Poll Selection Page

reorganize 7-0
I looked at the Poll selection page, and I have to admit something: It is a disaster. So here is what I am proposing: We clean it up. To get more into detail:

 • We have it split into multiple pages with 25 suggested polls on each page (In example, we have MarioWiki:Poll selection/Page1, MarioWiki:Poll selection/Page2, and so forth. We can link them together with a table like on the Proposals Archive, for example.
 • No signatures. I know this was already a rule, but many users either A) Get around the rules by putting the images as they are in their signature and then putting the allowed coding. B) Flat out ignore the rule and post a signature. After a while, when users start doing this, it becomes out of hand to deal with the problem. All in all, what I am saying here is: You are only allowed to sign with User Name Here or Whatever.
 • Other laws of organization: Basically, if/when this proposal passes, we enforce these rules on a regular basis, and if it is necessary, make rules to adapt to new situations. This is obvious, but it did not seem to work on the page.

If this is passed, and it works, we can make suggesting and voting on new polls easier, quicker, and more efficient. Also, this plan can reduce loading time for the pages.

Reorganize Poll Selection Page

 1. Super Mario Bros. (talk) Per my reasoning above and Timmy Tim's vote below.
 2. Timmy Tim (talk) It's falling apart and needs mending. Deleting repeat polls and one with more opposers than supporters will also have to be done.
 3. Paper Yoshi (talk) - Agreed. I've been wanting to do that by posting messages on the Poll Selection talk page and asking if I actually could do it, but a proposal definitively is the best way to enforce these rules and make that "disaster" a good page. If you need help with it, I'm up to the job. (I don't know if that expression exists, but w/e :P)
 4. Zafum (talk) - Of course, this will make it even more difficult to delete polls that are opposed or non-mario-related. After this proposal passes, hopefully I will be able to find a way to get around this.
 5. Coincollector (talk) - Aye per Super Mario Bros. It takes too long to load the polls page; its content is too large.
 6. Zero777 (talk) I am Zero! I sort of like and dislike (50/50) the idea of splitting the poll selection page into several pages. The no signature rule doesn't need to be enforced, nobody use signatures in the new polls. Zero signing out.

Leave It the Way It Is (Messy and Destroyed)

Comments

Paper Yoshi, I'm sorry to say I can't have your help in reorganizing the page right now, but in helping to observe the rules and help keeping it cleaned after I finish reorganizing it will help me a whole lot, as we might as well not do the proposal if the page is going to get messed up again. So, once again, to help me, all you need to do is keep the page clean once I'm finished. Thank you for your wanting to help me though. Super Mario Bros. (talk)

Zafum (talk) - How are you going to be able to get rid of the signatures that cover most of the polls already? I'm sure your not going to delete all those polls?

No, I'm not deleting polls based on signatures, the signatures in question can easily be changed to acceptable forms of signing. The only polls that are going to be deleted are the ones with two more opposes than supporters. For a more in depth version of my plan, check my other comment below. Super Mario Bros. (talk)
Well, here is my plan. First, I am going to, as Timmy Tim suggested, delete the polls that have two more opposes than supporters. Then, I am going to take the remaining ones and put them on separate pages, each page holding a maximum of 25 polls, and they will be linked to each other by a table (similar to the Proposals Archive pages). After that, I am going to change the signatures to User Name Here coding, therefore completing my plan and reorganizing the Polls Page. The pages, however, need to be maintained and kept organized. This should reduce loading time and make the Poll Selection page(s) more presentable, among other benefits that are gained from this project. Super Mario Bros. (talk)
Zafum (talk) - It's not really a question of how easy it is to change the signatures, but how long it will take. But if you have the time to change every signature on the poll page, then go ahead. ps. I was the one that made the rule to delete polls with 2 more opposers than supporters
If it passes, I should be finished organizing the day it meets deadline. Super Mario Bros. (talk)

Enforce No-Signature Policy

add new rules 3-0
I feel that the "No-Signature Policy" on many of the pages around the wiki have been utterly violated. Many of the users like to use the "letter of the law" technique as opposed to the "spirit of the law", which, in other scenarios, is okay, but is not good to this policy. Due to many pages that feature the "No-Signature Policy" having limited space, they cannot touch upon the many ideas that were originally expressed when this "policy" went into enactment. As of such, as I stated earlier, many users dodge the rules (see the second bullet in my above proposal about the Poll Selection page). As of such, I would like to create one page that has detailed rules on the subject, and that could be linked to pages that share these many ideas. The page, if created, would most likely be titled MarioWiki:No-Signature Policy. A rough draft of my proposed page can be located here.

Make the New Page

 1. Super Mario Bros. (talk) Remember, this proposal was not made to prevent this from happening, it was made to stop what is currently going on and prevent it from happening again in the future.
 2. Cobold (talk) - We can use a page like that to explain why we need to enforce the use of the user-Template instead of personalized signatures.
 3. Walkazo (talk) - Sounds good. Per all.

Leave It the Way It Is

Comments

On what pages exactly has this rule been violated? What pages are under this rule, anyway? - Cobold (talk) 17:36, 29 June 2009 (EDT)

Technically, the rule has been violated on the featured images page as well as the poll selection page, which say that no signatures are allowed. Most times, signatures are frowned upon because of the images or size, that they ruin counting and slow computers down, among others. Users, instead, post the image and then allowed coding. They basically dodge the rules, so they are technically not breaking them in the way that they are stated, but they are skipping around the original intents that the rules stated were based on. Which is why I proposed this, to make a policy that is more in depth and that can be linked to on these pages. Super Mario Bros. (talk)

I made changes on the page that is linked to. Walkazo gave me some great suggestions, and I incorporated them into the rules list. Super Mario Bros. (talk)

More changes have been made. Credit goes to Walkazo for the changes, she is really helping me with the ideas for the page. Super Mario Bros. (talk)

I find it ridiculous and annoying that almost all proposals these days are about signature rules. Dom (talk)

I know, I hate making them just as much, but when we have users that dodge rules, it has to be done. Plus, this should be the last proposal about signatures (other problems about the signatures can be dealt with by a minor proposal, per say, on the discussion of a page that needs to deal with signature problems). Super Mario Bros. (talk)

Article censorship

no censoring 12-0
I want to settle this once and for all. Do we want to censor the Bob Hoskins article or not?

Proposer: Clear Discoherency (talk)
Deadline: 11 July 2009, 20:00

Don't censor it

 1. Clear Discoherency (talk) We are a wiki dedicated to using full information on Mario, I wouldn't say to censor it
 2. Walkazo (talk) - This has been settled once and for all - on many occasions! This is an encyclopedia: our mandate is to communicate as many facts about Mario as we can, and that includes profane quotations. We do not censor anything. Fortunately, in the case of Bob Hoskins, there is a way to communicate his negative attitude towards the Super Mario Bros. film without including the f-word, and we decided to go with option a while ago to avoid this reoccurring nightmare of a debate.
 3. KPH2293 (talk)—An encyclopedia's goal is to report accurate information. We are under no obligation to censor facts just because people could potentially be offended by a simple word. It is the parent's responsibility to teach their children right and wrong, not ours. Our only goal is to report facts relating to the Mario series.
 4. Super Mario Bros. (talk) I guess every body else is right.
 5. Timmy Tim (talk) Per all. Why not put up a warning template or something like that?
 6. Zero777 (talk) I am Zero! A warning template will be a better idea. But I agree with this proposal, first of all SMW is a free encyclopedia that gives information on anything Mario[-related], second we are trying to make Mariowiki as close as possible to Wikipedia with alternations on this webpage, I said that because, in Wikipedia, I don't have an account there but I can still go to an article about a vag***, te*******, se*, and pe*** with pictures and detail and a movie article called Fu** without them being cencored, and last of all on a side-note, try to make your proposal more convinsing. Zero signing out.
 7. SpriteYoshi (talk)Per All
 8. Marioguy1 (talk)Per Zero
 9. Bloc Partier (talk) - Though on the original proposal I was for censoring it, now I just don't see the point. Whatever.
 10. Ghost Jam (talk) As I have stated in the past, a wiki is an encyclopedia and encyclopedias do not censor information.
 11. Time Q (talk): Per all. I'm glad to see so many people are against censoring an encyclopedia. Nowhere do we claim that this is a kid-friendly wiki, in fact this is "a collaborative knowledge-base about everything in the Marioverse" (see here), and censoring conflicts with this objective.
 12. Yoshario (talk) Per all.

Censor it

Comments

Clear Discoherency (talk) I think this younger person stuff is bullcrap because if we all know what a swear is then how is exposing us to a swear gonna hurt us? Explain that smb.

