Mario Kart TV Reference?

File:WiiU MarioKart8 scrn08 E3.png In this photo I've posted above, if you look under the 5th colored flag from the left under the Mario Kart sign, it looks like there is a television truck that says Mario Kart on the side, and if you watch the trailer, and pause at the right moment, you can see it clearly. So, I think Nintendo is referencing their new feature inside the game quietly? What about you? Oh and sorry for the super-large photo, but you have to have it big to notice the truck anyway! Also I'm not talking about television referencing, I'm talking about the Miiverse feature called Mario Kart TV. --BlueYoshi211 21:49, 11 June 2013 (EDT)

Automatic drift reference?

I just got done watching the most recent trailer (for like the 1 millitonth time), and I noticed something odd- watch the part with Waluigi on the amusement park track, and watch the way he turns- not only does he not hop when he goes around the corner, he emits smoke once he starts turning. Do you guys think that it is a refrence to automatic drifting? If so, should we put it as one of the things returning? Please respond (AFTER watching the Waluigi part)!

Haven't you played MK7? If you turn for a certain amount of time, you start sliding. So this might not be Auto Drift. - Ninelevendo, the Blue Lightning! (talk)

NO, I have not played MK7, so I would not have known that.

Ok, take it easy, no hard feelings. But that's the answer. - Ninelevendo, the Blue Lightning! (talk)

I'm sorry(I wasn't trying to be mean).

Dont worry, I thought you were angry. Can't tell what tone people speak in, so I gotta be careful 'bout what I say. - Ninelevendo, the Blue Lightning! (talk)

2 laps?

I watched some GameExplain videos and in both of the 2 demo tracks they played the 2 courses had 2 laps, and they weren't long like Wario Coliseum. Is 2 laps a standard feature or is it just because of the demo? Yoshi876 (talk)

I'm pretty sure it is because of the demo, since the Mario Kart 7 demo also had two laps instead of the usual three. --- ThePremiumYoshi 17:10, 11 June 2013 (EDT)
Just noting, but it has 3 courses, but Andre has only uploaded videos of two of them at this moment. --BlueYoshi211 21:38, 11 June 2013 (EDT)

Yup, it has 3 courses. In the final version, there will be more!
The preceding unsigned comment was added by ‎ (talk).

All of these are...

All of the photos that follow are all from Mario Circuit, that means the 8-shaped track is it, and if you may've noticed the track with Peach's Castle is the same as the 8-shaped track. Photos are as follows: (--BlueYoshi211 22:00, 11 June 2013 (EDT))

Does this count?

Sorry to set of bob-omb (he, humorous word play) but the anti-gravity racing thing was done years ago in Crash Nitro kart, much to disappoint that this game offers nothing really new, but being a pain aside would this count as trivia? - Cubeguy2ver.pngCubeguy(talk)

It's a new gimmick for the Mario Kart series, at least.
Mario Green.pngBazooka Mario BadaBoom! 00:14, 12 June 2013 (EDT)
Yes but is it able to go in trivia? - Cubeguy2ver.pngCubeguy(talk)

Suits of Armor

With the suits of armour on th e haunted house level, the ones with the giant hammers that try to crush passing racers, would they be counted as non-playable? - Cubeguy2ver.pngCubeguy(talk)

That or make a new section for obstacles. Yoshi876 (talk)

Maybe we should add a section for obstacles, but we would be adding lots, like Pipes, Trams, pillars, roller coasters & clock hands. Might not be worth it. - Ninelevendo, the Blue Lightning! (talk)

Reference in new track

Isn't the track with sweets similar to the Sugar Rush track as seen in the movie Wreck-It Ralph? Green Yoshi Super Chris HelperArtwork of Mario

Don't think so, as we have had a a sweet-themed course before BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 19:17, 15 June 2013 (EDT)
I see where you're going ever since Mario was mentioned quite a lot in the movie, plus Bowser was there too. I'm starting to think Nintendo is starting to blend Mario and Wreck-It-Ralph. Anyway it does look an awful lot like Sugar Rush.

CRode (talk)

Wait, you forgot Tart Top, it's not just Cookie Land, since Tart Top is sweet-themed. --Meinfoo22 (talk) 20:54, 18 July 2013 (EDT)

I really did not think that Mario was mentioned a whole lot in the movie- in fact, I really did not hear of him but once in the movie! I do not think that they are blending the two together- that would cause too much contradictery- I do, however, like the idea of the candy-themed tracks. I love Tart Top and Cookie Land, and putting a candy track would really expand the sweet themed tracks!

He was only mentioned once, so I don't think that puts Wreck-It Ralph on the table yet. For now, I think it's just a sweets course whose creation may have been influenced by Sugar Rush. MarioComix (talk) 20:04, 6 September 2013 (EDT)

Parts Confirmed

Wouldn't it be possible to start adding a list of parts. We can't necessarily name what the karts are, but we know what some of the wheels are. In Nintendo's Mario Kart 8 Trailer I have noted the appearance of standard, monster, and slim wheels on both karts and bikes.
The preceding unsigned comment was added by TheOxymoron431 (talk).

I understand what your getting at here. But it was never actually stated that customization would return this time. Also the vehicles shown all stay the same. Until more info is dropped we really shouldn't make a list for parts. - Cubeguy2ver.pngCubeguy(talk)
In the demo, you can play only a set combination. I'm certain that this feature will return, as I saw Wario driving a standard kart with large wheels while other characters drive a standard kart with smaller wheels. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 19:18, 15 June 2013 (EDT)
I know what your saying and I think that would be a good idea for now. However, if you compare the karts and bikes throughout the video you can specifically note the monster (ex: wario, daisy, waluigi), standard (ex: mario, yoshi, donkey kong), and slim (ex: peach, luigi (the slim tires do have a new design which I prefer to the old version)). Along with the conclusion of coins I am also highly confident that the customization feature will return (and I really liked that idea, mix it up a little.....or a lot).

Dry Dry Desert or just a desert track?

I've watched the trailer quite a few times now and the desert track doesn't seem to look like Dry Dry Desert much. The screenshots we have also don't show much of the track so we don't have much proof of it being Dry Dry Desert. Should we just change it to a desert track possibly being Dry Dry Desert? Sprite of Yoshi's stock icon from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Tails777 Talk to me!Robin's stock icon from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

I think that's be best, I mean to me it more resembles Dry Dry Ruins from what I've seen because of the falling pillars. So it'd be better to have it a desert course. Yoshi876 (talk)
Its missing many things from Dry Dry Ruins to be that track, but it does have features of Dry Dry Desert, though the original course doesn't have falling pillars, if it is not a new course, which it may be a new course, it is probably a new feature of the track like how Nintendo has added glide ramps to the retro courses in Mario kart 7. BlueYoshi211 (talk)
I did watch gameplay footage of the original Dry Dry Desert and it looks very similar to the start of the course, but with the falling pillars I really don't know. Yoshi876 (talk)

I took these photos of the track from the trailer and I don't see much of a reseblence to Dry Dry Desert. While there are some similarities, I still don't think it's the course. Sprite of Yoshi's stock icon from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Tails777 Talk to me!Robin's stock icon from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

I think it's Dry Dry Desert. After all, it's appearing as a retro course. --Meinfoo22 (talk) 20:50, 18 July 2013 (EDT)

I think it Might Be Wii's Dry Dry Ruins, seeing that the falling pillars seem to return. I am not saying this is true, however- Nintendo hasn't said a word about it.

I agree. It does look a lot like that course.
The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk).

I found a clue that maybe confirm if it is Dry Dry Desert, in the image below in the photo of Mario Kart 8 if you look closely, on the right side we can see the two statues that are after the quick sand (picture below ) also have the same shape, I hope this has helped a little. Mario Kart Comparision

I also saw those in Mario Kart Wii's Dry Dry Ruins.

