Re:New account[edit]

Cool, I was going to suggest registering since you seemed to be fairly active already. LinkTheLefty (talk) 03:00, 27 August 2018 (EDT)

Thwomps and junk[edit]

There was. It was mentioned at the top. As for the Fat Guys, there's no way that was a mistake, it was a "King" variant. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 03:45, 27 August 2018 (EDT)

Well they repurposed a generic Boo artwork for Big Boo, so it wouldn't surprise me. This was for the same game that reused Chomp Shark's sprites exactly with no changes at all. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 03:52, 27 August 2018 (EDT)

Huffin Puffin and Fluffin' Puffin[edit]

In my opinion, it should be split or renamed. I actually suggested it a while back, but nothing ever came of it. LinkTheLefty (talk) 11:12, 28 August 2018 (EDT)

Since you're not yet autoconfirmed, I can propose it for you if you'd like. LinkTheLefty (talk) 11:28, 28 August 2018 (EDT)
No, but you should be promoted to autoconfirmed status sometime tomorrow. LinkTheLefty (talk) 11:41, 28 August 2018 (EDT)

Re:Green Toady's Japanese description[edit]

From Shogakukan:

My translation:

Waveringly approaching, contact makes it suddenly speed up and snatch the baby. As soon as he's taken away, let's give chase and return him.

Basically what you'd expect, I should think. LinkTheLefty (talk) 18:53, 29 August 2018 (EDT)

I meant that the guides just describe whatever one happens to be pictured. So Shogakukan's Game Boy Advance guide shows and describes Green Toady, but the Super Famicom version has Kamek's Toady and the Yoshi's New Island one has Solo Toady, and they all have the name Kokamek. LinkTheLefty (talk) 09:13, 31 August 2018 (EDT)

Image reuploads[edit]

Uploading a new version of an image can be glitchy. Press Ctrl+F5 to refresh your browser and have the most recent image show up. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 13:04, 30 August 2018 (EDT)

You're welcome! Now to delete all those image revisions. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 13:09, 30 August 2018 (EDT)

Additionally, when you move images, be sure to correct the links that lead to it. You can find these links by clicking the "What links here" tool on the sidebar while on the page. The file redirect should also be marked for deletion. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 13:20, 30 August 2018 (EDT)

Sure, I'd just prefer if the file-naming standard of the project was followed. And try to make them distinct. If I have them in a specific pose (such as the open-mouthed Hootie and Dangling Ghost), I'd like if that were still in the image, as it shows more of the enemy than otherwise. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:25, 30 August 2018 (EDT)

Hello, FanOfYoshi. Good job on your recent uploads. But when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly categorize the file. It is simple to learn how to correctly do so. Just search for the correct category by starting with the following groups:

Images Audio/Video Files

When uploading, copy the full title of the category with square brackets, and insert it into the summary text box (below the aboutfile template), replacing the uncategorized template entirely. For example, files related to the game Super Mario World would use:

Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Keep in mind some files can belong to multiple categories. Don't put images into media categories and vise-versa. If you continue uploading files without categorizing them correctly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing.

For this instance, the files you just uploaded would use Category:Yoshi's New Island Images. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 02:09, 31 August 2018 (EDT)

For images, it's "". , for example. The category link would replace the uncategorized template's place. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 02:13, 31 August 2018 (EDT)

Hello. Just letting you know that your signature currently violates a few rules outlined in MarioWiki:Signatures:

 • Your signature is too long. It should be shortened to fit in the box above.
 • Your signature should include your username, or a variation/nickname that lets others know it's you (just "Yoshi" isn't very recognisable).
 • You're adding your signature as raw code. Now that you're autoconfirmed, you should copy/paste your signature code to a signature subpage (User:FanOfYoshi/sig), then change your preferences accordingly (in the text field under "Signature", type in , tick the "Treat signature as wikitext (without an automatic link)" check box below it, then hit save; your signature then appears as plus the timestamp when you sign with ~~~~ instead of the entire code (the individual Yoshi GIF, contributions URL etc.))

