VS. Thunder Roc is the boss level of the Lychee Kingdom in Donkey Kong Jungle Beat and the Chili Pepper Kingdom in New Play Control! Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. It is the fifteenth boss level in the original Nintendo GameCube version overall the sixteenth boss level in the enhanced New Play Control! port for the Wii overall. However, if all crests from the first three kingdoms each in the D, K, and J Barrels are collected in the latter, then the level can be the twelfth boss level overall. It takes place on a large canyon during the night. This level's objective is to defeat Thunder Roc.
Level layout[edit]
In this level, Thunder Roc has 500 health points, and smoke is covered all over a massive and black egg that it is holding. It attacks by flapping its wings to both fire sharp feathers at Donkey Kong, create powerful winds to blow him away, firing three Shadow Meteors from its mouth at once, and summoning groups of Black Fairies, requiring Donkey Kong to either dodge them or use his Sound Wave Attack to deflect them, like how Hard Roc does in the second phase of VS. Hard Roc. However, unlike Hard Roc, Donkey Kong must deflect the Black Fairies five times to make the smoke on the egg disappear. Donkey Kong must use the Helper Monkeys to catapult himself up to rid the egg of the smoke and then damage the boss by headbutting it.
After losing at least two fifths of health, Hard Roc will begin the second (and final) phase. In this phase, it will shoot not only many more feathers, but also a massive Shadow Meteor, at Donkey Kong. If Donkey Kong deals damage to shatter the egg, it will be defeated and he will earn one to four crests in the original Donkey Kong Jungle Beat and one to three in the enhanced New Play Control! port for the Wii.
