Tokens are glyph-shaped coins that serve as the main currency in Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. Tokens appear in every stage of the game and can also be collected by using the studied creatures and obtaining Discoveries. Golden Bugs are also known to drop Tokens if continuously struck.

While exploring a stage, the player can spend 20 Tokens to predict a certain Discovery and then spend 100 Tokens on the same Discovery to get a hint about how to obtain it. There is also a large square Token that is worth 10 Tokens. As the player progresses through the game, an Ink Shadow can appear in a certain stage and reward the player with three 10-worth Tokens if they find the designated Discovery.

There are also Blue Tokens. While those first appear as red and white rings, they become solid after pressing a ! Switch. If Yoshi manages to collect all Blue Tokens before time runs out, a Smiley Flower appears.

In Tetris 99, the Tetriminos feature the same glyphs as Tokens while the Yoshi and the Mysterious Book theme is in use.
