[[Lord Crump]] also uses Mario's placing the Puni Orb in a fake pedestal to trap him and the Punies in a cage. Mario is able to keep the Puni Orb throughout the course of the game. Although it is unknown exactly why the Punies as a whole are so attracted to the Puni Orb, a Puni states that he gets an urge to squish it, calling it a "squishy orb".

The Puni Orb is an orange ball that, when activated, causes Punies to enter a trance-like state. In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, the Puni elder gives Mario this item to help transport the Punies and keep them safe.
