There's also a pageneeded for Klamber's alternate Nintendo Power guide name, “Scuttle Bug” (which, if we're following policy, should make the enemy “Scuttle Bug (Super Mario Sunshine)”, but apparently we're making an exception).
  • The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! - Mama Mario's bugging me, because we already know that the official name is just “Mama” (contrast “Papa”), but for some reason no one's doing anything about it after all these years. Apparently, there was a popular wiki member who said the name came from a specific segment, but upon subsequent viewings of her appearances there's not one utterance of Mama Mario (Grandma Mario, however, is legit and the characters even quip about it, so I think the two just got confused). Anyway, I'm thinking the Clog Monster can get away with being called “Monster (The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!)” if we reference David Horowitz's stilted line, “You've created a monster.”
  • Wario Land II - Since we're factoring some partconjecture articles, it needs to be mentioned – you can add just about every level except for the Really Final Chapter since all the treasures were given conjectural names. The Giant Snake and Dunk levels also contain the conjectural transformations “Egg Wario” and “Ball Wario” respectively. Inamazu, Togemen, Tsuriuo, and Mecha Kuri should also be on the list.
  • Wario Land 3 - I'm confused with the Bird enemy, just like Nitpicker. I don't think what is clearly the same enemy needs a citation for a second appearance to reinforce the previous name, because if we did that, a lot of unnamed cameos or appearances (such as the Skeeter in Mario Party 3) would be considered partconjecture under the same rationale... Also, just like Wario Land II, just about every level except The Temple has an unsourced name for a treasure. Apparently, it comes from here, wherein the author says they were translated from one of the Japanese guides.
  • Wario Land 4 - We also need a English source for the following enemies: Bow Balloon, Butatabi, Deburina, Dice, Harimen, Harimenzetto, Hiyoko, Hotaru, Imomushi, Iwao, Kaentsubo, Marumen, Menhanmā, Men'ono, Moguramen, Onomī, Ringosukī, Robo Bird, Shieragutchi, Skeleton Bird, Tobawani, Toge, Togenobi, Togerobo, Tonkachi, Totsumen, Toy Car, Utsuboankō, and Yūrei. We may also need a citation for Spiked Head, Spike Cannon, Pig Head Statue, PET Bottom, and Mayu Bird (also Frog Switch, which is currently citation needed).
  • Wario World - I know Witch (Wario World) needs a citation.
  • Yoshi's Island DS - Zeus Guy still needs to be checked by someone with the Nintendo Power guide (we've gotta cover all our bases).
  • Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 - Biting Bullet Bill needs a reference that, in all probability, doesn't exist (honestly, would anyone care if it were merged with Missile Bill?).
  • Yoshi's Story - I don't think Spiny Fish is needed since it comes from the official NoA website. I did, however, add Blurp as partconjecture, due to the Blue Blurp name and the question of whether the name really applies to the smaller ones.
  • Other - It seems that the article names “Moneybag” (the item from Super Mario Land 2) and “Money Bag” (the enemy from Super Mario 64) were swapped...

Whew, that's all for now! That should be most of it, but if anything else comes up, I'll let you know. LinkTheLefty (talk) 05:01, 20 May 2015 (EDT)

Okay, so to summarize, here are a few TL;DR adjustments for the list at the moment (I would edit it for you, but I'm not sure if that's allowed and I don't want to accidentally mess with it)...

Remove:

  • Junior the Giant Klaptrap is now Klaptrap (character).
  • Cement Factory Worker is now Driver.
  • Cork Block is now Block (Super Mario 64).
  • Tuxie's mother is now Mother Penguin, from the Player's Guide.
  • Fake Bowser came from an iffy user, so I removed it.
  • Directional Lifts has a proper citation now.
  • Biriron is now Jack-in-the-Box (enemy).
  • Wish Star had a source from the Player's Guide, so it's not conjecture.
  • Moles (albeit lowercase) are also used in the Player's Guide, so that's probably good enough.
  • Spiny Fish is cited from the official English website.

