Lava Dome is the fifth floor in Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis. This floor is very dark, with volcanoes pictured in the background. The floor bears a significant resemblance to worlds concerning Bowser found in various other Mario games. Lava is a common hazard in this floor, often featured in the foreground, along with fire-based elements such as Podoboos and Fire Bars. Spy Guys and Crash Kongs can also be seen here. The music is a remix of the Bowser's Castle theme from the original Super Mario Bros.

The battle with Donkey Kong, referred to as Boss Game 5, plays similarly to Boss Game 1 in Room 1-DK. However, instead of dropping barrels and dumbbells, Donkey Kong will slam the ground to drop fireballs from above. After taking a hit, Donkey Kong will drop a large amount of fireballs, as well as a water droplet. If a Mini Mario comes in contact with a water droplet, it will gain a shield that protects it from all hazards on screen while in the air. However, if the Mini is hit by a fireball while still in the cannon, the shield disappears. If 30 Mini Marios are destroyed, the player loses the boss battle. After taking 6 hits, Donkey Kong is defeated and flees to Toadstool Castle.

Upon completing Room 5-DK, the Lava Dome construction kit is unlocked for the Construction Zone.

Lava Fountain

In the vast lava hazards in this game, there is a platform that moves back and forth. Often, Lava Fountains occur underneath the platform shooting it upwards through the air, allowing Mini Marios to move to another platform. Sometimes Lava Fountains can shoot to multiple heights.

Fire Blocks

From levels starting with 5-5, Fire Blocks will start appearing across levels. They work like Pink Blocks but when removed, the background starts flashing yellow and the player can place a fireball on a wood platform and burn it to access previously inaccessible areas.
