Alpine Assault is a 4-Player minigame in Mario Party 8, as well as a single-player minigame in Test for the Best.

Introduction[edit]

Beside an audience of cheering Goombas, the four players are on snowboards, behind the gate, ready to go.

Gameplay[edit]

The objective is to get down the hill first. The player controls themselves by turning the Wii Remote. On ramps, if the player presses A Button or B Button and turns, they get a boost of speed when they land. There are obstacles along the way, such as Mr. Blizzards, that can get in the way while the player goes down. The player who crosses the finish line first wins. If all four players cross the finish line at the same time or if five minutes pass, the minigame ends in a tie.

Ending[edit]

All four players are at the bottom, the winner standing slightly in front of the others, with their boards standing in the snow. The winner does their victory dance while the losers do their losing animations. If the minigame ends in a tie, the players are lined up by player order. The characters face the screen and perform their losing animations.

Test for the Best[edit]

In Test for the Best, the player plays alone in this minigame and must reach the finish as fast as possible. The times required to earn a certain point total are as follows:

Grade Points earned Time required in minigame (NTSC) Time required in minigame (PAL) Title
A+ 1,000 0:30.00 0:37.00 High-Speed Boarder

B 800 0:33.00 0:40.00 Speedy Boarder
C 700 0:34.50 0:41.50 Average Boarder
D 600 0:36.00 0:43.00 Standard Boarder
F 0 N/A N/A Slow Boarder

Getting a time of over 0:45.00 (NTSC) results in zero points earned for the minigame.