This is a link to a photo I just saw: on the right hand side, you can see a falling pillar like the ones on Wii's Dry Dry Ruins!!,r:59,s:0,i:268&tx=123&ty=60

In the original track there are pillars that are already fallen in a similarly winded area, so it's likely something new they're adding on. MarioComix (talk) 22:24, 2 October 2013 (EDT)

Sorry im late lost my car keys...what? Nothing! Anyway, i saw this and decided to find "similarities" that may support it being the Gamecube version, First may i point out the wii version does not have such corners, secondly they seem to match with the gamecubes version albiet background redsigns and graphic updates make it a bit harder to work out. To sum up theres a %10 chance of it being the wii version a %20 chance of being the Gamecube version and a %70 chance of being a new track altogether. Also i would recommend, from here on out suspending discussions of unknown tracks from screenshots unless it can be strongly confirmed it is the said track. For these always end with this phrase in some way *ahem* Until more about the (subject being) track is revealed we cannot confirm, either release of details on the site or when the game comes out will answer our curiosity. Also this particular discussion has gotten pretty long, and yes iv written a lot too it just now. So until more about the track or game is revealed we cannot confirm, either release of details on the site or when the game comes out will answer our curiosity. - Cubeguy2ver.pngCubeguy(talk) BOO!! ^w^

So should we keep Dry Dry Desert listed on the article or change it to "Unnamed desert track"? Sprite of Yoshi's stock icon from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Tails777 Talk to me!Robin's stock icon from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

It should be changed to unknown desert track until it can be fully proven what it is. - Cubeguy2ver.pngCubeguy(talk) BOO!! ^w^
I 100% officially agree that it is GCN Dry Dry Desert, especially now with what MarioYoshi2 said above. -BlueYoshi211 20:09, 28 October 2013 (EDT)
How come it now lists GCN Dry Dry Desert under retro courses? There has been no real evidence. However, the fact that it was not shown in the Nintendo Direct with the other Nitro Courses, then this may be a hint that it is Dry Dry Desert.

-Yoshi dude44

In the newest trailer, there's a poster with Toad and a picture of a desert scene and if you look closely it says "Dry Dry Desert." Seems like pretty good evidence to me. (TheWoody322)

Maybe it's a new Dry Dry Desert. They do not show retro course pictures on nitro courses.

I noticed that those statues are also on Dry Dry Ruins as well. they aren't that hard to find- THEY ARE AT BOTH THE STARTING LINE AND THE ENTRANCE TO THE PYRAMID!!!

yes I know, but look at your location and compare them.

MKWii-DryDryRuins2.png Dry Dry Ruins (Wii)

clearly do not match because the statues of Dry Dry Ruins are attached to a wall. while that of Mario Kart 8 is not attached to any wall and are located just after the curves as Dry Dry Desert. moreover, in Sunshine Airport and it was shown that Dry Dry Desert comes back as there is a sign with Toad and a desert that says Dry Dry Desert Yoshi animated in the select character screen.Mario Yoshi Artwork of Double Mario from Super Mario 3D World. Two!

Again, I feel it should be removed once more, mainly for the same reason we're not labeling the nitro tracks. The latest trailer showed nothing of any retro tracks and like the nitro tracks, we shouldn't rely on Sunshine Airport as a source. Even with the small similarities, there still isn't enough proof that this track is Dry Dry Desert. Sprite of Yoshi's stock icon from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Tails777 Talk to me!Robin's stock icon from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Maybe they are really unattached. The Wii couses might of gotten thicker.
The preceding unsigned comment was added by ‎ (talk).

but which there is the entrance to the ruins is really too LOGICAL there is NO ENTRACE. Now look at the image, comparing those statues with GCN Dry Dry Desert also going exactly the same way the same curves is more than true that this track is GCN Dry Dry Desert. Also because reason would put the name of this track in Sunshine Airport? use the logic. Yoshi animated in the select character screen.Mario Yoshi Artwork of Double Mario from Super Mario 3D World. in the nintendo direct I've seen a Princess Peach do a wheelie in the minute 10:15 and at 10:20 MarioYoshi2 (talk)

So far it's only happened when she gets a speed boost from something like a mushroom. For now I don't think they can actually do wheelies manually like in Mario Kart Wii. MarioComix (talk) 21:17, 28 July 2013 (EDT)
If anyone is willing to capture a screenshot, I would believe this but, in the Direct at the said time, I only see Peach drifting. So until further notice I do not believe that bikes can not do wheelies, and can go into second tier. BlueYoshi211(talk)

I would say they would have to include wheelies in the game, othewise the motorcycles would be just go- karts with only 2 wheels!

Further evidence, at the very beginning of the neon track we see Mario do a wheelie, and Wario wheelies in the GBA Mario Circuit.MKguy7 (talk) 22:19, 14 February 2014 (EST)

I'm pretty sure that that is just the effect on the bike when the player receives a boost. Plus, Bikes can do Red Mini-Turbo's now, so that almost deconfirms manual wheelies - Ninelevendo, the Blue Lightning! (talk)

WHAT?!? Where did you find the quote-on-quote "Red Mini-Turbos?" I never saw those ONCE in the trailer!

You didn't play the demo, did you? I think they had Super Mini Turbo's, can't remember for sure, but wheelies are only possible during boosts for mushrooms or the like. - Ninelevendo, the Blue Lightning! (talk)

Supported controllers.

According to the E3 Nintendo Direct, and also Wikipedia, Mario Kart 8 seems to support Wii Remote + Nunchuck, and the Wii U Pro Controller, along with the ones listed. smb3master (talk)

Double Dash mode

People seem to misinterpret the whole "Double Dash" idea from this interview:

But they said this: "For Mario Kart 7, and 8, we decided not to use it." so that basically means it's deconfirmed. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 18:26, 27 September 2013 (EDT)

References section

Does the game having 12 players really count as a reference to MKW? We must be pretty desperate to fill that section. 14:56, 5 October 2013 (EDT)

Personally, it shouldn't be a reference to the game. Mario Kart 8 is on a home console that can fit more in games than the previous one so it makes sense that Nintendo would do that so it should be removed. New Track Names

In the beginning of the new Mario Kart trailer in a scene at the airport, and in a second scene moments after, "destinations" are listed on a screen that are probably just course names. Also the name of the airport in the new trailer is "Sunshine Airport." So if it's anything like Coconut Mall (In which the course was named after its location) then that course will probably be called Sunshine Airport.

  • Cloudtop Cruise - definitely the new cloud/battleship course
  • Thwomp Ruins - the "ruins" course with Thwomps (duh) (probably the same one they showed off at E3 too)
  • Sweet Sweet Canyon - the sweet-themed course we saw today and back at E3
  • Bone Dry Dunes - probably the desert-esque course seen with part of Dry Bowser's head in it
  • Dolphin Shoals - not sure but a shoal is pretty much a sandbar near an ocean so I'm pretty sure we haven't seen this one yet
  • Shy Guy Falls - Sounds like it could be water-related, but not sure since we have't seen anything that this might be

This is sadly not a confirmation or a fact however, just a huge hint. This may be better to keep in the trivia section, or not at all, for now. Koopalmier (talk) 15:32, 18 December 2013 (EST)
Nintendo is great at showing new things for only a split amount of time, and Sweet Sweet Canyon is also shown in one of the posters just like Dry Dry Ruins in the Sunshine Airport course. So I'm adding it as the track's name. - BlueYoshi211

All of these have been confirmed EXCEPT Bone Dry Dunes and Cloudtop Cruise as far as I know. Also, where does it state Cloudtop Cruise being in the special cup?

Both those tracks were confirmed through official Nintendo facebook pages. The sources were removed, but there is also footage of Cloudtop Cruise that shows both the name and the cup. Confirming the real names of tracks

This is bugging me. I don't see how names listed in the airport track confirm the names of other tracks. Sure the names are convenient to the tracks confirmed, but I don't feel that's the best source we have. Nintendo themselves never said this was true and it's an AIRPORT track, for all we know, they could be names placed there as eye candy. I think it's best to wait until a more official source can confirm this. Sprite of Yoshi's stock icon from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Tails777 Talk to me!Robin's stock icon from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

I didn't personally add the names to the actual page (and I know it isn't fully official) but those names are way too close to be just a coincidence --TheWoody322
Even so, it's still better to wait until something more official is said about them. No matter how convenient it is, it's speculation never the less. You said it yourself, you don't know if it's officially confirmed therefore we should wait. Sprite of Yoshi's stock icon from Super Smash Bros. I was never saying with that comment that we shouldn't wait, I was just stating I'm pretty sure it's more than just "eye candy." --TheWoody322

Dry Dry RUINS. Not Dry Dry Desert.