More information can be found on the signatures policy page I linked. SMB Smallmario.png Mario JC 08:02, 1 September 2018 (EDT)

Yep, looks good. Just copy/paste that to your signature page and change your preferences. SMB Smallmario.png Mario JC 08:08, 1 September 2018 (EDT)
You're still signing with raw code. Did you add to the text field and tick the checkbox in your signature preferences?
This is just so your signature page is transcluded to every comment you sign, not the actual coding, so if you ever change User:FanOfYoshi/sig, the changes are reflected in all of your previous signed comments. This is also helpful if, for example, a larger version of the image is uploaded and it gets in the way of other talk page comments, since you can resize it on one page rather than having to go back and do it for every time the image was used. SMB Smallmario.png Mario JC 23:23, 1 September 2018 (EDT)

The Splunkin and Boo images in your signature need to be shrunk to 35px or less. SMB Smallmario.png Mario JC 05:27, 17 October 2018 (EDT)

Also forgot to add: only one animated image can be used for your signature, so one of the GIFs unfortunately needs to be removed. SMB Smallmario.png Mario JC 07:50, 17 October 2018 (EDT)

From what I've heard, Gimp has terrible user-friendliness. Use instead. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 12:24, 1 September 2018 (EDT) is a different program, which I use for sprite and art transparency. However, it requires a download, but is free and open-source. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 13:48, 1 September 2018 (EDT)

Re:Giant Raven's description in generic Raven?[edit]

From Shogakukan:

きくなったひなキュー。地続きの地形なら、天井でもいて移動する。地面にいるときにんでそう。すと、れたアイ テムが出現することもある。

My translation:

A bigger Hinakyu. It is on Earth-like terrain, as well as walks on ceilings and walls. A grounded stomp will defeat it. Upon defeat, a hidden item may also appear.

The guide unfortunately doesn't give a name to the giant Raven. LinkTheLefty (talk) 18:20, 1 September 2018 (EDT)

Project page[edit]

Your project page is meant for working on projects related to helping the wiki. What you have on your project page looks more like fan ideas that would be better suited to our forums. The information can be brought there, but it shouldn't be on the project page. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:18, 3 September 2018 (EDT)

No. Subpages should only be used for wiki-related matters. There is a Fan-creations board on the forums, though. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:26, 3 September 2018 (EDT)
Yeah, on your main userpage is fine, as long as you don't spend too much time on it. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:59, 3 September 2018 (EDT)

Re:Solo Toady picture[edit]

I wouldn't know. All I know is that due to the most recent emulator site (it was a self-proclaimed paradise) getting gutted, I can't get good non-YouTube screenshots until the next emulation site inevitably starts up. Hard to take screenshots from a game on a regular 3DS, that's for sure. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 15:06, 3 September 2018 (EDT)

Was that last one intended to go to me? It didn't seem like it was in response to anything I said. I was more talking about myself above. Also, you seem to still be inputting your sig in raw code, just by the way. (assuming that's being copypasted?) Anyways, with the lack of shoes, that'll make converting from my regular Toady sprites to Solo Toady sprites a lot easier, but currently my non-schoolwork time is going to a ripping project for Donkey Kong Land on the Super Game Boy. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 15:19, 3 September 2018 (EDT)

File redirects needing deleted[edit]

You don't need to tell them every time, there's a maintenance page that lists them that they check regularly. There's been a lot of file-moving recently, so it'd definitely be seen. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:48, 4 September 2018 (EDT)

Moving files[edit]

For future reference, after moving a file, keep in mind that the pages currently using the file (found at the bottom of the file page under "File usage") should be updated to use the new file name. After doing that, the old name must be marked for deletion with delete. SMB Smallmario.png Mario JC 06:19, 4 September 2018 (EDT)

You're still forgetting this with File:Slimes.png and File:Monkay.png. Please remember in the future or a reminder may be issued. SMB Smallmario.png Mario JC 05:38, 4 October 2018 (EDT)

For File:Yoshi ski.png, you still had links left to fix before marking the old name for deletion. SMB Smallmario.png Mario JC 05:27, 17 October 2018 (EDT)

Re: Yoshi's New Island quality[edit]

As far as I know, that is a hardware modification to capture footage directly from the 3DS. HANS is software-based, but doesn't capture video. It's use is to capture screenshots by PNG. I wouldn't recommend hardware modifications for screenshots, unless you are OK with dismantling your 3DS. There is an alternative screenshot software that is said to be better than HANS, but it installs itself onto the 3DS and may require system firmware modification. That is why I recommend HANS because it doesn't modify hardware or the 3DS firmware. To review:

 • HANS (only needs an entry point, or exploit, to run and doesn't require any modifications to the system)
 • NTR (installs itself on the 3DS and may require system firmware modification to run properly)
 • Hardware mod (dismantle the 3DS to capture game footage)

