I meant that the guides just describe whatever one happens to be pictured. So Shogakukan's Game Boy Advance guide shows and describes Green Toady, but the Super Famicom version has Kamek's Toady and the Yoshi's New Island one has Solo Toady, and they all have the name Kokamek. Sure, I'd just prefer if the file-naming standard of the project was followed. And try to make them distinct. If I have them in a specific pose (such as the open-mouthed Hootie and Dangling Ghost), I'd like if that were still in the image, as it shows more of the enemy than otherwise. You're still signing with raw code. Did you add {{SUBST:nosubst|User:FanOfYoshi/sig}} to the text field and tick the checkbox in your signature preferences?

This is just so your signature page is transcluded to every comment you sign, not the actual coding, so if you ever change User:FanOfYoshi/sig, the changes are reflected in all of your previous signed comments. This is also helpful if, for example, a larger version of the image is uploaded and it gets in the way of other talk page comments, since you can resize it on one page rather than having to go back and do it for every time the image was used. I wouldn't know. All I know is that due to the most recent emulator site (it was a self-proclaimed paradise) getting gutted, I can't get good non-YouTube screenshots until the next emulation site inevitably starts up. File redirects needing deleted

Re: Yoshi's New Island quality

As far as I know, that is a hardware modification to capture footage directly from the 3DS. HANS is software-based, but doesn't capture video. It's use is to capture screenshots by PNG. I wouldn't recommend hardware modifications for screenshots, unless you are OK with dismantling your 3DS. There is an alternative screenshot software that is said to be better than HANS, but it installs itself onto the 3DS and may require system firmware modification. That is why I recommend HANS because it doesn't modify hardware or the 3DS firmware. To review:

• HANS (only needs an entry point, or exploit, to run and doesn't require any modifications to the system)
• NTR (installs itself on the 3DS and may require system firmware modification to run properly)
• Hardware mod (dismantle the 3DS to capture game footage)

Blarggwich

Oh, Blarggwich doesn't use "sprites" other than the eyes. The body is made from the same type of isosceles triangle object that most other squash-and-stretch enemies and objects in the game uses, as well as the polygons in Star Fox. It's a Super FX thing, which is why only a few games had it. It also allows for sprite rotation and the tile pileup regarding the feet of many creatures in the game. And while Super Mario World and Kirby Super Star appeared to have sprite rotation in some boss fights, these are actually background layers, and thus a different story completely. I say the Snapjaw / Snap Jaw article can probably be split without much problem since no one has come up with an objection in all that time, but there seems to be conflicting opinions about Huffin Puffin, so that one should definitely have a proposal. I recommend three options: 1) Split Huffin Puffin and Fluffin' Puffin, 2) Rename to Fluffin' Puffin, and 3) Keep as Huffin Puffin. That last one is because it's suggested that even though Fluffin' Puffin is the more recent name, it only applies to Yoshi's Woolly World, so it Huffin Puffin would be interpreted as the more common name for the usual, non-wool version, making it an exception. Or if you want to make the proposal only about the split, that's fine too, but there should be some discussion about the current name afterwards in the event it doesn't pass. You can follow the how-to here, but if you're still not sure, I can do it for you if you'd like. (Also, I have fond memories of Yoshi's Island on SNES as well as the Super Show back when it was airing, so I like it.) LinkTheLefty (talk) 14:55, 7 September 2018 (EDT)

Looks like you are using friendboxes, though it doesn't appear that you asked for them and are custom made. Usually you have ask first, and it's usually even stated on their userpages that you should, including mine. According to MarioWiki:Courtesy:

• "Unless you have someone's permission, don't add their friend userbox to your userbox tower or create a fake box on their behalf."

If you want to ask someone if you can have the friend userbox, you can, but the ones you created should be removed.

Re:Needlenose

Yes, it's a little confusing because Needlenose and the original Spiked Fun Guy are both plainly referred to as Sanbo (Pokey) in Japanese versions and are considered the same thing despite the difference in appearance in behavior, and the "Pokey (Yoshi's Island series)" also has a different name altogether, Heading Sanbo/Pokey. Not to mention that standard Pokeys eventually appeared in the Yoshi franchise in Yoshi's New Island alongside Needlenoses (still Sanbo in Japanese), which were soon replaced by a different type of enemy called Pokey Poms in Yoshi's Woolly World. I think the simplest thing to do is to consider them all separate entities, as they are cactus-like but have notable differences (although Cactus Jack is currently considered a derivative of Needlenose). Prima is absolutely official. As for the Encyclopedia, Dark Horse's previous Nintendo book, The Legend of Zelda: Arts & Artifacts, simply gave several Japanese-named enemies poor Romanizations (as well as doing this to some bosses that had actual English names), so there's no telling. Re: Sprite ripping