I have noticed falling pillars and the Yoshi Sphinx. Throughout the footage I can find, these are characteristics of Dry Dry Ruins on the Wii version, and not Dry Dry Desert on the Gamecube version. However, I could be wrong, as I have truly never played Double Dash. However, a majority of retro courses don't change many large things, and the pillars do have some significance. Watch out for potentially BETA features.

After thinking about it, I have decided that it is quite possible that the 2 player vertical split-screen has a good chance of not making it to the final game just like what happened for Mario Kart 64.
The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk).

If that's the case it'll be taken off the article and moved to the beta elements page when the game is released. Yoshi876 (talk)
The splitscreen is supposed to take advantage of HD TV's tendencies to be very wide. I doubt it would go as a beta element. Alright, I saw it added to the page and removed, but I have noticed a few things, including the pendulum and the two sets of gears near the end. Pause at 1:38 to see. Honestly, I think we have fair proof that this stage may be back. I have practically memorized the course, from how many times I've played it, and the turns, power-up locations, pendulum, and gears all seem to have a solid confirmation of this track. CompliensCreator (talk) 18:18, 13 February 2014 (EST)

Track Names Confirmed?

GameXplain released another analysis video about the new tracks shown in the latest trailer. They analyzed the track names that seem to fit with the theme. Like there is the waterfall track with shy guys everywhere, seems like Shy Guy Falls. And that screenshot of the dolphin underwater track also was in the trailer for 3 secs could be called Dolphin Shoals. And the Water Park in the trailer with Wario Wheel and Sub Coaster has an ad in the Sunshine Airport that says Water Park, also a mailbox in the track itself says Water Park. So shouldn't we at least put "possibly (posible track name)" at the end of every Nitro track listed on the page? CRode (talk)

No because possible is a speculative term and we don't allow speculation. Yoshi876 (talk)

Water Park is very unlikely to be the name, as it sound horrible for a track name compared to the other tracks which have pretty good names, like Cloudtop Cruise and Bone Dry Dunes. ~siwel619

Who knows? Maybe it does turn out to be the name of the course. Nintendo can fudge up names at points like that. This is the reason we don't allow speculation :P BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 21:48, 2 March 2014 (EST)
I don't know but so far all track names have been proven the same as airport destinations. As for i don't know about the Water Park, I'm positive Dolphin Shoals and Bone Dry Dunes are those other 2 courses. Which leaves us with 2 final Nitro courses possibly being Bowser's Castle and Rainbow Road due to all the past games. LuigiMK8.pngThis is Weegee's Year!Sprite of the Emerald Star in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

Actually, 4 more nitro courses, because Bone Dry Dunes is probably the desert track with the bones, and Dolphin Shoals is probably the ocean track with the dolphin rock formations. The 4 remaining courses could be, like you said, Bowser's Castle and Rainbow Road, but that leaves 2 more tracks left, one of which could be a DK themed track, and the other one could be a circuit, seeing that only one circuit has been shown off, and in every mario kart there has been more than one circuit. ~Siwel619

Assuming we'll even have 16 nitro tracks anyway... BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 19:25, 5 March 2014 (EST)

And they can't just be listed as conjectural because...? You have Naming guidelines for a reason. Why not apply that here? Why does it have to be "official" all of a sudden? Perhaps you guys should find a way to overcome your personal scruples? BirdoFan87 (talk) 22:23, 19 March 2014 (EDT)

I think this is a different situation. These tracks will get official names near the time the game is released so there is no point on putting speculative names as placeholders. Articles like the Llama Temple or the Almighty Goomba are things that either haven't received official names by Nintendo or we simply don't know them and don't have a source to confirm them. We have them listed as conjectural because we gotta have the article somewhere and most of those articles are on subject that have been around way before the wiki even was. We aren't making these articles yet and by the time we do, the official names will most likely be out. Sprite of Yoshi's stock icon from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Tails777 Talk to me!Robin's stock icon from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
They aren't entirely speculative, as official media, in this case, a Nintendo Direct, blatantly shows the name of them inside the airport itself. Yeah, it may go by fast, but that doesn't make their existence any less valid. I could see if a third party website threw out some random track names in an article, that would be speculation. But given Nintendo Directs come straight from the horse's mouth, and that track names from those lists are being confirmed one by one, what harm is it to list them as conjectural? If they are different, then change them. I don't see how these names are "random" when they clearly match up with the tracks we have seen in the trailers. It boggles my mind how these aren't even conjectural. I've read over the Naming and Conjecture pages and these track names appear to meet all the criteria BirdoFan87 - Always fighting for the underdog (talk) 00:37, 20 March 2014 (EDT)
While you do bring up a good point, I'm still not sure if we do that anyway. Like I said, it we're getting official names anyway, there really is no point on putting up a placeholder name, even if the name and track are closely related. As Baby Luigi said basically twice a few sections up, no matter how close things may be, putting them down is still veering towards speculation which isn't allowed. Sprite of Yoshi's stock icon from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Tails777 Talk to me!Robin's stock icon from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
By definition, conjecture IS speculation. They are synonymous. Yet we have a Conjecture page on this Wiki. If speculation isn't allowed, why bother having a Conjecture page detailing how to use conjectural names? BirdoFan87 - Always fighting for the underdog (talk) 01:01, 20 March 2014 (EDT)
My main point is why add conjectural names if we'll get official ones eventually? Pages that have conjectural titles are articles Nintendo hasn't given names to and we've given them names that best suit what the subject is about. Now I know that is speculation, but getting a source for a name on something as old as the Llama Temple is what I assume to be a rather difficult task. In this situation, it's safe to assume that we'll get all the track names eventually so there is no need to put down conjectural names. Sprite of Yoshi's stock icon from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Tails777 Talk to me!Robin's stock icon from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Conjecture doesn't involve yet-to-be-released content. It's only used for enemies, characters, etc. that have appeared in previously released games and such, but lack an official name. ExdeathIcon.png Lord G. matters. ExdeathIcon.png 01:07, 20 March 2014 (EDT)

Then perhaps the Conjecture and Naming page should be revised to include that conveniently stated detail. BirdoFan87 - Always fighting for the underdog (talk) 01:14, 20 March 2014 (EDT)
It should also be pointed out, like I have posted on the forums that names could have (1. just be random names for things unrelated to the game, and (2. are liable to change because it's not the final product and it'd be better to use only the real names rather than names that we assumed to be true because of some thing we saw. Yoshi876 (talk)
1.) So you are saying, at this point, they mixed up official names and random names on the flight calendars? It only makes sense if it was one or the other. Either they are real name of tracks, or they aren't. We know what direction they are heading. 2.) Again, I do not see the problem as long as they are conjecture, which BabyLuigi claims we don't do yet we have a dedicated page to such a topic with guidelines. The fact that it's an up-and-coming game is a detail not very well expressed in either Conjecture or Naming pages, unless it was conjured up out of thin air to justify why the remaining (could be random) names haven't been out on the page. Remember folks "Shy Guy Falls" and "Dolphin Shoals" could be random. BirdoFan87 - Always fighting for the underdog (talk) 03:10, 20 March 2014 (EDT)

Mind you, I don't speak for anyone else, but I think it's done to avoid excessive pages moves, edit wars, and other miscellaneous floundering about. Things like this happen a lot over at the YGO wikia for example, given that they deal wth name translations for every new card and such. The names might not be 'random' so much as they are 'sound like perfect tracks names until Nintendo takes a left turn and names them something completely different'. It's also generally considered unwise to jump the gun when it comes to official names, or at least that's what I've learned from editing over the years. ExdeathIcon.png Lord G. matters. ExdeathIcon.png 03:22, 20 March 2014 (EDT)

