Pac-Man's historyEdit

Can we talk about all of the games that Pac-Man has been in or just GP?

If you want...HK

Oooh... the possibilities... :D -Stumpers

Actually, all info should be from a Marioverse persepctive, meaning info about other games should not be included in the article. See the Zelda page for an example of a non-Marioverse character page. -- Son of Suns
SoS is right. I wasn't thinking when I approved that.HK-47 w4z h3R3

Hey in the trivia section should I state that there's a Pac-Man shape on Geno's hat.-User:UltraMario3000

No, that most likely is a coincidence. Unless it was intended to be Pac-Man, such observations are a waste of space.--Knife (talk) 05:04, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

Well ok.--User:UltraMario3000

Mr. Cookie=Retro Pac-Man???Edit

In the new game Pac-Man Party, Mr. Cookie says he has been friends with Blinky for 30 years. 30 years. And this the Pac-Man 30TH Anniversarry. He also says he ate cookies and chased ghost. Plus, Pac-Man was scared of seeing a ghost in this game. So maybe Mr. Cookie is the Classic Pac-Man?---- KoopaMan

That's an interesting conclusion, but I don't think it would be appropriate for the MarioWiki.   Mariomario64! 08:14, 22 June 2011 (EDT)

Oops. Sorry.---- KoopaMan

WhyEdit

Why is there even a Pac-Man article? He isn't a character from the main Mario series. He doesn't really get his own page unless he is part of the main Mario series. He has only appeared in an arcade game, and it wasn't part of the Mario series at all, so he really doesn't need his own page, and it should be deleted unless there is actual proof of Pac-Man in the main Mario series (including spin-offs, such as the Mario Tennis series, Mario Party series etc. but not the Wario, Yoshi or DK series).M&L Just because you're in red doesn't mean you're strong. Should we put that he is a playable character in Street Fighter X Tekken? and he rides a mokujin robot in the game   R3D347H wuz here

It doesn't have anything to do with Mario so, no. User:Whitey

Using newer Pac-Man artworkEdit

I was thinking we could use a render of Pac-Man depicting his newer look somewhere on the page, since in Mario Kart Arcade GP DX, Pac-Man uses the exact same art. Superjustin (talk) 19:06, 29 August 2014 (EDT)

I think it should be his Super Smash Bros. look, but we'll do that once the 3DS game is released.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 19:15, 29 August 2014 (EDT)

Pacmans final smashEdit

our own Pac-Man wikiEdit

maybe we can create our own Pac-Man Wiki
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rowbro (talk).

That would be up to Porplemontage, the creator of this and several other wikis.   Nightwicked Bowser

then maybe we could ask Porplemontage to make the Pac-Man Wiki, maybe on Twitter
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rowbro (talk).

He's likely not going to follow through with the request.  Xiahou Ba(the Nasty Warrior) 02:16, December 31, 2020 (EST)
Besides, the other wikis Porplemontage made including this one were created about 14 years ago.   Nightwicked Bowser

Miyamoto's quoteEdit

When did Shigeru Miyamoto ever say that quote? It isn’t cited where he said that. User:Starluxe (talk) 21:17, June 15, 2024 (GMT)

Pac-Man infobox changeEdit

Pac-Man infobox artwork continues to be changed back to the ghostly adventures look he has in GP DX. When I changed it, admittedly I used a non Mario-related artwork (which is what you shouldn't do). That said, it was changed to the Smash Ultimate design at one point but changed back to the GP DX design. I believe we should remove the smash ultimate artwork from the smash ultimate section of the article and use it for the infobox instead. The OG humanoid design is more commonly used and the most recent design for the character both in non Mario-related media and Mario-related media (If one does not consider Puck from Shadow Labyrinth to be the same character). --  Pizza Master   19:33, April 24, 2025 (EDT)

Nothing against the Ghostly Adventures design (i like the design) but yeah, it should use his most common design. --  FanOfYoshi   at 05:40, April 25, 2025 (EDT)
For simplicity's sake, I removed the Smash 4 artwork from that section and put it into the character infobox since that design is also more recent than the GP DX design. I did the same kinda thing that was done with Samus' page on this one. -- Pizza Master (talk)

PAC-MANEdit

Shouldn't the name be "PAC-MAN" in all caps? I think that's how the name is written in all of his Mario appearances. Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 04:25, May 2, 2025 (EDT)

I believe the rationale for it is akin to this old proposal. LinkTheLefty (talk) 04:32, May 2, 2025 (EDT)
It's one thing for an entire group of subjects to have their names stylised in all-caps, but PAC-MAN is consistently written like that even when no other character names are. It feels more comparable to if we were to use "Rob" instead of R.O.B. Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 05:31, May 2, 2025 (EDT)

Move to PAC-MANEdit

This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit this section or its subsections. If you wish to discuss the article, please do so in a new section below the proposal.

