Wikitables PipeProject?

(You probably saw us asking about this coming.) Out of curiosity, and just to gauge interest, is there anybody else who would be explicitly interested in joining a PipeProject for Wikitables? We've actually drafted a whole entire proposal to actually create the thing, too, but didn't want to put it to vote just yet, in case anyone was interested in joining the thing from the start.

Create a PipeProject for Improving Wikitables

(Careful, we're only more-or-less codifying how to convert a proposal to a PipeProject from scratch here...)

For the past 8-or-9 months or so, we've been working on implementing our own proposal from... Well, 8-or-9 months or so ago, rolling out the proper series coloration to every game's page. This has pretty rapidly increased from "just giving series coloration" to "making sure every table properly uses the wikitable class in the first place, that they adhere to the standards for table design, writing said standards for table design as nobody had thought to do that, and making sure that a few other proposals related to tables are being properly upheld. We're approaching the end of our first pass-over of every game, and a few thoughts have blipped in our mind, of varying coherence:

• What about the alternative media? All that time ago, we expressly left those on the backburner, to be determined at a later date, just so every single piece of alternative media, from albums to manga wasn't given a singular homogenized golden color. That'll take consulting at least a few people to figure out the best colors before even putting it to vote.
• Man, there's some tables we'd probably have done differently if we didn't only learn Regex around the games released in 2015 or so.
• It sure would be nice to have one big progress bar for everything...
• Oh, right, that proposal exists... We only got told about it around the games released in 1995 or so.
• It'd be really nice to have a dedicated spot on the Discord for asking for input, so we don't just clog the #wiki-editing channel every other day with our shenanigans.

With the PipeProjects resurrection proposed and passed, a lot of these thoughts have gone from vaguely-coherent to something actually actionable, pretty quickly. So, enough of being a little silly in tone, here's our actual gameplan for what we're dubbing PipeProject:Wikitables:

• The mission briefing is simple: Bring all of the main tables up to the standards provided in the Table Style Guide.
  • We're presently going through each game, year-by-year, until we have finally done a proper pass of every game's table. (We are currently on 2019 as of writing this proposal, and by the time it concludes, we'll likely either be on 2020 or 2021.) (Yes, as of now, basically all of these, with a few exceptions, have been just by us.)
  • After every table has received one pass, we will do a second pass to make everything adhere to the standards we only truly codified later into the process, and to help with parity when applicable. We'll also make sure other proposals related to tables, such as the one to re-organize enemy variants, are being properly implemented. Some tables won't need any alterations! Some might need multiple.
  • After this, we will determine how to handle tables for alternative media. Depending on how this all goes, we'll need to coordinate that particular effort as well.
  • Lastly, we would like to make sure, once and for all, that every table on mainspace is properly utilizing the wikitable class. There are plenty of stragglers out there that don't quite follow the format that we've encountered, and there are almost certainly more out there. This one's gonna take a while, and that's saying something.
• As of right now, we're the sole person planning on working on this, and by proxy, we'll be the only ones in the PipeProject to start with. That being said, like with all PipeProjects, we're more than willing to take recruitment. Whether you're just giving input (in fact, especially if you're just giving input, the more eyes we have on these, the easier it is to pick out any potential issues with them), or want to help out come the second pass-through, we'll gladly take all the help we can get. By voting, you do not have to join the PipeProject itself if it gets made! That is its own separate process!
• And, yes, on the PipeProjects page itself, we will, indeed, have a Great Big Progress Bar. We've actually created it already (in the form of, what else, a table), and even shared glimpses of it in the Discord before. In case you missed it or aren't on the Discord, though, here's a snippet of it in its current state:

Key
Gold means that we have done two passes on every game; they are, without a doubt, representative of what we want out of these tables. Green means that we have done a single pass on every game; there may be some tables we have since come to feel are less-than-ideal, or don't fully meet our standards we only codified later on. Blue means that we have done work on that year, but some game there still eludes us. Plain means that we have not touched the year whatsoever, or it isn't a valid year (yet.)

