0.5x A Presses / Parallel Universes / Scuttlebug Jamboree
0.5x A Presses is an Internet meme that circulated around 2016 regarding a certain video that concerns the Hazy Maze Cave stage in Super Mario 64. In the video, Super Mario 64 player pannenkoek2012[1] describes how to complete the objective Watch for Rolling Rocks in half an 
button press. The video is well known for its absurdly complex analysis of the physics of Super Mario 64 and the technical manipulation of the game, though these traits (especially the former) are present in the majority of his videos. A comment by user TJ "Henry" Yoshi, "An A press is an A press, you can't say it's only a half.", has also been highlighted as a catchphrase associated with the video. Popularized phrases from the video itself include "Misaligned QPU" and "building up speed for 12 hours." The video has two variants, with one being commentated by pannenkoek2012 himself[2] and the other without the commentary.[3]
Bowsette

Bowsette is a meme which depicts Bowser using the Super Crown power-up (which, contradictory to the meme and its derivatives, can only be used by Toadette and cannot affect any other characters) to transform into a Princess Peach lookalike, stemming from a comic[4] posted on Twitter and DeviantArt by user ayyk92 on September 19, 2018. In the comic, Bowser uses the power-up after he and Mario are rejected in marriage proposal by Peach in Super Mario Odyssey's ending, with the implication that the resulting Peach lookalike got into a relationship with Mario (depicted as being during Mario Tennis Aces). The comic became immensely popular, after which the name "Bowsette" was appended to the character, to the point of the Peachette page being the Super Mario Wiki's most visited page for a time, followed by associated pages,[5] and the meme being the #1 trend on Twitter of Japan.[6] It spawned a large amount of fan art, parodies, and permutations, and ayyk92 went from just 78 followers to over 50,000 after posting the comic, having garnered over 1000 within a single day.[7]
The artist later made a sequel comic due to the original's popularity, featuring the transformed Bowser, with a cup of tea and an engagement ring, at the "Bad-Anon" from Wreck-It Ralph, to the other members' confusion.[8] Numerous other comics were also made, including one posted after Peachette was announced as a character in Mario Kart Tour, almost a full year after the original post, in which Peachette gets revenge on Bowser for the meme using a pair of Spiny Shells.[9] Two days after the actual anniversary, Haniwa posted a picture of an apron-clad Bowsette holding a cake while Mario and an upset Peach (wearing a "happy" mask) look on, an "HD" version of the original comic's final panel, and a self-made critique of the original.[10] Nintendo acknowledged the meme but stated they have nothing further to say about it.[11] On the launch date of New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, ayyk92 received a glass trophy from Niconico and Pixiv.[12]
Coincidentally, during the conceptual stages of Super Mario Odyssey's development, it was planned for Bowser to have his own version of Cappy. In one of the concepts shown in The Art of Super Mario Odyssey, Bowser is shown using his cap to capture Peach, becoming "Peach Bowser".[13] Additionally, the character Bowletta from 2003's Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga is an official incarnation of Bowser physically fused with a female character (namely Cackletta).
DK Rap
The DK Rap from Donkey Kong 64 has been subject to numerous memetic parodies, which are largely attributable to its highly quotable and allegedly "cheesy" nature (which was intentional on the part of composer Grant Kirkhope[14]). These parodies include citing and corrupting Lanky Kong's verse with emphasis on the word "he" (usually stylized as "HE"), as well as remixing the song in general, either to mock its lyrics or as a mashup with other songs (as has been done many times on SiIvaGunner's channel). YouTuber brentalfloss created a mock version of the DK Rap, describing what the five main Kongs of Donkey Kong 64 supposedly went on to do afterwards;[15] this version replaces Chunky Kong's verse with the statement that "He's dead" followed by a pause in the music, which itself became a meme.
Fat Yoshi
Fat Yoshi (also known as Big Yoshi or Beeg Yoshi) refers to official artwork of Baby Fat from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. It became popular after Tumblr user SupperMarioBroth uploaded a reconstruction of the artwork on January 13, 2017.[16] A higher quality version was found on a Japanese trading card and posted on Supper Mario Broth's Twitter account on October 2, 2018.[17]
"Fat Yoshi" is featured in the thumbnail of a YouTube video titled "BEEG BEEG YOSHI", which was uploaded by videogamedunkey on January 26, 2019. It has eleven million views as of March 2023. The video consists of videogamedunkey prank calling several businesses, including a Barnes & Noble, to ask about a stuffed animal of "the big Yoshi", and a Party City to ask an employee to search "big Yoshi" on Google Images.
