Template:Level Barrel Cannon Canyon is the fifth level of the popular Super Nintendo Entertainment System game, Donkey Kong Country. It is also the final level of the Kongo Jungle areas.

In this wild jungle level, the Kongs will find and use Barrel Cannons for the first time. These barrels will be used many times throughout the level, and the heroes need them to shoot over large, wide abysses all over the level. However, as the monkeys blast through each barrel, they must have good aim, otherwise, they will plummet into the abyss below. To make things even harder, the level is filled with many Kritters of several colors, including green, red, and blue Kritters. Zingers also appear here, and can create quite a challenge for the Kongs, even in this early level. Upon completing this stage, the monkeys can challenge Very Gnawty and finish the Kongo Jungle world.

Level Layout

At the start of the level, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong must advance to the first Barrel Cannon after they defeat two Kritters near the entrance of the level to shoot themselves up to nab the letter K and to land on the higher ground level. If the Kongs land on the sensitive cracked ground, it releases a DK Barrel that can free a Kong if one is missing or can be used as a regular barrel to defeat an enemy. Next, the Kongs must hop onto a ledge and avoid a Kritter. Next, the Kongs must hop down and hop into a Barrel Cannon to shoot to the next piece of land with many ledges and Kritters that must be avoided or defeated. Next, Donkey and Diddy Kong must shoot through Barrel Cannons across a large abyss on which the Kongs must avoid. After crossing the abyss, the Kongs encounter three Kritters in a lower level of ground between the ground and the Kongs must avoid them and cross another large gap or use a shortcut Barrel Cannon on the treetops to nab that letter O or the other letter O located in the large gap full of barrels which leads the Kongs to a Bonus Level. After the Kongs cross the abyss or complete the Bonus Level, they are sent to the Star Barrel.

Halfway throughout the level, the Kongs encounter a few Kritters and they can find a TNT Barrel to break the second wall on the right from the Warp Barrel to enter a Bonus Level. After they complete the Bonus Level, they must continue along and avoid a couple more Kritters or hop into a Barrel Cannon on the ground that shoots the Kongs to the sensitive ground so they can break it to collect the letter N. Next, the Kongs must go into the final giant abyss with Barrel Cannons helping the Kongs cross the abyss. The only difference is that there are now Zingers there to challenge the Kongs more. The Kongs must avoid these wasp enemies while shooting throughout many Barrels. After they cross the large abyss, the Kongs notice the Exit sign ahead and they must defeat four Kritters along the way including the bouncing Kritter blocking the exit. Before the Kongs exit the level, they can hop onto the last treetops next to the exit to grab the letter G. Once they done that, the Kongs must go through the exit so they can battle [[Very Gnawty[[.

Hidden Collectibles and Secrets

K-O-N-G Letters

  • K: Above the first Barrel Cannon of the level and shoot up to obtain it.
  • O: At the end of a large abyss near the Star Barrel.
  • N: Hidden in a breakable piece of ground after the Star Barrel.
  • G: Found on two treetops near the exit.

Bonus Level(s)

  • Right after the letter O, the Kongs must hop in a Barrel Cannon facing a wall while avoiding a nearby barrel across from them. The Kongs must shoot out of their barrel and bang into the wall. The wall will then break, and they will be able to advance through the first Bonus Level. There, they will need to blast through several barrels while collecting bananas, Extra Life Balloons, and an Expresso Animal Token to get to the Bonus Level's exit.
  • Shortly after the Star Barrel, the Kongs must find a TNT Barrel. They should pick it up and carry it to the nearest wall to the left while passing a Kritter They must break open one of the walls and enter a Bonus Level, where they will end up in a barrel. As it moves them back and forth through the area, they must shoot out of the barrel and grab some items in the three rows. After claiming their prizes, the Kongs must miss the barrel that shoots them to exit the Bonus Level.
