Create a category for cowhands
None at the moment.
Howdy pardners! I was taking a look at the current discussion going on in the Category talk:Pirates page, and Mario made a suggestion to create a category for cowboys (but to address to both genders, I've decided to name it cowhands).

The problem is, I don't know how many cowhands there are in the Mario franchise. The only one I can think of is Bravado, because it was from Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, a game I have played. So as such, I would kindly request that any viewers who see this proposal to add characters in the comments. If this proposal passes, a category on cowhands will be created and added to all necessary characters.

#Sparks Per proposal. YEE-HAW!
#MegaBowser64 Per proposal.
#DrippingYellow No less limited than :Category:Annelids, so I'm fine with this.
#Dark-Boy-1up I really dont see any reason not to. Per DrippingYellow.
#RetroNintendo2008 Never hurts to have more organization. Per proposal.
#PnnyCrygr On second thought, maybe it's for the best; organization allows for greater convenience of finding what character you want to find. In this case, cowhands. If this proposed category weren't there, there would be no convenient spot to find cowhand character articles.
#Mario Stick 'em up. We have pirates and ninjas. Might as well have something for the cow people.
#Camwoodstock Alright, you're now as ready as you'll ever be to experience "The Mario Wiki Category With No Name". Good luck. (per all)
#Tails777 I've been thinking it over for a while and I have supported the idea from the get go, but I do believe making sure other similar categories are organized properly first so that this one can follow suit. Cause there's a difference between being a cowboy/cowgirl and dressing up as one.
#Mushroom Head Per all, because why not

Oppose
<del>#PnnyCrygr Probably unnecessary, and I too think the number of Super Mario cowhands featured here are scarce.</del><br>
<del>#Super Mario RPG Per PnnyCrygr.</del><br>
<del>#Swallow I can't think of any western characters either. EDIT: maybe the three Paper Macho outlaws in Paper Mario: The Origami King even if they're basically dressed and named that for a theater performance, and still wouldn't be enough to warrant a category.</del>

@Opposition I take it none of you have looked through :Category:Saturday Supercade characters. Not that I blame you. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:58, January 14, 2024 (EST)

Might need a different name so it wouldn't be confused for "Characters made in Western countries". Because that's what I first thought of instead of anything related to the Wild West, Old West or Western Frontier. 01:18, January 15, 2024 (EST)
:I guess I can change it to "Old West characters". That would be better and less confusing. 08:44, January 15, 2024 (EST)
::Cowboys still exist in real life, though, that wasn't solely a frontier/goldrush occupation. That's just where they had (or for many fictional depictions, still have) the most popularity; note that some of the included characters aren't really 'old' West-themed. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 10:35, January 16, 2024 (EST)
:::Perhaps the name "Category:Cowhands" could work instead? SolemnStormcloud (talk) 11:02, January 16, 2024 (EST)
::::Maybe cowhands is the right word, but does it fit all of these characters? 11:06, January 16, 2024 (EST)
:::::Name changed to "cowhands" for the time being. If someone has a better name idea you're welcome to speak it. 20:30, January 16, 2024 (EST)

Might as well put this here. Here is a list of all characters that would be affected by this proposal if it passes (please note that I'm not super familiar with Saturday Supercade, so I apologize in advance):
* Bravado
* Paper Macho Goomba Outlaw
* Paper Macho Spike Outlaw
* Paper Macho Snifit Outlaw
* Billy Bob
* Colonel Culpepper
* Belle
* Bean (Mobile Golf)
* Cowboy Jed
* Calamity Clam

Anyone is welcome to add to this list because there are probably characters I'm missing here. 08:09, January 16, 2024 (EST)
:There's also Cowboy Jed and Bean (Mobile Golf). 20:44, January 16, 2024 (EST)
::Noted!  20:46, January 16, 2024 (EST)

Note for the above list: Please don't add in any of King Koopa's alter egos that fit the category, because the article is a list and even has alter egos that would fit other categories like Category:Pirates. 21:22, January 16, 2024 (EST)

Cull categories from or delete the various Mega Legends & Mega Man moveset redirects
None at the moment.

Full disclosure, we made this with the approval of the person currently running a proposal about the Third-party characters category. If this is an overstep for whatever reason, we can cancel this and launch it later on.