Well, the young shouldn't have to be subject to your bullcrap, ok? we are supposed to be an age-friendly wiki. Movies and games themselves are rated PG-13 and T for Teens when swear words are present, and we are supposed to be a G-rated or E for Everyone wiki. So why do you want your bullshat so bad, huh? Super Mario Bros. (talk)

I wouldn't think it would by true to the quote by changing quotes however. Why would anyone care about a quote with the f-word in it? Yknow I used to not swear at all but when I realized it was pointless to not swear I swear all the time now.Clear Discoherency (talk)

Yes, that may be the case for you, but others try not to or don't like to. I myself do not like to curse. I find it vulgar and unnecessary. If we censor it, readers still understand that a curse word is being said, so what is the loss? Super Mario Bros. (talk)

This whole edit war is pointless anyway. Its only going on because Max2 acted immature about a little swearClear Discoherency (talk)

Enough of the flamey remarks, already. We have no mandate to be a "kid-friendly" Wiki, all we are obligated to do is tell the truth. Every time someone goes on the Internet, they run the risk of running into profanity, or worse, and heck, you take the same exact risk everything you go outside. It's not our responsibility to shield little kids from words they are gonna learn sooner or later, and if it interferes with our abilities to communicate all the Mario-centric information at our disposal, we shouldn't even be trying. In the case of Bob Hoskins we can preserve most of that quote without profanity; it was a compromise many agreed on, and it still stands. - Walkazo (talk)

And to you, Walkazo, a proposal has been made, I'm not going to be shut up. I find it ridiculous that this is considered flaming, or that you consider this flaming, as I am stating my point of view. Super Mario Bros. (talk)

I'm done arguing and wasting my breath about this even though it was pointless in the first place. Go ahead and go eat each other if you want I'm setting this one out. Clear Discoherency (talk)

Yeah, ok. Super Mario Bros. (talk)

In response to SMB's earlier comment: A) I said "flamey", not "flaming". B) I wasn't talking about the proposal itself, I was talking about the comments: "So why do you want your bullsh*t so bad, huh?" "Well, the young shouldn't have to be subject to your bullcrap, ok?" "Explain that smb." - that's all egging each-other on, which is "flamey" - you're both rearing for a fight, and that's not acceptable, so just cool your jets. - Walkazo (talk)

In response to Walkazo: Ok. Directed towards CD: Please delete this proposal. If the edit war is pointless, please just delete it. You should have dealt with Max2 yourself or had another user, perhaps sysop or bureaucrat, deal with him. Super Mario Bros. (talk)

Since it's your proposal, you have to delete it. - Walkazo (talk)

It is not mine, CD created it. Super Mario Bros. (talk)

True... Sorry, I was just commenting based on the fact CD commented first and usually it's someone besides the Proposer who comments first... Plus it's late and I'm tired... - Walkazo (talk)
It's ok. i'm tired too. Ah forget it. I'm just going to remove my vote. i will probably wake up in the morning and realize that everybody else was right. Anywho, sorry for any flaming I could have almost started. Super Mario Bros. (talk)

Just to be clear, is this only for Bob Hoskins? Because Princess_Toadstool_for_President has the word "fuck" in it, and it'd be nice to have it set in stone somewhere what happens when this inevitably comes up again. Twentytwofiftyseven (talk)

Per twenty of two seven, walka please look at his points then tell me if we shouldn't have the word "fuck" in the Bob Hoskins article.--Clear Discoherency 01:03, 5 July 2009 (EDT)

The deadline is up now anyway too bad we havn't reached a verdict besides walka's answerClear Discoherency (talk)

That's because the deadline was off. Proposals are supposed to be up for exactly one week. This hasn't even lasted a day. Anyway, it's been fixed. —KPH2293 (talk)

Well, it's 4-0 against censorship, which is a pretty clear verdict. But, if it only applies to Bob Hoskins, then that's not so much of an accomplishment of policy making. Now, I'm not sure why exactly there would be a need for a proposal so specific, but that's what the text seems to imply. After all, we can't really say "no lol it meant this," and expect it not to raise issues. Or, at least, I see it that way. Twentytwofiftyseven (talk) 01:24, 5 July 2009 (EDT)

"walka" is me, right? Pertaining to 2257's example, "jävla" has to be included in order to properly explain Bowser's "Din jäv-" quotation, and if we have the Swedish swear, why not the English equivalent? Still, like the Bob Hoskins quote, I suppose it would be possible to just leave the whole Trivia point as this, and still cover all the bases:

In the Swedish dub, when Bowser gets smacked by the kid, he says "Din jäv-", but stops himself, as the word he was about to utter is a profanity. This can be compared to a truncated "F-" exclamation in English.

Personally, I think the whole "jävla" exposition is interesting, but it's not essential, so I can see why removing it (and the full Bob Hoskins quote) is a reasonable compromise in the face of these sort of heated debate. "Fuck" is simply not worth the trouble. - Walkazo (talk)

My point is that this might will come up again in the future, so it would be nice to have an actual policy about it. Rather than arguing about it later, we could get it over with and use this as a policy for when censorship debates rise up again. And there's actually other pages with profanity, that was just an example. Twentytwofiftyseven (talk) 02:02, 5 July 2009 (EDT)
We need a lot more official policies around here... I think the standing unofficial policy on profanity is that "We're an encyclopedia, and as such, we do not censor our articles. However, users are asked to use their discretion when dealing with profanity on the Wiki mainspace." We could easily add some sort of rule along those lines to a policy page somewhere, maybe with links to any text previously written about flaming and vandalism, so that people will know the difference between using curse words academically and using them in an unacceptable, vulgar manner. - Walkazo (talk)

YourBuddyBill (talk)Couldnt we just replace the word with F*** or sonething along those lines? This has been blown out of proportion.

Marioguy1 (talk) - Why don't we just create a censored version and a non-censored version? This way, we can warn users that the non-censored one is bad for them!

Update One After Another

do not update one after another 4-8
I propose that everything on the main page like featured article, featured image, poll, and did you know sections should all be updated between one hour to one day after another, it doesn't really matter in what order they should be in, just as long as they are updated, and there time limit should be one week of staying in the main page, Mario news and proposal section should be the only exceptions. I said this because one time the "did you know" section, it had the same three trivias stayed there for about three months and like six months ago on the poll section it didn't work on some computers. The main page is sometimes confusing to keep track of even if your'e a user or just a visitor to the site, so that is why I came up with this idea.

Oppose

 1. Super Mario Bros. (talk) Per my first 2 comments below.
 2. Marioguy1 (talk) OK, I think it should be more like, the quote updates every hour, the image every day and the article every week.
 3. Walkazo (talk) - Just be glad they get turned over at all. The Wiki is very high-maintenance, and the last thing the few people who have enough initiative to update these features need is an arbitrary schedule to try and follow.
 4. Castle Toad (talk) Per Walkazo
 5. SpriteYoshi (talk) per Walkazo
 6. Time Q (talk): Per Walkazo. Also, I like the way the main page is updated now. I do agree with you (Zero777), though, that the Did You Know section should be updated more often. But obviously there just aren't any users wo would like to do that, and you can't force someone to do it.
 7. P. Trainer (talk) Per Walkazo
 8. Coincollector (talk) - Per all. We don't have more of 1000 featured articles in the wiki as to show them all every day (though we're happy we have a nice number of FAs). However, that's true the "Did you know...?" section should need a scheduled update.

Comment

Not to be rude, but that would screw up the Featured Article and/or Featured Images schedule, each one is only supposed to be up on the Main Page for a week, it's not that simple, even though it seems minor, this would require a lot of work during a day. Super Mario Bros. (talk) 18:47, 6 July 2009 (EDT)

Plus, we don't control the Quote of the Day, it is randomly selected by a program. I agree with you on the subject of the "Did You Know" section, that could use work. Super Mario Bros. (talk) 18:52, 6 July 2009 (EDT)
What's funny is that I make 1 proposal about the Poll Selection page, and we get a swarm of them after it passes. Super Mario Bros. (talk) 19:02, 6 July 2009 (EDT)

No Signature Policy on FA Pages

apply no signature policy to fa pages 7-0
OK, I'm pretty nervous, this is my first proposal and I have no idea how to do it. I've asked Walkazo and I think she explained it well so bear with me. I think that the proposals for featured articles and proposals to unfeature articles are very good and put power even in the hands of the users and for this, I commend whoever helped make it. The only problem with this system (according to me) is the fact that those pages do not observe the no-signature policy. When I look at the nomination for Luigi, I see a giant mess of names and pictures which really distracts me from the point of the page. If we could just add the rule that the page follows the no-signature policy then we could follow some of the most important parts of the wiki, without getting a headache. I know this may inconvenience several users but you can show your signature off on almost every single page on the wiki! Why does it have to be on an FA page.

The pages for Featured Image, Featured Poll and even this page follow that policy, so why shouldn't the Featured Article be like the Featured Image or the Featured Poll?

Thank you and I hope you consider my proposal carefully before voting.

 3. Twentytwofiftyseven (talk) Makes sense to me. Per all.
 4. Walkazo (talk) - Per Marioguy1. Seeing as all the other voting pages follow the No-Signature Policy, it seems like an oversight that it's taken until now to include the FA pages as well.

If this proposal passes successfully, please do not edit all the signatures on the existing FA nomination pages, because that would manipulate the date of the last edit, and this date is important (nominations that haven't been edited in a month are deleted). Time Q (talk)

Fine but what if we see a user edit the page, then can we take advantage of the situation and get rid of my headache forever? Marioguy1 (talk)

Yes, that would be fine. Time Q (talk)

More Than A Joke

do not allow fake "new messages" boxes 9-6
Over on Bulbapedia, they've recently created a rule that doesn't allow the fake "new messages" box template. And I think we should have that rule too. It was OK to start off with, but it's like that "Uranus" joke- IT'S GETTING OLD, VERY ANNOYING AND NOT EVEN REMOTELY FUNNY! Almost every User Page I go on, I see a fake "New messages" box that gets me excited, but then I put my cursor over it and it says it leads to a random page, or the "Special: Mytalk" page. They are absolutely meaningless, and it makes our Wiki look like a load of pranksters. To cut a long story short, it makes us look bad, and if somebody was thinking of joining, they might be misled into thinking that they'll just get teased a lot. So, let's get rid of those templates on User Pages!

