Surfing in Shadow is the fourth Challenge Course within the Radiance Layer of Donkey Kong Bananza. Its entrance, which is located outside of the Oasis Observation Deck in sublayer 1023, is initially covered with rubble. A snake sits outside the entrance and attempts to mine through the rubble. A Constructone looking out towards the entrance from a window requests 1,000 gold to remove the rubble.
Layout[edit]
This section needs Donkey Kong franchise improvement. Specifically:
- Identify the Donkey Kong Bananza object that functions like a One-Way Wall, as it does not appear in the game article's objects list.
The beginning area features two Gloominoids and three Glow Stone skylights, the latter of which can be used to weaken the Gloominoids and obtain Shade Ore chunks from them. A path of thorns follows, which can be safely traversed by Turf Surfing on Shade Ore chunks. Additional skylights on this path serve as obstacles, as they cause the Shade Ore to transform into its weak form and wear away while being surfed on. The skylights on the second half of the path move back and forth.
A smaller side path covered in light leads to a separate room with moving thorns platforms that alternate between being partially lit and aligning in a fully lit line. Past these platforms is the area's first Banandium Gem. A Barrel Cannon leads through a One-Way Wall to the end of the main path of the section. Below the second Banandium Gem are two Illuminoids under skylights and a stack of crates.
The second section starts with two Gloominoids and a single moving skylight. Another thorns path follows, featuring a moving skylight followed by a rotating eight-spoked wheel parallel to the path. The path leads to a series of four spinning wheels; when lined up, these wheels create a bridge to a downhill path. This final path features shifting ceilings that create a snaking shadow leading to the area's final Banandium Gem.