This concerns the following redirects:
Changes
* Proto Man
Move Super Smash Bros. information for crossover characters into the list articles and delete their Super Smash Bros. profiles
* Bass
This proposal concerns Super Smash Bros. information of certain characters listed in Crossover characters. It makes it harder to see the actual Super Mario content on said articles, like how the Isabelle page largely concerns her appearances in Super Smash Bros. while the actual Super Mario appearances in Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario Maker are all the way below. In the case of Villager, it starts off by showing the WarioWare appearances but then has this huge chunk of Super Smash Bros. information in between that and the appearances in Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario Maker.
* Mega Man X
* MegaMan.EXE
* Volnutt
* Star Force Mega Man
* Rush
* Beat (Mega Man)

And concerns the following categories:
Besides, the List of Super Smash Bros. fighters pages feel kind of awkward that certain crossover characters do not have their information listed there with other non-Super Mario characters, so this proposal aims to rectify that.
* :Category:Third-party characters
* :Category:Robots
* :Category:Mega Man series
* :Category:Super Smash Bros. for Wii U trophies
* :Category:Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS trophies
* :Category:Super Smash Bros. Ultimate spirits

All of these redirects exist to lead back to one spot--Mega Man's final smash. MegaMan.EXE, Volnutt, and Star Force Mega Man are all entirely identical category wise; Mega Man series, Third-party characters, Smash 4 3DS and Smash 4 Wii U trophies, and Smash Ultimate spirits. And then Mega Man X is in all of those, and also in Robots. Protoman and Bass lack the 3DS trophy category, but have the Robots category. Rush and Beat are also part of the custom special moves categories, and robots, and the rest.
The fighters on the list pages do not have their profiles, and I don't see why the crossover characters should have them but not the fighters already in the list pages, so if this proposal passes, all of that will be deleted too. This includes the Profiles section on other crossover pages like Knuckles, Deku Baba, Zangief, and so forth, since it would be illogical for them to keep their profiles but not the protagonists of the Super Smash Bros. series, an inconsistency that's already present. But the status of the SSB content in the History section of crossover content OTHER THAN fighters in the Super Smash Bros. series can be for a future proposal.

We'd get these redirects being in these categories if any of these guys had appeared in a comic or cartoon relevant to Mario like Mega Man himself did, but as far as we can tell, none of them do; they're exclusive to either Mega Man's final smash, or his Up+B move--and poor Proto Man and Bass only get to be there for Ultimate, while Beat, bless his robot bird heart, he's only here for a custom move in Smash 4! The result is that a few of these aforementioned categories just kind of get clogged with needless Mega Man's final smash or Up+B redirects--in a few cases, some of these are literally right next to one another alphabetically!
This will affect the following pages, and their Super Smash Bros. information (excluding profiles) will go into the following articles:

Now, we do acknowledge a counterpoint that we have categories for Smash 4 custom special moves, as well as Smash 4 trophies and Smash Ultimate spirits. This is way out of the scope of this proposal, but while we feel as though the trophies categories are largely redundant nowadays since we've been gradually scaling back Smash coverage to things that aren't related to the Mario series, we understand those categories do still currently exist, and they have trophies and spirits; those inclusions do make sense. In addition, in Rush and Beat's case, we understand their presence in :Category:Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U special moves entirely--they exist entirely to be the focal point of the move, and the move with Beat is literally named after him. But um... Look, we're going to be real here; outside of them being in those categories, which seem to be outdated as-is as our trophy list articles have culled any non-Mario trophies, we can't think of any other compelling category to put these guys in. Though, since they are reasonable to put them in, we have an option to retain those categories for the time being.
*Link → List of fighters debuting in Super Smash Bros.
*Isabelle → List of fighters debuting in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
*Villager → List of fighters debuting in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U
*Kirby → List of fighters debuting in Super Smash Bros.
*Sonic → List of fighters debuting in Super Smash Bros. Brawl
*Mii → List of fighters debuting in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U
*R.O.B. → List of fighters debuting in Super Smash Bros. Brawl
*Kirby → List of fighters debuting in Super Smash Bros.
*Banjo → List of fighters debuting in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
*Kazooie → List of fighters debuting in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
*Mega Man List of fighters debuting in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U
*Pac-Man → List of fighters debuting in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U

Now, while putting these things in categories is beyond us, we can understand keeping the redirects themselves for the sake of the Wiki search function--there's likely someone out there who's been getting to Mega Man's final smash by simply searching one of Mega Man's variants (or Proto Man and Bass), and Rush and Beat are valid names for Mega Man's Up-B in Smash. But having these all fully categorized feels... a little overkill, right?
There's also Samus, and there's a proposal to currently split the article, so if that passes, her Super Smash Bros. information will stay on the List of fighters debuting in Super Smash Bros. page.

