It is I, the great Salmancer! And I... am not keeping that voice up for a whole page.
Hi, if you're reading this you probably want to know something about me. I'm United Statesian, a lower-case "g" gamer, and an all around goofball. (Male, he/him) Obviously, I like Super Mario and the rest of the extended franchise. My other fandoms are Kirby, Sonic the Hedgehog, Pokémon, Shovel Knight, Ducktales, and Mighty Magiswords. And I guess The 'Shroom too, since I never miss an issue.
When I'm not editing the wiki, I'm usually playing video games. And if I'm not playing video games, I'm usually reading about video games. And if I'm not reading about video games, I'm... hmm. I should get more diverse hobbies.
As the games list later on will indicate, my first Mario games were for the Wii. Yoshi and Luigi are my favorite Mario characters, which is probably because green is my favorite color.
General Wiki opinions
- Favor splits to merges
- Always follow official terminology. If something weird happens because of this, it's not our fault.
- Level should have been renamed "Course" years ago.
- Keep redundancy down where possible.
- Be precise regarding game mechanics.
Things I do
- Put things in categories. I love me a good category, and dislike ones that don't quite work. Check Category:Gold variants, Category:Jumps, or Category:Tanuki (well, that one was changed from Category:Tails). This sometimes also means modifying navigation templates that follow from categories.
- Lavish detail on articles that are too short, like microgames.
- Expand move articles
- Make/expand gameplay sections for some video games.
- Run tests in the games I have to make sure we have interactions between mechanics documented.
- Occasionally spin up an article when it's needed.
- Sound the alarm if something is violating wiki policies.
- Add links to existing article text
- Take screenshots from Switch games. (I would do this for phone games but my power button is broken and that means I can't take screenshots... )

Games I care about
These are games I've played, liked, and probably edit for.
Paper Mario: Sticker Star (Y'all, it's not terrible! Only bad! People expected too much from it.)
Super Mario Run (It's good, seriously!)
Games I'm aware of
I've played these games in the past but can't exactly easily go back to them. I probably have wiki opinions about them though. (Demos are not counted, games I've only played through multiplayer with other people are noted as such)
New Super Mario Bros. (Download Play only)
New Super Mario Bros. U + New Super Luigi U (My first Wii U game! Hindsight says I should have gotten Nintendo Land since this got a port to Switch and that didn't.)
Mario Kart DS (Download Play only)
Mario Kart 7 (Download Play only)
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 - Arcade Edition (One minigame, but it counts!)
Controversial opinions
- I don't like trying to divide RPG enemies and bosses into History and Battle sections, because sometimes the battle is part of the story. There's dialogue, dramatic decisions, and permanent state changes to locations and characters. Battles are not just cutaway gags! (See Bowser's Sticker Star battle, where battle moves the player through the castle and the castle falls apart mid-battle.)
- We should articles to be sorted as multiple kinds of things. Yoshi and Toad can just be a character and a species at the same time. (That means they stay on the list of characters.) Bros. Attacks and stickers are both items and moves. The latter is already true of Propellerpack and Fireball. Forms can be moves too, as per Giga Bowser and Wario-Man.
- We shouldn't try to seriously cover games before they release because they'll be easier to cover after they release.
- Have the wiki’s use of “turn” in the context of Mario & Luigi match the Battle Ring. Namely, a turn consists of all characters getting or missing their chance to act.
- Give boss fights involving multiple characters that have a name one article for the entire boss fight, to greatly simplify coverage of them on the component characters pages.
Userpage directory
- User:Salmancer/Slope (Donkey Kong Country Returns and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze)
- A section describing slope mechanics in Donkey Kong Country Returns. I don't think Slope is a generic article, so it's staying here for now. Maybe I could tinker with the gameplay section for the game.
- User:Salmancer/List of fictional WarioWare reviews
- I transcribed the fictional reviews and testimonals from three WarioWare videos, enduring the writers' comments about how you aren't supposed to do this. Why? To see if there was any reason to make an article for the Wario Times. Turns out, nope, no outlet is featured in all three videos and I do not feel like making articles just to watch them be deleted. But at the very least Wario writing his own reviews is a factoid for his article.
- User:Salmancer/List of methods of flight
- A revamp of Fly as a compare and contrast list like List of power-ups, intended to replace the Fly article in a proposal. That proposal failed so I guess it's just sitting pretty here. The page history is probably a fun read if you want to see me spiral into madness trying to categorize every way of flying in every Super Mario video game in a meaningful way. I went with focusing on their mechanical differences, and wound up with an overcomplicated by half 11 categories. Oh, and abilities are allowed to have more than one category. There's a non-zero chance the topic defies categorization entirely, but even if it's possible this specific system is not fit for a publicly edited wiki. This did lead to some Smash Bros. Jumps joining Category:Jumps, so one positive.
- User:Salmancer/Fountain (Super Mario Odyssey))
- In progress article for the fountains in the Seaside Kingdom. It's waiting for my replay of Super Mario Odyssey to reach Seaside to test things.
- User:Salmancer/Rescue Cappy from Klepto!
- In progress article whose ability to exist requires me to overturn a proposal. Currently waiting for me to finish my replay of Super Mario Odyssey, as I have a hunch there's something funky about this objective's appearance(s) that requires I check in on the Lost Kingdom whenever I finish an objective in a later Kingdom. If doing that sounds like busywork, that's because it is! I keep putting this playthrough off because of this,
- User:Salmancer/Rainbow Bridge
- In progress article used to push splitting all the special buildings from Super Mario Run. Now I gotta finish it, but since I don't have a fresh save file for Run, that means shifting through lord knows how many Youtube videos to find the Toad requirements. Ugh, makes me not want to do this.
(Personal) List of games in the Super Mario series
Indistinct entries share a row with their originals. To summarize, I lean in favor of saying new gameplay = new game, and that even oddball entries count because I don't think their presence in the main series breaks anything. Entries must be discrete products, so new campaigns in remakes cause the whole package to qualify. (Also man, still really wish we got a New Super Mario Bros. remake collection where the 100% reward is getting to use power-ups from each game in the other games. Like Mega Man: The Wily Wars but for Mario.)