Hope this helps. Visit r/3dshacks for help how to homebrew your 3DS (for exploits). Also, to save consecutive edits, use the show preview button next to the save page button.--Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 10:25, 4 September 2018 (EDT)

Oh, Blarggwich doesn't use "sprites" other than the eyes. The body is made from the same type of isosceles triangle object that most other squash-and-stretch enemies and objects in the game uses, as well as the polygons in Star Fox. It's a Super FX thing, which is why only a few games had it. It also allows for sprite rotation and the tile pileup regarding the feet of many creatures in the game. And while Super Mario World and Kirby Super Star appeared to have sprite rotation in some boss fights, these are actually background layers, and thus a different story completely. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:35, 7 September 2018 (EDT)

I say the Snapjaw / Snap Jaw article can probably be split without much problem since no one has come up with an objection in all that time, but there seems to be conflicting opinions about Huffin Puffin, so that one should definitely have a proposal. I recommend three options: 1) Split Huffin Puffin and Fluffin' Puffin, 2) Rename to Fluffin' Puffin, and 3) Keep as Huffin Puffin. That last one is because it's suggested that even though Fluffin' Puffin is the more recent name, it only applies to Yoshi's Woolly World, so it Huffin Puffin would be interpreted as the more common name for the usual, non-wool version, making it an exception. Or if you want to make the proposal only about the split, that's fine too, but there should be some discussion about the current name afterwards in the event it doesn't pass. You can follow the how-to here, but if you're still not sure, I can do it for you if you'd like. (Also, I have fond memories of Yoshi's Island on SNES as well as the Super Show back when it was airing, so I like it.) LinkTheLefty (talk) 14:55, 7 September 2018 (EDT)

Rocky Wrench[edit]

I think they should both be classified as derivatives of each other since there's no hard evidence for or against the other two choices. This may sound blunt, but I already detailed my argument in my vote. MLPJToadetteWink.gif ToadettetheAchiever 11:08, 10 September 2018 (EDT)

RE: Signature[edit]

Yep, your signature code comes out as (a transclusion of your signature page), which is correct. SMB Smallmario.png Mario JC 10:39, 11 September 2018 (EDT)

Friend boxes[edit]

Looks like you are using friendboxes, though it doesn't appear that you asked for them and are custom made. Usually you have ask first, and it's usually even stated on their userpages that you should, including mine. According to MarioWiki:Courtesy:

 • "Unless you have someone's permission, don't add their friend userbox to your userbox tower or create a fake box on their behalf."

If you want to ask someone if you can have the friend userbox, you can, but the ones you created should be removed.

That said, you can replace the one you made with mine if you want :) Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 12:07, 11 September 2018 (EDT)

I am also fine with you keeping me on your list. You can use the one found on my userpage if you want! --FlameChompNSMBW.pngTheFlameChomp (talk) 12:12, 11 September 2018 (EDT)

^ Reminder. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 10:47, 12 September 2018 (EDT)

If you don't remove them yourself, I'll remove them myself at the end of my day. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 10:46, 13 September 2018 (EDT)

I already said which friend boxes: All of them (me, LinkTheLefty, TheFlameChomp, and Toadette the Achiever). Though TheFlameChomp and I have said you can replace the ones you have of us with our actual ones found on our userpages.
Anyone with the administrator rank and above can edit personal userpages in the event of a problem. We usually don't, but we do if we need to. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 10:51, 13 September 2018 (EDT)
...All of the friend boxes need removed. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 10:54, 13 September 2018 (EDT)
Okay, I'll try to be as clear as possible about this. All of your self-made friend boxes need to be removed. The ones for TheFlameChomp and I can be replaced with the friend boxes we actually give out, which can be found on our userpages. TheFlameChomp's is found here and mine is found here. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:00, 13 September 2018 (EDT)

Yes, it's a little confusing because Needlenose and the original Spiked Fun Guy are both plainly referred to as Sanbo (Pokey) in Japanese versions and are considered the same thing despite the difference in appearance in behavior, and the "Pokey (Yoshi's Island series)" also has a different name altogether, Heading Sanbo/Pokey. Not to mention that standard Pokeys eventually appeared in the Yoshi franchise in Yoshi's New Island alongside Needlenoses (still Sanbo in Japanese), which were soon replaced by a different type of enemy called Pokey Poms in Yoshi's Woolly World. I think the simplest thing to do is to consider them all separate entities, as they are cactus-like but have notable differences (although Cactus Jack is currently considered a derivative of Needlenose). Also, looks good, I like the idea of each word directing to something else. Keeps it condensed. LinkTheLefty (talk) 13:20, 11 September 2018 (EDT)

For Super Mario Advance 3:

づくとちゃんをさらいにるので、3ふむか、ヒップド口ップでそう。タマゴを連続てれば3以降1UPがもらえる。6てると せる。

My translation:

It will come for the baby when approached, so use 3 stomps or a Hip Drop to defeat it. Eggs continuously hitting it 3 times will yield a 1-Up. The 6th hit will defeat it.