At least your making plausible sense, instead of giving me the runaround like everyone else. BirdoFan87 - Always fighting for the underdog (talk) 03:54, 20 March 2014 (EDT)
Well, for whatever this is worth, I'm reading through some of what was said above, and at least some of what I've said has been previously stated there. Regardless, I'm glad I could clear things up some. ExdeathIcon.png Lord G. matters. ExdeathIcon.png 04:02, 20 March 2014 (EDT)
It's mostly speculation this and speculation that, and practically using that as a scapegoat reason to not add the names when this wiki knowingly has a conjecture page, and Naming page, both of which lack the detail that up-and-coming games do not fall under the realm of conjecture in the first. If they had said what you said above, perhaps many people would have understood the reasoning, but instead various editors quickly slammed the "speculation hammer" without cause. It's detailed responses like yours that makes it easier to understand the point of view of the Wiki.BirdoFan87 - Always fighting for the underdog (talk) 07:31, 20 March 2014 (EDT)
Birdo Fan is right about the whole speculation hammer thing. Some people need to stop saying that just because of people's wording. We've added Dry Dry Desert (or was it Ruins? Can't remember.) just because of a poster, yet we don't add Star Cup when it clearly stats that it's in the Star Cup or Lightning Cup. Please consider observations as observations and resist saying SPECULATION all the time. - Ninelevendo, the Blue Lightning! (talk)
Wikis like this one work on providing accurate and correct information on articles, thus we avoid conjectural and speculative names as much as possible unless officially confirmed. The track names in the airport are considered speculation because 1. Nintendo obviously wasn't meaning to show the track names off at the time it was revealed: you could see it only as part of the background or when you paused at the certain point in the video and it required more scrupulous observation to discern the names and 2. as we stated earlier, it's possible that Nintendo can do a complete curveball and rename the tracks to something different. It's not hard to change a texture on the track anyway if they did decide to rename a track at the last second. And in my opinion, conjecture names should be ENTIRELY avoided for games that aren't released yet since if we did allow conjecture names for objects that their names aren't released yet, we'd get a ----storm of conjecture names on the items. And if you guys think that this is stupid and think the real name is gonna get confirmed anyway, why are you complaining about this? BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 15:01, 20 March 2014 (EDT)

Extra details and possibilities discovered

Upon closer examination of the trailers and players suggestions, I found some more possibilities and details. The numbers next to the track names on the airport signs could be the record times for that course. The track leading into and out of the PTT cargo plane is actually part of the plane's wing. The cargo crate on the conveyor belt has some sort of picture on it. I can't really make out what it's a picture of regardless of the zoom level, but GameXplain said it highly resembles Gearmo. Gearmo might be another possible character in the game. There is a sea star petrified in the pavement of Bone Dry Dunes which may hint that the track was once a bustling port (due to the ship visible in the background). Royal Patisserie, Peach and Daisy may hint that Sweet Sweet Canyon belongs to Peach and Daisy. Galaxy Air and Propeller Toad Transport may hint that Sunshine Airport belongs to Toad and Rosalina. The island in the background of Sunshine Airport resembles a turtle. The shops in Toad Harbor may hint that Coconut Mall may return as a retro course. and that's pretty much all I can find for now. I'll update the moment I get more.-- 03:42, 26 March 2014 (EDT)

Um, how does that relate to anything? Gearmo is just an Ad slogan, that isn't hinting that he's (it?) a possible character. We don't have any proof of courses belonging to characters ( which we wouldn't put down anyway really). All the other little bits and pieces can go onto the tracks trivia when it's created, otherwise, we have no proof. Thanks for the info anyway. - The Blue Lighting 03:53, 26 March 2014 (EDT)

I've noticed that the ads (Royal Patisserie and Propeller Toad Transport) appear on certain vehicles too; the PTT ad on Luigi's kart as he races on DS Tick-Tock Clock and the Royal Patisserie on Rosalina's orange bike. So, I don't think they mean anything. MarioComix (talk) 04:58, 26 March 2014 (EDT)

Coconut Mall was already in Mario Kart 7 as a retro course, I think it's highly unlikely that Gearmo is a playble character. Yoshi_dude44 (talk) 6:23, 26 March 2014 (EDT)

If Coconut Mall was remade MK8 would be the third game in a row that Coconut Mall was in. I find it unlikely for any course after the SNES ones to be remade a third time at all anyway. I don't think Gearmo will be a playable character, and I wouldn't say anything about it yet, and since it's not really easy to make out, it may be a coincidence. -'Shroom64: The Mushroomeditor

Ok, I actually meant to say that Gearmo might have some sort of role in the game. I never said he was playable. Anyways, there is an ad sign in Toad Harbor displaying "Super Marine World". That might be the name of the marine-based theme park race track. Also in one of the screenshots of the ocean park track, there is a carousel made up of shells. Its name is partway displayed and GameXplain might think it spells out the word "Shell" since it make sense of the ride seats taking the form of shells. However, a YouTuber suspects the name of the ride may be called "Caroushell" since it's a carousel with shells for ride seats. The bird nest and eggs in Thwomp Ruins and Shy Guy Falls might belong to a bird that lives in that area. It was pointed out in the 3rd trailer at the part when Bowser and the Koopalings getting ready to enter a flying section in Shy Guy Falls during the trailer.-- 21:14, 31 March 2014 (EDT)

I just don't get why we need to know this info right now. It's practically useless speculation until we make extra stuff when the game is released. Just add this info yourself when the game is out. - Ninelevendo's Sig Image 22:06, 31 March 2014 (EDT)

Agreed, there is no real reason to put them anywhere and it has been made very clear that some things like these are speculation. Interesting. What will we do with the new items? I can't see making an article about them without so much as a name. This is just speculation, but they seem to resemble a Light Box and an 8-based item similar to the Lucky 7...(Also: It's Portuguese, according to Translate. Thanks Chrome!) Ok... Tranlated and trimmed: IGN has just confirmed three new tracks for Mario Kart 8: Donut Plains 3, Rainbow Road (N64) and Sweet Sweet Road. It is confirmed that 2 rainbow Roads will be in this game+ 2 new items: The Lucky7 will return with a modern design, and an item looking like the cannon/light box from SM3DW. There are more info... If my translate looks good, I can continue Ashley Ashley(and Red) Artwork of Ashley from WarioWare: Touched!

If you want me to be honest, why would they bring back the "Lucky 7"? Should't they bring in a "Lucky 8"? (get it?)

Well Lucky 7 with a new modern look. Lucky 8? Crazy 8? Nintendoplayerawesome (talk) 19:30, 11 April 2014 (EDT)

Actually, 8 is considered 'Lucky' in certain areas and countries. (is it China or Japan?) So it could be the Lucky 8. Otherwise we don't know what it is yet. - Ninelevendo's Sig Image 22:02, 11 April 2014 (EDT)

Fourth MK game with retro courses?

The page says "For the fourth time in the series, courses from previous Mario Kart games will be included"...won't this be the fifth? Super Circuit, Kart DS, Kart Wii, Kart 7, and now MK8?

Yeah, your right. I better change that. - Ninelevendo's Sig Image 06:03, 4 April 2014 (EDT)

Although MKSC had retro tracks, I don't think it should be considered a Retro Returner, if you know what I mean.

Why not? It makes courses from the past game(s) return, unless you mean 'turns old courses into a blend for a cup'. - Ninelevendo's Sig Image 01:21, 9 April 2014 (EDT)

Super Circuit doesn't count because the tracks in those cups were imported from Super Mario kart. Reused but not counted as retro tracks. --Nintendoplayerawesome (talk) 19:27, 11 April 2014 (EDT)Nintendoplayerawesome

All it's saying is that 'Tracks from past games will be included' not 'have tracks in a retro cup' if you know what I mean. - Ninelevendo's Sig Image 17:07, 14 April 2014 (EDT)

Kart parts info 1:32, one of the guys confirms the name of the pink car as the "Badwagon", and at 1:50 and also confirmed in GX's Q&A, the wiggler buggy seems to be called the "Wild Wiggler". / these tires on Iggy's submarine kart... they look like some steel-type sort? the tires on her buggy resemble buttons.

