Questions
I'm typically move active in the MarioWiki Discord than I am here, due to the nature of my job. Typically, when I don't respond to messages on my talk page, it's not because I'm ignoring you, it's because there's too much going on that I simply forget to respond. Most times when I get bursts of activity is during my limited free time after work, or random days off in the week and Sundays. I'll try to indicate I read your message by thanking your edits to my talk page.
Policy on projects
I don't mind if you help participate in any my projects without contacting me first as long as you're not actively edit-sniping me as I write articles or add uploaded images to tables as I'm uploading them, because this creates edit conflicts and makes it even harder for me to save edits on articles I'm working on. However, it's generally still polite to ask first if it's ok to assist in my projects. The answer will be yes unless otherwise stated. I just don't want anyone edit-snipe police for me should someone else create articles out of red links that I was planning to create or create tables of items that I was about to create. Any help is very appreciated.

English (United Kingdom) language for certain games on Switch[edit]
Hey. I just came here after seeing one of PaperSplash's edits. In their edit they said that even though the English script for Princess Peach: Showtime! is just the same one it’s put on separate en_US and en_GB language files in different folders, so English (United Kingdom) was added but I removed it after. Eventually I thought of readding it but with a note somewhere. The only problem is I couldn’t put a note after “en_gb=y” explaining that. I tried what I could, but the note still wouldn’t show up. How should I add that note? CarlosYoshiBoi (talk) 19:35, February 4, 2025 (PST)
Regarding sprites and all that[edit]
I apologize if I come off as... dogmatic or anything in regards to my opinions on sprites and borders and all that. I do want to say, however, that I get a visceral feeling of revulsion when I see them cropped like that, not unlike what some people might get from trypophobia or something like that. It sounds really silly and I wish I didn't have that, but that tends to impair my judgement a bit after I see it. Again, I'm sorry, but I wanted to explain where that behavior comes from, and I'll try to keep my reactions under control from now on. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 09:23, February 10, 2025 (EST)
Obnoxiously flashy sprite palette cycles and how to deal with them[edit]
I've come up with a plan. The most "common" flash palette will be uploaded after being slowed down by a factor of 4, which will be noted in a description. To account for all of them, a separate image will be linked to from the description that displays a completely static chart showing all the possible palette combinations and explains the "accurate" speed and frame order. This will avoid eye strain/epilepsy issues and gallery bloat while also avoiding missing information (as I find palette cycles to be another interesting not-quite-behind-the-scenes detail about how the game works on a visual level; besides, we need to point out how one of the SMAS SMB3 invincibility flashes looks suspiciously like Wario with red shoes). Of course, this'd all be avoided if 80s Nintendo hadn't been so flash-happy, but that's what we have. By the way, one of the White Block images already existed, and three are linked on the White Block page itself for the purpose of a comparison. I'd request at least the first of them, but ideally all three be restored, with the previously mentioned slowdown implemented. By the way, what about Missile Bill and ones like them, which do flash, but only between about two visible colors, making them less problematic in that respect? I'm curious of your thoughts on that. Thank you for the concern (and for cutting down the work-load/potential eye issues for myself, lol). Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 12:01, March 6, 2025 (EST)
- Yeah your suggestion is a better solution than uploading all variations of the images at once, I understand why you did what you did and why you felt it was necessary to document them. I had to do what I did because multiple people did complain about how viewing the images caused discomfort so I had to quickly step in to stop it (there's a reason I slowed down the animation of both Whirly Fly Guy sprites). The Bull's Eye Bill did see complaints, including from my sister, so I do suggest also making it just a bit easier on the eyes. I personally don't have as much issue as the flashing blocks but I could see why they wouldn't like it. BTW could you link which ones I deleted, I can restore them for you if that's what you'd want.
Xiahou Ba(the Nasty Warrior) 11:37, March 7, 2025 (EST)
- These were the three:
. That Buster Beetle one is the worst because it's 1 frame-per-second in-game, and unlike, say, the opponent cars in Famicom Grand Prix: F1 Race which keep a consistent "black and white go here" system to them to make them blend into another color (ie, red and blue for purple), it also has outline flashes. I've made another chart for the Bills (and everything else that flashes multiple color combinations as well), so I'll be fine with deleting the non-red ones, though them and Bob-ombs don't flash as badly since they only use two shades. I'd assumed beforehand this might have been better than that Whirly Fly Guy since what made that one extra awful was being eight frames covering the whole thing (including multiple outline flashes) and having the propeller animation on top of it, but yes, in practice, uploading 54 flashy block images was a bad idea on my part and I spent yesterday feeling a little dizzy in the head. - That's just another nail in the coffin for that terrible game. 🙄
It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 22:14, April 15, 2025 (EDT)
While I definitely understand where you're coming from, the main issue that led me to upload all those in the first place is that our wiki generally tries to be thorough when uploading "pre-release and unused" assets. And, in my opinion at least, it makes the most sense that if we are to upload a large amount of unused assets, we should be just as thorough with the ones players are actually gonna see. So I see no real reason this should be OK while this should not be. If there is a reason, I'm happy to hear it. (On another note, I have some plans for the future for more in-depth coverage of visual differences between the NES and SNES/GBA games beyond just "graphics are better lol" so that's another reason I thought it might be a worthwhile endeavor.) Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:48, May 3, 2025 (EDT)
- Hi, I understand what you're trying to do here, but to me, it makes more sense that unused assets should be covered as those aren't gleaned from just playing the game or by looking at screenshots; they're a part of a game's history. I can see where they can be used to illustrate differences between tiles from prior versions to the final one but I think we should keep those graphics off the gallery as it serves to pad it with irrelevant information.