Add:

  • The above from Wario Land II.
  • The above from Wario Land 4.
  • The above from Mario Pinball Land.
  • Goombo from Super Mario Land.
  • Kuromame from Super Mario 64.
  • Pyro Box from Super Mario 64.
  • Skull Crate from Super Mario 64.
  • Skull Box from Super Mario World (and the Red Skull Box from later games).
  • Witch (Wario World).
  • Zeus Guy from Yoshi's Island DS (might be in the Nintendo Power guide, since it's possible Prima gave it another name [like they corrected Klamber]).

Possible changes to look out for:

  • Raining Debris might be merged with Meteor in the near future, removing the conjecture tag.
  • Fizzle responded with a Game Boy Donkey Kong scan or two to prove his point, so that can be applied to the articles.
  • Donkey Kong Jungle Beat has some what Naming may consider "development names" in English, but I'm waiting for the go-ahead since I don't want any backlash.
  • We already have a more straightforward name for Mama "Mario", but there's currently a conflict due to the Mama disambiguation (even if Mama Mario was said in passing once in a very obscure clip, wouldn't our Naming policy dictate the Super Show! is a lesser source anyway?).
  • "Fifty-Mile Musher" (I believe) is used in a derogatory manner by Bowser just like "Truffle Toes" in Mutiny on the Fungi, but it's obviously not the real species name. They are better known as "Mushrooms" in other comic stories; given the observations, they can probably be merged with the Toad species, or at least given the name "Mushroom (Nintendo Comics System)" or "Mushroom (people)". I'm not sure which course of action would be preferred, so a proposal is probably a good idea.
  • Biting Bullet Bill from Super Mario Advance 3 really uses the same principle as Missile Bill except for the wakka wakka thing. Does anyone care about it?
  • The Time Kinoko and Star from Mario & Wario might be different enough to warrant their own articles from Mushroom and Super Star.
  • I don't have the Nintendo DS New Super Mario Bros. guide, but I think Glowsquid does. He can probably check if Blockhopper is in there.
  • The Mario/Hero Car can probably be considered a "mass-produced type" Junior Clown Car without too much conflict, so merging would eliminate conjecture.
  • I might do something about the Yoshi's Story Blurps since I really think three enemy variants is a bit much for one article.

I think that's the gist of it, so I hope that's a bigger help. LinkTheLefty (talk) 17:40, 20 May 2015 (EDT)

Sorry for the delay. I added the remaining names for you: Mario Castle, 1-Up Heart, Slot Machines, Bunny Ears, Space Zone Entrance, Mario Land Tree, Micro Mario, and Hippo Stage. They didn't end up changing existing article names, though, so they're more like alternates. Still a neat set of scans, though. LinkTheLefty (talk) 23:55, 2 June 2015 (EDT)

Yeah, that's what I get for trying to pull off huge overhauls of pages when I've gotten like no sleep all day. I actually do own the guide, which I had been looking through over the past few days to find where it was mentioned. As it turns out, the name of the page is actually just "Polluted Piranha", so the page has been moved and the page number of the guide where the name is mentioned has been added.

RE:SMRPG[edit]

It looks convincing, but that's an unofficial fan-translation patch. The group was Alemanic Translations. LinkTheLefty (talk) 18:50, 21 July 2015 (EDT)

There is a PAL version for Wii, but Nintendo's pretty lazy so far when it comes to actually translating and localizing region-specific games through Virtual Console unless they already have an in-progress or finished version internally (like Sin & Punishment and EarthBound Beginnings worldwide, or Advance Wars: Days of Ruin in Japan). Searching around, I couldn't find any references saying that there was a unique German translation exclusively for Virtual Console. You can even see the added credit for Alemanic Translations right under the copyright on the title screen (the fan-translation was also apparently last updated around the date of that playthrough, and I doubt an official German Wii Virtual Console localization exists if those fans bothered to complete their own version years later). Atomic Boo goes on a picnic[edit]

It was listed under this since it actually passed. Although it is up to the proposer to decide when changes are enacted, I think a month is long enough for me to start working and actually get the initiative. I believe you forgot about it or had other issues in mind, so I did it. You're welcome, though! :) Mario Green.pngKaBoom! 17:58, 24 July 2015 (EDT)

Yeah, it's a lot of work because we don't finish our old ones and we start new ones. It's a thing a lot of wiki editors have to go through, as I myself have a slew of stuff I haven't completed and abandoned long ago. I'm terribly consistently inconsistent. Mario Green.pngKaBoom! 18:11, 24 July 2015 (EDT)

