Deadly Spikes is one of the Assembly Dojo techniques in WarioWare: D.I.Y. It is the fifth technique in the blue set, and the thirteenth overall in the game. The goal of this technique is to make it so an object cannot be moved if it touches an area.
Overview[edit]
At the start of Assembly, the player is presented with a stage featuring a white floor with five white spikes in the center. In the top center of the screen, an Object named "Disc" is present, taking the form of a white oval with a green arrow pointing upwards. When starting the microgame, the disc starts to descend onto the spikes. If the disc touches the area of the stage with the spikes, it stops, a slicing sound is heard, and the microgame is lost. Within the provided sample, tapping the disc before it lands on the spikes causes it to ascend, which wins the microgame at the end of the timer.
Objects[edit]
- Disc
| AI # | Effect |
|---|---|
| 1 | When time 1-1 is hit:
Go SOUTH. |
| 2 | When DISC is tapped & ? Go NORTH. |
| 3 | When DISC touches (the area with the spikes):
Stop traveling. End game in a loss. Play SLICE sound effect. Activate FLASH effect. |
| 4 | When time end is hit:
Turn DISC switch ON. |
The second item of the Object "Disc"'s second trigger may be modified by the player.
Solution[edit]
To complete the technique, the second item of Object "Disc"'s second trigger must be set to "Win/Loss > Not yet lost".
In-game text[edit]
- Description – "The disc needs to go up when tapped, but we don't want it to be able to go up if it's stuck on the spikes!"
- Hint #1 – "In the AI, what's the most important effect of the disc hitting the spikes?"
- Hint #2 – "How could you base a trigger on the disc not yet having stuck to the spikes?"
- Notes (Page 1) – "If you were to look closely at the disc AI, you'd notice it is set to end the game in a loss if the disc touches the spikes."
- Notes (Page 2) – "You'd want to make AI that says: "When tapped, and the game has already been lost, stop the object from going up." Unfortunately, we don't have an action that can stop the object from going up, so we have to think of another way to say it."
- Notes (Page 3) – ""When tapped, and the game has already been lost, stop the object from going up." In other words: "When tapped, and the game has not been lost, make the object go up." These two sentences are saying essentially the same thing."