Proposal[edit]
Where should I put the proposal so it can get some reworking; also can I add it back it once it's good enough?--Tails101 (talk) 21:03, July 20, 2025 (EDT)
- To be honest, giving you advice as an admin: I'm not really big on the idea in the first place. I don't really see an overarching issue that would warrant creation of the page, most of our editors are already aware that we aren't like Wikipedia, but are also aware of why Wikipedia does what it does and may attempt to adapt some of its policies into their workflow. The policy is way too broad and vague to be useful to even new editors. Plus, what you're writing is already addressed by our other policy pages, for the strategy guide writing, it's covered by both our manual of style and good writing. With the disclaimer how we aren't officially affiliated with Nintendo, we have our general disclaimer page.
Xiahou Ba(the Nasty Warrior) 21:10, July 20, 2025 (EDT)
- Okay, I will take it down from the MarioWiki talk:Proposals; please don't add my failed proposal into achieve, as it's not worth it.--Tails101 (talk) 21:14, July 20, 2025 (EDT)
RE: Warning[edit]
The fact that this game had no known scenario writer, no budget, was rushed for Black Friday, and has developers who have never done a licensed game nor worked with Nintendo before is more evidence that it would have used GenAI. I know it's a strong accusation, but in 2024 we can't guarantee any big release is made without its influence, especially when the final product feels like this. I don't think they would ever admit it, but if it turned out to be written by GenAI, I would not be surprised.
I was hyped for this game since release and I even played it as early as I could in the hopes of helping out with wiki coverage, but release day bounced me. I actively struggled with playing this game and felt like I was forcing myself to do something against my will. It's made me re-evaluate all my other least favorite works because they weren't this. Even the developers don't seem to have much confidence in the game (down to recommending you take frequent breaks when playing to make the gameplay feel less repetitive).
To make things more productive, we don't really have any information on the wiki about the game's development, so I think that could be worth adding. When something disappoints and confuses me this much, I try to look for interviews or developer information that can clarify why they made these decisions. I've found a bit for Brothership that has made things make sense (such as Acquire mandating the meaningless choices and making Luigi not playable), but I want to know if there's more. Scrooge200 (talk) 16:12, July 27, 2025 (EDT)
- The fact that you signalled the game's writing is suspect wasn't the singular, most important reason for the warning, although I do concede your topic starter veered into forum talk since you did not provide evidence for the claim. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 16:26, July 27, 2025 (EDT)
Re:Scrooge The message I gave you has nothing to do with how we present Brothership information on the wiki, or lack thereof, it's primarily about your attitude and how it's permeating into your edits. In addition, the suggestion that Brothership makes about the players taking breaks is nothing new and does not suggest a lack of confidence in development, multiple Nintendo games have done so in the past which include the likes of Animal Crossing and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time since they're aware that the audience that plays their games are kids, mostly as some disclaimer of some sort. Anyway, I'm not here to discuss about the development process of Brothership, I'm primarily requesting that you cut back on the toxic attitude and perhaps stay away from engaging with subject matters you dislike. If you want to talk more about Brothership development information, leave it on the game talk page rather than my own. Xiahou Ba(the Nasty Warrior) 16:30, July 27, 2025 (EDT)