On Elder[edit]

If moving the Super Mario RPG elder to that article is the better option, do you think adding an Elders category would be a good alternate way to organize elder characters in general? (Also about this - since the page factors all the "Big Boos" in the Paper Mario series, I'd say that's right.) LinkTheLefty (talk) 20:20, 24 July 2015 (EDT)

I think "elder" could be summed up as an older person respected in a community as an authority figure, and I believe the term comes up often enough in the RPGs for it to be noted somewhere... Yeah, I made the wrong judgment as a disambig. LinkTheLefty (talk) 20:48, 24 July 2015 (EDT)

Lakitu (Mario Party Advance)[edit]

I'll explain why I moved it back. There is already a character named Lakitu and there is not two different Lakitu's just because it's a different game. There is only one Lakitu ever and that's also why I think it should be merged. PowerKamekSignature.png (talk|contribs) Kamek Power! 23:14, 31 July 2015 (EDT)

Hi!

The reason that I supported the feature was because I felt like it did show a good example to other users on how a Mario Kart Track should look. It has a decent amount of images, trivia points, etc. So basically, the points that you made were valid, just not that much of a problem. Thanks! The use of "will"[edit]

  • So basically, you're saying that using the word "will" is not advised in any way, right? But what if a sentence is like, "The more it is charged, the farther he'll travel, but the attack's power will not increase unless it's fully charged."? Comic sans[edit]

The omission of the comic sans font in proposal archives was intentional. I thought I'd just stop its usage all together since it's (in my opinion) inappropriate for this kind of thing. Mario Green.pngKaBoom! 14:46, 18 December 2015 (EST)

RE: Stubs[edit]

When I see an already short article get split even further, I feel that the new article will fall into obscurity and may cause confusion. I understand the need to split, but split if it is necessary, kind of like a talk section I got started on Diddy Kong Racing that no one replied to yet and splitting very long articles. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 21:54, 31 January 2016 (EST)

Thank you so much[edit]

... for providing name sources to the enemies of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze! I've got one question, though... does the Prima guide for this game eventually mention urchins? They appear in the underwater levels, but there is not written an article for them. I just want to make sure the name provided by the wiki is official. Thank you again, sir ! -- -- ByeGuy1.png ByeGuy.png ByeGuy2.png 09:03, 2 February 2016 (EST)

I am happy that you gave me such a delightful answer, since I was not sure whether some elements from the game even have names. But now that you tell me even the most generic features are named, and that you offer me the possibility to ask more about the game, I am curious about the names of:
  • the watermelon bombs commonly found throughout the game;
  • the green pufferfish summoned in the battle with Fugu;
    • the spiky shell creatures guarding the arena where the same boss is fought;
  • the water balloon-like fruit that one can encounter in Bright Savannah;
  • the objects that reveal collectables if ground-pounded near (do they have a general name?);
  • the Tucks that do not wear trousers and bounce on jellies (I named them Bouncy Tucks, but that is probably conjectural);
  • the enormous fish from Twilight Terror;
  • the secret exit portals.

Also, how do Green Finleys exactly look like? I don't remember any of them in the game... Perhaps those green fish thrown by Pompy are Finleys?

I assure you I'll start working on their articles as soon as I can. Along with Barrel, I really wish to make Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze a featured article! Thank you for your patience. -- -- ByeGuy1.png ByeGuy.png ByeGuy2.png

Hey there ![edit]

Thank you very, very much for your hospitality and aid in my work. I have already created pages for Green Finley and Green Fish. Be sure I am going to contact you if I ever need anymore help. Thank you again!

Also, WHAT?? These large fish are, like, the main hazard in Twilight Terror. They leap out of the water in an attempt to devour you. How come they are not mentioned in the book?