On January 31, 2019, a video titled "Harassing people with fat yoshi" was uploaded to YouTube by anthpo. The video has twelve million views as of March 2023. A sequel to the video was uploaded on June 5, 2019, which has four million views.
On March 13, 2024, the official Nintendo of America account on X referenced the meme in a post that simply reads "Big. #SuperMarioRPG", accompanied by a short video of Baby Fat in his fat state in the Nintendo Switch remake of Super Mario RPG.[18]
Goomba fallacy
The Goomba fallacy describes a logical fallacy in which separate individuals of a group express contrasting opinions which are received by a third person, who concludes that the statements came from a singular, hypocritical entity, failing to recognize the persons behind each individual statement.[19] This is a specific variant of the association fallacy, and its sense is derived from an image visualizing the logical fallacy, featuring a Goombrat and a Galoomba as the commentators, and a Goomba as the receiver, who interprets the combined "stupid walking contradiction" as an amateurly-made Goomba 3D model.
The illustration was first posted on Twitter / X in January 2024, utilizing Goombas to replace Wojaks from an earlier iteration of the image.[20] Since then, both the term "Goomba fallacy" and the image featuring Goombas have seen widespread usage, especially on social media platforms.
Luigi's Death Stare
Luigi's Death Stare refers to the combination of Luigi's determined facial expression and his face's tracking his opponent when he overtakes them in Mario Kart 8 (though the expression is neither exclusive to him, being shared by Mario for example, nor did it originate in Mario Kart 8). Originally brought to attention in user-uploaded clips of the game,[22][23] Luigi's "death stare" grew in popularity when it was featured in the video "Luigi Ridin' Dirty", which set one of the aforementioned clips to the song "Ridin'" by Chamillionaire.[24][25]
The meme was referenced by Nintendo in a Japanese commercial for Mario Kart 8[26] and mentioned in the Nintendo Digital Event at E3 2014. It was later referenced in-game in Paper Mario: Color Splash by Huey after he, Mario, and Luigi arrive at Black Bowser's Castle;[27] in Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope through Luigi's Steely Stare ability; and in Paper Mario: The Origami King by the green Toad at the start of Picnic Road.[28] On October 19, 2019, Mario Kart Tour's official Twitter account posted a screenshot referencing Luigi's Death Stare in a tweet announcing Luigi's appearance in the game.[29] A Nintendo Switch News article promoting games with Luigi references the meme, stating: "From capturing spooky ghosts in Luigi’s Mansion 3 to giving other racers the stare in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Luigi has been a charismatic protagonist of many great titles."[30] Luigi can be seen in the same pose in a promotional screenshot for Wave 6 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass.
Luigi wins by doing absolutely nothing
Luigi wins by doing absolutely nothing is a series of videos depicting, as its name indicates, an immobile Luigi winning games (usually minigames from the Mario Party series or sometimes battles in the Super Smash Bros. series) as his AI-controlled opponents, who are all often set to the easiest difficulty (highest in Super Smash Bros. games), defeat themselves. The original video, featuring Mario Party 2, was uploaded on YouTube on October 11, 2009, and has over 9.7 million views as of April 9, 2026.[31]
The meme was referenced by the official Nintendo of Europe and Super Mario UK Twitter accounts, which, on November 29, 2017, both posted a clip of an immobile Luigi winning in the Mario Party: The Top 100 remake of the Mario Party 2 minigame Bumper Balls (one of the minigames featured in the original video) with the caption "Yes, it still works."[32][33] The meme was again referenced in the April 2021 edition of "Nintendo Monthly Rewind" by Nintendo of America, in which Super Mario Party's 1.1.0 update is mentioned alongside footage of Luigi's turn, at which the narrator says "But will Luigi win by doing nothing? We'll leave that part to you".[34]
Mama Luigi
Mama Luigi is a meme based on the version of Luigi from the Super Mario World television series, in particular the episode "Mama Luigi". He wears a green hat, matching overalls, and a blue shirt, and has green eyes that are sometimes cross-eyed (which is actually taken from the ending of the episode "The Yoshi Shuffle"). His favorite food is bagels and his most recurring catchphrases are "Or is it the bagel?" and "That's Mama Luigi to you."