"Seems" to be called? Oh well, I'm going to add these if I can. Thanks. Which one is the "pink" car? The article is vague when describing it. Mario Green.pngBazooka Mario BadaBoom! 21:32, 4 April 2014 (EDT)

Anytime. I say "seems" because it hasn't been actually confirmed from Nintendo, but two reliable sources seems good enough. And sorry for not being specific, by "pink car" I'm referring to the one that Peach drove in the second trailer and the one that Roy drove in the 3rd, or as the article describes it: the one that resembles the Flame Flyer / Wild Wing :p. The one with the boombox in the back. -- somebody might want to put an astrix next to the Pipe Frame since Baby Daisy can be seen here driving an orange one Mahdi (talk) 22:06, 4 April 2014 (EDT)

Thanks for specifying. It's really the article that's incredibly vague, so it's not your fault. I'll put up the asterisk as well. Thanks, and make sure you sign your comments with ~~~~. Mario Green.pngBazooka Mario BadaBoom! 21:45, 4 April 2014 (EDT)

Just fixed the signing my comments thing, my bad. Thank you so much for editing it! Last thing, the "orange bike body that resembles the mach bike" that Rosalina drove in the second trailer is actually the same as the one Larry drove in the third, just with a different color. , , the backs of them also match perfectly, so you should probably change the text from "an orange bike" to "a bike" and put an asterix Thanks for your help =D

Also, a funny thing: this frame of Rosa's bike from the second trailer actually had the Lemmy's Tire Service thing on it before he was even announced. xD Again, thank you. Mahdi (talk) 22:06, 4 April 2014 (EDT)

It's not bothering me at all, and I like being given something short and simple to do. I think I remember seeing "Lemmy's Tire Service" but these kinds of sponsor don't really confirm the Koopaling thing, but I guess it's a nice basis for hindsight bias. Oh well, thanks! Diddy Kong?

The latest "Revista Oficial Nintendo" dedicated an article about Mario Kart 8 and listed Diddy Kong in the Playable Characters. Can this magazine be considered a reliable source? Ponyshment (talk) 11:24, 14 April 2014 (EDT)

Yes and No. Because yes, you could put it as a reference, but Waluigi isn't this.could be a mistake: Diddy instead of Waluigi. Also these scans don't look ro be official: They use already released art (instead of exclusive) for the MK8 arts of the wiki. The other ones are the arts used in the later, yes, I think tgat you could...but is at your risk. :P Good luck! Ashley in G&W Ashley(and Red) My 3d world.png
I can't edit this page anyway so I'll let someone else do it if they think it's legit. Since it's an official Nintendo magazine, I think it's not that risky to trust it. Also, Waluigi isn't the only character missing: Donkey Kong, Toad, Toadette and Koopa aren't present on the page as well. I doubt Diddy Kong replaces all of those by mistake. I understand but Birdo and King Boo are also a veterans for example. Would it be logical to assume, that Diddy Kong is returning due to the source, Funky Kong of popularity, and Kamek because their is a slot next to the Koopalings? I don't see Bowser Jr. appearing because of the Koopalings.

Come on, a veteran that has made a playable appearance in almost every series and is Bowser's Kid, getting replaced by them? Anyway, don't see how those guys are in, but do you have any links to those articles? - Ninelevendo's Sig Image 21:40, 18 April 2014 (EDT)

I don't but I can tell you where I saw the link. If you type in "Diddy Kong is unconfirmed after all" click the link and scroll to the comments. In the first comment box there should be a link. It may not work but if it does you'll see what I saw. Thank you for looking into by question so soon by the way.

No problem, but I still can't find it. If you find and and are able to.make a link, that would be appreciated. Thanks :) - Ninelevendo's Sig Image 23:01, 18 April 2014 (EDT)

Will do. In your opinion, do you think their is going to be a baby Rosalina? I ask because if you look at that leaked roster, Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, and Rosalina are lined up to each other. Then two rows down, we have Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Baby Peach, Baby Daisy and then an empty slot. Do you think that's possible or is it only me?

they probably won't put baby rosalina because baby mario, luigi, and peach are there cause they were characters in yoshi's island series. baby daisy wasn't but she is a counterpart to peach anyway so that really didn't matter. but you never know they might actually read this post and think of yet another big twist in gameplay. I hope this answers that opinion.
The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk).

And can y'all stop "speculating" on the characters? Talk Pages are not the places to discuss this, instead go to the forums. Talk Pages are to discuss how to make the page better, not your "ideas". For example, a source said something about a Baby Rosalina, then ask if it should be added, but this is getting out of hand. MarioComix (talk) 02:02, 19 April 2014 (EDT)

He's right, although a little bit can be said, not a whole paragraph on who you think is there. Me talking about Bowser Jr. is usually just me not seeing why that would happen, and displays my option while keeping on topic. So have you got any of ye links yet? Cause I'm thinking your source isn't reliable enough to take into consideration. Sorry, I think I started all that "speculating", so blame me. - Ninelevendo's Sig Image 02:28, 19 April 2014 (EDT)

I found the link and tried to upload it to the website. It didn't work, or I might have done something wrong, I don't know. It doesn't matter. Sorry about the source I found but couldn't do anything with and I'm also sorry about talking about speculation here. I'll be more cautious next time.

We'll just have to see when more info about the game comes out. Also the Miis haven't been confirmed yet either so hopefully those final three slots aren't the last. Maybe there will be several more characters. User:Nintendoplayerawesome

You can't say that there are only three characters left. This could just be a demo screen, like at E3. Siwel619

Battle mode?

I'm not sure whether i'm the only one that realized this but Nintendo haven't released any information on battle mode? did they take out the awesome coin runners and balloon battle or are they just waiting to give a surprise?
The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk).

Sadly at this point we just don't know. What we do know is that there very likely be battle as well as vs modes; this guy in a MK8 preview video said there were 4 modes on the menu, but of course it was a demo so it was locked. Hopefully in the coming weeks we will learn more about battle, as well as online modes. Mahdi (talk) 00:36, 19 April 2014 (EDT)

There may possibly a new mode. If there be a new mode, I don't what it would be. Maybe the next video about the game will tell us more. Does anyone know when the next video or batch of information about MK8 will come out or is it spontaneous. User:FireFlower

The four modes on the menu could just be 1 player, multiplayer, wi-fi and records, so I would wait for more info. And we don't really have any way of knowing when new info is out, so just be patient. - Ninelevendo's Sig Image 02:31, 19 April 2014 (EDT)

That 8 item.

I was reading the page, when I saw that there was an Unknown item, that was exactly like the '8' on the Artwork. I think this will be like the Lucky Seven, or maybe it is just a placeholder for a new one - much like the MKDS beta Chain Chomp.

Oh, and also: What will this 'Potted Piranha Plant' do? Because, I think that maybe it will attack the player next to you (like mario_course or old_mario_gc in MKDD and Mario Kart Wii, or whatever the file names are), and the other player flips over like in MKDD when getting hit by a Red Shell from the side.

Oh, and have they based the Title Screen or any of the Courses off another game - MK7 had similar title screen to MKDS Beta's SEQ_CIRCUIT2, for example.

This is my first post for a long time on this wiki, because I forgot about my account. Also, I prefer a capital letter at the start of my username now. But I will shut up, because this caused problems on NSMBHD... Sorry I go on too long!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-- Luigi442wii (19th April 2014, 2:04 pm GMT (British Summer Time in place)

For the 8 item, either of those could be true, but we can't say anything until we know for sure what it is. The Potted Piranha Plant attacks nearby racers and when it does it can provide speed as well, similar to its recent debut in Super Mario 3D World. (And by "old_mario_gc you mean GCN Mario Circuit, right?) As for the title screen, I'm not sure; I myself have not been to the recent demo so I don't know if they showed a title screen. And what do you mean exactly by Mario Kart 7's title screen being based off of a beta race course? -'Shroom64: The Mushroomeditor

I have a question about the potted pirahna item. First, I noticed it has 2 wheels for karts and ATV's but wht about bikes? Second, what about the anti- gravity section? Does its wheel fold inwards as well?

I doubt anyone really paid any attention to that detail. If no one has any info on this, we can wait until the game's released. -'Shroom64: The Mushroomeditor

Ten Cups?

Found this picture on a Chinese website: 22:56, 25 April 2014 (EDT)

Nope, someone over at Gamefaqs edited the original pic and added two of those blanked out cups to give us an idea of how the game would look with 2 more cups. The chinese website just managed to get a hold of that, but nothings confirmed yet. Keep your fingers crossed! Mahdi (talk) 00:00, 26 April 2014 (EDT)

Nintendo unveiled N64 Rainbow Road, and we know that it's in the Lightning Cup. In the article it says: "The course returns in Mario Kart 8 as the last retro course among all of the retro courses." Whether that is confirmed or not, I'm not sure, but I think it's true seeing as to how MK7's last Retro course was SNES Rainbow Road.

