Wind-Up Tower, or Layer-Cake Desert-Tower, is the tower of Layer-Cake Desert in New Super Luigi U. It is unlocked by completing Piranhas in the Dark or Underground Grrrols, and its own completion unlocks the path to The Walls Have Eyes.

Layout[edit]

Luigi begins the level near a screw that he must spin in order to access Screwtop Platforms. The Screwtop Platforms can be used as stairs to advance through the level. At the top of the Screwtop Platforms, five Dry Bones can be found, along with two ? Blocks, a Hidden Block on the right that contains a 1-Up Mushroom and a second screw. The screw causes Screwtop Platforms to move along tracks, allowing Luigi to reach a platform with a third screw on it. Spinning on the screw causes Screwtop Platforms above it to move apart, allowing Luigi to reach the boss door. Boom Boom, who is given the ability to spin jump by Magikoopa, must be fought in order to finish the level.

Star Coins[edit]

  • Star Coin 1: After winding up the first screw, the player must hop onto a smaller Screwtop Platform and grab the first Star Coin before the other Screwtop Platforms close in on it.
  • Star Coin 2: After winding up the second screw, the player must grab the Star Coin that is next to the third Screwtop Platform from the bottom before it moves back into the wall.
  • Star Coin 3: After winding up the last screw, the player must quickly make their way up the tower using the Screwtop Platforms as stairs and grab the Star Coin (located beneath the door that leads to Boom Boom) before the Screwtop Platforms close in on it.

Luigi Sighting[edit]

An 8-bit Luigi can be seen standing behind a Screwtop Platform on the left side of the screen shortly before the third Star Coin.
