Power-ups give special abilities to the character receiving the power-up. Most of the abilities include changing the character's size and giving the ability to fly. Below is a list of the different power-ups found in the game of their first appearance.

Super Leaf
|
Gives Mario or Luigi the ability of temporarily flight and a tail attack.

Frog Suit
|
Allows Mario or Luigi to swim faster in any direction, and allows him to jump higher.

Tanooki Suit
|
Same as the Super Leaf, but can turn Mario in a statue for a limited time.
|
|
Hammer Suit
|
Allows Mario or Luigi to throw hammers, which do more damage than fireballs.
|
|
P-Wing
|
Similar to the Super Leaf, but allows Mario or Luigi to fly for the entire level. Taking damage or finishing the level ends the P-Wing's effect.

Makes Mario or Luigi temporarily gigantic, invincible and super-strong in order to destroy anything.

|
Allows Mario and Luigi to become a Boo, allowing him to go through fences and read Booish.

Spring Mushroom
|
Gives Mario and Luigi the power to jump higher but less control.

Red Star
|
Allows Mario and Luigi to fly. While flying, they are unaffected by gravity but can't explore freely the galaxies.

|
Rainbow Star
|
Makes Mario and Luigi temporarily invincible for a short time (same as a Star: in the Super Mario Galaxy series, this is used instead of a Star in order to avoid confusion between a regular Star and a Power Star.

|
Allows Mario, Luigi or the Toads to fly through the air and to drill (while in air) in order to return to the ground faster.

Penguin Suit
|
Allows Mario, Luigi or the Toads to slide on their belly, throw iceballs, and swim more freely (comparable to the Frog Suit). The character also has webbed feet so they don't slide when they're on ice.

Turns Mario into Cat Mario, allowing him to climb up walls and poles, run faster and perform special attacks with his claws.

Double Cherry
|
Turns Mario into Double Mario. There can be up to 5 clones of each player on screen.

Lucky Bell
|
Similar to the Statue Leaf in Super Mario 3D Land, it is an alternate version of the Super Bell. When the player Ground Pounds, they turn into an invincible lucky cat statue for a short period of time, creating coins in the process.
