Hello and welcome to this month's Pipe Plaza! As I write this, it is currently less than a week from opening night of the spring play at my college! (Some of you have probably heard me mention "the Shakespeare thing", my personal prop table, or a certain pie... these are all related to the play) I'm very stressed and tired and currently trying to not murder my voice!! Send lots of caffeinated drinks pls, I will not survive otherwise.

Anyways, gonna keep this short and sweet! Don't forget that Pipe Plaza has expanded to include basic informational sections! These can be over just about any topic as long as you're introducing the readers to it! Or, if you'd prefer to write a wiki-based section, you can still do that too! Either way, you should head to the sign up page for more information! Zange out!

Mario Calendar

Written by: GPM1000 (talk)

Hey everyone! I’m honestly a little surprised that the ‘Shroom still exists, seeing that Mario died last month and all, but I suppose there’s no better way to honor our favorite mustached plumber (or second favorite, who knows?). Anyways, welcome to Mario Calendar! This is where I list all the Mario games that have ever come out in a certain month. Seeing as this month is April, I suppose it’s a good idea to write this about April! Let’s get into it!

And once again, that’s it for this month! I would honestly argue that this was an extremely important month for Mario games. It didn’t have many mainline titles, but it had extremely important spin-offs like Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Bros. It also had some less important but still influential spin-offs like Super Paper Mario. Overall, I’d say it’s a very good month for Mario. Too bad he’s dead. See you next month!

Poll Committee Discussion

Hello everyone, and welcome to this month's Poll Committee Discussion! It's BBQ Turtle writing the section this month, and we've got four polls to take a look at. So we'll get right to it after...

The News

Just a couple of small announcements this month. We're still making polls, and since last month, Hooded Pitohui and Ninja Squid have been keeping an eye on the committee for their two week terms. We've also run our April Fool's poll this month, and with a surprisingly high voter turnout! Despite only being up for a day, it's the poll that's managed to get the most votes this month. And while this won't cause too much of a shake up outside of the poll committee, we're looking into reworking some of the rules and guidelines to simplify some of the wording a bit. Hopefully this should make things easier for members of the committee this year and in future committees to come.

Analysis

What do you want to see in a new Mario smartphone app?

It's been a while since a new Mario based app has been released, and they've all had some mixed reactions- although the most popular option doesn't reflect that, the second and fourth place options do. Taking almost 20% of the votes in second is the option for people who would have preferred Mario games to remain on consoles and not have apps in the first place, and fourth place took just over 12% for people who don't want to see any more apps. As for what series people would like to see a app made for, Mario's spin-off series like Yoshi and WarioWare took the top spot, with almost 22% of the votes and a main sub-series in 5th with just over 11%. People have pointed out how well WarioWare games would transition to a mobile app, and Mario games are always expected to be popular in general, even if they are the sub-series. The poll also included several options for new types of games too- third place voters wanted to see an app that improves on the gameplay of an existing app, and microtransactions aside, this is usually one of the most frequently complained about aspects of the apps. The sixth place option took about 10% of the vote for people who wanted to see new gameplay entirely in a new app, while the remaining three options each took a smaller portion of the votes for an sort of new app, a social app like Miitomo, or an entirely different non game-based app, suggesting that people would rather see something more familiar in an app than something experimental.

What is your opinion on videogames being available for a limited time, such as Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Super Mario Bros. 35?

As I'm sure many of you would have guessed, not a lot of people are a fan of this kind of release model, and the results of this poll certainly go to show that! Just shy of 60% of the responses to this poll said they weren't a fan of this release model at all, while second and third place each only took about 10% of the voters each, regarding the content being available in some form after the release window and the content still being playable after it stops being available respectively. The following options focussed on limiting the number of limited release games, each taking around 4% of the total. Going to show quite how unpopular these types of releases are, the option for people who don't mind these games came in seventh place, taking just over 4% of the votes. The remaining two options are for people who have no opinion at 2.78% and those who are happy with physical limited release games but not digital ones with 1.07%. So if the results of this poll can tell us anything, people like their limited release games few and far between as well as playable in one form or another after the initial release window... if they want to see limited release games at all.

With the unexpected passing of beloved community hero , who do you hope takes on the mantle of "Super "?

With all of the voters visiting the Super Wiki on the first of April, we managed to gain plenty of insight into who the community thinks should replace the recently deceased mascot of the franchise, . The clear favourite with a whopping 1,110 votes was 's brother, Luigi , who has been a fan favourite from his appearances in the Super , Party and & Luigi series. Luigi's counterpart character Waluigi also placed highly on the poll, coming in third with 13.56% of the voters. After being introduced in Tennis, Waluigi has also been a firm favourite for his eccentric personality and stunning dancing. However, a lot of the voters felt that had made such an impact that he couldn't be replaced, feeling that the franchise would have to go on with out him. Aside from those options and the "other" entry, most of the other characters were quite closely grouped, suggesting that none of them would really be quite right to replace . There were also some interesting suggestions for replacements in the "Other" section, which was the fourth most popular option on the poll. Some of the more popular suggestions included 's archenemy Bowser, Super Land's Princess Daisy, Kirby, Rosalina from Super Galaxy, Sonic the Hedgehog (following the success of the & Sonic series) and Yellow Toad. There were also a surprising number of people in denial of 's death, claiming it was an "April fool's joke", as well as a number of volunteers willing to take on the role themselves! Well, it seems like Nintendo won't be short on options to replace in future games.

The upcoming Super Nintendo World theme park is largely Mario-themed. Which other Nintendo franchises might you like to see in future expansions?

Now that Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios Japan is finally open, a lot of people's attention is now turning to the possibility of future expansions and the versions of the land coming to other Universal parks. Of the options based on Nintendo IPs, Zelda unsurprisingly took the top spot, and as some concept art and patents seemingly linked to it have been leaked, it seems like plenty of people won't be disappointed if an expansion like that happens. Pokémon came in second ad Kirby came in third, both of which were included on early concept art for the park as well. Splatoon came a little further down in fifth, but for a relatively new series it seems to have picked up a lot of popularity, and it also does seem like it has a lot of potential for converting into an attraction. Interestingly, Metroid came out right at the bottom of the list with less than 4% of the votes- I would've thought it'd do a bit better, as it's a fairly popular series and would fit well with some of the other more mature IPs featured in Universal parks, but the low voter take suggests that maybe people would prefer Super Nintendo World to stay in a different direction. Fourth place voters wanted to see the park expand on Mario's subseries, and from the combination of Yoshi's Adventure and the teases of the upcoming Donkey Kong expansion, it seems like this is already going on, though it's hard to say if voters were aware of this and still want to see more or would be happy with this when it's complete. The remaining options all took in similar numbers, for people wanting to see a different franchise, having no opinion and seeing the park stick to a Mario theme. The last one is definitely interesting though, as it would suggest a lot of people want to see the park expand for different franchises.

Conclusion

And that's all the polls for this month! Hopefully we'll see you again next month for the analysis of our current poll and our upcoming ones too, and enjoy the rest of the 'Shroom!