P.S.: Whenever you feel like it and you can, you should get DKCTF. It's a masterpiece of a game, and this stands as reason for why I started taking care for this very game on the wiki. Oh, and do not get bewildered by the ugliness and dumbness of DK as a character - it's got nothing to do with the game's artistic value. -- -- ByeGuy1.png ByeGuy.png ByeGuy2.png

Sleeping is overrated[edit]

I have had some insomnia sometimes, but I feel it wasn't as bad compared to my high school days. Regarding what you try to do at night, you're probably a natural at being a zombie. I think I prefer pancakes over waffles because waffles are messy and their stupid holes always catch the maple syrup. I haven't had either in a while, though. When I eat breakfast, I eat whatever, like sometimes cup noodles, bacon, sunny-side up eggs with green onion and soy sauce, pasta, tuna, mac 'n' cheese, cereal, or whatever I can find in the pantry. Saying hi[edit]

Anything you're doing in the meantime? I'm sure things are noticeably different around here nowadays, but well, you got to continue working. Have any plans right now? Mario Green.pngKaBoom! 19:43, 6 April 2016 (EDT)

I dunno, I've noticed your message on my twin's talk page and I can't help but respond to you because I feel the exact same way. The same Shroom articles to write, the ludicrous amount of homework (math especially, it's one of my weakest subjects), but there's also 2D and 3D art I need to make), and, something specific to me, making game mods and making sure they freaking work. I'm in the process of updating my Baby Mario Bros. hack for New Super Mario Bros. Wii and I'm *almost* done with making Baby Mario actually look distinct rather than a palette swap (stupid transparent textures freaking hell). And when you're submitting stuff to more communities, the more people want from you. Graagh. BabyLuigiFire.png(T|C) 20:09, 6 April 2016 (EDT)
I can't really clock out of it, considering that I go to community college and I need GEs to transfer. Statistics isn't the worst math subject I took (that honor goes to Algebra 2), but it's really dry and there's so much things you have to remember and crap. Actually I think my least favorite class overall is actually literature because even though I dislike crunching numbers, at least it's kinda engaging and gets you thinking. For literature, they make you read (in my opinion) really boring stories. I had to drop out because I couldn't take it any more. I think that year I also dropped Statistics as well (yeah I'm taking Statistics twice) but I don't remember. School kinda gets in the way of my other work stuff, and taking two art classes is like, wow I have to do these two art projects done in time. Art is a lot of work as well, and time is probably the most important thing about it. I sit in bed at night thinking what should I do, and I wish I can just drive and race in Mario Kart past my problems. BabyLuigiFire.png(T|C) 13:45, 7 April 2016 (EDT)

Hello, and sorry for bothering you[edit]

I am back here to ask you more about official names for things in DKCTF. Remember when I asked you how are "the objects that reveal collectables if ground-pounded near" called generally, and you requested me to elaborate on this? Well, I have recently consulted the Donkey Kong Country Returns Prima Guide, to find out they are called "containers". Essentially, these are objects in the immediate background, around the size of Donkey Kong, whose ground can be pounded in order to make them reveal items. There are many of these objects in the game, and although they may look different, they function exactly the same. However, seeing how they are named differently according to their appearance (Plump Yellow Fruit, Purple Glass Vase...), I decided to kindly ask you for their official names. I have uploaded pictures for each container in the game, so as to give you reference. Here I go:

I ask you all this because I plan on writing an article for containers, at the time I pen these words. Oh, and if we are already at it, do you remember how I asked you about how the fish in Twilight Terror are called, and you answered that there is no mention about them in the Prima Games? Well, I have to tell you they can also be found in High Tide Ride, snatching the path from beneath. Can you please check a little more to see if there is any mention of them in the book? Here I have some more images you can refer to:

If you cannot find official names for these fellows, I'm just gonna call them Gargantuan Gills and set the name as conjectural.

I'm looking forward to a reply from you. It does not have to be quick, since I aknowledge you are busy at the moment. I wish you the best results in school! -- -- ByeGuy1.png ByeGuy.png ByeGuy2.png

Balloon[edit]

Hi. I saw that you removed some excessive entries on the "Balloon" disambiguation page two years ago. Well, this entry is still lurking on our wiki's List of items:

Can you handle it? Thanks. A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 11:28, 14 May 2016 (EDT)

Thank you![edit]

You have been and are still very helpful and efficient with information on DKCTF, and you (and your Prima Guide, of course) formed an essential part of my work on expanding the game's universe on this wiki. Of course I will consider collaborating with you further more!

This time, I created the article for containers. There are still images to be added, but I think I'll do that another time. You can check it out and see for yourself if it's a good article or not; I often get bashed for having a style of writing that tends to be rather flowery than encyclopedic. I currently prefer to stay somewhere between, and avoid being casual at all costs, as I genuinely hate poorly written articles. Gosh, how much I speak!