Hmm, honestly, that sprite needs to be re-ripped entirely, imo. It's showing the stage background behind it (see Dangling Ghost and Caged Ghost for how it should look), and part of the stage background is the same color as the image background, so I can't make it transparent without taking a chunk out of it. I appreciate your enthusiasm, but articles don't have to be moved immediately. With merging and splitting, you usually want to give some time for others to get their input; with the renamed Puchipuchi L article, "Milde (large)" was only a suggestion and no one else commented on which identifier would be preferred (if any) yet. Italics

When naming titles for games, series, publications etc. remember to italicise them (i.e. the game title should be displayed as Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, not Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island). Yes, the manual treats them as the same enemy. A rough translation: "If you spit them out after eating them, they roll and can defeat an enemy in one piece. When starting a new article, even after a split, remember to add the appropriate navigation templates and categories like {{YWW}} and [[Category:Yoshi's Woolly World]] at the bottom of the page. You also forgot to italicise game titles as I've already explained above. Since when does a SMW2 appearance care about prior rules? Lakitus had a crosshair and Spiny Eggs exploded! I think I may have mentioned it elsewhere, but basically, all the guides refer to Needlenose as Sanbo. Spiked Fun Guy also goes under that name and is suggested to be the same thing in the description from the Super Mario Advance 3 guide, which would technically merely make Spiked Fun Guy the enemy graphic and Needlenose the projectile graphic. The Yoshi's New Island guide doesn't have its own listing for Needlenose and gives one to the traditional Pokey instead, but other parts of the guide call Needlenose "Sanbo" when describing the projectile. The confusion with all these different forms of Sanbo in the Yoshi's Island games is probably what led to their replacement in Yoshi's Woolly World, Pokey Pom.

Soliciting

I've noticed you done this a couple of times both on the wiki and on Discord, but asking users if they're going to vote on proposals or if they will support one you are going to make is against courtesy:

• solicit votes from other users.

Do not ask other users to vote for anything, period. While this is mainly directed at proposals, it applies to FAs, elections and any other voting that takes place on the Super Mario Wiki. Even if you don't explicitly ask your friends to support your cause (or to join you in opposing something), simply contacting them makes it look like you're fishing for votes in your favor. The only time you can draw someone's attention to a vote is when a proposal concerns a subject that is important to them. Far from an act of discourtesy, giving them a heads-up about some possible changes being made to that subject would be a very considerate thing to do. Furthermore, if the validity or rationale behind someone's vote is being questioned, you can contact the voter and ask them to check back in on the matter, which may result in them changing their vote.

I disagree with reopening the case of Big Piranha Plant - there was already a proposal on Piranhacus Giganticus, which was previously considered its "pipe-dwelling" counterpart (contrary to the usual treatment of pipe-dwelling and ground-based Piranha Plants). As shown by games like Super Mario Maker, a Piranha Plant is a Piranha Plant, no matter where it happens to be planted. I'd say Big Goomba and Big Wiggler are among the few "big" enemies that possibly can get split coherently (and maybe Big Boo, if split into boss articles). Purple Bullet Bill

I do not agree with you on this, as this is an enemy that was initially treated as a color variation in Japan before being split over there. The original ones weren't even red, they flashed to the player's palette, which while it could be red, could also be other things as well. Actually, Mister Wu already answered the questions on Bull's-Eye Bill here. In short, they were under the same name in Super Mario Bros. 3 (similar to what happened to certain Yoshi's New Island enemies and occasionally what happens to "big" enemies depending on the game), and Super Mario Pia lists modern Bull's-Eye Bills under "NSMW,NSMU" and doesn't mention older incarnations at all. Basically, the unique name was first given in New Super Mario Bros. Wii in Japanese - though in English, it was still referred to as "Missile Bill" then and only got its new name by Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. There's also the fact that the red Super Mario Advance 3 Bullet Bills were in the same situation as they were in Super Mario Bros. 3 (being listed under the same name just like Bouncing Bullet Bill prior). So it would be tricky to split Missile Bill and Bull's-Eye Bill, but I do think it would be easier to split Super Mario Sunshine's homing colors as derivatives because Purple Bullet Bill isn't the only one (I believe Time Turner has its English guides, so you can ask what they are called - "Blue Bullet Bill" and "Crazy Bullet Bill" are mentioned here so maybe those are the proper names). The behavior of the Purple Bill is certainly a callback to the flashing "Missile" Bills of SMB3, as the only difference in how they act is that the Purple is more persistent (not flying off in a straight line after so many U-turns). They are also more similar to them than the SM64 and SMG Bullet Bills, in that they do the U-turn thing, while the regular Bullet Bills in SM64 and SMG are constantly pointing themselves at the player. 1) Regarding Skeletal Fish Guard: are you referring to this? I didn't mean that the filenames were different between game versions - what I meant was that Nintendo often uses CamelCase in their filename structure, and when we must use them as article titles, we standardize it with proper spacing instead because that's what it usually implies (the only exception I can think of is the "JellyFish" in Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, which we have as "Jellyfish" more naturally).

2) Regarding Lumacomète: the Comet Luma is, as best as I can tell, not in the Prima guide at all.

