World 1-A is the first secret level of New Super Mario Bros. 2. A payment of five Star Coins is required to unlock this level.

Layout[edit]

This level takes place in a maze of pipes, making it similar to Pipe Land from Super Mario Bros. 3. It contains one-way flippers from New Super Mario Bros., pipes that launch Mario and a few Gold Rings to grab many coins from golden enemies. At the end of the stage is the Goal Pole, which is set past four Piranha Plant-infested pipes that can be used to grab the tip of the pole.

Completing this level allows Mario to unlock a red Toad House and access World 1-Castle, skipping World 1-5.

Power-ups[edit]

Star Coins[edit]

  • Star Coin 1: The first one-way flipper (located on the floor) is blocked by breakable Brick Blocks. Going down the path will lead Mario to a small room with a red Koopa Troopa and the Star Coin.
  • Star Coin 2: The second Star Coin is located after the area with the checkpoint (right after a Roulette Coin Block). The one way flippers will block Mario's path to the Star Coin. He needs to move away from the flipper, being careful not to move out of the next flipper, until it returns to its position. Mario can now obtain the Star Coin.
  • Star Coin 3: At the end of the level, there are pipes that forms stairs, then pipes with four Piranha Plants in (in shape of a cross) and then the Goal Pole. Between the two set of pipes, there is a Hidden Block close to the horizontal pipe coming out of the stairs. Hit that block, and then get in that horizontal pipe. It will lead to a room where there is a Big Piranha Plant and a Koopa Troopa. The player can use the Koopa's shell to defeat the Big Piranha Plant, and make it safer to get to the last Star Coin.