Break alphabetical order in enemy lists to list enemy variants below their base form, EvieMaybe (ended May 21, 2024)

Revamp colorful tables, Camwoodstock (ended August 14, 2025)

If anyone has any feedback on the proposal draft, or if they'd be interested in joining this PipeProject once it exists, let us know! The colour-coded list of years with coverage does appear weirdly in dark mode, where the colour in the legend and the colour in the chart are different. --Illuminoid (talk) 13:41, June 6, 2026 (UTC)

We did that mostly for our own sake; doing fully accurate colors causes the Blue color especially to be a bit annoying to read on dark mode. ~Camwoodstock ( talk ☯ contribs ) 15:57, June 6, 2026 (UTC)

I know (and I've seen) for a long while how interested and dedicated Cam is in this subject! I'm even already kinda helping with my updated Mario Kart 8 Deluxe character table (also yes, I know I haven't touched it in a while but I might get back to it soon). Would you be willing to call the project "PipeProject Tables"? I've always regarded the term "wikitables" with disfavor because it is redundant. Every table is on the wiki, after all. B700465189a9 (talk) 19:05, June 6, 2026 (UTC)

A bit delayed, but we think "Wikitable" is a more than fine code-name. It is the name of the CSS class that the tables use, and one of the things we're seeking to fix is to make sure each table is properly using that class. ;P ~Camwoodstock ( talk ☯ contribs ) 05:13, June 20, 2026 (UTC)

Some questions

This talk page or section has a conflict or question that must be answered. Please try to help and resolve the issue by leaving a comment.

The current header for PipeProjects does not state anything about who can join. In my opinion, editors without an account should not be able to join PipeProjects. It is unusual for the wiki to allow anonymous users to join things like this. Non-autoconfirmed users are also typically disallowed from joining things like this. I understand that we should be open to anyone joining, but sometimes exceptions need to be made, like proposals.

Are users allowed to add their reasoning and/or comments to their entry on the list of contributors like how one can add those to votes on proposals? Are users allowed to remove themselves from a PipeProject's list of contributors? What if a PipeProject member is blocked or their account is deleted? I assume this all works like it does on proposals and nominations for featuring/unfeaturing articles.

Do we acknowledge failed PipeProjects on the list of PipeProjects? In the future, it may be helpful to know if a PipeProject has already been proposed. --Illuminoid (talk) 20:15, June 6, 2026 (UTC)

I think the failed PipeProjects is there to remind users about the ideas that were rejected, otherwise people will suggest ideas that they did not know the consensus rejected. Not sure about reasoning with users, they just put their names there so other members can network them about the project easily. I think that a staff member or whoever should also decide to remove their names if they are inactive or blocked. Non-autoconfirmed users joining PipeProjects should be discussed though because I really want to know how the community handles them, I believe non-autoconfirmed users should not be added on the list since they are just numbers that their intent is ambiguous. PipeProject Comics

I have seen an editor put a lot of effort into adding content to Super Mario-kun two years ago. Although the content has a lot that has yet to be finished like Super Mario 4koma theater I think is the name that has several broken links. The comics project is obscure since the community is busy with catching up with the gaming content and they have done an amazing job. Derekblue1(talk) 12:57, June 18, 2026 (UTC)

Hi. Yeah, you're probably talking about me: I'm the main editor of the Mario-kun and KC Mario pages. I'm a bit on hold with kun until I catch with KC so I can do both arcs simultaneously and, luckily for you... I'm literally one volume away from accomplishing that. Awesome! At this point, do you think PipeProject Comics are necessary anymore?

I'll see what I can do on that front too. After all, KC Mario ends with Yoshi's Story (which is two arcs of distance from where I am), plus various missing chapters I'm slowly collecting when possible. PipeProject People

Before jumping the gun, I am seeing a lot of broken links and all of them happen to be mostly real people who worked with Nintendo or other partnered companies. Would having a PipeProject page about people be needed? Derekblue1(talk) 04:00, June 20, 2026 (UTC)