3) Regarding Muimui: the Prima guide generically refers to it as a "worm" on pages 35 and 172, so that might be where the article's previous title came from. If you want a more specific name, the internal filenames for its actual object suggest "Big Green Caterpillar" (GreenCaterpillarBigBody, GreenCaterpillarBigBodyLow, GreenCaterpillarBigFace, GreenCaterpillarBigFaceLow). 1. In Super Mario 3D World, both Lava Bubble colors share the same filename: "Bubble" (its usual Japanese name). This is because the difference is aesthetic and determined by the type of lava, whereas they have different behavior in Super Mario Galaxy 2 (where the blue one is "FireBubble" and the red one is "LavaBubble").
2. As of yet, I've been unable to determine the internal filenames for Super Princess Peach, though I suspect the reason I don't see Security Thwomp is because it's part of the level background and not a separate object. Note that stage objects tend to be named somewhat generically (for example, Bowser Villa's Ball 'N' Chain is "castle_tekkyu1_D08"). I'll update if and when I can comb through more thoroughly, but suffice to say it isn't "Fire Bubble" or "Mekakushi Teresa".
3. On page 248: "After Mario lands two hits on the Bonefin, the behemoth calls in reinforcements. Skeletal fish rise out of a hole in the seafloor and run interference, blocking shells and zeroing in on Mario like Bullet Bills. With each additional hit, more fish swim out of the hole to cloud the waters. The school of skeleton fish follows Mario doggedly through the water. To get rid of a fish, hit it with a shell." On page 249: "After landing the fifth hit on Bonefin, the leviathan crumbles and all his skeletal minions disappear. The Power Star appears over the hole that the skeleton fish emerged from. Mario is still underwater, so make sure he has enough air to reach the Power Star. What could be worse than outlasting Bonefin only to run out of air inches away from the Power Star?"
4. They're just called "robots" in the Prima guide, and aren't mentioned at all in the Super Mario Galaxy 2 guide. The Sentry Beam mistake in Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia is due to a Zack attack translator copying from us from a period where we made the same mistake, similar to the Spiny Piranha Plant and Prickly Piranha Plant mix-up among others.
5. Regarding Electric Pressure, it's described once on page 178 of the Super Mario Galaxy 2 guide: "The cannons fire electric balls, so you must keep moving." As for the stack, it's grouped together generically with its species. For example, on page 71 of the Super Mario Galaxy guide: "This makes the larger Mandibug angry—it turns red with fury and starts moving erratically." Internal template clarification

Perhaps I misread something. You brought up the internal name template ideas to Porplemontage, and he says to just do the "internal filename" if the proposal passes. He said you shouldn't cancel the proposal, yet it seems you did so anyway and immediately put the template into effect despite the current amount of support for not changing anything. Only one vote (yours) was for the internal filename template, and the template has been added to pages already.

You don't just cancel a proposal and put what you want into effect despite what the votes are saying, that completely defeats the point of a proposal. I never heard of a case of uncancelling a proposal, so I'll ask about that. Per MarioWiki:Proposals: "Every vote should have a strong, sensible reason accompanying it. Agreeing with a previously mentioned reason given by another user is accepted (including "per" votes), but tangential comments, heavy sarcasm, and other misleading or irrelevant quips are just as invalid as providing no reason at all.". Re:More filename request and Prima names

Fuzzler is "Imozo", which is a romanization of its Japanese name (I'm not sure if it's really supposed to be a Fuzzy/Wiggler hybrid either). Dragoneel and Hisstocrat are not, so I'll see if I can determine what they are later. As for Nipper Dandelion - when I skimmed through earlier, I found nothing. Your arguments on the Red Spike Top page are completely irrelevant. The first seems to be based off anger about the Yoshi color proposal. The remaining ones don't make sense, as Electro-Koopas and Lava/Fire Bubbles have completley different sizes, behaviors, and models between their types. Spike Tops and "Red Spike Tops" look, act, and stat exactly the same, minus a single texture being photoshop value-edited from blue to red. What you're advocating for implies you want the Shy Guy colorations split, which due to usually sharing behavior would be massively pointless and confusing. Keeping conversations on track

If someone asks a question on a talk page, if you don't have an answer, it'd be best to not derail it by "answering" in a way that doesn't have anything to do with what's being said. For instance, on the Fat Guy talk page, I asked what the context of the alleged usage of "Big Guy" in the Treehouse presentation was, and you came in and said what we would do if it is in the game, which, as you know fully well that I know the rules, is essentially a pointless Captain Obvious statement. It'd apply to Tweester (Super Mario Galaxy), which should be moved anyway seeing as how it really has nothing to do with regular Tweesters to begin with. As for Kaboomba and Cheep Chomp, the pages aren't really at risk of being moved to "Cannon (Super Princess Peach)" or "Boss Bass (Yoshi's Island DS)" anytime soon, so I'm not really sure if the proposal's relevant to them.
