Authentic Shaved Ice
What you'll need:

Please ask your parents before attempting an arctic expedition.

  • Ice (approx. 5 oz.)
  • Syrup (approx. 3 5bsp., any color/flavor)
  • Shaved-ice machine
  • Flashlight
  • Pickax
  • Tent
  • Hand warmers
  • Dogs (really furry ones)
  • Sled
1. Go to the South Pole

Only ice from the South Pole will do. Take whatever trains and ships you need to get there. Do not spend more than five dollars on snacks along the way.

Key point! The South Pole is really cold, so you'd better bundle up. Catching a cold will make you not really want shaved ice anymore.

After Reaching the South Pole 1. No snowball fighting. 2. No playing with penguins. 3. No petting any sea lions.

You'll be excited and want to goof off, but it's a waste of energy. Focus on the ice!

2. Dig for Ice

When you get to the South Pole, it's time to dig. If you're too close to the coastline, the ice will taste salty, so find a good spot far from the water to dig.

Key Point! The South Pole is on a continent, so if you dig down deep enough, you'll hit dirt. You're looking for clean ice, so be careful!

The ice is over 1,000 meters thick. I think the ice at about 600-800 meters down is the best tasting.

3. Make Shaved Ice

All right, time to make shaved ice! You've got a ton of ice now, so make as much as you want.

Key point! If you shave it too fine, the ice particles will stick together, so stick with a coarse shave.

Here's a pic from when I went to the South Pole and made my own. Doesn't that look good? My favorite flavor is strawberry!

Tough-Guy Sushi Rolls
What you'll need:

Please ask your parents before attempting to make Tough-Guy Sushi Rolls.

  • Cooked rice (approx. 2 cups)
  • Seaweed sheets
  • Spaghetti (one noodle, uncooked)
  • Fillings: avocado, canned tuna, imitation crab, whatever you like!
  • Sesame seeds
  • Plastic wrap
  • Sushi-rolling mat
1. Prep Your Fillings

Slice the avocado into thin strips so it's easy to roll up.

Key point! Season your fillings to add flavor. This is where I tend to find myself nibbling. Quit it!

2. Lay Out Your Ingredients

Lay a sheet of seaweed on your sushi mat, and then add the rice. Sprinkle some sesame seeds on, and then lay plastic wrap on top, flip it over, and add your fillings.

Key point! Try to make a nice, even layer of rice.

3. Roll It Up

Take care not to get any plastic wrap inside, and basically just roll the whole thing up! (I accidentally rolled myself up once, so be careful.)

Key Point! Gripping the rolling mat at the end helps the roll hold its shape better. Isn't that a great tip?

4. Preparations

And now for the main event! Cut the roll you just made into pieces a little over an inch wide, and then stick one on each end of your uncooked spaghetti noodle.

Key Point! Stab the spaghetti noodle into the filling in the middle of the sushi roll so it's nice and secure. A proper sense of security is very important!

5. Get in Shape

Grab hold of the spaghetti noodle, and lift your arm up and down to work your muscles. Look how buff you're getting!

This will make you so popular, you won't know what to do!

Key point! If you want, you can also use some kite string to turn it into a toy. And on top of that, you can eat it! What a truly outstanding dish.

Wario Bento
What you'll need:

Please ask your parents before attempting to cook Wario Bento.

  • Cooked rice (approx. 2 cups)
  • Mild sliced cheese (2 slices)
  • Eggs (2)
  • Imitation crab (1/2 a piece)
  • Olive slices (2)
  • Deli ham (1/2 a slice)
  • Seaweed (just a bit)
  • Ketchup (to taste)
1. Prep

Fry the rice in a bit of ketchup to make ketchup rice. Hard-boil one of the eggs, and make the other into an omelet. Fill your bento box with the ketchup rice! Fold the omelet into a half-moon. Slice up the boiled egg.

2. Make the face

Lay down the cheese slice and slices of boiled egg on top of the ketchup rice to make the base of the face.

  • Face and ears = sliced cheese
  • Eyes = pieces of egg white

The face will melt if the rice is still hot. Freaky!

Key Point! Cut up some seaweed to make the brows and 'stache. 🞶A pain but important: if you dye some egg blue and put it on the outsides of the eyes, it'll really look like Wario!

3. Make the Facial Features

Use ham and olives to make the facial features.

  • Nose = ham cut into an oval
  • Pupils = olive slices

Put the ham and olives on the face like so...

Key point! Cut the ham larger than you'd think, and stick it in the middle. Use olive slices as the black bits of his eyes to make them pop!

4. Make the Helmet

Use the ingredients you made during prep to piece together the helmet.

  • Helmet = folded omelet
  • Goggles = boiled egg slices
  • Accents = imitation crab, ham

Peel the crab to make some strips, and use bits of ham to finish the brim of the helmet.

Key point! Cut some seaweed to make the W.

5. Finishing touches

Stick the helmet above the face, add the egg slices, and you're done!

Yum! Doesn't that look tasty?

Key point! Use some imitation crab to make the straps and Wario it up even more!