Due to the meme's popularity, the "Mama Luigi" episode was re-animated by a collaboration of fans organized by Andrew Dickman of Electronic Heroes, with each animator recreating a different scene. The project was finished and uploaded to YouTube on August 29, 2017.[35]
New Funky Mode
New Funky Mode is a meme derived from the box art of the Nintendo Switch version of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, which features a cut-in in the top-right corner showing Funky Kong alongside text reading "NEW FUNKY MODE" in the North American version or "FUNKY NEW MODE" in the European, Australian, and New Zealand versions. Instances of the meme usually involve editing the "New Funky Mode" or "Funky New Mode" tags onto box art for other games.
The meme was referenced by the official Nintendo UK Twitter account on March 19, 2018, which tweeted about Nintendo's presence at Insomnia62 with games such as Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, along with an image showing the "Funky New Mode" tag on the Insomnia62 logo.[36]
So Long, Gay Bowser
So Long, Gay Bowser refers to one of Mario's voice clips from Super Mario 64. Whenever Mario lets go of Bowser's tail after spinning him around significantly in the boss battles with him, he exclaims "So long, King Bowser!" (formatted as "So long kinga[sic] Bowser!" by Charles Martinet when asked about the quote).[37] However, this line is frequently misheard as "So long, gay Bowser!"
In the Rumble Pak Compatible Version of Super Mario 64 (and by extension the version in Super Mario 3D All-Stars), as well as in Super Mario 64 DS, Mario instead says "Buh-bye!" when throwing Bowser a great distance in the boss battles, likely due to Bowser's Japanese name being Koopa.
Weegee
- "Weegee" redirects here. For the original character, who sometimes refers to himself as "Weegee", see Luigi.
Weegee is a widespread Internet meme based on a sprite of Luigi used for the PC versions of Mario is Missing!, which appears to have a blank stare and a hunched-over posture. This led to the creation of a vectorized image based on the sprite that became the basis for the meme. The most common use of the meme is to edit "Weegee" or his face into images to create a sense of awkwardness and discomfort. Variants for other Super Mario characters also exist, most notably "Malleo", which is derived from Mario's sprite from the same game.
Yoshi commits tax fraud
Yoshi committing tax fraud is a meme that began in 2016, when Tumblr user Druddigon responded to a list of 64 things wrong with Yoshi games (each of them being "nothing") with a claim that Yoshi has committed tax fraud. Upon being demanded to show proof, Druddigon responded with an edited image of Yoshi's Fortune Street artwork with a text bubble saying "i committed tax fraud", with no capitalization or punctuation. The meme gained traction in 2018, following YouTube channel SiIvaGunner using the meme in some of its "high-quality rip" remixes.
Coincidentally, Yoshi is the only playable character in Fortune Street to request tax exemption should the player build a new tax office on the playing board, predating the meme by roughly five years.[38]
The meme was referenced by Nintendo's official esports Twitter account on February 9, 2019, which, in a tweet about a player winning a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament as Yoshi, stated "This Yoshi is no fraud!"[39]

The icon for Aseprite is designed to resemble a Rotating Block, as confirmed in the frequently asked questions section on the Aseprite website, which explains that its icon is designed as "a little tribute to Super Mario World."[40]
Axe Cop
In "Axe Cop #0", it is explained that Axe Cop's parents occasionally put a hat on him and referred to him as Baby Mario since he was born with a mustache. The cap is shown as red with the letter M on it, much like Mario's.
BrainPop
In BrainPOP.com's Dance movie, Tim is humming "Underwater BGM" from Super Mario Bros.
Braxtanfilms
In a web comic bridging the gap between the independent film group's two Ghostbusters films, the funeral of one character is attended by Mario and Luigi as they appeared on the Super Mario Bros. Super Show.
