Quilt for Speed is a 1-vs.-3 minigame from Mario Party 5. Its name is a pun on the term "built for speed."

Introduction[edit]

The camera zooms out, and the screen splits into two, identifying who is on which side, then the minigame begins.

Gameplay[edit]

Players must pilot their machines (a Goomba one for the solo player, a Paragoomba one for the team) to the end of the quilt by using a slot machine with arrows on it. When the player stops the arrow, their machine moves in the direction of the arrow. The solo player has a single arrow that moves their machine, while the team has three arrows that the machine takes as directions from left to right. Along the way, there are obstacles such as blocks, plastic toys, and the like that players must go around. If the path is blocked by an obstacle, or if the players are at the edge of the quilt, the machine does not move. The side that crosses the finish line first wins. If neither side gets to the finish line within five minutes, the minigame ends in a tie.

Ending[edit]

The losing side's machine springs up, ejecting the loser(s) from the machine and sending them into the air. The winning side then celebrates in front of its machine as it bounces up and down while the losing side sits next to the bouncing machine, dazed as its faltered machine can be seen in the background. If a draw occurs, both sides are ejected from their machines; they then appear dazed in front of their faltered machines.