And Yoshi's New Island:

My translation:

Baby Mario is in its repeated, relentless pursuit. One stomp will stop it, and a Hip Drop hit will defeat it. A Red Coin is kept by a red Borodo as well.

Later, in the section about its actual level, it is simply referred to as Borodo. (By the way, are you going to initiate the Huffin Puffin proposal, or shall I do it?) LinkTheLefty (talk) 10:48, 12 September 2018 (EDT)

I mentioned it here, but specifically, what you do is follow this format; then, since it will be on the Huffin Puffin talk page, make sure you list it here. LinkTheLefty (talk) 11:10, 12 September 2018 (EDT)
There are several ways, but I use homebrew. LinkTheLefty (talk) 13:12, 12 September 2018 (EDT)

Can you make the cropping a bit more symmetrical on that? The close-cut bottom bugs me....looks like it could potentially be missing a pixel or two. It's just my minor OCD, but is that possible to do? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:41, 11 September 2018 (EDT)

Much better. By the way, "von" is lowercase, as it literally means "of." Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:15, 12 September 2018 (EDT)
I know that fully well, I have that sheet and many more in an MS Paint document I use to make sprites and have for quite a while. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:22, 12 September 2018 (EDT)
Prima is absolutely official. As for the Encyclopedia, Dark Horse's previous Nintendo book, The Legend of Zelda: Arts & Artifacts, simply gave several Japanese-named enemies poor Romanizations (as well as doing this to some bosses that had actual English names), so there's no telling. LTL speculated that the release pushback may be quality control to prevent that from happening again, but again, there's no telling. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:45, 12 September 2018 (EDT)
(Somehow I predicted your immediate response) It's fine, everyone slips up every now and again. I'd suggest a proposal for splitting those though, as that's a fairly big change. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:51, 12 September 2018 (EDT)

RE: Retriever[edit]

It's the same user as the anons that were repeatedly altering the in-game data presented on the "probability distributions" pages. SMB Smallmario.png Mario JC 01:57, 12 September 2018 (EDT)

You raised the same question on the article's talk page, so I've answered there. SMB Smallmario.png Mario JC 02:52, 12 September 2018 (EDT)

RE: Splitting Huffin Puffin[edit]

Yes, typically the proposer makes the changes unless they take too long to do so. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 12:41, 13 September 2018 (EDT)

Re: Sprite ripping[edit]

Hmm, honestly, that sprite needs to be re-ripped entirely, imo. It's showing the stage background behind it (see Dangling Ghost and Caged Ghost for how it should look), and part of the stage background is the same color as the image background, so I can't make it transparent without taking a chunk out of it. Niiue (talk) 13:15, 13 September 2018 (EDT)

Hello, FanOfYoshi. Good job on your recent uploads. But when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly use the aboutfile template. What you were doing looks like this, and it is an inconvenience for other users to fix up the template. It is simple to learn how to format it correctly. The pre-loaded coding is shown below.

|1=Subject of the image
|2=Where you found the image
|4=Describe edits, if any
|5=Other versions (use file link)

Just replace the necessary parts with that corresponding information, and remove the entire line of the variable(s) you don't use. If you do not wish to use the template at all, then it is acceptable to simply remove it before you upload the file. Please consider the above information before uploading more files. If you continue using aboutfile incorrectly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing.

Also, note that removing uncategorized isn't enough, you need to add a game category, as explaind above. BlueYoshiYoshisStory.png Yoshi Egg 1990 Red-yoshi-with-umbrella.jpg 12:30, 14 September 2018 (EDT)

Re:Puchipuchi L[edit]

Yes, every section lists the level's enemies in the guide, which matches the enemy list. LinkTheLefty (talk) 15:45, 14 September 2018 (EDT)

Oh, I misunderstood. I thought you were talking about the Japanese guide. I actually don't have the English version, but you can try asking Alex95, who does have a copy. LinkTheLefty (talk) 13:16, 15 September 2018 (EDT)

RE:Huffin Puffin[edit]

Yes, I'm aware that the behavior differences are based on the chicks, not the parents.