 4. Super Mario Bros. (talk) You know what? I now agree. This is a joke, it was funny at first, but now it's just gotten annoying. Some of us have slower older computers as it is, why should we have to be subject to unnecessary slow loading time just because another user thought it would be funny? It also sparks too much false hope into us when we go ahead and see that it was fake. Perhaps we should allow boxes that do not have misleading text.
 5. Leirin (talk) Per all; it isn't even funny. While I have never clicked a link on one of these fake 'new messages' boxes, it is very easy to accidentally click it out of excitement. And it's very easy to link it to a page or website that is innapropriate, and that user who clicked the link out of misfortune would be forced to see it. And that's just NOT RIGHT!
 6. Baby Mario Bloops (talk) I seriously hate them. I didn't care for them until I clicked on one. It sucks when your expecting a message and it shows one, and leads to that one youtube singer. Who would do this, it's torture!
 7. Timmy Tim (talk) per all, I'm sick of them.
 8. Ben117 (talk) I've been there before, and I don't want that to happen to other people. Per all.
 9. Dom (talk) Concise version: It's troublesome and not even funny, thus failing the definition of 'joke'. And per Leirin, as it could link to a page that, while not inappropriate, may cause trouble for that user in some way.

Anyhow, I don't want to enter into the same predicament that they were in.

Nobody is forced to visit other user's pages. Our goal is not to talk to each other and have a funny user page, but to write articles. It's fine having your own user space and putting a lot of cool stuff on your page and all, but if you say you retired because of some jokes on user sites, you didn't take the actual goal of the wiki very serious. - Cobold (talk)

It's been its own article before. Then, Knife redirected it with the comment: "ummm.. it is Brawl's adventure mode, and we decided to keep modes in the game articles, as they retract a lot of content from it. (also, read the name under Subspace Emissary, it does indeed say adven" --Yoshario (talk)

I'm not sure but won't this affect Brawl's FA status? Betaman (talk)

Is Benji's oppose vote even legal? I'm sorry Benji, I think your vote should be removed. There is no real reason for it. Super Mario Bros. (talk) 22:49, 16 July 2009 (EDT)
Betaman: This cannot affect the FA status of brawl unless a user proposes to unfeature it, any such user should instead vote against it here so that we don't have to go through the long process of voting there. I might even ask an admin to delete that request for unfeaturing if it is in the week after this proposal passes due to ignoring the proposal and trying to make us go through a giant process! Upcoming Tournaments

add upcoming tournaments to main page 12-0
The wiki has suffered greatly when it comes to user tournaments, either they are cancelled due to inactive leadership or not enough participants. The latter is likely because many users have no idea a Tourney's going on! I propose something like this under "help us Maintain This Page":

Amend No-Signature Policy

do not allow s.w.a.s 7-0
Ok, I guess I'll be the first to propose to amend the No-Signature Policy. I have looked around and have already seen an incident happen when it came across signing: A particular system of signing that is often referred to as Signing Without a Signature (S.W.A.S.). I would like to propose the question: For pages that follow the No-Signature policy, do we allow "S.W.A.S.", or do we not allow it?

Proposer: Super Mario Bros. (talk)
Deadline: July 23, 2009, 17:00

Allow S.W.A.S.

Don't Allow S.W.A.S.

 1. Ben117 (talk) I don't think we should allow it for the No-sig policy because it is easier to access a user's page and talk page if they provide links as opposed to just words.
 2. Marioguy1 (talk) - Point 1: Simply on four pages of the wiki, FI, FA, PipeProjects and here, you are supposed to sign with a link, four pages. On those four pages, JUST THOSE FOUR, could we please have links to user pages (and from that extent, talk pages). It is four pages, can users not even sacrifice those four pages? Point 2: Doing this will improve how the page looks, having some users sign like this and some like this doesn't look good to me and I'm sure none of you like it either. If we did this, more users would look at the page and see the real info on the page instead of the ugly looks. Point 3: It will allow us to distinguish between votes, just look for the blue writing and there's the end of the vote. More than once, I've passed on to another vote thinking that it was the same vote because it had no blue link at the end of it. The blue links help determine where the end of a vote is by changing the color of the text. Users will (not should, will) learn that when you see blue writing, it means link!
 3. Time Q (talk): Since signing in the XYZ format will be still allowed if this proposal passes, I think I can support the elimination of "S.W.A.S." (i.e., simple text without a link to the author's user page). Links are always helpful, so it's a good idea IMO to "force" users to put them. Sorry for calling this "ridiculous", I just didn't quite understand the proposal.
 4. Timmy Tim (talk) per Time Q.
 5. Yoshario (talk) - Sorry for supporting S.W.A.S., I didn't understand the proposal. Example would still be allowed, and links would help distinguish between votes, as Marioguy1 said, and they'd be helpful if you need to get their talkpage.
 6. Glitchman (talk) - Per Marioguy.
 7. Zero777 (talk) I am Zero! I agree with this idea so much. You literally took the words out of my mouth, this proposal can avoid confusion upon users and visitors. Zero signing out.

Comments

Once again, this is related to a particular incident, I am not inventing the idea for no reason. Also, I'm not voting just yet, I want to see the way most users vote. Super Mario Bros. (talk)

Marioguy, that was the incident I was referring to. LOL Super Mario Bros. (talk)
It was? OMG! Marioguy1 (talk)
Yeah. I used this page right here (what a small world we all live in). Super Mario Bros. (talk)

Marioguy1, please give a reason for your vote. Time Q (talk)

By the way, Time Q, I do not actually have an opinion on whether it should be allowed or not, I just want it added to the Policy so no more confusion goes on. Also, S.W.A.S., if I'm correct, uses no coding with no links. The policy already considers signing with Whatever a correct form of signing, perhaps I didn't quite understand the situation... Super Mario Bros. (talk) 18:32, 16 July 2009 (EDT)
I did give a reason, I yelled at a guy and then got yelled at, I don't like being yelled at! Marioguy1 (talk)
I don't believe not wanting to get yelled at is a valid reason to oppose the proposal. Yoshario (talk)

I don't get what's this proposal is about. Honestly. --Glowsquid 07:13, 17 July 2009 (EDT)

SpriteYoshi voted because of Marioguy1's invalid reasons. Should we remove both the votes? Yoshario (talk)
I don't know, do what you think is right. Super Mario Bros. (talk)
Is my vote O-K now?SpriteYoshi (talk)
@Yoshario: I didn't either, that's why I asked for it to be removed, I realized that I was wrong in letting my feelings take control of my vote changing it to the worse of the wiki. @Glowsquid: This proposal is proposing the users cannot sign like this and must sign like this. @SpriteYoshi: Pers are never not OK unless you are pering an invalid vote, which you are not. I hope I covered everything. Marioguy1 (talk)
Baby Mario Bloop, do you know what we are talking about? SMB is not proposing that we use signatures on pages, he is only proposing we use links. It will not mess up the page, it will turn the end of each vote blue; distinguishing between the votes. Marioguy1 (talk)
Might I mention that I am not proposing to specifically eliminate SWAS, I am proposing to amend the policy, whether to include SWAS or not. This doesn't mean that this would ban it from every page, rather, it would eliminate it from the pages that follow the policy. Super Mario Bros. (talk) 17:05, 19 July 2009 (EDT)
Also, Marioguy, might I point out that the No-Signature Policy is followed on more than three pages, another example being the PipeProject page. Super Mario Bros. (talk) 17:09, 19 July 2009 (EDT)

Sorry, I only knew about three. Anyways, I know we are referring only to those few pages; see my point 1 thing in my vote. Are you going to vote SMB? Marioguy1 (talk)

Not really, I understand both points of view, I can't make up my mind anyway. Super Mario Bros. (talk) 17:25, 19 July 2009 (EDT)

I don't think other users understand that I am trying to promote organization in articles by opposing this proposal. The blue or red writing marks the end of a vote, it's very simple and gives users an easy view of who made the vote; the one with the blue writing did it! If you can find any points to make no links, state them here and I will change my vote (other than server stress because blue writing is not going to crash your computer). Marioguy1 (talk)

You have a point. I will reconsider my vote tomorrow. Time Q (talk)
Thank you, now could you please remove the point about me in your vote? Marioguy1 (talk)

Yoshario, since you are referring to my vote and I removed it, please check if your vote still applies. Time Q (talk)

Marioguy: Might I mention, and delete this if I'm wrong, but he provided another reason with his vote as well. He just forgot to remove the per part of his vote. Super Mario Bros. (talk) 22:25, 20 July 2009 (EDT)

See my vote Marioguy1 (talk)
Ok, I see that. He provided another reason along with his vote. His vote is outdated, what he means is per Time Q's old reasoning. I don't think he would "per" something that opposes his views: All in all, I don't think that it qualifies moving his vote to the oppose section. Super Mario Bros. (talk) 22:37, 20 July 2009 (EDT)
Fine, I withdrew my proposal for removal but (there's always a but), if he does not update his vote by tomorrow, I will put back my proposal for removal (trust me, I have the whole thing saved) Marioguy1 (talk)
Okay, I understand. He should update his vote, that gives him enough time to change it. Super Mario Bros. (talk) 22:43, 20 July 2009 (EDT)

I'm not sure what SWAS is. Is it something like..... *insert random text here* Luigifreak out. (with no links to the userpage at all in the message.) Also will this remove the blurbs that some people put at the end of all there messages, but still sign at some point? Luigifreak (talk)

No. Super Mario Bros. (talk)

Ask A Sysop

no such section 1-8
Whenever someone has a question, the first person the ask is...a sysop! However, sometimes, the certain sysop isn't available. The wiki should have an "Ask A Sysop" section where people could post a question and a sysop would answer it. This would be much easier than the tedious process of going from talk page to talk page to post your question.

