Biddybuds are multicolored lady beetle enemies. First appearing in Super Mario 3D Land, they occur in red, yellow, blue, green, and pink varieties.
In the platforming games, Biddybuds walk along the ground on a set path, similarly to Goombas. Unlike Goombas, who will leave their path and chase the player character on sight, Biddybuds are pacifistic, and will continue patrolling their set path. Biddybuds make alternating high- and low-pitched sounds that can be heard if the player is near them, typically matching the rhythm of the background music.
History[edit]
Super Mario series[edit]
Super Mario 3D Land[edit]
Biddybuds first appear in World 1-3 as common enemies. They mainly appear in groups of two to five and walk in a set pattern, often circular. Mario can defeat them with any type of attack. They also have a winged variety called Para-Biddybuds.
Super Mario 3D World / Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury[edit]
Biddybuds retain their role in Super Mario 3D World and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, now in larger groups but in fewer levels. In the Bowser's Fury campaign, Biddybuds with fur, tails, and cat ears appear around Lake Lapcat as enemies. These cat-like Biddybuds behave identically to their ordinary counterparts.
Mario Kart series[edit]
Mario Kart 8[edit]
Biddybuds are referenced in Mario Kart 8 and its port in the form of a kart called the Biddybuggy, more specifically based on their flying counterparts.
Mario Kart World[edit]
While Biddybuds themselves do not appear in Mario Kart World, Para-Biddybuds appear as track obstacles, while one appears as a playable character, marking the first playable appearance of any variant of Biddybud. The Biddybuggy also returns.
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker[edit]
Biddybuds are enemies in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and its its ports, behaving identically as in previous games.
Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam[edit]
Biddybuds reappear in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam as enemies. They are found in Sunbeam Plains and later Mount Brrr. They always battle in stacks. Biddybuds can attack by walking into one of the Mario Bros. in a straight line, or they can attack by walking in a stack, occasionally stumbling, causing them to slow down briefly. If they are jumped on while walking in a stack, every Biddybud in the stack will take damage.
The basic jump can only hit the topmost Biddybud in the stack; if this happens to defeat the Biddybud, that Biddybud will fall off the stack and burst upon impact with the ground. Using the basic hammer or the 3D Red Shell will target the bottommost Biddybud, and defeating that Biddybud causes the higher members to fall. If the player uses Dropchopper or Cannonball Chuck, the entire stack of Biddybuds will all take damage.
Mario Tennis Aces[edit]
In Mario Tennis Aces, Biddybuds act as spectators in the Piranha Plant Forest court.
Mario Golf: Super Rush[edit]
Biddybuds appear in Mario Golf: Super Rush where they act as obstacles in Wildweather Woods. In Speed Golf, they will slow players down when bumped into but can also be jumped on to gain coins.
Illumination film series[edit]
The Super Mario Bros. Movie[edit]
Three Biddybuds can be seen briefly walking by towards the beginning of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. They appear upon Mario's first meeting with Toad, causing a concerned and frightened Mario to jog away from them and follow Toad. They are featured in promotional posters for the film, including Mario's standalone poster. Unlike in the games, these Biddybuds are not part of the Koopa Troop, but are instead part of the Mushroom Kingdom's wildlife.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie[edit]
Biddybuds are seen in the reveal trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
Super Mario Party Jamboree[edit]
Biddybuds are in the Showdown minigames Peach's Day Off, Yoshi's Mountain Race and Jr.'s Jauntlet in Super Mario Party Jamboree. They are sometimes in the 4-Player minigame Camera-Ready.

Names in other languages[edit]
The contemporaneous name for each language is listed first. Subsequent names are listed in chronological order for each language, from oldest to newest, and have the media with which they are associated in the "Notes" column. Names exclusive to localizations of the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia are not prioritized due to concerns about circular reporting, and are only listed first for their respective languages if they are the only ones available.