That said, they probably won't add another cup to only the Nitro Cups because in Super Circuit, the Lightning Cup was created so that there was an Extra version of each Nitro Cup.

Of course, Nintendo could do anything with the game and all of this could be proven wrong, but this is what I think is likely. -'Shroom64: The Mushroomeditor

Was that just a mistake?

Was what? The statement I quoted earlier of N64 Rainbow Road being the last Retro course? Or the image of ten cups? Also:

Mario Kart 7 Stat System Returns

I found a screenshot, which apparently has the vehicles using Mario Kart 7's stat system, with the visible stats being Speed, Acceleration, Weight, Handling, and Off-Road; I can't understand Japanese, however. Much like with Mario Kart 7, the stat value maximum appears to be 6 if you're going by multiples of 0.25, but if you want to use integers only, then the stat maximum would be 24, with a full bar equaling 4 stat points; 1/4 full = 1; 1/2 full = 2; 3/4 full = 3. Additional details discovered and confirmed

I just found in the new rainbow road track that one of the space stations highly resemble a Blooper. Rosalina's right eye is just barely visible. The crates at Sunshine Airport sometimes deploy item box items i.e, mushrooms. One of the stickers on the crate isnt Gearmo at all! Its what looks like a podoboo. Alongside that sticker is a fragile cup sticker and a "this end's up" sticker. In one of the new screenshots, Toadette's bike highly resembles the princess orange bike, only it seems like it has a different picture on it. I can't really make out what it is from my POV, but it looks like a luma. In the electrodrome track tiles, you can barely see a star carved into them. Also, one question. Why does it say "Baby Rosalina makes her overall debut"? Like I don't seem to understand by the word "overall".-- 21:03, 1 May 2014 (EDT)

This is her debut in the series overall, as in, in the whole Mario series. MarioComix (talk) 21:51, 1 May 2014 (EDT)

Course table change

Settledproposal.svg This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit any of the sections in the proposal. If you wish to discuss the article, do so in a new header below the proposal.

Well, this is an aesthetic change I would like to do with the table for the courses. I had made a new table, as you can see here, but an user reverted it and pointed out that other Mario Kart pages use the current format.

  • Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, Mario Kart: Super Circuit and Mario Kart DS don't use the said format.
    • ...and even if they did, I don't think it should be a rule that every course listing must look the same.
  • About the table I edited, I think it blends in better with the rest of the article.
  • If we have to add PAL names, there will be room for it.
  • It takes up less space.
  • In my opinion, it looks more appealing.

Proposer: MegaKoopa (talk)

Change it

  1. MegaKoopa (talk) Well, my proposal. <:)
  2. Billy-Luigi (talk) Wynaut (:p) It's going to be a new way of living
  3. Mechawave (talk) Yes, change it to this, it looks good for once. I try to make most tables look pleasing to the reader, and I couldn't think of anything for the tracks.
  4. Koopakoolklub (talk) Per proposal, and it's way neater.

  1. Tails777 (talk) The way the table looks now looks fine. This table looks alike to the ones used for MKW and MK7 and those worked out fine.
  2. Ninelevendo (talk) Honestly, this is pretty trivial, and I preferred how it looked early. Had a bit more structure.
  3. Baby Luigi (talk) To be honest, I much prefer the current structure. The proposed structure has a confusing track layout; do you read it from left to right or from top to bottom to determine order? The current one is more simple to follow with its straightforward top-to-bottom reading and our point is to provide information clearly. If the proposed table is gonna cause confusion, then we're better off with the less confusing one.
  4. Vommack (talk) Per Tails & Nin.
  5. 'Shroom64 (talk) I agree with everyone else, and there seems to be no reason to change it. Plus, assuming the images are the same size as the previous template, won't it be wider? I prefer the original template because then it fits the four Nitro cups in a row and the four Retro cups in a row. The proposed template would be a little large.
  6. Yoshi876 (talk) Per all.
  7. Breezebuddy25 (talk) - Leave it alone and stay where it is. Per all.

Well, the images don't need to be big, they are just a preview. If this proposal pass, we can enlarge them a bit. :) Koopa Troopa from Super Paper Mario. MegaKoopa Talk 09:12, 2 May 2014 (EDT)
  • Why exactly are you making a proposal for these changes? Nevermind, I saw now because some crybaby talked about the recent Mario Kart games (someone could change the ones for MKW and MK7 to this format too.) It looks very good, enough to the point no one will change its layout. I have changed a lot of things without making a proposal. --Mechawave (talk) 13:20, 2 May 2014 (EDT)
Hold on, unless someone else brought up the tables from the past MK titles, are you calling me a crybaby for bringing it up? If so A. that was uncalled for and B. Handling is not called Cornering, that was just the term they used in the Direct. The menu shows it is still called Handling. As for the stats, they are inaccurate for the most part. Please don't add character stats until the game is released. Also it is pointless to give each character their own row for the stats since each weight class has the stats (akin to MK7). I'd like the table to be rearranged a bit so readers can have a glance of acceleration, top speed, etc. stats without having to scroll up and down like crazy. Is there a way to do this? Or maybe we can color-code the column. Mario Green.pngBazooka Mario BadaBoom! 14:31, 3 May 2014 (EDT)

Character Stat Differences

Someone has confirmed that characters from the same weight class may not always have the exact same stats. An example can be seen below with Wario and Roy Koopa. I actually think that grip is going to be more like what it was in Mario Kart 64 (Or was it super circuit?) where it measure how the players slide when turning and how well they can get a "Grip" on the road. I think offroad was more how fast you go off the road. -

“A video gamer's life is purer than others, since only he gets the use of a 1-Up Mushroom
Toadbrigade5, Skype

Toadbrigade5 is a 13 year old boy in America. The first character he ever saw is his favorite, Blue Toad (Super Mario Galaxy), when he spied on his cousin playing her copy of the game. Since then this spoiled brat has collected ever Toad merchandise ever created, even with life sized marble statues of all five brigaders, Toadsworth, and even Toadette. He has all Mario games for Wii, Wii U, Nintendo 3ds, and Nintendo ds. Outside Nintendo, he is a math progidy like his favorite Toad, finishing up pre calculas in his first eighth grade semester.

This is in order, Kay?

Blue Toad (Super Mario Galaxy): Adorable, blue (My favorite color), and even with an identical personality.

Toadbert Same as above.

Yellow Toad (Super Mario Galaxy): Cute, especially when asleep.

Birdo: Only one here up high not a Toad, and well... I don't know why my self.

Captain Toad: Hilarious. Flat out hilarious. Scatterbrianed, cowardly, but still adorable.

Toadette: Cute as heck and just awesome.

Toadsworth: Like the stereo type, he's a Toad, and just wow.

Daisy: Tomboy, cool, nice voice. I can go with it.

Iggy Koopa: Intelligent, corny. Perfect. Tall, like me (5 11). Glasses like me.

Rosalina: The backstory is SOOOO touching.

Lemmy Koopa: Adorable.

Luigi: Better than Mario.

Cyan Shy Guy: Favorite color, and Shy Guys are cool yeah?

Not in order.

Wario: Not hated, just, well, not liked. He's funny I admit. But still, don't like him.

Waluigi: Err... he's cool yeah, but 3 hours of slamming my head after my sister told me she had a crush on him on a desk skewed it.

Chain Chomp: I'm actually not kidding scared. In really life, I am dead afraid of dogs. I have fainted due to barking, been dragged on hard concrete till bleeding by a dog, and I am so scared of them. Giant metal car-crushing ones don't do the trick.

Metal Mario: EEEEH... He just, power up rip off, no personality. He could be made good, but not yet...

Queen Bee: No real objections, but I don't think she's worthy of MK7

Pink Gold Peach: This I HATE. 1# above reasons for metal mario, 2# ugly, 3# PEACH IS SUPPOSED TO BE DAINTY, NOT HEAVY METAL!!

