On, Then Off is one of the Assembly Dojo techniques in WarioWare: D.I.Y. It is the eighth and final technique in the yellow set, and the twenty-fourth overall in the game. The goal of this technique is to allow for a microgame to be completed after an Object's switch goes from "on" to "off".

Overview[edit]

At the start of Assembly, the player is presented with two Objects at the center of the screen. A grayed-out circle, labeled "Light", and a lightswitch, labeled "Switch". When tapping the Switch object, the "Light" object turns yellow and its switch turns on, and the "Switch" Object's switch turns on. By tapping the "Switch" object a second time, its switch turns off, and the "Light" object turns gray, without turning off its switch.

Objects[edit]

Switch
AI # Effect
1 When SWITCH is tapped:
Change art to ON.
Turn SWITCH switch ON.
Play KNIFE CHOP sound effect.
2 When SWITCH is tapped &
While SWITCH is ON:
Turn SWITCH OFF.
Change art to OFF.
Light
AI # Effect
1 When SWITCH switch turns ON:
Turn LIGHT switch ON.
Change art to ON.
Play COIN sound effect.
2 When SWITCH switch turns OFF:
Change art to OFF.

None of the objects may be modified by the player. Instead, the Win Conditions may be modified by the player.

Solution[edit]

To complete the technique, the Win Conditions should be set such that there is one Win Condition, configured as such:

  • Object "SWITCH"'s switch is OFF.
  • Object "LIGHT"'s switch is ON.

In-game text[edit]

  • Description"The win condition for this game is NOT for the light to turn off. It's for the light to turn on and THEN off. Got it?"
  • Hint #1"What's going on with the two switches when you win?"
  • Hint #2"Make sure the right ON/OFF combination is written in the right place."
  • Notes (Page 1)"We stuck you with a tricky little combination of switches in this challenge. Did you solve it the right way?"
  • Notes (Page 2)"Win conditions are usually used to monitor whether switches are ON, but they are just as effective when monitoring if switches are OFF. It's easy to forget options like that, but try to take advantage of them!"