Rename 11-1
See section above. The preferred official formatting for the name of this character (and franchise) has consistently been "PAC-MAN" in all caps, even when other character names are in normal casing. In fact, I don't know of a single time where lowercase "Pac-Man" has been used in any of his Mario-related appearances: the Smash games use PAC-MAN, Mario Maker uses PAC-MAN, Mario Kart 8 has the PAC-MAN Suit, Yoshi's Woolly World has PAC-MAN Yoshi, and perhaps most importantly, Mario Kart Arcade GP DX uses PAC-MAN. (The first two Arcade GP games aren't much help here, since every character name in those games uses an all-caps font.) So, I don't see any reason for us not to follow this standard. We've even already got PAC-MAN Stadium written like that.

This proposal will naturally also affect Ms. Pac-Man (to be moved to "Ms. PAC-MAN"). However, it will not affect Blinky, as while there is official PAC-MAN material that uses "BLINKY", this seems to be less consistent, with Smash just calling him "Blinky".

EDIT: This also affects Pac-Man Cup, to be moved to "PAC-MAN Cup". I'm not sure why that wasn't already moved seeing as the wiki already calls it "PAC-MAN Cup" for its most recent appearance in GP DX (though as far as I can tell, all three Arcade GP games use all-caps fonts for every cup and course). Also, I did find one Mario-related source for "Pac-Man" and "Ms. Pac-Man", namely this flyer for Arcade GP 1, though it of course doesn't override the more recent in-game name. As for the other name currently mentioned on the article, "PAC-Man", I don't know of any time that has been used at all, let alone in a Mario-related appearance.

  9. CAMWOODSTOCK (talk) Makes sense to us; even if it was a stylization choice, it's one that they've made so overwhelmingly consistently (even moreso than calling Princess Peach, well, "Princess Peach", as opposed to just "Peach") that we feel like it'd be strange to not reflect it.
  10. YO-YO (talk) Per PrincessPeachFan in the other option, funnily enough. Its a deliberate design choice that needs to be reflected in the title.

Yeah, why wouldn't we? --  FanOfYoshi   at 00:32, July 5, 2025 (EDT)

On the fence for this. While I see that this character's name has been in all caps in plenty promotional material (as well as in-game such as trophy descriptions and character select in Super Smash Bros) which is a good reason for the wiki to follow suit, it's not all of them (Nintendo World Championships does not, neither does the Arcade GP flyer, although NINTENDO is all capped here!). In other promotional material, other trademarked things typically get the all caps treatment, such as Blinky and Pac-Dots and Power Pellet. Additionally, brand all caps is not limited to Pac-Man[1] so this proposal should invite discussion on why this character should reflect brand stylization but not other commonly all-capped trademarks such as SEGA, BANDAI-NAMCO, ATLUS which are also reflected with all caps in promo material and in-game too. No other wikis including Pac Man fandom and SmashWiki have all capped Pac-Man's name like this either, with Wikipedia having stylization guidelines that explicitly state that this character and brand should have standard proper noun capitalization. It should be worth asking, why is our wiki like this and would other communities agree to this if we presented these points to them?

This may not be applicable but we have also voted down on proposals that stylize game elements in favor of standard capitalization[2], as this proposal's strongest points hinges on rather the branding rather than the naming of a couple things from a game. Still, worth thinking about.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 12:33, July 5, 2025 (EDT)

This name formatting has been very consistent in all of his in-game appearances (at least the ones we cover), much more consistent than those other subjects you mention (Smash uses "PAC-MAN", "Blinky", and "Power Pellet"). Therefore, I think it's a good idea to also format the name like this for the sake of accuracy to the media we're covering. I wouldn't object to also doing this with company names that are consistently written this way, which we already do with LEGO, ERTL, GREZZO, SUZAK, K'NEX, and HAMSTER (as well as extra toxic, shu uemura, and amiibo on the other end of the capitalisation spectrum). I don't think the choices of other communities and wikis that often have very different policies and goals is entirely relevant to this discussion, especially since they're not writing about this character as the guy from Mario Kart Arcade GP. (On the other hand though, if you do wanna talk about how other wikis handle things, SmashWiki has ARMS, much like ARMS Institute itself, with NintendoWiki also following suit, and Bulbapedia's got Pokémon GO, HOME, and UNITE, as well as ILCA, Inc.. It's not like Super Mario Wiki is completely going against the grain here.) Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 14:45, July 5, 2025 (EDT)