Also, there's no need to message users on their talk pages about a single proposal unless there's something that badly and legitimately needs their attention. In all other cases, please instead post on the proposal's comments section, and the user in question will try to respond as soon as possible. Thanks! MLPJToadetteWink.gif ToadettetheAchiever 13:50, 15 September 2018 (EDT)

Merging and Moving[edit]

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but articles don't have to be moved immediately. With merging and splitting, you usually want to give some time for others to get their input; with the renamed Puchipuchi L article, "Milde (large)" was only a suggestion and no one else commented on which identifier would be preferred (if any) yet. Thwomp and Roger Lift were fine since mostly everyone else agreed by now, but there's no discussion on a Puchipuchi L rename and Turtle merge. LinkTheLefty (talk) 15:17, 15 September 2018 (EDT)

Re: About Caged Ghost and Dangling Ghost[edit]

I just played the game in an emulator and disabled the background layers, leaving only the sprite layer. If I still have any of my old saves, I'll try to rip something soon. Niiue (talk) 07:49, 19 September 2018 (EDT)

It's not really a hack, ZSNES has a feature where you can disable layers by pressing 1 through 5. Niiue (talk) 08:11, 19 September 2018 (EDT)
EmuParadise is dead ROM-wise (thanks, Nintendo >_>), and the only other ROM site I can think of that is even remotely safe will have that specific one restricted due to similar complaints. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:04, 19 September 2018 (EDT)
Don't know why you'd need my permission XD (I need to update that some time...) Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:22, 19 September 2018 (EDT)

When naming titles for games, series, publications etc. remember to italicise them (i.e. the game title should be displayed as Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, not Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island). You just do that by putting two apostrophes before and after the title (e.g. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island). SMB Smallmario.png Mario JC 07:47, 20 September 2018 (EDT)

Re:Rainbow Tap-Tap[edit]

Unfortunately, I don't currently have the Yoshi's Universal Gravitation / Yoshi Topsy-Turvy guide. LinkTheLefty (talk) 11:00, 20 September 2018 (EDT)

I'm more familiar with the standard DS, Wii, 3DS, and Wii U filesystem, so I can't help you there either. LinkTheLefty (talk) 15:00, 20 September 2018 (EDT)
When L151 added the Gūrindai reference, she mentioned that it was official, although there are other Japanese sources that still need determining if they're official. LinkTheLefty (talk) 14:28, 21 September 2018 (EDT)

Re:Super Mario-Kun[edit]

Let me see if I still have the scans from the Yoshi's Island volume. They do follow pretty closely to the games so it would be strange to see some major bosses omitted. I don't know if the enemies would still appear though. BabyLuigiFire.png(T|C) 14:13, 22 September 2018 (EDT)

I've got bad news. Turns out I don't have volume 15 that continued the Yoshi's Island arc, hence why there's no coverage on the potted ghosts. Really sorry about that. BabyLuigiFire.png(T|C) 21:32, 26 September 2018 (EDT)

RE: Relay Heiho[edit]

Yes, the manual treats them as the same enemy. A rough translation: "If you spit them out after eating them, they roll and can defeat an enemy in one piece. There are also those that line up in the ceiling and pass a bomb in a similar manner to a bucket relay and drop it." SMB Smallmario.png Mario JC 03:20, 25 September 2018 (EDT)

New article[edit]

When starting a new article, even after a split, remember to add the appropriate navigation templates and categories like YWW and at the bottom of the page. You also forgot to italicise game titles as I've already explained above. Please remember these as they are important writing guidelines (you can find more info on the Manual of Style, which I recommend using as reference for future articles). I do already have a plan for the citation needed for the October edition, I'm afraid. There is also an image required request already in. That said, I'm happy to feature the image quality focus that you brought to my attention. Yoshi876 (talk)

Woozy Guy[edit]

Then what is the open-legged sprite for? The one that TCRF mentions being in the final for Woozy Guy and that appears on TSR's SMA3 sheet? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:30, 2 October 2018 (EDT)