Things I like and dislike about Mario

-Colorful, adorable -No violence -Fun, new characters, never gets old -Rpg's have nice storyline -PHYSICS DEFIED!!! -Can get parental aproval

-Cuts characters, pretty sure Birdo is axed. -Storyline starting to fade. Latest 3d platformer series was SO inferior to Galaxy and Sunshine.

Favorite Games

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker Finally. The thing I've waited 13 years for. Toad's own game. I cried the day of E3 because of it. Happy tears. Puzzle, adventure, shows promising signs of storyline, stellar graphics... It's everything I've ever wanted. EVERYTHING.

Super Mario Galaxy Toad brigade. No really, that and awesome storyline, creative characters, and rosalina's backstory.

Mario Kart 8 Just everything everyone else said. Awesome. Best spin off ever. Dlc YAY!

So yeah, I've got some amiibo and I'll share a bit of opinions on it.

Mario: Level 50, Increased Item throwing, x3 Item damage, items do shield breaks, all stats roughly balanced.

DK: Level 50, Increased smash attack damage, power stat excedes 900, but defense is pathetic.

Yoshi: Level 45, Increased dashing speed, speed gradually builds faster, speed exceeds 500, attack is pathetic.

Kirby: Level 50, Shields last longer, defences exceed 1200, speed is like 2, and attack is negative 10 I think.

Notes: My amiibo are trained to acknowledge each others weakness and cover for them.

Team strategies:

Yoshi will attack from multiple sides to keep someone in place for DK to destroy with a roll.

Kirby will drop down to take damage for DK, and Dk will respond by countering.

Everyone throws items at Mario, who uses them.

Mario collects items while everyone else fights for him, until he can pwn them with an item.

Thoughts on amiibo: Incredible. My first one, Kirby, was at level 50 before DK arrived in second, and just watching him go from standing still, to three-stocking 7 level 9 cpu against him was something that made me hug him so hard, and not let go for five minutes. I expected that nothing would happen for my next few, but they continue to surprise me, with DK OHKOing an opponent with a giant punch when he was at 38%.

Its an experience that makes your amiibo feel like a real person, and nothing is more satisfying than sending a rank 50 back to the stand.

At this time only Developers/Nintendo Staff can attach videos to their Miiverse posts. (Example:
Video-uploading to Miiverse (by everyday users) was incorrectly thought of happening, when the NES Remix 2 site said, "This all-new feature [Replay] lets you see recordings of your runs through each stage, as well as other players' replays via Miiverse™." This however didn't mean videos could be uploaded to Miiverse.

Since when is this game a direct sequel to Mario Kart 7

Just because it's "Mario Kart 8" doesn't mean it's a direct sequel. It doesn't even have four 3DS courses! Sure it has most of MK7's stuff, but just because it worked and needed polish. I don't know why Nintendo would label this gem as a sequel to such a sloppy entry in the series. user:mariosonic444

Weight Class Name Issue

A Smash Boards user who goes by the name of Z'zgashi is claiming that the Cruiser class's position is supposed to be for Donkey Kong, Waluigi, Rosalina, and Roy, and NOT for Mario, Luigi, Iggy, and Ludwig. Maybe we should alter the names of the weight classes to something more like the following. RedYoshiMK7Signature.png M&SG (talk) 14:56, 5 May 2014 (EDT)

Character Stats

Feather 2.25 3.25 2.25 4.75 4.5

Character Weight Classes

On the Mario Kart 8 site under Drivers, it shows that there are 3 weight classes rather than 7. Here is a link to the site.

The problem with the website is that it's not accurate on the stat distributions that each character uses. Because characters from the same weight class don't necessarily use the exact same stats in this game, people need to be aware of that. This is why this article is splitting the weight classes. Inside Drifting Changes

A recent video made by GameXplain has revealed that certain bike bodies have an inside drift feature, but it's not entirely like the inside drifting from Mario Kart Wii. So far, it's been confirmed that the Sport Bike has this inside drift feature, but not the Standard Bike. RedYoshiMK7Signature.png M&SG (talk) 18:26, 8 May 2014 (EDT)

I think the Varmint and "Broad Bean" are also outside drift because you can see how they drift in Trailers and Gameplay footage. And the Jet Bike should be inside drift. Mic (talk)

Lots of the music has been re-done (Listening to Mario Circuit, Sunshine Airport, and Electrodrome, I noticed some of the instruments have changed. A saxophone has been added onMario Circuit, parts of Sunshine Airport's theme now have more violin, and the synthesizer in Electrodrome is far heavier.) This proves that the decision to change most of the music to orchestrated was somewhat late on in development, just before the N64 Rainbow Road trailer. (Although speculation, and shouldn't be added, I think this might be why Cheep-Cheep Beach, DK Jungle, and Grumble Volcano got left behind, due to the change being late on.) Unlocking Criteria

Found this info on the Mario Kart forums:

Apparently, character unlocks are random, I'm not sure whether you can play a already beaten Grand Prix and unlock another character or if the Mii is unlocked randomly as well.

Unlockable characters can appear as CPU's even if you didnt unlock them yetLuigi in Mario Kart 8Billy-Luigi Time!Baby Luigi in Mario Kart 8 08:27, 12 May 2014 (EDT)

Hmm, I didn't know that, but what I'm saying is that the "Unlocking criteria" table isn't needed since characters are randomly unlocked. As one user said: you could unlock Lemmy at 50cc Mushroom Cup while another person unlocks Lemmy at 150cc Star Cup and etc. You might be able to have the full character roster completed before even starting 150cc. SuperPizzaLuigi (talk) 08:50, 12 May 2014 (EDT)
Perhaps instead of jumping to the conclusion that characters are unlocked at random, we wait until we can officially see cause I doubt there will be a random unlocking criteria. I am pretty sure that unlocks will not be random because the additions to the roster will be random and then things can get awkward like unlocking Pink Gold Peach before Metal Mario. Toadbrigade 5
Alright, I'm not so much saying it's for sure, but he did say that they are random in the video (people who speak German confirmed it). Are all the Karts actually karts?

I having trouble believing that ninetendo would confirm so many karts and not many ATVs. I think that maybe a few of these karts might be ATVs, but we don't know it... I am checking videos to see if I can find one of the female racers in the bike suit on a kart but I am exspecially suspicious of the BiddyBuggy, since Buggie where the original name of the ATVs. I think they are classified as karts in the article because it has been stated so, or perhaps if not, because they look more like karts. The "buggy" in Biddybuggy might just be part of the name. -'Shroom64: The Mushroomeditor
ATVs have a special sign next to the name in the customization screen and you can see in videos that only the Standart ATV, the Teddy Buggy and also the Wild Wiggler have that special logo. I think that's also the reason why Nintendo didn't confirmed them in the december direct where the Standart ATV was first seen in a trailer, because they had no ideas for ATV-styled vehicles. Recently, a german YouTuber released the first part of his Let's Play and you can see that he didn't play the game before because he didn't beat any cup in the game. Weight Class names and Trivia

Hi, I think we need put the cruiser, super light, feather, super heavy etc. back in it. Because now they will think that for example Waluigi weighs the exact same as wario. In the Mario Kart 7 page they don't have all the same weight because there is feather, light, medium, cruiser and heavy. And on the official site it's just stated how large they are. [8]Luigi in Mario Kart 8Billy-Luigi Time!Baby Luigi in Mario Kart 8 03:03, 17 May 2014 (EDT)

This is just my opinion but I think the weight classes of the characters should be diffirent. I've made this but it got deleted several times. user:Billy-Luigi/work

Proposer: Billy-Luigi (talk)
Deadline: June 1, 2014, 23:59 GMT

  1. Billy-Luigi (talk) It's more fun to read it and then you can see who's in what weight class before watching the table under it.
  2. Ninelevendo (talk) Having three classes of "Light" etc. doesn't make sense, even if the names aren't official. At least change it to "Light-Light", "Light-Medium", etc.
  3. Koopakoolklub (talk) Per Ninelevendo.