 1. Time Q (talk): We already have the FAQ talk page and the Main Page talk page, so we don't need another one that's basically serving the same purpose. The pages I mentioned also have the advantage that "regular" users can answer there as well. This is good because they might be faster than a sysop, and still know the right answer.
 2. Marioguy1 (talk) - Maybe a userbox (I don't get why you don't say an userbox) that says; this user is an experienced member of the Mariowiki. That userbox links to the Category of experienced users and you ask the active members of that category, but no page for sysops only; I know several users (Me, SMB, WarioLoaf, MeritC, Tucayo, M&SG and Arend) that know a lot of stuff and this category would deprecate them of the opportunity to spark a hope in the hearts of new users by answering their questions to receive that glowing feeling of self-accomplishment. I personally know that I helped WeegeeO and Doopliss Rocks out and I felt good about myself those two nights and I'm not a sysop, if we made this page; less users would come to me (and the aforementioned others) and give me that feeling.
 3. Super Mario Bros. (talk) Per all. :D
 4. Coincollector (talk) - Aye per Time Q, there is the FAQs page to reply some common doubts and the main page to tell somebody what's happening around the wiki. I think these two resources are enough, and, in my opinion, don't consider sysops as gods XP.
 5. Timmy Tim (talk) Per Marioguy1 (And Super Mario Bros.' comment below). I've helped YellowYoshi127, Baby Mario Bloops and Doopliss Rocks and felt good about it, and I'm not a Sysop either.
 6. Yoshario (talk) - Per Time Q. We have MarioWiki talk:FAQ and Talk:Main Page, there really isn't a need for other pages.
 7. Glitchman (talk) - Per everyone else. You can ask sysops things on their talk page, the FAQ page, the main page talk, forums, chatrooms, etc.
 8. Hyper Guy (talk) What if the Sysop doesn't want to awnser any questions? I think the job of a Sysop would be hard enough, but would be even harder if they had tons of questions piling up.

Comments

One suggestion, a minor one that won't change my vote: Perhaps we should include a list of sysops at the top of the page? Super Mario Bros. (talk) 16:21, 20 July 2009 (EDT)

In addition to what coincollector said, Mediawiki created the rank sysop to be users who are trusted with a few extra buttons, they did not intend for them to be the leaders if the wiki, no. They created Bureaucrats to be the leaders of the wiki and they still want other users to have just as much authority as sysops just less power! Marioguy1 (talk)

Split Missions From Galaxy Articles

no extra articles for galaxy missions 4-9
I think that we should split all of the Super Mario Galaxy missions from their respective galaxy levels. I have started a PipeProject that could help improve the stub articles that would be created, such as adding more in-depth explanations and descriptions about the mission, which planets are traveled to during the mission, creating more specific templates and adding them to the articles, adding/uploading images specific to that level, etc. We could make good articles out of these, but I need community permission before I start splitting a ton of information from the articles. An example of one of these proposed level pages can be found over here.

 4. Mario7727 (talk)I Am Mario7727 This Is A Very Good Idea. This Could Let Us Avoid Things We Don't Need In The Articles.

Oppose

 1. Toadster_04 (talk) I don't think this is necessary. The Galaxy articles are neat and easy to navigate. This would just make the Galaxy articles much smaller and closer to stubs themselves, as well as creating a lot more stubs. Not all missions would translate as well as the one you showed. What about Comet missions? They would either be extremely short or copies of other mission articles. As for your ideas to improve stubs, why not just do this to improve the sections that already exist? This proposal just seems like it would create a lot of work, with little or no gain for the wiki.
 2. Walkazo (talk) - While I hate the repetitive nature of the galaxy articles, most of these missions will be stubs, just like most of the individual level articles floating around for the 2-D platformers. I'd rather see all the levels merged into world articles, like the Super Mario Bros. 3 coverage. I'm sure the planet parts of the galaxy articles can be cut down to make the pages less elongated and more like the Super Mario 64 articles - compact and neat, as opposed to fragmented like the separated missions will most-likely turn out.
 3. SpriteYoshi (talk)Per Walkazo
 4. Super-Yoshi (talk) - Per Walkazo, if we would split the SMG missions, then we would have to split the SM64 and SMS missions as well.
 5. Randoman123456789 (talk) - Per all.
 6. Canama (talk) - Per all.
 7. Arend (talk) - Per all. Splitting levels from worlds are OK, but splitting missions from levels would be a bit... stupid. I mean, there are many missions, with a similar name. That's even more likely on Comet Missions (e.g. Purple Coin Omelet from Good Egg Galaxy and Luigi's Purple Coins from Toy Time Galaxy) or Secret missions. Also, splitting missions from Galaxy means we also must split missions from 64(DS) and Sunshine, which is actually the same old story.
 8. MC Hammer Bro. (talk) - Per S-Y and Arend. If we split from SMG then we'd have to do the same with SM64 and SMS.
 9. Yoshario (talk) - Per Walkazo

Ok. Super Mario Bros. (talk)
Howabouts we split them as needed, split some and not others. SMB, if you can hold this proposal in a tie until I get back I might be able to whip up a starting version (or you could give it a go) of all the other articles to prove that they are not going to be stubs. Marioguy1 (talk)
Splitting some but not others wouldn't work, as it would just seem inconsistent and sloppy. - Walkazo (talk)
I don't want to do that anyway, I want to split all of the levels and add the templates and images and etc. Super Mario Bros. (talk)

FAQ transformation

do not remake faq 6-9
OK, let's see, my second proposal, totally random section and the vote count is already 3-1. Anyways here is the proposal: I think the FAQ page is basically a large thing where users can read questions that they all ready know the answers to. On the FAQ talk page we have asking questions. I ask, why don't we put proposals on the Proposal talk page or FI noms on the FI talk page, why do we put it on the main page? I'll answer myself, because it's easier. Since it's easier, I propose we change the old FAQ into my new version (see here) so that users can actually ask their questions on the real Mariowikispace page!

Remake FAQ

 1. Marioguy1 (talk) - Yes, I moved it here to eliminate the problem
 2. Zero777 (talk) I am Zero! It will be a good idea with the correct set rules. And plus this will keep me busy from the poll selection page being discontinued for a little while, since the remake FAQ is sort of like the poll selection page, without an "oppose" section. You know how you have that "answer" area, well probably you can also put in a "Tip" or "Pointers" area just for users to give there extra info of what they usually do as a habit. Zero signing out.
 3. Super Mario Bros. (talk) Per all.
 4. Toadster_04 (talk) I very much like the example you showed. It is a much easier way to ask and answer questions than the previous FAQ.
 5. Lu-igi board (talk) it's a good page for teaching new editors how to do stuff. p.s thanks for including me in the example :P
 6. WeegeeO (talk) Love the idea of an easier FAQ.I Think it would make everything a little less complicated.

Don't Remake FAQ

 1. Yoshario (talk) -– I believe the FAQ is fine the way it is. Having a whole lot of answers to a question may be overwhelming to a new user.
 2. Time Q (talk): It's called "Frequently Asked Questions", and as such it should be a collection of, well, frequently asked questions (plus the answers). Turning it into a "Ask your questions" system defeats the purpose: Users wouldn't check first if there's already an answer to their question, they would ask it right away. Too much work for everyone.
 3. Walkazo (talk) - Per all. We vote on the main Proposal and FA pages because that's the point of those pages, whereas the FAQ page is, as Time Q said, an FAQ page, not a public Q&A - that's the talk page's job (just like the Proposal talk page is a Q&A about general Proposal stuff).
 4. Luigifreak (talk) Per all, and I find it pointless to have that new template as it is just like the talk page. There is no rule saying that there can't be multiple answers adding onto previous answers, so the multiple answers table will not encourage users to put multiple answers. In addition, there is usually only one answer per question, so the template will just take up space.
 5. SpriteYoshi (talk)Per Walkazo
 6. Glowsquid (talk) - Per Walkazo.
 7. Randoman123456789 (talk) - Per Walkazo.

Comments

I'm not sure I completely understand your proposal. If it passed, what would happen to the FAQ page we currently have? Where would we put the questions already answered on the page? Time Q (talk)

In the archives! That's how the archives would stop being a red link, then users could actually ask questions and other users could still get that glowing feeling of accomplishment by answering them. Now there is only one page to ask questions. Wait, do you think answered questions should go into the archive or just stay there? Marioguy1 (talk)
Zero: Tell you what, I'll open a little thing on User talk:Marioguy1/Mariowiki:FAQ for any user to tell me how they think it should look; I'll have the agreed-on version on the User page. Marioguy1 (talk)
Yoshario: I kind of agree with your logic but these are people we're talking about. I may not know much about people but I think one of their qualities is that they are not overwhelmed by more than one answer. If it were a cat or a dog I would understand but people are the most intelligent species on the planet (most of them anyways) and will not be overwhelmed by five or six answers. Marioguy1 (talk)
If we use this system, we may also have a lot of repeat questions, whereas if we use a FAQ page, they would read the FAQ first. @Zero777 When we removed the poll one of our goals was to get users editing in the mainspace, and I don't think creating a whole new FAQ system would work. @Marioguy1 They still might get overwhelmed by repeating tips and answers. --Yoshario (talk)
Yoshario: This is SMB, Marioguy 1 told me to handle all proposals-related stuff for him, including replying to questions. What I have to say on the matter is that perhaps we should make a rule not allowing repeat answers. Super Mario Bros. (talk)