I know that it was unused, I'm saying it was making a deliberate clear comparison to a sprite that was in the final. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:37, 2 October 2018 (EDT)
No. >_> Just take a look at this. As for the TCRF bit:
"While the Shy-Guy graphics look nearly identical to the ones used by Woozy Guy,"
"the Shy-Guy graphics look nearly identical to the ones used by Woozy Guy,"
...meaning they resemble the ones Woozy Guy used. The spread-legged ones. Which are in the final. As part of Woozy Guy's movements. Which you seemingly claimed didn't exist. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:57, 2 October 2018 (EDT)
Look at thisMedia:Woozyguy.gif. While it's obviously not implemented the exact correct way either, note that the sprite uses an open-legged appearance, like they do in the sprite sheets. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 04:30, 6 October 2018 (EDT)

VG Resource[edit]

Why are you talking to me about that subject in particular? Context? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:02, 2 October 2018 (EDT)

SMA3 or SMW2? Freezegood's in the object sheet for the former, since that's really what it is. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:53, 3 October 2018 (EDT)
I have this in an MS Paint doc for my sprites, look at it daily. It's on here. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:59, 3 October 2018 (EDT)
Oh I didn't rip these. Only games I've ripped from are Donkey Kong Land and an NES bootleg of Phantasy Star IV. When I said "my sprites," I meant the edits/customs I have. Remember that thread? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 03:02, 3 October 2018 (EDT)

Sure, go ahead! :) If you wish, you can start making new pages from 6-1 beyond while I continue to add information to previous pages to make them more explicit. (Seeing, for example, World 1-1 and Stage 1-1 listed separately would seem confusing to some people, so it's important to mention the games they appear in and give readers more direction.) RE: Ice Snifit[edit]

Yes, since it's 7-6 (a one-vote difference) it should be extended another week to October 19 as you've just done. SMB Smallmario.png Mario JC 07:52, 13 October 2018 (EDT)

As I said here (which you also repeated), it passes by a difference of 3 votes. It's not my decision, it just needs to follow the rules. As the proposer, it's a good idea to go over them yourself as well. SMB Smallmario.png Mario JC 02:57, 16 October 2018 (EDT)

New users[edit]

Regarding this message on Turboo's talk page, you've done this a few times. Staff check the IP of every new user that signs up already, so there's no need to report them unless they are doing something like vandalizing. Even then, that's what the admin noticeboard is for, unless you need to get someone's immediate attention.

I know you've been shooting for a Patroller rank, but you're going about this all wrong. Just keep editing, undoing vandalism and reporting them when it happens, and the staff members will come to you when they think you're ready. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:15, 14 October 2018 (EDT)

Switch Block[edit]

The page(s) you recently created (Switch Block (Mario & Wario)) has/have been put up for deletion, has been deleted, or turned into a redirect. This may be because it violated at least one of the policies and/or guidelines of the Super Mario Wiki. There are some things you can do to ensure this doesn't happen again.
 1. Make sure there is no other article about the same subject with a different title, especially for conjectural articles.
 2. Make sure the article has enough information to make it a worthwhile read (i.e. it does more than state the obvious, such as "Luigi's Mansion is a mansion that is owned by Luigi"). Overly short articles are known as stubs and their creation is strongly discouraged; it is better to amass enough information to make a solid article right off the bat instead.
 3. Make sure the article is significant enough in the Mario series to have its own article.

If the article has only been tagged to be deleted you can still fix or expand it, but an administrator may delete it at any time, so please act quickly. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing!

Making a conjectural article and marking it as a stub... If it's to have a conjectural name, it should have as much information on it as possible. Perhaps there is a Japanese name available for it as well. Make sure you have all the information available before making an article. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:51, 23 October 2018 (EDT)

To clarify, Switch Block is actually not a conjectural title since it comes directly from the Mario & Wario instruction booklet among the game's blocks: スイッチブロック (page 8). LinkTheLefty (talk) 11:33, 24 October 2018 (EDT)

Re: Blocking vandals[edit]

Yes it is, actually- I've had the ability to block them for a while, but all of the other ones I've been beaten to or simply not online. It shows how good the vandalism prevention around here is though! BBQ Turtle (talk) 03:32, 24 October 2018 (EDT)

Re:Yoshi's Island DS Prima Guide[edit]

Neither guide has an enemy glossary, so the best I can do is examine the levels in which the enemies appear. The article for Sanbo Flower doesn't mention where it appears, so I can't do much for that.

As for Porutāobake:

 • Nintendo Power: "If you run low on ammo, his annoying friends will come to your rescue by tossing chairs and flower pots your way."
 • Prima: No mention at all.