Buzzfeed
Two Buzzfeed quizzes were promoted by Nintendo of America on their official X account. The first, titled "Which Classic N64 Game Are You?"[41] features questions that allow the player determine which Nintendo 64 game suits them best. Two of the questions pertain to Mario Kart 64 and Super Smash Bros., respectively. The second quiz allowed players to determine which "Mario" matched their zodiac sign, though the link to this quiz is not currently functional.[42]

On the artwork-sharing website DeviantArt, if a form times out and the user tries to submit it, the page informing them that there was a timeout has a 1-Up Mushroom on it, based on its Super Mario Bros. 3 appearance.
Discord
- On the home page used until June 2020, there was a ? Block which, when clicked, released one of several Super Mario objects: a coin (with a sound effect similar to that of Super Mario Bros.), a Super Mushroom, a 1-Up Mushroom, a Fire Flower, a Poison Mushroom with a black cap and red spots, a Super Star, or a P Switch with a letter "D" replacing the "P".
- The icon used to represent a server's custom set of emojis is a ? Block.
- If the server has no custom emojis, the page where the emojis would show instead displays several possible custom emojis, one of which resembles Mario.
- In the changelog for February 1, 2018, it describes fixing a bug where the app would crash if the "download update" button was clicked too fast "like a Mario Party mini game."[44]
- When viewing a preview of someone's profile, and they are new to Discord, the Wumpus character will appear on the bottom of the preview box. One of the outfits it wears is a Mario Cap and mustache, as well as one where it wears a Luigi Cap and mustache.
- When running a game or application Discord does not have an icon for in the user's Now Playing status, it will use a ? Block in place of it.
- One of the custom mobile app icons is titled "One Up", and its background depicts a grassy setting with tall red mushrooms, alluding to the Super Mario franchise.[45]
- Two of the nine loot boxes items available on April Fools' Day 2024 were the "Wump Shell" and the "OHHHHH BANANA" items, which are parodies of the Koopa Shell and the Golden Banana respectively.
- The "OHHHHH BANANA" item also references the associated voice clip from Donkey Kong 64, with a parody of it playing whenever the item is obtained.
- On Discord's "About" page, there is an egg that bears a resemblance to Yoshi's Egg.

DuckDuckGo
- Searching up Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, or King K. Rool makes the icon of Dax, the DuckDuckGo mascot, appear dressing up as that character. According to Gabriel Weinberg, founder of DuckDuckGo, artificial intelligence was used to generate the images.[46]

- In the comic section of the website, there is a comic (entitled Mario Mushroom) where Steve and Jason are walking in what Steve calls "a dangerous place". Jason wanders off and finds a mushroom. He goes back to Steve, not realising that he has dramatically grown in size.[47]
Fred the Monkey
- On fredthemonkey.com, there were polls on the home page, which were frequently updated. The August 3rd, 2007 Poll asked what kind of genre a Fred the Monkey-themed video game should be. The fifth option is "Fred Teaches Typing", a reference to Mario Teaches Typing.
- Mailbag 30 - One of the E-Mails Sceb receives concerns him getting Mario Kart DS. Later, Space Chicken enters bragging about his skills in the game, wearing a green cap backwards with a white L imprinted on it. Since then, the cap has appeared in the background of several cartoons on the website.
- Mailbag 31 - Concerning the events of the previous Mailbag, Sceb tries to get Space Chicken to come out with his Nintendo DS; apparently Space Chicken lost when he got poor items (he mentions getting several Green Shells and a single Mushroom while in fourth place). Space Chicken also shouts that Sceb snaked.
- On March 25, 2009, "Mario" and "Donkey Kong" themes were made available for the now-defunct service iGoogle.[48][49]
- For a time, if one were to have searched for the original Super Mario Bros. and the knowledge panel for that game appeared, a ? Block could be seen next to the game title, and when clicked, a coin was produced along with the accompanying sound effect. Clicking on it 100 times played the 1-Up Mushroom sound. The ? Block reappeared in the knowledge panel of The Super Mario Bros. Movie during the period before the film's release. It is still present when searching for various Super Mario subjects, such as Mario, Luigi, Bowser, etc.
- On MAR10 Day 2018, Google Maps featured Mario Kart-themed driving directions. Mario driving his Pipe Frame kart represented the user's current location. Users had to look for a ? Block next to the start button when the start and destination fields were filled.[50][51][52]

- Super NES - This cartoon was made in Mario Paint. Also, the page title "Super Homestario Bros." references Super Mario Bros.
