Sonic Lost World is an action-adventure platform game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, developed by Sonic Team and Dimps for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. The game was published by Sega and Nintendo on October 18, 2013 in Europe, being released the following day in Australia, while it was released on October 24, 2013 in Japan and November 29, 2013 in the US.

It introduces the Deadly Six, an antagonistic group that includes Zazz and Zavok, to the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. The characters would later appear in the Mario & Sonic series, starting with the Nintendo 3DS version and Wii U version of Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. A location from the game, Windy Hill, is adapted into a stage named Windy Hill Zone in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Gameplay[edit]

The player controls Sonic in floating tube-shaped Zones in the Lost Hex similar to the planets in Super Mario Galaxy. Unlike previous three-dimensional games in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, Sonic Lost World features controls and levels that favor movement rather than speed. Sonic can perform a variety of moves such as the Spin Dash and the Homing Attack as well as new Parkour moves like the Wall Climb and the Wall Run. Wisps can also be found in levels, which allow Sonic to use special power-ups.

Yoshi-related downloadable content[edit]

Main article: Yoshi's Island Zone

On December 18, 2013, Nintendo announced free DLC exclusively for the Wii U version of the game, featuring a new level called Yoshi's Island Zone. The level is based on the Yoshi's Island series, featuring many characters and elements from the Yoshi's Island games that do not appear elsewhere in the game.
