Super Mario 64 missions

"Pyramid Puzzle" is the sixth mission of Shifting Sand Land in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS. In Super Mario 64, this is the course's final mission. Its objective is to find five secret points within the pyramid.

Layout[edit]

The player must first enter the pyramid and climb to the top, as if they were doing the course's third mission, "Inside the Ancient Pyramid". Another way to do this is by standing on the four pillars to activate the secret entrance, as in the course's fourth mission, "Stand Tall on the Four Pillars". Once the player reaches the top of the "sandfall" just before the Power Star, they need to climb down to the small ledge below with a coin. Collecting the coin starts a secret counter, and collecting five of the special coins in the pyramid is the mission's objective. It is possible to touch the five secret points without collecting any coins by just barely touching the top of each secret's hitbox.[1]

After touching the secret point, the player then has to jump down to a small platform on the left side of the "sandfall", followed by jumping to the platform on the right side, touching the points and collecting the coins as they go down. The player must then jump into the stream of moving sand and touch the two secret points within it. Once the player touches all five points, the Power Star appears at the end of the stream. However, the player has to be careful when collecting it, otherwise, they will fall into the quicksand below.

In the DS version of the game, the coins are replaced by Silver Stars, and the Power Star appears in a Star Sphere, making it easier to collect (but this also means this mission cannot be done while another mission is selected).

Naming[edit]

"Pyramid Puzzle" is the only Silver Star mission in the DS version that does not have "Silver Star(s)" in the title.