Again, thank you for producing the necessary information! See you soon! -- -- ByeGuy1.png ByeGuy.png ByeGuy2.png 12:39, 14 May 2016 (EDT)

P.S.: Alright, I'll just call those big fish "Gargantuan Gills" if they don't have an official name. What do you think of it?

P.P.S.: Hold up! What does "Carnivorous Plantlife" refer to? Is it about the carnivorous plants from a level called Bramble Scramble (the DKCTF version)? Are they these guys?

Re: unresolved questions[edit]

I try to delete the talk template from conversations that are resolved and/or have died. (Anything after Febuary remains untouched.) I was thinking that the buildup of old questions obscured the current questions in the category for unresolved questions. As such, deleting old ones brings more attention to the current issues. Thanks for the suggestion, it definitely made the article read better. By the way, do you have some method of writing articles on locations, like Goomba Village (place)? Bestiary Hard/Easy mode stats[edit]

What's your stance on having stats on a bestiary that may not exactly be accurate? In Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, players can start their file on Hard Mode, where enemies' stats are boosted significantly, while Paper Jam has an Easy Mode where enemies are weaker. I haven't found anything that shows the boosted or decreased enemy stats from those games - and I don't know how to crack into 3DS games for that purpose - but two members have added them to the respective bestiaries without explaining HOW they got them. Would it be a good idea to just remove them for the time being, especially if there's no in-dame data available to compare them to? Let me know what you think. --Zootalo (talk) 17:05, 19 June 2016 (EDT)

RE: Recent images[edit]

Yes, I am familiar with all of the {{aboutfile}} parameters. I just fill out some of them because not all of them need to be filled. Sometimes, I just flat-out remove it. Other people find those actions OK as well. I am also aware of Megadardery (talk)'s failed idea/proposal about revamping the template so that way the source parameter isn't thought of as the rejected game parameter. I forget where that is linked on the forum (I'm not registered for personal reasons). He brought it to my attention a couple of months ago or so. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 23:19, 29 June 2016 (EDT)

I only add resources, such as Spriter's Resource, when I needed that sort of assistance if I can't do something with my own whit. My file submissions, unless stated, are generated by me and not taken from anywhere else. They are taken live as I play the game. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 23:27, 29 June 2016 (EDT)
I don't care in the slightest if someone credits me or not for a screenshot I took. That would be like crediting who wrote what parts of each article. If you think about it, the page histories have all the credit needed that went into each page we have to offer here on MarioWiki. A lot of my uploads are just copypasta text from the older image entry, making adjustments when needed (sometimes needed). It's easier. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 23:38, 29 June 2016 (EDT)

Infobox captions[edit]

I was asked by Marino13 to stop you from removing the infobox caption from Donkey Kong Jr., as he felt that having an infobox caption would teach you something about infoboxes as seen here as almost all character infoboxes have captions, regardless if the articles infobox is about a species or a major character. Area51Guard.png A51 Trooper 15:49, 3 July 2016 (EDT)

I was actually just in a chat talking about this and I believe this came about from a misunderstanding of what is meant by "caption". Marino13's initial edit to Donkey Kong Jr. used the syntax caption= and we don't use that. His later edits corrected this, so unless I'm misunderstanding something, TT's further reverts were done in error. -- Ghost JamShyghost.PNG 15:55, 3 July 2016 (EDT)

Different Source?[edit]

Couldn't help but notice you said you used a different source for File:Joan of Arc MTMSNES.png and File:Duke of Alencon MTMSNES.png. Do you mean the first screenshot was from ZSNES and the second screenshot was from some other emulator, likely Snes9x? Just curious because the first version of the image has a line at the bottom of the screen, an artifact that ZSNES is known to produce. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 18:25, 19 July 2016 (EDT)

Just drop ZSNES cold turkey. It is highly inaccurate compared to better emulators. Snes9x is sufficient for MarioWiki's needs. No need to go more accurate. I get by just fine with it. As for text clarity, we are dealing with sprite-based imagery here. Can't get any better. It's better to just reproduce the text either on the file page itself in the {{aboutfile}} template or in the article that references the file. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 18:44, 19 July 2016 (EDT)