Wow that's a high level of opposition! Anyhow, @Yoshario: The repeat tips and answers will be added in gradually so that users will not be overwhelmed, while I agree with SMB's logic, you could see the talk page of my example for another version of what the FAQ could look like that would eliminate your problems. @Time Q: Well then those user's questions would be referenced to the previous question or they could be asked again. What's the problem with that? @Walkazo: Thanks for a name! It could be called a Questions and Answers page instead of a Frequently Asked Questions page! Anyhow, why can't it be a Q&A page? The FAQ page is so empty that a Q&A should be used just to fill it up with information because information is a good thing in a wiki. @Luigifreak: Remind me again what template you are talking about? I think you think my example is a template! Anyways, multiple answers is not a problem. Neither is space. Marioguy1 (talk)

Marioguy: The template is the new FAQ you our proposing. I am saying, that generally, only ONE answer is put, so the table is unnecisary, as it's only purpose is for multiple votes, which it will not have. As for space, it's not a big deal, but the subheadings are unnecisary, as 1. The second section will never be used 2. there will be only one answer for the first section so why have them at all? I'm not saying it's a bad idea, I'ts just, If it a'int broke, don't fix it. Luigifreak (talk)

Marioguy: The FAQ page isn't "empty", it's concise, which is a good thing. Most people don't have the patience to read pages and pages of policies and rules, so having a comparatively short and straightforward FAQ page in place as a "how to" tutorial is a must. The whole "page" vs. "talk page" issue is a stupid reason to want to replace the FAQ page with something we already have. Why don't we just rename the FAQ's talk page as the "Q&A" page? (Like what we've done we did in the past to the Main Page's talk page, the "Community Portal".) Then all the question stuff is still together, nothing is removed, and the "stigma" there seems to be against talk pages gets to be quelled by the ritzy name. - Walkazo (talk)

I personally like that idea, it's more of a compromise than a change. But how do we rename the talk page? Do we move it to another page in general? Also, what ever happened to the link on the sidebar that went to the Community Portal? Super Mario Bros. (talk)
Good question. I can't remember why it was taken off the sidebar, I can't even find it in the sidebar's history. Time Q (talk)
We use PipePlaza as our "Community Portal". --Yoshario (talk)
Heh, guess I should get with the times, eh? Anyway, I don't remember exactly how the Main Talk was renamed way back when, but I know it's doable. - Walkazo (talk)
You add to the page. Twentytwofiftyseven (talk)

Remove Quote of the Day from the main page

remove 21-4
Quote of the Day uses a processor heavy combination of the <choose> and <DPL> tags that increases loading time significantly. In my tests, it took an average of 7 seconds longer to load the page with QOTD than without, but compare for yourself here and here. Other than those seven seconds, I don't see that it adds much to the page. It could be moved to a dedicated page, if people still want to use it.

BTW, I just tried loading both versions of the main page a few times. The one without the quote always took only 4 seconds. With the quote, there were durations ranging from 25 seconds to 1 minute and 35 seconds! That's a massive difference. Please keep that in mind when voting. Time Q (talk)

Both pages took ages to load for me, but the MarioWiki mainpage was a little bit faster (probably by the time it took me to click on the second link). Considering the wiki's infinite slowness, it doesn't make much of an impact. - Cobold (talk) 16:10, 31 July 2009 (EDT)
Well, i can say, for people who reaches the wiki via devices that are not Computers (such as the Wii, cellphones....), this is a great advantage step for joining the Wiki, when i try entering the Wiki through my Wii, it really takes long, (from 20 secs. to 2 minutes!) and without the Quote of the Day it loaded in just 7 seconds. Castle Toad (talk)
Writing articles without a keyboard on the Wii sounds unrealistic though. - Cobold (talk)
Actually, the Wii supports keyboards. I don't know if doing so allows you to view more than 2 lines of text, though. Twentytwofiftyseven (talk)
Hmm.... There's no difference for me writing from a Computer or from my Wii but while writing (opening the Keyboard screen, and yes, then, using a USB Keyboard), also, if you wanna see more than 2 lines in the screen just scrool up or down, but i think Wii Editing thing is out of topic tho, i used the Wii as my option, since i do most of my edits by using my Wii.Castle Toad (talk)

on a different note, if it is a quote of the day, it should not keep changing!!! Lu-igi board

well, i dont know where to vote, at one side, i always take my time to read the quote, but on the other hand, what will the people coming here for first time will think? that the wiki gets really slow? well, it gets, but thats not the point. Tucayo (talk)

First thing: you should be comparing a copy of the main page on a user subpage (with the quote on there) vs. the user subpage with no quote. Comparing it to the actual main page might not be fair because it is already getting so much more traffic than the user subpage. And secondly, when voting, keep in mind that guests (people who are not logged in--aka 99% of our visitors) see a cached version of the main page. A new quote is not generated for them every time they visit the main page because a static page is shown (which is why the quote is called quote of the day and not quote of the moment--because the same one is shown for a while before the cache is regenerated). That's all. --Porplemontage (talk) 21:34, 2 August 2009 (EDT)

I'd like to note that doing it this way, it still takes an average of five more seconds to load with QOTD than without. Twentytwofiftyseven (talk)
Just letting you know, i just made a test joining from a Laptop and a Wii.... As Twentytwofiftyseven says: It still takes more than 5 seconds with the Quote, also, while i joined from the Wii, i noticed a really great difference in time. Less than 10 seconds to load the main page. (With the QOTD, a minimal 20 seconds were needed, or a maximum of 5 minutes) Castle Toad (talk)
TO ALL OPPOSERS:Yes, I do agree, patience is a good quality to have, and many of you might have it, but some of our guests might not, and as Porple said above, guests make up a majority of people who view the wiki. If they find the length of time it takes to load too long for their liking, they could go to another Mario website instead, therefore losing our traffic, and probably much worse, a possible contributor. So yes, loading time DOES matter. Super Mario Bros. (talk)
Actually, as Steve said above, this doesn't apply to guests. They see a cached page that loads much more quickly. Twentytwofiftyseven (talk)

As much as RandomQuote is one of my coding prides on this wiki, 7 seconds is a major difference. I hope we can still use it somewhere, maybe not...maybe just an example on how to do esoteric coding, maybe... also, per Luigifreak, the remedy to multiple quotes on the same page is still an issue. Wayoshi (talk)

Maybe you could fix it with multisecseparators? Twentytwofiftyseven (talk)

To Opposers: If you have "patience", you would have the patience to go to the seperate page Twentytwofiftyseven was talking about. This proposal is just to remove it from the front page and move it to another page, not to remove it entirely. And besides, it may be a few seconds difference for some of you, but for other users, it may be several seconds difference or even minutes in some cases. T.c.w7468 (talk)

Remove Featured Image Template From Main Page

keep template 5-12
Well, I'm am removing my other proposal and replacing it with this. Although I don't think we should get rid of the F.I. completely, I think that we should instead put it on the 'Shroom, which I would be glad to put it under my section (The Music & Artwork Team). We could still have the voting, and we could possibly link to the voting page on the sidebar, but it should go off of the Main Page (it will reduce loading time as well as get rid of some of the clutter on the Main Page). A link to what the page would look like after can be found here.

Remove Template

 1. Super Mario Bros. (talk) Per my reasons above, as well as the second sentence of Time Q's first comment below.
 2. Baby Mario Bloops (talk) Sure, I'll support Super Mario Bros.! Never really liked it.
 3. Jdrowlands (talk) Per SMB.
 4. DoctorWho 1995 (talk) I think the featured picture will suit it just right in the shroom. Much better than in the main page, anyway.
 5. Walkazo (talk) - What the editors choose to put in The 'Shroom is their choice, but if the FIs are removed from the Main Page, they should be removed outright; other than that, I support this proposal. While pictures are nice, the FI takes up a lot of space on our crowded Main Page. The FAs showcase user talent, whereas the FIs are just Nintendo's accomplishment; there's no doubt the FAs are meant to be on the Main Page, but compared to them, the image just seems like a tacked-on extra bit of bling. The Main Page has never been minimalisic, and I think it looked better before the FIs, Polls and Tourneys came along.

Keep Template

 1. GalacticPetey (talk) If we take the featured Image off the Main Page it will look very boring and I like having it on the main page SO KEEP IT!
 2. Lu-igi board (talk) per all. also, who keeps removing my vote!?
 3. Lewa159 (talk) Other professinal wiki's have a Featured Image, and it really brightens up the Main Page
 4. Bleh (talk) Having information and Mario related subjects actually tells newcomers that we are a Mario Wiki. It also shows them the best of what this Wiki has to offer. By doing that, it gives a good first impression, as well. And as we have already scrapped the quote of the day, we don't exactly want the main page to be that bare, do we?
 5. Castle Toad (talk) Well, the Quote of the day proposal was Good.... but if we keep deleting main page content... i think it'd be better having no Main Page then.
 6. Yoshario (talk) – Per Porplemontage's comment below, the quote of the day had DPL tags and everything, this is only one image. I don't know if it should be kept anyway, because it shows work of Nintendo, not our editors, whereas the Featured Article shows work of our editors, but since the FIs will just get moved to The 'Shroom anyway, I'm opposing this.
 7. T.c.w7468 (talk) The Featured Image on the Main Page is an important part of most good, extensive wikis such as this. The FI is probably not one of the things you want to remove from the main page in this wiki; removing it will make the main page look less attractive, and so removing it (from the main page) is not worth the reduction in loading time (which isn't much of a difference anyway).
 8. Stooben Rooben (talk) Per all, and Steve's comment below. One more image is not going to make enough of a difference in loading time, anyway. It's a nice feature that makes the wiki look more interesting; it shows that we are not only proud of our work (the articles), but Nintendo's as well (the artwork). Besides, it shows the kind of quality that this wiki will really appreciate users to bring to us.
 9. Twentytwofiftyseven (talk) As Porplemontage says below, there's a fundamental and important difference between QOTD and this. Images are loaded after other content by web browsers, so no real slowdown is caused by the FI. And IMO, the main page looks worse without it.
 10. Random User (talk) Per all.
 11. Lemmy Koopa Fan (talk) Per all. And I liked quote of the day so I'm not about to let another template I love go away. The main page looks really boring and bland without Featured Images.
 12. P. Trainer (talk) Per all.

