Super Mario Bros. Deluxe[edit]

  • Instruction booklet description:
    • English:
Quite the tougie. Fireballs don't even faze him.
      100 Pts.[3]

New Super Mario Bros. Wii[edit]

  • Trading Card description: "These blue-shelled beetles are tough enemies to crack. Buzzy Beetles are infamous for crawling across the ceiling and falling right on you. They have tough fireproof shells that are resistant to most weapons. The best plan of attack is stomping them, which causes them to hide in their shell. Then you can use the sliding shell to knock other enemies right off their feet."

Card Number: 23

Super Mario Maker[edit]

  • Play Nintendo: "Koopas aren't the only shell game in town—you can also hop on a Buzzy Beetle to surf in style! Shake a Bill Blaster to turn it into a Bull's-Eye Blaster. Place a Buzzy Beetle shell inside a Bull's-Eye Blaster. Then jump onto the shell after it’s fired from the blaster and ride!"[4]

Super Mario Run[edit]

  • Notebook bio: "This black turtle is protected by a tough shell. It'll sometimes walk on the ceiling, falling on foes below."

Turtle with the strongest defense

The Buzzy Beetle is already familiar in the Mario series. It has a shell that is harder than those of other turtles, and cannot be defeated by fireballs. When it is stepped on, it temporarily stops moving, but it recovers after a while.

A Koopa underling with a heavy shell protecting it from fire. Stomping on Buzzy Beetles from above is the main way to deal with them, but spiked variations that cannot be stomped also exist. After saving Princess Peach in Super Mario Bros. and starting a new game, you'll find that most Goombas have turned into Buzzy Beetles.

A bothersome enemy protected by a hard shell. Mario's fireballs have no effect on these guys, much to the envy of their Koopa buddies. Buzzy Beetles also like to hang out on ceilings and then rudely drop on Mario as he passes. That sturdy shell gives Mario a major headache! (American English)
A troublesome foe protected by a tough shell. Some Buzzy Beetles walk upside-down on ceilings and fall on Mario as he walks past, so watch out! Surely they're going to crack their shells one day, dropping from the ceiling like that... Best to avoid this crazy situation altogether. (British English)
