FAQ talk

Welcome to the FAQ talk. Have a question you want to ask that you haven't found the answer to? Ask it here! We might even add it to the FAQ.

Unimplemented Proposals[edit]

For unimplemented proposals, does the creator have to be the one to put it into effect or can anybody do it? Rykitu (talk)

Anyone can implement proposals, but sometimes the implementer may do it differently than the proposer anticipated. If a proposal is complicated to implement, I'd recommend consulting with the proposer first. link:User:Sparks Sparks (talk) link:User:Sparks 16:12, December 28, 2024 (EST)

Adblocking[edit]

Are adblockers acceptable of the MarioWiki? Justjourney (talk) 20:24, February 11, 2025 (EST)

If you have an account (which you do) and are logged in to it, you won't get any ads to begin with, so an adblocker is unnecessary. Technetium (talk) 20:34, February 11, 2025 (EST)

Subscribe[edit]

How do I subscribe to conversations like on Wikipedia? Can you not do that here? Justjourney (talk) 20:25, February 11, 2025 (EST)

You can watch talk pages (and their corresponding main article) by clicking the star icon. This will add them to your watchlist. Technetium (talk) 20:34, February 11, 2025 (EST)

Using content from this Wiki[edit]

Am I aloud to use images from the galleries on this wiki for videos and posts?
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by Murple (talk).

Of course. A lot of videos and posts do that, and we don't own the artwork and screenshots, we're just documenting them (unless the image is user-created like a level map or diagram, in which case the author should be credited). You can simply credit the wiki as the source for where you got the images. Samus costume, in Super Mario Maker. Mario JC 07:59, May 7, 2025 (EDT)

Replacing images in galleries[edit]

Trying to replace some of the screenshots of Donkey Kong Bananza's loading screen artwork with higher quality versions (funnily, one of the screenshots was a jpg crunched version of a screenshot I took lol) but can't figure it out, I managed to upload the image but am unsure how to replace the previous version of it with the new one. I haven't done much wiki editing so apologies if there are errors too lol.

Edit: Also how do I sign? My username is Flammie lol

You edit the page displaying the image and change the file name of the old image to the new image's one (I've done it for you here). Then you can just mark the old image with {{delete}} and an admin will delete it eventually.
You sign by typing four tildes: ~~~~ Samus costume, in Super Mario Maker. Mario JC 07:56, June 25, 2025 (EDT)

One of the sections isn’t updated[edit]

In the section “Hey MarioWiki, could you make a [insert language] version of the wiki?”, it only mentioned German and Italian, but now there’s a French wiki affiliated with this one. Just saying, maybe French should be added there. Balugio (talk) 06:35, August 12, 2025 (EDT)

Are there any tools for archiving on user talk pages?[edit]

During my time on Wikipedia, I used a bot called ClueBotIII on my talk page that automatically archived topics after a set period of time. I'm wondering if there's anything similar here, as I liked how it kept my talk page organized. Sargent Deez (talk) 17:51, August 21, 2025 (EDT)

Source URLs[edit]

I have some more images of Guru Guru Mario from a now deleted auction site. I want to add those images to a gallery section, but I don't have the URL with me so I can't find it in the Wayback Machine. I was wondering if it's possible to upload images without typing anything in the "Source URL" section. I know this is possible as I've seen pictures on this wiki tooken by the editors themselves and placed on the wiki that are nowhere else on the Internet. Nevermind, you don't need to fill out the Source URL. Sprite of Lakitu from Super Mario Bros.RykituSprite of Lakitu from Super Mario Bros.

Regarding the Rewrite-expand template...[edit]

Heya, I decided to finally make an account on this wiki and I'd like to ask the following (not sure if I should ask here or in the template's talk page): if a page has the {{rewrite-expand}} template on it and I only end up addressing one of the issues, what should be done to the template in the article? (For reference I'm trying to improve the grammar in Mario Party Fushigi no Korokoro Catcher 2 and since the game is hard to access due to its nature I can't really address the other issues present in the article) SuperGamer18 (talk) 17:55, December 30, 2025 (EST)

How to find vandals[edit]

I was wondering, how can a (normal) user more easily find a vandal (similar to how the Wiki Staff does)? Cause I've been on this wiki for at least a year and I've never encountered one. Red Yoshi from Mario Kart Tour Yoshi18 (talk/contribs) 23:10, January 25, 2026 (UTC)

I've seen my fair share of them, the reason they go unnoticed is usually because they're banned on the spot. The Dab Master 23:13, January 25, 2026 (UTC)
I see. Just wondering how in over ±365 days of being on this wiki. Red Yoshi from Mario Kart Tour Yoshi18 (talk/contribs) 23:17, January 25, 2026 (UTC)
Check diffs in recent changes, check if there's blanking of content, etc. Vandals sometimes pop up, I don't catch them as much as I used to but they're still around and will always be around. BabyLuigiFire.pngXiahou Ba(the Nasty Warrior) 23:21, January 25, 2026 (UTC)
Checking the pages that you've edited (or at the very least your watchlist) should help a bit, I've only seen one so far in Athletic BGM (Super Mario Bros. 3) and all they did was add a bit of junk after the debut game. They were thankfully blocked before I reverted the edit (it was an IP address). SuperGamer18 (talk) 23:24, January 25, 2026 (UTC)
Thanks for the tips! Red Yoshi from Mario Kart Tour Yoshi18 (talk/contribs) 23:25, January 25, 2026 (UTC)
If you look at the recent changes often enough, you may spot one eventually. The Dab Master 23:28, January 25, 2026 (UTC)