Comments

I'm not sure. On the one hand, unlike the Featured Articles, what we're featuring here is NOT an achievement of our wiki and our editors, but rather of Nintendo, or whoever made the images. So the FIs are a bit pointless. On the other hand, I think they do make the main page more attractive, and we shouldn't undervalue that. They could attract new editors. If we wanted to clean the main page of all things that are not directly useful for the wiki, not much would be left. So I'd say, before removing the FIs, rather get rid of the Poll and Tournament thingies. Time Q (talk)

Also, the FIs change weekly, and the Shroom monthly, so should we out the 4 images? Tucayo (talk)

per Tucayo. the whole consept of the FI would need to change. You can't have a monthly FI that would kill it! Lu-igi board 16:59, 7 August 2009 (EDT)

I dunno, soon we're going to run out of images anyway Timmy Tim (talk)

A couple of responses. Time Q: The Tournament template can't be ridden of (it has not been a month, so no one is allowed to make a proposal to delete it). Perhaps it can be moved to the Pipe Plaza (or the 'Shroom, whichever one). Tucayo: What do you mean? Lu-igi board: When did I ever say there would only be one FI put on there? If there are four from each time the 'Shroom is released, then 4 can go on there. I could run the section, but the users can still vote. I would post them up there on the 'Shroom (in my section), and I'd still mark the images with the FI Template that I made. Super Mario Bros. (talk)

I meant what you said to Lu-igi Board :) Tucayo (talk)
Oh, okay. :) Super Mario Bros. (talk)

Ok, do any of the oppose votes even state a good reason? All they look like to me is 2 users saying that they like the template and it should stay for that reason. They don't mention any reasons of how keeping it will benefit the wiki. I think they should be removed. Anybody agree? Super Mario Bros. (talk)

Tough one. I'm not sure about some of the votes. I think GalacticPetey (and thusly Lu-igi board, who "pers all") has a valid reason: "The Main Page will look boring." He states why taking it off the main page would be bad for the wiki in his opinion, and that's ok. Egg Yoshi's reason seems to be: "Another thing has just been taken off the main page." I don't think that's valid. SMB, you say "per my reasons above", but there are no reasons. BMB just says "I never really liked it." Well, it's his opinion. But is it a valid reason? I'm not sure, but I wouldn't say so. Wayoshi's reason is not valid. By taking FIs off the main page, we wouldn't feature images other than artwork and box art either, so... Time Q (talk)
It's not up to them to make the super convincing point for it to stay; it's up to you to make the point that it should go. You give the reason that you want it in your 'Shroom section, and that's it. The "loading issue" is ridiculous--there's got to be a balance between acceptable content and how quickly the page loads. If all we cared about was load times the main page would simply say "Wiki Hi." The quote thing made a big difference because the wiki was having to do work to pull up a quote; remember this is just one image we're talking about here. Porplemontage (talk)
Ok, I also added another reason, read it carefully, it is only a couple of more words added on. Also, that can make my vote valid, as well as BMB's, as he said "Sure, I'll support Super Mario Bros.!", which I think means that he is in agreement with me. Now that I look at it, GalacticPetey's (and Lu-igi board's, who voted after I put my comment) vote are valid, and I agree that Wayoshi's and Egg Yoshi's vote are not valid, and that they should be removed. Super Mario Bros. (talk)

Why don't we have an 'image of the day' thing a bit like Random Quote? Jdrowlands (talk)

wunt work. alot of images are boring/blury. No one wants to see rubbish images on the front page. Lu-igi board 04:05, 9 August 2009 (EDT)

If we do move the FI to the Shroom, wouldn't that mean just moving the extra loading time to it? I daresay that the Shroom has enough content already, without it having to bear an extra template. I think things are fine the way they are. Some of the comments above may be invalid, but they count as a vote overall. If the users returned to this and posted a valid reason, then maybe we can actually debate on this issue, rather than talking about invalid votes and invalid reasons. After all, isn't the Proposal page for talking about proposals, not just the additional nuggets of information that come with it? But if that's the way this Wiki is run, then that's fine by me. Also, Super Mario Bros, you didn't nessecarily include a reason for removing FI - for the people who didn't catch your last proposal.Bleh (talk)

as i said before, even if it's not needed it's like something tht suits a main page, also, if wee keep deleting things... The main page will become boring. Castle Toad (talk)

looks like the FI is staying where it belongs. XD Lu-igi board 11:27, 10 August 2009 (EDT)

Well, if the amount of opposes stays the same, and supporters get at least one more vote, the proposal will be extended. XD Super Mario Bros. (talk)

I think Jardim's (and thus, Koopalmier's) vote is invalid, as it only states that the FI's make him feel proud as a Mario fan. Although i almost as much as idolize Mario myself, this does not prove my point wrong and doesn't help. Also, I think that T.c.w7468's vote is invalid, as the statement is not true (go here, also, the wiki would not just go bad if we remove one feature from the main page. If it doesn't work, then I'll make a proposal to add it back, perhaps I can ask the administrators to override the proposal if it doesn't work (they are within their rights). But I don't see this ruining the wiki if the FIs are moved to the 'Shroom. I don't see why that isn't feasible. Super Mario Bros. (talk)

Whoah, I'm surprised my vote got removed. FIs on Wikipedia are actual photographs of things usually. We are stuck to mainly artwork because that's the only canonical thing that looks good. It just doesn't fit in this wiki to me. Wayoshi (talk) 21:28, 10 August 2009 (EDT)

That actually seems like a fitting reason to me. Go ahead and put your comment in your vote or something. :) Also, does anybody agree that Jardim's, Koopalmier's, and T.c.w7468's votes are invalid? Super Mario Bros. (talk)
Seeing as this is a question of aesthetics (and thus, personal taste), it gets difficult to decide where the line between "fan votes" (to borrow an FA/FI term) and valid opinions is. Jardim's reflecting on the images themselves, and not their effect on the Main Page per se, so I'd be tempted to agree that his vote (and thus Koopalmier's vote as well) is invalid the way it is written now. However, it's clear that he's trying to tell us that removing the FIs is bad because it robs the Main Page of those great images and the feelings they inspire in users, so asking him to reword his vote would be the fairest course of action (instead of or in addition to removing the vote - either one works). T.c.w7468's vote is misguided, but just because all good wikis don't actually have FIs doesn't change the fact that he feels main page images should be a staple of good wikis (and therefore he believes we would benefit from our FI remaining), so I say that should stay. The knee jerk reaction is that a vote reading "it looks good this way" isn't valid, but that's largely the point of this proposal: which way looks better? - Walkazo (talk)
I think I agree with Walkazo's opinion on the validity of the votes. Since the deadline is not too far away, I'm removing Jardim's and Koopalmier's votes, but I'm going to tell them on their talk pages. I, personally, still can't decide for either side to support. Both make good points, so I'll just wait what the other users want. Time Q (talk)
I changed my vote description, do you guys think it's good enough? T.c.w7468 (talk)
Yup, it's valid now. Thanks! Time Q (talk)

Regularly Update News Page

add more "minor" news on the template 25-0
Every time I log onto the wiki, one of the first things I do is check the News section of the Main Page, along with the rest of the page. As I write this, on the 14th of August, the top headline is Mario Clock and Mario Calculator were released for DSiWare in Europe and Australia on July 3 and in North America on June 15, 2009. Wow, that sure was helpful, forty days ago! On other wikis, even minor news such as tidbits of info about upcoming games/shows/movies etc. is placed in the News template, yet we're stuck with information about a DSi feature released in July. I propose that minor news, such as information relating to an event in Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games or another trailer for New Super Mario Bros. Wii being released, for example, be placed in the News template before it becomes a joke.