Nothing useful there. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 16:35, 24 October 2018 (EDT)

Probably. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 14:15, 25 October 2018 (EDT)
Neither of the guides cover the museum in any detail, so no luck there. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 10:13, 6 November 2018 (EST)

Admins and vandals[edit]

As has been told to you before, you do not need to go to admin talk pages whenever there is a vandal. The Admin noticeboard will do fine. And he'd know his page was vandalized upon return presumably as it'd presumably have an erroneous "new message" box. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:32, 26 October 2018 (EDT)

Probably, given that they seem to do so every time something is edited on them. Could be wrong, though. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:46, 26 October 2018 (EDT)
Either/or, really. User's will get a notification that their talk page was changed, regardless of the reason. Admin noticeboard is preferred, and it looks like there are 14 page watchers including myself, so I'm assuming that's most of the admins that will get a notification from that page change as well. RE: Recent Changes[edit]

No - Marcycin

I just want to point out, that with the file name giving it the same name, and (unlike Bat, Morty Mole, and Magmaargh), there not being any official sources directly contradicting this, that means that this is the only official word we have, and contradicting our only lead is pretty much fanon. As such, we really should merge them, unless you want a significant drop in coverage and sourcing quality. While I don't like filenames being an official name source, I feel an exception is required when it's the only name that's been given to it whatsoever. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:30, 1 November 2018 (EDT)

You never responded to me here, by the way. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 04:19, 6 November 2018 (EST)
That has nothing to do with this subject. In this case, Raphael and the otherwise-unnamed YNI enemy do have the same Japanese name, with one simply being romanized. In every official facet, they are the same thing. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 04:49, 6 November 2018 (EST)
It would, primarily due to a recent decision by Porple on how redirects should work, as off-site links could potentially go anywhere, and we wouldn't want them going to a blank page if the initial thing they linked to was moved. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 04:50, 9 November 2018 (EST)

Re:Baby Cheep Japanese names + other[edit]

It looks like it's unnamed since Encyclopedia Super Mario Bros. only mentions that there is an underwater version of Boss Bass and doesn't describe it in further detail or give it a separate name like Nintendo Power did to Big Bertha. Also in regards to your other question about Yoshi's Island DS from a while back, I think Dangling Ghost is bura_obake and Caged Ghost is dokanobake_front and dokanobake_side. LinkTheLefty (talk) 17:08, 18 November 2018 (EST)

It's one way to do it. LinkTheLefty (talk) 03:56, 19 November 2018 (EST)

Spark and Piro Dangle[edit]

Since when does a SMW2 appearance care about prior rules? Lakitus had a crosshair and Spiny Eggs exploded! Anyways, it's not like other elemental-type enemies haven't changed theirs before, like Sumo Bro for example. Their traveling along walls and ceilings while being a masked-looking sparky orb is a dead ringer to me. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 04:22, 26 November 2018 (EST)

I think I may have mentioned it elsewhere, but basically, all the guides refer to Needlenose as Sanbo. Spiked Fun Guy also goes under that name and is suggested to be the same thing in the description from the Super Mario Advance 3 guide, which would technically merely make Spiked Fun Guy the enemy graphic and Needlenose the projectile graphic. The Yoshi's New Island guide doesn't have its own listing for Needlenose and gives one to the traditional Pokey instead, but other parts of the guide call Needlenose "Sanbo" when describing the projectile. The confusion with all these different forms of Sanbo in the Yoshi's Island games is probably what led to their replacement in Yoshi's Woolly World, Pokey Pom.

ビッグカチカチスペシャル (Big Tap-Tap Special): 「強制スクロールするステージで、ろからいかけてくる。タマコをぶつけるとろにがるので、たまにタマゴをぶつけながらげよう。」 (In an auto-scrolling stage, it will chase from behind. Hit with an egg and it will roll back, so let's escape while occasionally hitting it with eggs.) It doesn't say anything about it being the other Big Tap-Tap, so Tap-Tap the Golden should probably remain as a separate article. LinkTheLefty (talk) 07:40, 27 November 2018 (EST)

Talk tabbing[edit]

Hi, oftentimes when I see you in talk pages, your tabbing while you respond tends to take a step backwards, creating a zig-zagging effect. This is not the proper way to do it; responses to a specific thing should almost always go one extra step to the right, and should only go to the left of they've gone extremely far to the right already, or is a direct, specific response to a prior point of which the interrim points do not relate. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 07:31, 2 December 2018 (EST)

On topic[edit]

Hey, please make sure your talk page posts are on topic with the article, but to answer the question, it's referenced here. LinkTheLefty (talk) 07:06, 4 December 2018 (EST)

I've noticed you done this a couple of times both on the wiki and on Discord, but asking users if they're going to vote on proposals or if they will support one you are going to make is against courtesy:

 • solicit votes from other users.

