Random Direction is one of the Assembly Dojo techniques in WarioWare: D.I.Y. It is the fourth technique in the red set, and the twenty-eighth overall in the game. The goal of this technique is to make an object face one of four directions with equal odds.
Overview[edit]
At the start of Assembly, the player is presented with three Objects. In the center of the stage is a C-shaped object labeled "Sign" pointing rightwards be default. In the top left and top right corners, two invisible objects labeled "Dummy-L" and "Dummy-R" respectively. By default, when starting the microgame, the C in the center will face either left or up 25% of the time, or right 50% of the time.
Objects[edit]
- Sign
| AI # | Effect |
|---|---|
| 1 | When DUMMY-L switch is ON & While DUMMY-R switch is ON: Change art to UP. |
| 2 | When DUMMY-L switch is ON & While DUMMY-R switch is OFF: Change art to LEFT. |
| 3 | When DUMMY-L switch is OFF & ? Change art to DOWN. |
- Dummy-L & Dummy-R
| AI # | Effect |
|---|---|
| 1 | When time 1-1 is hit & When a time from 1-1 to 1-2 is hit: Turn (DUMMY-L or DUMMY-R) switch ON. |
The second item of the third trigger of the Object "Sign" may be modified by the player.
Solution[edit]
To complete the technique, the second item of Object "Sign"'s third trigger must be set to "Switch > Dummy-R > Switch is ON".
In-game text[edit]
- Description – "Time for Randomized AI Problem #2! This is another problem where things seem really tough...but the answer's pretty simple!"
- Hint #1 – "What state are the DUMMY-L and DUMMY-R switches in when the game starts?"
- Hint #2 – "How many different ON/OFF combinations can you have with two switches?"
- Notes (Page 1) – "The L and R dummy objects each have AI set so that their switches have a 50/50 chance of being ON. Therefore, when the game begins, you could have any of the above situations. Each has a one-in-four chance of occurring."
- Notes (Page 2) – "So if you can tie each arrow (up, down, left, and right) to one of these four patterns... Then all you have to do is create a trigger for each of them, triggers that will guarantee that each action has a one-in-four chance of occurring!"