Your proposal isn't really specific. I don't think the template is "a joke", or is becoming one. It has only the most important news - releases and announcements of games. If there's no news, we can't just make up some. I do agree, though, that we should also add the most important news on upcoming games. For example, when new characters in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games are confirmed, we should list that. But have any been confirmed lately? I don't know. Of course we could also add less important news to the template. The problem would be that the really important info would be gone from the template too early, at least in my opinion. So, to cut a long story short: Could you please specify what you mean by "minor news"? IMO, new trailers are too minor, but new characters are ok. Time Q (talk)

Well what about if a trailer was released for SMG2 which showed several new features and characters, would something like, A new trailer has revealed more information about the upcoming game Super Mario Galaxy 2? Or is that too minor in your opinion? We could also move the Tourney template to below the Proposal one, move the Poll Template and Did You Know Template down so they're next to the Tourney one and expand the News template. Timmy Tim (talk)
I say after today, we should get rid of the tourney template, and any user can edit that te,plate, I believe, so you can update it yourself :) Tucayo (talk)
That would violate the rules, as a proposal cannot be reversed until a month later (I would suggest a rule that if the administrators think a passed proposal is not good anymore, they could reverse it). Super Mario Bros. (talk)
Well, there is a rule saying we can remove proposals "at any time", which doesn't have to mean any time during the voting week ;) I actually meant to suggest an extension to that rule that would legitimately (i.e. not using a loophole in the phraseology) allow us to retroactively veto proposals (i.e. if one passed and immediately started causing major problems we had not foreseen), but I didn't get around to it... Maybe another Tourney Template Proposal could be made anyway, seeing as the circumstances have changed a fair bit (and so it's not just flip-flopping on an issue, which is what the one month waiting time is meant to prevent). - Walkazo (talk)

Guys, I think most of you have invalid reasons. "I want teh template to be updated!" isn't really valid. If there's no relevant news, we can't add some, it's as easy as that. And as far as I remember, there haven't been any important Mario news lately. So I vote for the removal of Baby Mario Bloops's, Egg Yoshi's, Platitudinous's, Noahp89's, and 4DJONG's votes. Timmy Tim, what would this proposal, if passed, change specifically? As for your question above, I think such trailers could be mentioned, but IMO it should be put as "X and Y are confirmed to appear in game Z" rather than "A new trailer for game Z was released". That's just my opinion, though. Time Q (talk)

Well, we have a number of new games on the way and information relating to their progress could be treated as news. If a new trailer for game Z is released revealing items X and Y, why not have an article in the news template stating Items X and Y have been revealed for game Z or A new trailer had revealed additional info about game Z? I suppose that would work for both you and I, as well as the supporters of this proposal who are sick of hearing about Mario Clock and Mario Calculator but wouldn't mind knowing if new content in NSMB Wii, for example is released. Timmy Tim (talk)
Okay. Still, I don't think this proposal would really change anything. If there is relevant news, feel free to add it. I don't think anyone would revert that, even if it's "only" about new characters or items. Oh, and as for your example news "A new trailer had revealed additional info about game Z": We should definitely say what kind of info it is. You probably meant that though, I just wanted to clarify. Time Q (talk)
I support TimeQ, this proposal is pointless, we do not need proposals about this kind of stuff. Tucayo (talk)
He's not really saying it's pointless really, just what it will accomplish if this is passed, or just clarifying some... things. MechaWave (talk)

Here's a new idea, why not rename it News as opposed to Mario and Nintendo News and add in wiki-realted news such as UserX has been promoted to Patroller or The latest issue of The 'Shroom has been released? that could work. Also, there's finally some new news, after over a month of now useless info! Timmy Tim (talk)

We have the announcement template for that. --Yoshario (talk)
Yeah, but we never use that much anyway and we could kill two birds with one stone. Timmy Tim (talk)
We have Template:Notices, its not protected, so anyone can update it Tucayo (talk)

Make a to- do list on the main page

invalidated due to outside changes
Over on Bulbapedia, they have a specific box on their main page that tells users what needs to be done, what are some featured stubs, and articles that need to be created. I think we should have something like this that everyone can use. I am proposing this because I am noticing lots of articles that have big pieces of information missing or needed, and some of their talk pages haven't been used for so long, it would be silly to put something there when nobody checks them regularly. The to-do list would tell everyone that visits the main page what we need and I think it would be a big help finding everyone something to do. (For those of you that are reading this, please check out SMB's proposal below mine.)

No, I'm not proposing we make the pipe plaza, I'm just saying we should make a place where users can look quickly to see what needs to be done. Check it out on Bulbapedia- they've gotten a lot of work done with this system. --FunkyK38 16:21, 17 August 2009 (EDT)

Yeah, that idea sounds good, a mini featured stub/wanted article template on the main page should do. Timmy Tim (talk)
So basically you want us to copy this? I don't think Bulbapedia will like that. Marioguy1 (talk)
True but we could tweak it here and there, make it more orginal, add stuff like images not found on pages and a link to the maintenance page. Timmy Tim (talk)
We already have a To do list. We don't need to copy another one off of another website when we already have one of our own. Also, under the announcements section, there is a list of articles that need to be rewritten, under collaborations is a list of Featured Article nominations and articles nominated to be unfeatured (which means we can work on those articles, helping them earn/keep FA status). Our to do list covers another major portion of what needs to be done, so I don't think we need another to do list when we have one.
Also, Timmy Tim, why should we put a to do list on the Main Page? We are supposed to show some of our best features on the main page, not the articles and such that needs help. Let's just stick with the Pipe Plaza. Super Mario Bros. (talk)
To answer you question, SMB, if we are supposed to be putting things on the main page that look nice and attract people to our wiki, what is the proposals box doing up there? Also, a visible box for what we need could help attract members with the information that we need to make our wiki better. FunkyK38 (talk)
Ok, we do have a visible box. It is a template in the Pipe Plaza. And your arguement is very flawed about the proposals box (it shows what is going on in the wiki and possible changes that might occur), and I'm sorry to say that I don't think that moving a to-do list to the Main Page would improve the quality of the wiki or the Main Page itself. We have too many boxes on the Main Page as it is, and it would look unattractive if any more boxes were added. Do you even have a sample of what the Main Page would look like? I think you should show us an example so that we know what the Main Page would look like after this possible change. Super Mario Bros. (talk)
FunkyK38. I would like to see a version of your main page. I need to see how it would look if we did that! Who knows, the main page may not be able to fit it. If you provide a satisfactory example, I will change my vote. Marioguy1 (talk)
I'm just adding that I will probably not change my vote. The Main Page is too cluttered as it is, and adding more unnecessary information is not the best thing to do. We need to get rid of some of the Main Page content. Super Mario Bros. (talk)
Okay, SMB, I can respect that you aren't going to change your vote, but maybe you could come up with some ideas for a less cluttered main page? And Marioguy1, here's your link: User:FunkyK38/Proposal. Take a look, and tell me if you think something needs to be changed. FunkyK38 (talk)
I have tried, (I proposed to remove the Featured Images and move them to the 'Shroom, but that didn't work). I will also propose to have that tournaments box removed pretty soon, as we can easily list tournaments in the Pipe Plaza and it has its own section in the 'Shroom. Super Mario Bros. (talk)
Hey, I'm fine with being flexible. Like HTN64DD and Itachi said, we could make it a clear, visible link to the pipe plaza.FunkyK38 (talk)
Hey, here is one way that we could make the Main Page less cluttered. Super Mario Bros. (talk)

Remove Some Templates From the Main Page

invalidated due to changes
Ok, I finally thought this through. I think we should remove the tourney template and the poll template. The tourney thing is more of something we should find in the Pipe Plaza, and we already have a poll section in the Fake News of The 'Shroom managed by, *gasp* Stooben Rooben, the same person who is supposed to update the polls on the Main Page! The only thing is that the polls would come out once a month, but I don't see that as much of a difference as the weekly polls aren't really even updated once a week, and usually sit for a long time. So, what I'm initially saying is: Move the tourneys to the Pipe Plaza (NOT in template form), and get rid of the Main Page polls because we have polls on the 'Shroom. This proposal will work in conjunction with FunkyK38's proposal above (she now only wants to add a link on the Main Page that leads to the Pipe Plaza), and an example of how it would look after all of the changes can be found here.

 1. Super Mario Bros. (talk) This will make the Main Page less cluttered, something a lot of users have wanted for a while.
 2. Paper Yoshi (talk) Just great. Porplemontage's Main Page is really good. Also per SMB.
 3. FunkyK38 (talk) The new main page looks awesome. It looks better than it did before, and that is a good thing. Less clutter= nicer Main Page!
 4. Baby Mario Bloops (talk) I been waiting for this proposal! It would help us a lot if you got rid of some templates.

Oppose

 1. WarioLoaf (talk) I just went through the arduous task of getting that tourney template just a few weeks back! take it down, yes. But until an actual tourney comes up! hell man, you even supported the template.
 2. Itachi 96 (talk) Per WarioLoaf.
 3. Tucayo (talk) - Per WL

Comments

This does not violate the 1-month rule, as the rule really states 28 days (it has been 29 days since the tourney proposal passed). Super Mario Bros. (talk)

You need something else on the right because I balance the two columns. Porplemontage (talk)

The main page example that you are creating looks good, to tell you the truth. Super Mario Bros. (talk)
Yes, this is my solution. The Pipe Plaza section could contain any snippet from the Pipe Plaza; I just copied in some text from News and Maintenance as an example. Porplemontage (talk)
That's a good solution, indeed. I would have to say yes, this would be good for our Main Page. Super Mario Bros. (talk)

Lemmy Koopa Fan (talk)I like the polls, but I don't even know what the tourneys are so I'd say remove tourneys and keep polls. But if there's a poll section on the 'Shroom, I don't know what to say, because I never go to the 'Shroom.

WarioLoaf, what you call an "arduous task" was actually a proposal that everybody supported and a sysyops putting up the template for you. Besides, this is more of a community thing. In the Pipe Plaza template, you can put that you have a tourney going on, who is organizing it, and the date. There is also a "Tournament Central" in The 'Shroom, which isn't being used right now. Perhaps you should sign up for it. The thing is, when that thing is empty like it has been for a week, and probably longer, it adds to the clutter. At least the way it is now we can announce tourneys and other things going on in the community part of the wiki. Super Mario Bros. (talk)

I renamed Pipe Plaza so it's a little more vague and could include any type of community happenings as well as maintenance and such. So Tourneys could easily be announced in there. I don't think a tourney deserves its own section on the main page every time we have one. Porplemontage (talk)

Create poll to determine North American vs. PAL names

do not create poll 7-12
It seems that people are regularly debating over if North American or PAL names should be used when discussing games. I think we should make a final, permanent decision by advertising a poll in the Main Page info bar and leave the poll up for a month. This way, we could find the demographics of the users and determine this annoying question.