- Strong Bad E-Mail 22 - Before checking his email, Strong Bad hums the music from the first level of Donkey Kong.
- Pumpkin Carve-nival - In this cartoon, The King of Town is dressed as Mario. When the toon is over, if he is clicked on, a secret minigame called "Super Kingio Bros." will be able to be played. The game however, is an obvious joke, as the player plays as the King of Town, who is too fat to hit any of the blocks or jump over the first Goomba. Also, when the King of Town learns that his pumpkin entry in the contest receives a "worst place" prize, he laments, "Sorry, king, but our princess is in another castle," referencing the Mushroom retainers' quote from Super Mario Bros..
- Email Japanese cartoon - In an Easter Egg viewable at the end of the cartoon, a VHS tape labeled "NES endings" can be clicked to display ending screens from various NES games, including Super Mario Bros. 2.
- Email pom pom - When Pom Pom is beating up Strong Bad, various sound effects from Super Mario Bros., such as the Coin collect sound and the 1-Up sound, are heard whenever Pom Pom connects.
- Email comic (DVD Commentary) - In the DVD commentary for the Easter Egg scene, Matt and Mike Chapman mimic the 1-up sound effect from Super Mario Bros. after Matt remarks how record store patrons are always trying to "one-up" each other.
- Store Thank You Messages - The page title, "Thank you so much for to buying our crap!!" is a reference to the Super Mario 64 ending, where Mario says, "Thank you so much for-a playing my game."
- Email stunt double - In its second appearance, the pool that Strong Sad falls into is labeled "pie factory", referencing 50m from Donkey Kong.
- Teen Girl Squad Issue 10 - The character Tompkins is apparently playing a Super Mario game on an old Game Boy during the cartoon. Tompkins says he "has Bowser on the ropes" and a red shell "pØwn"s So and So. Later on, the Ugly One says "Let's get it on like Diddy Kong".
- Strong Bad is a Bad Guy - This cartoon is made entirely in Mario Paint.
- Halloween Potion-ma-jig - In this cartoon, The Cheat is dressed as Toad. At the end of the toon, clicking on The Cheat will have him make a noise similar to Toad's "I'm the best!" from Mario Kart 64 before flying up in the air and landing with a "POOMP" as if hit by an item.
- Sbemail 150?!? - One of the storyboards of Strong Sad's email idea involves Homestar wearing a Snifit mask.
- Halloween Fan Costumes '06 - One person dressed up as Homestar (who has his head visible from the costume) is next to a person in a Mario costume. Strong Bad says to the person, "Wait a minute, Homestar, who's that in your mouth? Did you eat Luigi?" The real Homestar responds by saying, "Yes, Strong Bad, I ate Luigi. He tasted like mushrooms."
- The King of Town's Very Own Quite Popular Cartoon Show - The title character calls his men "Beezos".
- Email fan club (DVD commentary) - Homestar compares Strong Bad's drawing of Strong Mad to "one of those Thwomps from Mario Sixty-Fo'", and Mike Chapman remarks that they were considering having Strong Mad dress up as one for Halloween.
- Most in the Graveyard - Strong Mad is dressed as a Thwomp. At multiple times in the toon, he jumps and causes the ground to shake, similar to real Thwomps.
- Homestar Runner Goes for the Gold - A hidden scene viewable by clicking on the "end" title shows Strong Bad and Homestar attempting to use Mario Paint to animate the cartoon before giving up and deciding to use Flash instead, which Homestar sarcastically states is "way less obsolete".
- The Homestar Runner Enters the Spooky Woods - Pom Pom is dressed as Burt the Bashful. Pom Pom also recreates Burt's death animation after Strong Bad asks him to "provide some Mode 7".
- 2022 Costume Pack Now Available - Strong Bad is dressed as Dr. Crygor in his appearance from WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!. At the end of the cartoon, Strong Bad parodies a typical microgame by mimicking a microgame jingle and laughing like Wario. The microgame itself parodies Shaving Scream with the Stave it Off guy in place of Wario. Strong Mad also tells Strong Bad that he should have dressed as the "Disco Guy" instead.
