The 'Shroom:Issue 177/Fun Stuff
Staff Notes
Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! Welcome to this jolly edition of Fun Stuff! Though we at The 'Shroom celebrate the green dinosaur companion this month, I cannot state enough how much I adore the month of December and its winter festivities. The holiday season always brings a sense of comfort and coziness to my household, especially now that I'm a college student, returning home for these winter weeks. I hope you've been able to feel the same sense in your life, and I hope your holiday season is as fulfilling as it can be.
News-wise, there is no news! All of your favorite and familiar Fun Stuff sections are accounted for, with some of them even larger than usual to help celebrate the special issue! While we're here, however, I would like to extend my gratitude towards all of my writers in 2021. Every one of you has helped to bolster Fun Stuff towards new heights, and I'm honored to say that this year's Fun Stuff has risen to the highest quality I've seen the team throughout my time with The 'Shroom. Thank you for writing every month and supporting this community project - it means a lot to a lot of people.
With that aside, and with the next year before us, I invite you to cuddle up with your warmest blanket, get a good mug of peppermint hot chocolate, and enjoy what Fun Stuff has to offer!

Congratulations to WildWario (talk) for another first place standing, and to BananaBarrels (talk) and FunkyK38 (talk) for ranking second and third! Remember: if you like what you're reading, make sure to give it a vote!

Anagrams
Written by: BBQ Turtle (talk)
Hello everyone, and happy holidays as 2021 draws to its close. I hope you all enjoy the festive season and what this Yoshi-themed issue of the 'Shroom has in store for you! Speaking of, my random selection of Yoshi game to theme this section around is Yoshi's Story- so the answers are going to be characters, places, items, etc., from the game. Of course, if you'd like my next section's theme to be a little less random, you can always suggest one to me on my talk page or in a PM to me on the forums. Anyway, there's no need for to write chapter and verse for this introduction, so I'll let you get to the tale end of this section.
How it works... Basically, this puzzle consists of solving the anagrams. Each month has a specific theme, which will give you a clue about what sort of words or phrases the anagrams will be. I've also included the boxes that the anagrams will fit into, so you'll be able to tell how many words it will solve to be and how many letters will be in each word, which should give you a hand too. You'll also notice that within each set of boxes, one of the squares are yellow. As you solve each anagram, note down the letter which appears in the yellow squares, and if you can solve all of the anagrams, you'll also get a bonus anagram to solve from completing all of the others. I've included the letter configuration for this one at the bottom too, just to give you an extra helping hand. Best of luck!
1. ART IF ILL
2. SPHERICAL TEA
3. TACK A SKY CAT
4. YO CHOP
5. NOON BADGER
6. MEAD PERK
7. JET PLUM TURF
8. CUDDLY CANON
9. GO ON BOND
10. PAPYRUS THE PEER
11. CLAMS AT GAME
12. BOY BAR WEBS

Well, as we are approaching closer to 2022, let's hope this will be a good one, and that this year will bring us more happiness and positivity because I believe that we all need a good dose of happiness in our daily lives. Therefore, I wish you all a very nice holiday, and a good year for all of you, readers of The 'Shroom!
I hope you are all enjoying our Yoshi Issue! This month, in Hiding Koopa, you will have to find the usual five Koopa Troopas that are hidden in an artwork of Yoshi's Woolly World, a Wii U game that I loved and enjoyed. Have fun!

Picross
The last month of the year has arrived, and with it comes the special Yoshi-themed issue of the 'Shroom! Naturally, this set of picrosses is based on the lovable green dinosaur. I shall not say any more, and leave you to solving.
For new readers:
For new readers to this section, here's a short explanation about it: Every issue, you'll find two to four picross puzzles based on a certain theme, based on a Mario game, series, character, or item. If you have any ideas for themes, feel free to suggest them here. If you're new to picross, or need a refresher on the rules, here is a step-by-step walkthrough. You can also find many tutorials online. To play, download the picture and print it, or open it in a drawing program of your choice. Happy solving! |

HOW TO PLAY
Each issue, you will be given a case to solve and clues to use to help you find the solution! Use your Mario knowledge to crack the case! You will begin each case at the scene of the crime, and you will be given three clues from passerby as to where the next hot spot is and what game it’s from. Using your knowledge of Mario games and the Super Mario Wiki, figure out where the crook is and go track them down! There are four locations each round: the crime scene (1) at the start, two locations (2 and 3) with clues, and the hideout for the crook of the month (4). Answers for locations will be given with the corresponding round, for example, the clues from the crime scene will lead you to location 2, and once you open the spoiler bubbles for location 2, you will be given the correct answer. You can open the clues for each location in any order you’d like, but be careful! You may encounter an incorrect clue that could throw you off the case! Clues offered will give you a hint either about the next location or the game it’s in. Unlike a regular Carmen Sandiego game, you do not have to collect information about the crook you are tracking down. Challenge round (optional): -Find all locations and games correctly in two minutes or less -Find all locations and games correctly without using the rest of the Wiki for help |
“We’ve got another case for you, gumshoe. Carmen has taken another shot at stealing a Yoshi egg! It seems she’s determined to expand her crew of thieves by any means necessary, and anyone could tell you that Yoshis make good thieves. She’s tried this in the past before, and we were able to foil her plans, but it seems she’s gotten her hands on another Yoshi Egg. If she manages to hatch it and turn the baby Yoshi into a thief, our problems will double, gumshoe. We need you to track down that egg, and even more than the egg, Carmen herself is behind it this time! Find out where she’s hiding, gumshoe, and get that egg out of her basket!”