Um hello. I saw you edited List of Paper Mario quotes just now. Do you know if there is a good way to give a link there on Yakkey's page? It seems that leaving only a hatnote will violate the empty section policy, and copying the quotations will violate MW:ONCE...XD

And is it ok to list as many quotes there as possible on that page? I am currently adding quotations from minor NPCs in a way like this. For larger areas like Toad Town, however, this method will make the article too crammed, and these large volumes of quotes can be moved to the big list and links can be provided. --A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 00:34, 13 August 2016 (EDT)

Sorry for the message on the edit of the Koopa template[edit]

I wanted to apologize for having directed the message on the edit of the Koopa template at you.

At the moment I am concerned about the Koopalings' retcon because I realized that the Encyclopedia Super Mario Bros., while stating to report the story of the manual of Super Mario Bros. 3, actually removes from it the main proof on the Encyclopedia that the Koopalings were indeed considered Bowser's children - essentially it seems that NCL is now not even admitting to have retconned the relationship, something that we have proof they did.
Still, of course, putting the Koopalings among the in-game relatives is unacceptable - they currently aren't Bowser's relatives. I also have to admit that the sentence on the template was excessively verbose, so I thought to add Miyamoto's word - current - to reflect both the fact that at the moment the only official parental relationship is that between Bowser and Bowser Jr. and the fact that there were different official parental relationships before this new one.

Still, when making the edit, I shouldn't have directed the description at you, as getting personal - further stating what you should have done - because of a perfectly legitimate edit is totally wrong, especially when dealing with information that aims at being objective. I'm sorry for that.--Mister Wu (talk) 09:59, 17 September 2016 (EDT)

Can you tell me what were your thoughts on my last comment not the vote here since it is archived now? Yoshissm-animated walk.gif Yoshi the SSM (talk) 22:43, 20 September 2016 (EDT)
If I don't hear from you, then I will ask Steve about it. He will give his advice and I will act on it. Yoshissm-animated walk.gif Yoshi the SSM (talk) 16:24, 21 September 2016 (EDT)

Believe or not, this article's talk page would benefit both sides. If this passes, the talk page would be the place to talk about which games should get their own article. Proposals can last two weeks as oppose to one on this page. I think the highest person (Steve) should be the person who ultimately decide whether or not this should be done if there is any great confusion. If this proposal fails, it would serve as talk page to its own article. Obviously, it would need a proposal if there are people who disagree. What are your thoughts? (Sorry for the confusion. Here's the proper copy.) Yoshissm-animated walk.gif Yoshi the SSM (talk) 17:40, 21 September 2016 (EDT)

It will benefit the passed proposal. I suggest the article will be just a talk page allowing two weeks whether than one. It would also serve as a place where if people don't want a proposal to be archived, it will be on that list. I copy some of this from my message to Steve which I contacted already about the issue. I thought you were confused over it. Yoshissm-animated walk.gif Yoshi the SSM (talk) 17:51, 21 September 2016 (EDT)

Re: Cat:RPG Items[edit]

Hey there, apologies for the delay in responding.

I wanted to get your opinion on the RPG Items - General and RPG Items - Special categories. I find them to be both overly redundant with other games' item categories and overly broad by lumping together entries from SMRPG, the M&L series, and the PM series into one messy category. Still, they've been in place for a long while and they were created by an admin, so I didn't want to start mass-removing them or doing anything drastic before I heard from someone else.

I agree that the categories are too broad to be of much use when all the entries are clumped together as they are. I think the two categories could remain, but just be made a parent category of the individual games' items categories (either "General" or "Special"). And these subcategories would replace the two broad categories on articles. Here are the specific RPG item categories I could find while quickly browsing:

There may be more that should still be created. Additionally, I'd like to bring up a point of my own. I've noticed that you have created Category:Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga Places. What would you think of having the already-existing Category:Beanbean Kingdom deleted, and primarily use the "Places" category? Asides from Mario's House and Peach's Castle, all of the entries overlap. The Beanbean Kingdom article could then be askerisked within the "Places" category.

