Table Menace is an unlockable one- or two-player minigame in the Extras Zone in Mario Party 8. Its name is a pun on "table tennis," which makes up the gameplay as well. In Table Menace, players have the option of playing as either a character from the Super Mario franchise or a Mii. The minigame is played only with the Wii Remote. The Wii Remote is intended to be held upright with the side with buttons facing the screen.

Introduction[edit]

Both players are seen standing on opposite ends of a table tennis table in a gymnasium, with others playing table tennis all around them. The camera pans in toward the players' table and zooms behind the first player before the screen splits vertically in two, one side for each player, and the game begins.

Gameplay[edit]

The objective is to reach the set number of points required to win. A failed serve results in a point for the opposing player. If a player hits the ball off the table without it bouncing, the opposing player also receives a point. Moving the paddle is automatic, and the player is in control of only swinging the paddle. Each swing is pressure-sensitive. The distance the ball travels depends on how quickly the Wii Remote is swung. The first player to reach 11 points wins the minigame.

Ending[edit]

Both players stand in front of the table; the winning player does their victory pose while the losing player sulks beside them.

Controls[edit]

  • Wii Remote
    • Toss for a serve
    • Swing paddle
  • Buttons: None

In-game text[edit]

  • Rules"Play table tennis with your opponent. The first to reach 11 points is the winner."
  • Hint"You can return with more power if your timing is just right. Watch out for people and things around you."