- Admins are taking care of these vandal accounts. If you're in the middle of any other editing work, you can just resume that and the admins will take care of this. I know you're not doing so, but best not stir the pot any more.

Mario Kart World[edit]
- Hey, I just want you to know that you should not have revert my edit at Mrio Kart World. It was a long phase that was easily broken down by a comma; I reverted your edit, as it was nothing other than a help grammar fix.

Re: Sound clips[edit]
So what I understand is I cannot select all files, technically, that is what Sound Resources is for, however, it is better I select files if they have a purpose. I think I understand now. Thank you! I will have to put a reminder somewhere just to remember what I should do. Derekblue1(talk) 11:57, August 17, 2025 (EDT)
- Also thank you for telling me when you saw what I was doing. When you told me that it was unnecessary to upload every file, I felt relieved. Derekblue1(talk)

why did you revert my move?[edit]
Hello, Xiahou Ba, I noticed you moved Era.png back to MYliFEiSPaIn.png, but why would you move it back? It is clear that this name was the name it had when it was uploaded as a PI. I've noticed that you also reverted the edit that an IP made which changed the description from "Era (ORIGINAL CHARACTER DO NOT STEAL) being wholly inconspicuous." (the PI description) to "Era from the mobile game, Era's Adventures." (the mainspace one). Conkdor! (T|C) 08:04, September 21, 2025 (EDT)
- There was discussion on our Discord channel where users did not feel like it was necessary to edit, especially considering the image was uploaded a long time ago and in tandem with an April Fools entry. Moving pages like this also has the potential to break off-site external linking, so moving back was my way of saying, hey, please do not alter established history, and I do not want to establish a precedent for users to just move especially old files willy nilly in the guise of thinking of correcting something. The same applies to the image aboutfile descriptions.
Xiahou Ba(the Nasty Warrior) 12:18, September 21, 2025 (EDT)
- Yeah but we shouldn't have a mainspace file with a joke name, because that's the kind of stuff that gets stuff moved.
Conkdor! (T|C)
- The file isn't really used on mainspace, it's kinda out of the way and it's used in an April Fools content. It's not getting moved back.
Xiahou Ba(the Nasty Warrior) 17:59, September 22, 2025 (EDT)
- Yes it is, it's used this page.
Conkdor! (T|C) 18:05, September 22, 2025 (EDT)
- I know that it's used on there, point still stands.
Xiahou Ba(the Nasty Warrior) 18:06, September 22, 2025 (EDT)
- but it goes against an image use policy rule: Names should be serious and professional. As such, inappropriate or offensive material should be avoided, words should not be intentionally misspelled or garbled, and any other attempts at humor, mockery, or sarcasm would be best saved for userspace. So it shall be moved.
Conkdor! (T|C) 18:21, September 22, 2025 (EDT)
- I know our image use policy, and my point still stands.