 1. Ralphfan (talk) - Per above. We won't have to put up with this crap anymore.
 2. FunkyK38 (talk) - It's a good idea. It's dumb to keep arguing about something like this. This will help settle it.
 3. Baby Mario Bloops (talk) - Per all, I have nothing more to say.
 4. Itachi 96 (talk) Why does Mario Strikers Charged and Super Mario Strikers have their PAL name and not the others games? Its either completely NA or completely PAL.
 5. Parayoshi (talk) Per Itachi 96. It's not exactly consistent from article to article, and while I don't really care whether its NA or PAL, the wiki needs to make a decision again.
 6. Zero777 (talk) I am Zero! I really like this idea very much, probably it can also vote on which boxart to use on the infobox, if the boxarts are different. Zero signing out.
 7. go for it. per all. Lu-igi board 06:29, 27 August 2009 (EDT)

Oppose

 1. Super Mario Bros. (talk) No, you should make a proposal about what you want directly, not to make a poll to put on the main page for something that was already decided. Stick to a proposal.
 2. Cobold (talk) It's been confirmed a long time ago by Steve that oveer 90% of the wiki's userbase is American - the real point of the name discussion is that while the name "Super Mario Strikers" it not very important to American users, as they rarely own the game, European users are much more likely to have it and care about it. For the football/soccer games we should definitely keep the current names - I agree that it's a bit more controversial for WarioWare and Yoshi's Universial Gravitation.
 3. Arend (talk) As Cobold said, there are 90% American Users on this wiki. So, if we do a poll to decide, I'm sure that American names will win, because of such big group, and those Americans of course vote for their own continent! That would actually a bit unfair for a small percent of Europeans, and even less percent of Australians. Also, a poll is completely for having it about the (Mario) game mechanics, not about problems on the wiki how games must be named. There are the proposals for.
 4. Tucayo (talk) - Of course i can :) If we settled this with a poll, it wouldnt be... uh... controlled, organized. Many people may vote twice or more, and decisions of this type are always made with proposals :) BTW, here are the demographics.United States 54.8%, Canada 5%, Great Britain (UK) 4.2%, Mexico 3.3%, Netherlands 2.4%, India 2%
 5. Time Q (talk): Per Cobold.
 6. Yoshario (talk) – Per all.
 7. Twentytwofiftyseven (talk) - Really sort of missing the point here. There never was a debate of NA vs. PAL names. If you read the proposal that created the current system, it's about being fair to as many people as possible, and not just to the American majority. This proposal would reverse our attempt to be fair and could alienate users. Besides that, we don't generally overturn proposals with polls.
 8. Luigifreak (talk) Per all.
 9. Clyde1998 (talk) - Didn't we have a vote on this before. We decided that the Region that it came out first gets there name, i.e. Mario Strikers Charged became Mario Strikers Charged Football. A vote wouldn't go down well as over half of the users are from the United States and Canada, It's not fair if we did vote. Also Per Cobold and Tuycayo for there comments.
 10. Paper Yoshi (talk) - Per all.
 11. Walkazo (talk) - Per all: we already know the statistics, and this is too important a decision to be decided by a poll anyway.
 12. T.c.w7468 (talk) Per 2257.

Comments

With this, we'll never have to worry about it again! - Ralphfan (talk)

I have the demographics. If that's the only purpose of the poll, then there's no need. Porplemontage (talk)

Check this. A (quite controversial) decision was already made a while back, that is, whichever region it was released in first is what name it gets. Super Mario Bros. (talk)
We should settle it, but not with a poll, WITH A PROPOSAL Tucayo (talk)

To Itachi 96: We use the First English rule, meaning we use the name of the game in which English country it first was released. Both Mario Strikers titles first released in Europe, that's why. Also mechanics in a game, with a different name are under this rule, so Locations, items, characters, ect. can have a different name. Arend (talk)

Tucayo, could you elaborate on your vote a bit? I don't think it's valid as it is. Why can't we settle this with a poll? Time Q (talk)

Revert First English Title proposal

do not revert 5-12
Some good time ago, we had this proposal that made us use many Europen names, which mariowikians are not used to, so I propose we use American titles for all the pages, indiferent of their first name

 1. Tucayo (talk) - Per me
 2. Itachi 96 (talk) Per Tucayo and Walkazo below.
 3. P. Trainer (talk) Per all.
 4. Paper Boo Guy (talk) Per all. By the way, I'm from NA, and it seems.. slightly offending..in fact, VERY offending. And also: this example: User searches for the article Super Mario Strikers. User comes to redirect. (Maybe I typed it wrong.) He thinks. So he tries again. User repeats the process 10 times. User tries the redirect. Mario Strikers Football' (titled Super Mario Strikers in North America... User bangs head against wall, has a concussion, goes to the hospital, turns out User has amnesia. THE END.
 5. Walkazo (talk) - Yes, going by the first English names sounds like the most objective way of naming articles, but the fact is, most people don't understand that; they only see the sporadic PAL names amongst the NA majority, and get confused. Dozens of users inquire about the "inconsistency", and others even change them back on their own; and there's no telling what the unregistered guests think. Searching for one name redirects to the other, so there's no problem there, however reading through the Wiki and following links does necessitate knowing what games are what; it's just a question of whether the North Americans have to memorize a few PAL names, or whether the PAL readers have to memorize a few more NA titles. Since the North Americans are the majority, giving them the default forces less people to go out of their way to navigate the Wiki, so in that respect, it's the better choice. These discussions obsess about the "American Imperialist" notion, which is what's offensive: why do PAL region users who prefer their names get sympathetic accommodation, whereas the North Americans who take pride in their own localization get flamed? "Fairness" is subjective - either way, the outcome of this proposal will be considered unfair to a lot of people, so we should focus on how effectively the Wiki communicates its information instead - and so far, it's telling us the First English Name rule isn't working in the face of the reader demographics. It's nothing personal, just business, and that's the only way this proposal can be dealt with "fairly".

Oppose

 1. Twentytwofiftyseven (talk) - Basically, per the reasoning of the proposal that did this in the first place. Additionally, it's not as simple as using "many European names," it's about not supporting one localization of the (Japanese) Mario games over another. Nintendo of Europe's product is just as valid as Nintendo of America's, so we need an unbiased way to decide which to support. Release date is the most obvious of the possible criteria.
 2. Yoshario (talk) – Per 2257
 3. Arend (talk) per 2257
 4. Cobold (talk) per my oppose in the proposal above: It's been confirmed a long time ago by Steve that oveer 90% of the wiki's userbase is American - the real point of the name discussion is that while the name "Super Mario Strikers" it not very important to American users, as they rarely own the game, European users are much more likely to have it and care about it. For the football/soccer games we should definitely keep the current names - I agree that it's a bit more controversial for WarioWare and Yoshi's Universial Gravitation.
 5. Time Q (talk): Per all... even if I abstained on the original proposal. But it does make sense.
 6. Zero777 (talk) I am Zero! The proposal above proposes of a more sensible thing to do. Zero signing out.
 7. Luigifreak (talk) Per Cobold and 2257.
 8. Clyde1998 (talk) - Per 2257 and Cobold. P.S. It's not Soccer, it's Football. (Manchester United Football Club, not Soccer Club)
 9. Paper Yoshi (talk) - Per 2257 and Cobold.
 10. T.c.w7468 (talk) Per 2257 and Cobold.
 11. MechaWave (talk) - All this debate is pathetic. In America, Soccer and Football are separate sports, I don't care if more of the community is more American, everyone can either make a redirect, or put a slash next to the European title or whatever, but changing the title as a whole is a no-no. Per 2257.
 12. Timmy Tim (talk) Now I give it a think, this is ridiculous. Oh, and per Clyde1998.

Comments

Well, I was just reading the original proposal, it seems very controversial. I myself am abstaining from voting as I understand both points of view. I will admit I'm an American, and I'm proud of it, too. But I feel there is no "wrong" in whichever decision is made. I would go as far as to say that Porplemontage should decide, he is the owner of the wiki and should make all monumental decisions, I just feel that this is too big of an action for the regular community to decide on, as it is mostly probably going to be bias that fuels a lot of the votes. Super Mario Bros. (talk)

To Cobold: Great you voted on the same as me, but is the only thing the Mario Football/Strikers series? Have you actually realized that the European names of some cars in Mario Kart Wii are better than the American names? Take for example B-Dasher Mk. 2. in NA it's just Sprinter. And Bowser Bike is called Flame Runner in NA. I liked both European Names better. B-Dasher Mk. 2: Mario's version looks indeed like the original, but because in the Wii Screen of the Mario Kart Channel, it got Bowser Jr.'s theme, i's called in NA Sprinter. Bowser Bike: You see directly: that's from Bowser, because of the face. But Flame Runner... It has indeed to fit in Bowser, but I don't see any flames. At The Flame Flyer (the car), I DO see flames, even that they are just printed on the car, but they're still flames. Arend (talk)

Of course you can consider some of the names better, but we need to be objective and have a system that isn't completely random. For the Mario Kart Wii karts and bikes, I don't see much of a problem because all are listed with both names in the table on the game's page. - Cobold (talk)

Paper Boo Guy: What exactly offends you about this? I don't see anything offensive, and I live in the United States. Also, I don't really understand your story about the redirects. You don't have to click a redirect, it moves you to a new page automatically... Try clicking Super Mario Strikers and see what happens. Unless you're suggesting that this hypothetical person won't even read the first line of the page they get redirected to... Besides, what part of what you described couldn't just as easily happen to a European user who searched "Mario Smash Football"? Twentytwofiftyseven (talk).
