If an item that increases your points (such as a Gold Medal) is used, the points that Mario and his party receive will receive three times the points that they would have normally received.
Game audio is also affected by the Slow Flower:
*The background music's tempo is halved and its pitch is lowered by one octave.
*The sound played when an enemy is defeated, which is a faster, higher-pitched version of the same sound from the original Paper Mario, is played at its tempo and pitch from that game.
*The Super Mario Bros. theme can be clearly heard in the background music when the Slow Flower is used at the beginning of Chapter 3-3, The Dotwood Tree.

The Speed Flower is similar to the Slow Flower, however instead it makes everything go faster.
The Speed Flower's effects are the opposite of the Slow Flower: it speeds up the game instead of slowing it down. If the player obtains a Speed Flower during the slowed time, time will return to normal.

In Super Paper Mario, Chapter 3-3, The Dotwood Tree. Get the Slow Flower which first appears in the very first part of the stage, pause(do this so the affect won't wear out), in the music you can slightly hear the theme of the Super Mario Bros. Music playing.

“This is a Slow Flower! It temporarily slows time to a crawl. While it's active, you could earn triple points and coins!”
In-game text, Super Paper Mario

A Slow Flower is found in Super Paper Mario. If the player uses it, everything slows down briefly. In addition to jumping and running slowly, Mario's flip meter drains and refills slower. During the slowed time, points and coins that are earned earn are tripled, and if an item increasing the player's points (such as a Gold Medal) is used, the amount of points earned is tripled again. One of Count Bleck's moves has the same effect as the Slow Flower.

Game audio is also affected by the Slow Flower:

 • The background music's tempo is halved and its pitch is lowered by one octave.
 • The sound played when an enemy is defeated, which is a faster, higher-pitched version of the same sound from the original Paper Mario, is played at its tempo and pitch from that game.
 • The Super Mario Bros. theme can be clearly heard in the background music when the Slow Flower is used at the beginning of Chapter 3-3, The Dotwood Tree.

The Speed Flower's effects are the opposite of the Slow Flower: it speeds up the game instead of slowing it down. If the player obtains a Speed Flower during the slowed time, time will return to normal.