'Shroom Spotlight Shokora (talk · edits) 17:27, 1 October 2016 (EDT)

Hmm. Alternatively, a broader category called "RPG items" could be created. "Cat:Paper Mario Series Items" could be made a subcategory of that, which should also contain all other RPG series' item categories (except Super Mario RPG, which would be the only game in the category). The "Series Items" category appears to directly navigate to only the game's general "Items" category, and the "Special" items are found in a subcategory for that game's "Items" category. Therefore, a category called "Special RPG items" could contain all those "Special" item categories, while also being a subcategory of "RPG items". General and Special could then be deleted as their current titles. I'm not sure if this is the best approach: this situation is extremely confusing.

I think the Beanish category shouldn't be covering enemies or items: each of those belong in a game sub-category. With the addition of the characters who appear in later games, the category's contents should primarily show those at Beanish#Notable Beanish members. --19:26, 1 October 2016 (EDT)

Hi again, I didn't mean that the characters from later games shouldn't use the categories. I said in "addition" to those which are seen on the Beanish article (as it currently only shows characters from ML:SS). I'll tend to the rest of the RPG item discussion as soon as I have the time to read through it carefully. --19:51, 1 October 2016 (EDT)

Re:Coin Ring[edit]

The thing from Dire, Dire Docks? Sure. The Super Mario 64 Player's Guide describes it on page 78 for the fourth and fifth missions, but it's not called a coin ring. Here's the text in full if it's useful:

On Through the Jet Stream (Metal Cap requirement noted): "To make the Star in the jet stream appear, you will need to swim through five of the bubble rings that rise from the source of the jet stream and collect the five red numbers. The easiest way to do this is to let the rings come to you. You can tread water at the top of the jet stream. It can be difficult to tell when you are in the correct position, so you may need to adjust the camera view. Once you find the place, just sit there until five bubble rings rise up, giving you all five of the Red Numbers. Then go get the Metal Cap from the block along the edge of the cavern, walk down into the jet stream and collect the payoff!"

On The Manta Ray's Reward: "Here’s another reward you can win for swimming through bubble rings. The Manta will leave a trail of rings in its wake as it swims around the whirlpool. If you manage to swim through five of the rings in close succession, the fifth Power Star will appear at the top of the whirlpool. Be careful–don’t focus so much on following the Manta that you swim into the whirlpool, though." Caption: "You'll know you navigated through the ring correctly when the red number appears."

On Manta: "Be careful when you’re following the Manta, as his barbed tail will damage you. Luckily, you can get oxygen from his bubble rings, so you can continue to follow him for a long time. In order to make the Star appear, you will have to swim through the center of five rings. If you touch the side of a ring or miss it altogether, you will have to start over."

So the Nintendo Player's Guide interchangeably refers to the object as "ring" or "bubble ring". LinkTheLefty (talk) 18:27, 1 October 2016 (EDT)

Category:Rogueport Denizens[edit]

Hi. Do you think this category should include the denizens in Rogueport Sewers? Currently some like Wonky are listed but others like Herb T. aren't. --A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 20:31, 6 October 2016 (EDT)

Kenny James Image[edit]

I already uploaded a PNG file on Kenny James. I'm just using this one as a personal image and besides it's oversized in my page and the older revisions. BossGoombaPMSS.png The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) 35px 15:57, 9 October 2016 (EDT)

I actually gave that one a place on the article and like I said earlier if I go back to any old revision, the image shows up enormous. BossGoombaPMSS.png The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) 35px 16:04, 9 October 2016 (EDT)

I'm going to step in here and say that The RPG Gamer (talk) is in the right here. If you look at Kenny James, the images used in that article are not the ones being tagged as {{personal-image}} and they are at the highest quality at this moment. The RPG Gamer (talk) can use an inferior quality image if he wants for this particular file page. Granted, I would recommend that image be deleted so that way it frees up a slot of personal images allowed to The RPG Gamer (talk), but that is all I can do and any sysop would agree with me. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 16:11, 9 October 2016 (EDT)

Re: advertisements[edit]

Holy shit, that's exactly it! How did you find it so quickly?

