World 5-2 is the second normal level in World 5 of New Super Mario Bros. 2. This level contains several Lakitus, whose clouds can give the player an advantage.

Layout[edit]

Mario begins on land beside several ? Blocks, of which one of them has a Fire Flower. Moments later, a Lakitu appears, throwing Spinies towards Mario. In this level, more than one Lakitu may be present at the same time, as opposed to earlier games. Moving forward there is a Piranha Plant in a Warp Pipe. After that, there is an empty area except for a Gold Ring and some Dash Coins, causing Lakitus to throw coins instead and Spinies to automatically change into coins. Another Piranha Plant can be found. This is followed by the appearance of colored blocks which acts as platforms, and two short pipes in mid-air infested with Piranha Plants. Some orange and green colored blocks can be found along with some ? Blocks, one containing a Fire Flower. After that, a Gold Ring can be found just above an orange block and below it is the first Star Coin. Two sets of ? Blocks can be seen, with a hidden block in between which contains a Super Star. Mario then comes across a structure of colored blocks (colored similarly to a rainbow), where the checkpoint can be found. A Roulette Block then appears. Mario then has to jump from block to block to cross a large abyss, while avoiding the Lakitus. Under one of these blocks is a Gold Ring and above another is a Red Ring, sending eight red coins parachuting down from the sky. After crossing the gap, a few colored block platforms appear, ending with the flagpole.

1-Up trick[edit]

At Star Coin 3, players should stomp on Lakitu (which gives 1000 points, or 20 coins) and stomp on the next one while on a cloud without touching the ground (which gives 2000 points, or 50 coins). This can be repeated until the player stomps enough times to earn lives. This can also be done in the overworld area.

Star Coins[edit]

  • Star Coin 1: The Star Coin can be easily seen and obtained under several blocks just before the Checkpoint Flag by navigating past some Piranha Plants.
  • Star Coin 2: A pink block with a P Switch can be found just above the Checkpoint Flag. Mario needs to grab a cloud from a Lakitu, activate the P-Switch and follow the blue coins to a green Warp Pipe, leading to an area with the Star Coin, a single Koopa Troopa, a Gold Ring and yellow pipes infested with Piranha Plants. The best way to get the Star Coin unharmed and to get as many coins as possible is to collect the Gold Ring and kick the Koopa's shell towards the Star Coin. This causes fountains of coins to also spit out from each pipe with the Piranha Plants defeated.
  • Star Coin 3: After crossing the large abyss, a gold-colored block platform can be seen. Mario needs to obtain a Lakitu's cloud and go upwards from the block, following the coins. This leads to a pipe, leading to another area. Here, the ground is made up of many Donut Blocks, while Lakitus and a Gold Ring also appear. Mario will need to grab another Lakitu's cloud and travel towards the end of the area. The Star Coin can be found along the top of the area.
