Appears in Super Mario Kodansha manga (Super Donkey Kong with Mario 2) (1995)

Cranky K. Rool is an elderly Kremling that appears in Super Donkey Kong with Mario 2. He is the ancestor of King K. Rool. Cranky K. Rool lives in Donkey Kong Island's depths for more than 500 years after the shame of losing at Picross against the Kongs. His name is a combination of "Cranky Kong" and "King K. Rool."

In the manga, King K. Rool meets Cranky K. Rool, and the latter explains why he is living in the depths of the island. Cranky K. Rool continues about how it was over a deal he made with the Kongs fifteen centuries ago, showing a picture of his younger self, which is almost identical to King K. Rool. Cranky K. Rool then decides he wants a rematch of Picross against the Kongs as 500 years had passed, making Cranky Kong realize that if the Kongs lose, they will have to live in the depths of the island. He gets King K. Rool to compete, resulting in his loss, leading to Cranky K. Rool being forced to stay in the depths of the island.