  1. Tails777 (talk) It's been changed cause the official website lists Light, Medium and Heavy. Feather, Super Light, Cruiser and Super Heavy aren't confirmed names. It should stay like this and if said names are confirmed, we can change it.
  2. Baby Luigi (talk) We don't use these names not because they're less accurate or anything, but they're explicitly unofficial by Nintendo, as in here. Those terms are coined by unprofessional members of a random Mario Kart centric forum; why should those names get priority over the ones Nintendo has? The terms are nearly exactly alike to those kart names we gave in the Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart 7 pages that were deleted because the names were also unofficial. As I said in my revision, "This weight class nomenclature is unofficial; it's not listed in the official website. It's much better to organize the latter table than use unofficial conjecture names". By using this method, not only will we keep the official names but we also acknowledge the existence of such characters specific stats. This is the method I entirely prefer since it avoids conjecture names altogether while keeping the character specific stats in check.
  3. MKguy7 (talk) Per Baby Luigi.
  4. 'Shroom64 (talk) Per Baby Luigi and Tails777.
  5. Toadbrigade5 (talk) Seven weight classes is far too much. Not even Mario Kart 7 went that far
  6. Yoshi876 (talk) Per Baby Luigi.
  7. Icemario (talk) Per Baby Luigi.
  8. Whybee (talk) Per Baby Luigi.
  9. Siwel619 (talk) Per Baby Luigi. In the direct, they said Baby Rosalina was a lightweight, not a featherweight.
  10. Marshal Dan Troop (talk) Per Baby Luigi
  11. Mario4Ever (talk) Per all.
  12. Burb (talk) Per BabyLuigi. The word of Nintendo should be taken above that of a fan-operated message board.
  13. Mario (talk) peor baybyw bodlguigi
  14. Stonehill (talk) Per Baby Luigi. It's not confirmed yet, so why add it???
  15. JF (talk) They're unofficial names, and not very clear ones at that.

I made a new table we can add in here. One question though; is it possible to merge the cells so that "light" goes for two cells, et cetera? Artwork of Baby Luigi from Mario Kart Wii (also used in Mario Super Sluggers and Mario Kart Tour)BabyLuigi64Corrin's official artwork from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U

@Triple M. It does matter if it's fanmade or not, we don't cover fanmade material here. Yoshi876 (talk)

With my new table the issue of two lights, two mediums and three larges should be fixed. Is it good? Artwork of Baby Luigi from Mario Kart Wii (also used in Mario Super Sluggers and Mario Kart Tour)BabyLuigi64Corrin's official artwork from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U

@Princess Rosaluma: That's why I created the new table (link above) to resolve the issue of that kind of confusion; I just have to figure out how to make sure there's one cell for "heavy" but still making it cover all three groups. If I can figure that out the issue's fixed. Artwork of Baby Luigi from Mario Kart Wii (also used in Mario Super Sluggers and Mario Kart Tour)BabyLuigi64Corrin's official artwork from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U

But if that table wasn't there and you would look above it, the section with the default characters and unlockable ones, the you would propably think that for example Toad has the same stats as Baby Mario because now its stated that they are both light. Thats why I think its a better Idea to put frathr in it too. Princess Rosaluma (talk)

I removed them. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 00:28, 19 May 2014 (EDT)

Ok, since many people oppose, why not just remove weight classes from that table anyway? Why do they have to be there if it's already clear that some characters in the same weight class have different stat boosts? It states what weight class each character is in the sections directly above and below. Bowser Jr., in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam.Triple K, Skye 16:43, 18 May 2014 (EDT)

We should at put "Light-1" or "Light-Light" to make it make more sense. - Ninelevendo's Sig Image 17:39, 18 May 2014 (EDT)
Which exactly why using conjectural names is a problem. The minute I saw stuff like this and this I knew it was a terrible decision because this random user (no offense!) who named it "Fat" isn't any less credible than a more experienced user who named it "Cruiser" and "Mid-Heavy". Edit wars over these names are stupid in nearly all ways possible and if we continue to use conjectural names like this we will continue to have meaningless edit wars over it. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 00:35, 19 May 2014 (EDT)
I second Triple K's suggestion. We should just remove the weight class names from the table. The background colors and the fact that the weight class names are listed just above it are good enough, no need to re-iterate it. - User:Burb
Agreed. I removed the names from the table. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 13:00, 19 May 2014 (EDT)

Hey guys, I figured out the problem with my table and now it's fixed. If you don't want to scroll up for one second, the link is here. My thoughts are it's completely unnecessary to put "Cruiser", etc. when Nintendo hasn't confirmed that name, which is what every opposing person seems to agree on. Looks good. The only problem is the cell color for the weight classes but I know how to fix it (I even left a message on your talk page saying how to fix it).BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 19:00, 19 May 2014 (EDT)
If we're going to go to the length if TPP, why not just remove the names altogether? The colours can stay and such, but shouldn't we just remove it altogether, considering the confusion some readers may have? Or do you'all just think we keep it like it is now? - Ninelevendo's Sig Image 02:49, 25 May 2014 (EDT)
I don't think it's confusing. To me, it looks like readers could tell that "Oh, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Baby Peach, Baby Daisy, Baby Rosalina, Lemmy, and a light Mii are all in the "light" group in weight class, but they have different stats from Toad, Koopa, Shy Guy, Lakitu, Toadette, Larry and Wendy. They have different stat boosts even though they're all light."
I think my table is the best way to go because it still makes it clear who's light, medium and heavy without the use of fan-created names but still splits the weight classes into respective groups. Artwork of Baby Luigi from Mario Kart Wii (also used in Mario Super Sluggers and Mario Kart Tour)BabyLuigi64Corrin's official artwork from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U
Just a slight suggestion then, should you make the heavier lightweights have a darker blue, same going with the other weight classes? - Ninelevendo's Sig Image 07:42, 26 May 2014 (EDT)

I still don't think the weight classes need to be on the table! Can someone tell me why they think it should be? I mean, the classes for characters are already on the sections above and below. It just seems redundant. Bowser Jr., in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam.Triple K, Skye 19:48, 27 May 2014 (EDT)

That is true, but:
The above section labels the characters with the weight classes, more in the char. select screen's order.
The section below doesn't use the weight class names but actually labels the size of the body frame, using instead the names for (technically) Mario Kart Wii's size classes. Artwork of Baby Luigi from Mario Kart Wii (also used in Mario Super Sluggers and Mario Kart Tour)BabyLuigi64Corrin's official artwork from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U
To add on to that, the above list is a character list, not a weight class list, so it's not organized by weight class, but, like I said above, in the order used in the character select screen. (Minus the fact that starters and unlockables are separate.) Wait, I'm confused. What are we voting on? HammerbrosPMSS.png JF (contribs) Hammerbroemblem.png

Triple Bananas are NOT Boomerangs are NOT (At least in my ~200 races leading almost every race start to finish, I have had none)

The 1 button drifts on the Wii Wheel as well as the B button (as per testing it myself and the control screen on pause). I'd change it but I'm horrid at tables. Peanutjon (talk) 15:22, 2 June 2014 (EDT)

The Comet does not change colors depending on character. It is always red. should i change it? User:YoshiandDaisyrock77

We are now the top Google result for "Mario Kart 8 Stats". Shouldn't we include the hidden ones in our table?

There are a list of hidden stats in the game that aren't included on this page yet, but do influence the karts/drivers on various different types of terrain.

Here's a link for more information. I would edit it in myself but I don't know how.

That table has some major flaws that really question if it's trustworthy. For one thing, not all stat values are divisible by 0.25, and the heavyweights are supposed to have weaker handling; this would have to mean that their stat totals are actually lower than the lighter characters. Likewise, the Monster and Hot Monster have mistakes with their stats, as they have a -0.5/6 acceleration boost, and a +0.5/6 weight boost. Item Order

Is it really necessary? We don't have item order on any other Mario Kart game article. -- 16:58, 2 June 2014 (EDT)

No it's not. I'd like to delete it. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 19:36, 2 June 2014 (EDT)
I also think the information is completely false, considering many gameplay videos I've seen on YouTube have people getting Triple Mushrooms in second and third. MarioComix (talk) 20:43, 2 June 2014 (EDT)

I've seen some people in second get stars. As far as the Lightning Bolt is concerned, I'm pretty sure it's impossible to get it in first. That's all for now. --AeroBlaze777 (talk) 18:51, 2 June 2014 (EDT)