Do not ask other users to vote for anything, period. While this is mainly directed at proposals, it applies to FAs, elections and any other voting that takes place on the Super Mario Wiki. Even if you don't explicitly ask your friends to support your cause (or to join you in opposing something), simply contacting them makes it look like you're fishing for votes in your favor. The only time you can draw someone's attention to a vote is when a proposal concerns a subject that is important to them. Far from an act of discourtesy, giving them a heads-up about some possible changes being made to that subject would be a very considerate thing to do. Furthermore, if the validity or rationale behind someone's vote is being questioned, you can contact the voter and ask them to check back in on the matter, which may result in them changing their vote.

Just something to keep in mind. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:44, 5 December 2018 (EST)

If you're making the changes to a TPP, please remember to change MarioWiki:Proposals/Talk_Page_Archive accordingly as well. The archive entry also still linked to the old talk page name (Talk:Rudy the Clown), which you marked for deletion. Keep in mind placing delete at the top breaks the redirect, so it's better to place it underneath in case it's searched or other pages still link to it (though they should be fixed anyway). SMB Smallmario.png Mario JC 07:41, 8 December 2018 (EST)

Also, remember to check for double redirects (redirects to the old name) after moving a page and make sure they redirect to the new name. You do this by going to Special:WhatLinksHere (the "What links here" link under "tools" on the left navigation pane) with the old name in the text field and clicking "Hide links". SMB Smallmario.png Mario JC 07:49, 8 December 2018 (EST)

Re: I.P.[edit]

You were undoing vandalism, so I think it's OK, thank you for reporting them. It appears they've done this before from other IP addresses, so you were doing the right thing by reverting their edits. If it happens again though, try not to get into an edit war- it may be worth waiting for an admin to get online and block them before undoing their edits again if they keep putting them back. BBQ Turtle (talk) 04:20, 9 December 2018 (EST)

Hi, how I autoconfirm my account? For the wiki of glitches in SMB3. Thank you. PD: Sorry if here is not where to talk about it, i'm new and I don't know so much the site. And I also view that you need 4 days to be autoconfirmed, and I have more than 4 days with this user.

RE:Blue Lava Bubble[edit]

Interestingly, I couldn't find any direct mention of them, so I'd say that the guide calls them Lava Bubbles like their orange counterparts. MLPJToadetteWink.gif ToadettetheAchiever 11:44, 18 December 2018 (EST)

Y'all done annoyed me[edit]

This page went almost a year unedited, then you gave it a completely unjustified edit about Spiny Cheep Cheeps not being in SMW, when it's no secret that the episode has more SMB3 inspiration anyways (Ice Land-like location, Fire Piranha Plant, etc...). more attention to other details, don't restrict your vision on things like that. Please. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 13:57, 30 December 2018 (EST)

Re:Ukiki and other "Giant" enemies[edit]

Potentially (but unlikely) in the case of the Goombas and Piranhas, definitely not in the case of the Troopas. I'm somewhat concerned with how Big Venus Fire Trap is handled. Anyways, today, I've got bigger fish to fry, as I'm getting my wisdom teeth pulled in ~2 hours or so. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 12:55, 2 January 2019 (EST)

Because there's no fluff with how it attacks. It at least took a little while for Deka Pakkun to get a pipe. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 13:10, 2 January 2019 (EST)
I disagree with reopening the case of Big Piranha Plant - there was already a proposal on Piranhacus Giganticus, which was previously considered its "pipe-dwelling" counterpart (contrary to the usual treatment of pipe-dwelling and ground-based Piranha Plants). As shown by games like Super Mario Maker, a Piranha Plant is a Piranha Plant, no matter where it happens to be planted. I'd say Big Goomba and Big Wiggler are among the few "big" enemies that possibly can get split coherently (and maybe Big Boo, if split into boss articles). About Togemen[edit]

There's no need to jump in since the edit summaries should've sufficed. My point is that the sprite shading in the original version does not suggest the color purple at all, so saying it was only added to the Game Boy Color re-release is correct. LinkTheLefty (talk) 12:29, 15 January 2019 (EST)

Sure, here is the description:

And my translation:

So it's describing the small variant - but isn't that artwork of the big variant (unless I'm misremembering things)? If so, it's clumping both together. LinkTheLefty (talk) 18:15, 20 January 2019 (EST)
