First appearance Wario Land II (1998)

Awabō is a boss found in Wario Land II. He resides inside the remains of an ancient city that have been buried at the bottom of the ocean. Normally, Awabō appears as a micro-sized creature that looks like a bubble with arms, but he can inflate himself, enabling him to grow three times his normal size with a malicious grin. Wario has a chance to meet Awabō if he manages to sink the SS Tea Cup during the second chapter. The Black Sugar Gang members who have stolen Wario's possessions will then flee into the ruins. If Big Kamukamu is not defeated in Escape from the ruins!, Captain Syrup is trapped by Awabō.

Wario encounters Awabō in the story Captured Syrup! after traversing the area leading to his chamber. When he enters the chamber, he will see Captain Syrup enclosed in a bubble, slowly flying upwards. Awabō will then appear and challenge Wario. Awabō attacks solely by bouncing on the walls, ceiling, and floor. Wario needs to jump on Awabō's head three times to defeat him and clear the story. After each hit, the boss will create a duplicate of himself that will temporarily flash, trying to confuse Wario and temporarily speeds up. If he touches the enemy (unless he is ramming, which will make Awabō turn around), Awabō will trap him in a similar method as bubbles and transport him to the top of the room. The battle has to be restarted if this happens. After Wario wins the battle, Awabō will deflate back to his normal size and flee. Wario then effortlessly defeats Captain Syrup and gets his treasures back.