I was looking through Google's video search, I should have tried a direct YouTube search too :P

MLBIS key items[edit]

Hi. Do you think the blue/red/green keys found in Peach's Castle deserve an entry in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story#Key items? I do have played the game but I forgot whether they appear in the pause menu. I searched both the Spriters Resource and MFGG but neither had the icons for them. --A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 23:19, 15 October 2016 (EDT)

Umm, should they carry [[Category:Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story Special Items]] or [[Category:Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story Items]]? Neither has been created. --A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 01:34, 16 October 2016 (EDT)

Gary Koopa Undo[edit]

So you're telling me that there is no image of him whatsoever in that novel, not even on the front or back cover. BossGoombaPMSS.png The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) 35px 21:58, 22 October 2016 (EDT)

Nintendo Adventure Books[edit]

Just like KC Deluxe, I have created a new category for Nintendo Adventure Books in response to your recent uploads: Category:Nintendo Adventure Books Images. The current images found there are not limited to those. There could be more scattered around MarioWiki on various pages, such as File:Dubtrub.jpg for Iggy Koopa. I need to confirm something. Is File:Mariobook.jpg for that category? I know the file says Super Super Mario Activity Book series, but sometimes that information can be wrong and the image is a scan of a page that looks stylistically similar. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 05:21, 30 October 2016 (EDT)

Yeah, that would be like making an image category for each Super Mario-Kun issue. There will likely not be many images populating those categories in that case. Splits could still occur, like covers vs. content pages or something. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 22:01, 30 October 2016 (EDT)

Mario Party Advance[edit]

I sometimes see you uploading many Mario Party Advance images. Can you replace File:Koopa Kurl.jpg and File:Peek-N-Sneak.jpg? It was something I just came across as I was browsing through Category:Quality requested. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 19:50, 4 November 2016 (EDT)

Thanks. I'm going to test File:Peek-N-Sneak.jpg with Henry Tucayo Clay (talk) and see if it can be replaced with the PNG version. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 21:41, 4 November 2016 (EDT)

I got another request. File:Ukiki House.jpg --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 20:05, 25 November 2016 (EST)

Thanks! --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 23:37, 25 November 2016 (EST)

Snooze Ewes[edit]

Hi, I have come here to ask you a question that I originally asked Shokora (who was known as YoshiKong at the time). He told me to ask you, which I am finally getting around to doing. The Snooze Ewes article says, "As the name implies, the gaddget makes the player fall asleep if it is turn on." Aside from the obvious grammatical error, is this supposed to mean that it makes the character fall asleep? Because it logically make the player fall asleep. I ask you this because I do not own Mario Party Advance and you evidently do.
Luigi 64DD.png (talk · edits) 00:08, 15 November 2016 (EST)

I see. Thank you for the advice!

Re: Minecraft enemies[edit]

I didn't know you were going to flood Special:NewFiles with more files than just the five I found you uploaded yesterday and was put in Special:UnusedFiles the very instant I edited the page. Sorry. I thought it made sense leading up to my edit. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 22:12, 21 November 2016 (EST)

Another Upload Request[edit]

Judging by your recent uploads about Mario's Time Machine, I think you are playing the PC (really MS-DOS) version of the game. Maybe you can replace File:MTM Paradise.png. Maybe you are doing sprite rips or legitimately trying to play the game. I don't know. I would attempt but when running in DOSBox for compatibility reasons, the save feature does not work. It's been on my to-do list and my patience with running the game is shot. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 00:49, 14 December 2016 (EST)

Hello![edit]

How are you? I'm sorry for being absent all this time. I'm back to ask you more questions about DKCTF, if you don't mind. For the record, I would like to know the precise official names of:

  • The snowball cannons from "Blurry Flurry", as well as the large snowballs they shoot. For further reference, there is a Walnut maneuvering such weapon in the beginning of the level.
  • The ice dragons Lord Fredrik summons during the battle against him. He also summons one in the game's intro.
  • The small fish that appear when you battle Bashmaster in Juicy Jungle. You can first see them in the intro where they chew on his popsicle. You can also interact with them if you fall in their pond, as they assault you on the spot. If you find something along the lines of "if you fall in the pond, you will get attacked by piranhas / <insert name of the enemy here>, so be careful!", then tell me the whole quote!
  • The snowflakes from "Forest Folly".

Below you have reference images:

Brain Drain Category[edit]

I realized several pages relating to Brain Drain are calling for it's related category. Are you waiting until you've provided all the subjects to create it? I was going to create it myself, but then realized that might be edit snipping considering it's your project you're working on. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 21:02, 16 January 2017 (EST)
