Smokey the Dragon is the fourth boss in Diddy Kong Racing and its remake, Diddy Kong Racing DS. His body is colored orange with a yellow belly, face, and feet, and his eyes are green. The player races him at the end of Dragon Forest in his own stage, Smokey's Course. He speaks with a Northern Irish accent. Smokey has a challenge level named after him named Smokey Castle.

During the events of Diddy Kong Racing Smokey was enslaved by the evil alien pig Wizpig into being one of his servants. After his brainwashing Smokey was intrusted with a peice of Wizpig's amulet.
Smokey was brainwashed by Wizpig and guards the fourth piece of his amulet. The player races Smokey after they complete every race in Dragon Forest. The boss race is aerial, as Smokey flies while the player rides in a Plane. Smokey attacks the player by leaving behind puffs of fire that slow them down. When the player completes the first match against Smokey, he challenges them to complete the four Silver Coin Challenges (or Balloon Touch Challenge in the DS remake).

Smokey would only allow someone to race him if they beat all the chasllenges in his area, Dragon Forest. Once all Dragon Forest's trials are beaten Smokey becomes raceable. During his race Smokey plays dirty, he will attempt to hit his opponent with puffs of fire which can cause his opponent to lose control of their vehicle briefly. If Smokey is beaten he manages to fight off the effects of Wizpig's control long enough to allow the victor of the race to gain access to Dragon Forest's Silver Coin challenges.
The player can rematch Smokey after completing every Silver Coin or Balloon Touch Challenge. Like the previous bosses, Smokey's difficulty is increased for the rematch: he flies faster and produces twice the number of fireballs. After the player wins the race, Smokey is freed from Wizpig's control and gives players the final piece of the Wizpig amulet. He is present in the game's ending where he celebrates with the other characters.

If all the Silver Coin challenges of Dragon Forest are beaten players can re-race Smokey. In this rematch Smokey flies much faster, he also produces much more fireball this time around. When Smokey is defeated once again he will break free of Wizpig's control and award the one who freed him with the peice of Wizpig's amulet he was charaged with guarding.
Like most characters, Smokey's voice is changed for Diddy Kong Racing DS. The boss race's difficulty was decreased, as he does not produce any fireballs on the first match and only a few on the second one.

Smokey may have been set to make a reappearance in the cancelled game Donkey Kong Racing; as Taj the Genie, a character from Diddy Kong Racing was going to appear in it. It is unknown if Smokey was going to appear in Diddy Kong Racing's cancelled Game Boy Advance sequel, Diddy Kong Pilot.

Smokey appears in Diddy Kong Racing DS which has him with a new voice and an easy foe. He produces no fireballs the first race and few the rematch. He sounds more evil-like in this game.