And even worse, and our ultimate point here; having all these redirects in these categories where they don't really fit in causes certain categories to decay heavily in usability. Yeah, this is mostly about :Category:Third-party characters, but also the :Category:Robots category get rather gunked up because of this. Which is pretty silly when Mega Man himself is in both of those categories! So, there's a few options we can understand taking:
Note: A short summary of the character's role, or any connections to Super Mario, will remain intact, similarly to how Mario#History has a short summary on Mario throughout his appearance while the main history page on Mario is located at History of Mario.
* Remove all categories period, keep the redirects: This would effectively leave the redirects solely to catch searches. We feel this may be extreme in the case of Rush and Beat's cases, but we understand. We didn't bring it up, but the :Category:Mega Man series category is related to his Smash appearances, so those would also vanish. We refuse to comment further on the state of that category, this proposal is long enough, but uh... It's a thing, alright.
* Remove the Third-party characters and Robots categories, keep the trophy/spirit/custom move/Mega Man series categories and keep the redirects: Like the above, but we leave an exception for the explicitly Smash-related categories.
* Remove all categories and remove the redirects: The full-on nuclear option. DELETE EVERYTHING!!! This feels a little extreme, especially in Rush and Beat's case, but we figure it's worth acknowledging it.
* Do nothing: We'll just... Keep every category as they are. We don't really like this, considering Mega Man is currently linked to 9 times in the Third-party characters and Robots categories (once for his actual article and 8 redirects), but hey, we are required to have this as an option, so we're not going to decline it just because we dislike it.

Proposer: Camwoodstock<br>
There are three options: Option 1 will enact all of the changes above, Option 2 will remove only the Super Smash Bros. profiles from pages on non-Super Mario content, and Option 3 opposes everything in this proposal.
Deadline: <s>January 12, 2024, 23:59 GMT</s> <s>Extended to January 19, 2024, 23:59 GMT</s> Extended to January 26, 2024, 23:59 GMT

Remove all categories, retain the redirects
Proposer: Super Mario RPG<br>
#Camwoodstock Our secondary choice, but this definitely feels like a rather nuclear option (somehow even moreso than the "delete the redirects" one!).
Deadline: June 4, 2024, 23:59 GMT
#SolemnStormcloud <s>Per proposal.</s> Secondary choice.
#Mario These just take up space in the category. Them being redirects is also pretty obnoxious (if you're searching these on the wiki, maybe to check if they have any appearance in some obscure German comic the way Mega Man did, they're just all going back to that trivial part of the article) and I wouldn't be opposed to deleting these either.

Remove the Third-party characters and Robots categories, retain the redirects and Smash categories
Option 1: Full support
#Camwoodstock This is our primary choice, if we haven't made it clear. We do see the value in retaining those categories while they still exist in their current states, and removing them would only make sense if we began pruning Smash-related categories--not exactly unlikely, but definitely not right now, and way out of the scope of this proposal. But the Third-party characters and Robots categories should've been pruned long ago if you ask us; There's literally 8 redirects to Mega Man in these categories at the moment. Besides, even if it is true that Beat is a robot, that's not exactly helpful information when his only Mario presence is as a custom special move.
#Super Mario RPG As proposer.
#Hewer Per proposal, seeing as Mega Man already being in the categories makes the bunch of redirects a little redundant.
#SolemnStormcloud Primary choice.

Delete redirects wholesale
Option 2: Trim profiles only
#Super Mario RPG Secondary

Do nothing
Option 3: Oppose
#Axis I believe it's unnecessary.
#Nintendo101 It makes intuitive sense to just list the Super Smash Bros. info on the pages of the character when available. (As a side note, the Super Smash Bros. series has a pretty intimate relationship with the Super Mario franchise, and I do not think we should be omitting coverage here just because SmashWiki exists. We don't address topics the same way.)
#Tails777 If the characters have an article, I see no reason why Smash stuff should be singled out and removed just because it's not Mario related.
#Doc von Schmeltwick - Per all, especially Nintendo101
#Hewer It's standard practice (and also pretty logical) to list any time a subject happens to appear alongside Mario stuff. Captain N: The Game Master is a good example - it's considered a guest appearance, so it doesn't get full coverage, but we still mention things' appearances there if they happen to be covered on the wiki for some other reason, e.g. Slime (Dragon Quest). So why should Smash (where Mario stuff perhaps has a greater role than in Captain N) be the one exception? The proposal tries to argue about organisation and finding information, but I'd say unnecessarily splitting a character's information across multiple pages is the real bad organisation here. If people really can't bear to scroll through some Smash stuff in order to find what they're looking for (which, mind, might be the Smash stuff anyway), they can use the contents links at the top of the article to jump to particular sections no problem. And also, to be frank, I don't really understand what the proposal is talking about regarding "profiles".
#FanOfRosalina2007 Per all, especially Hewer's reasoning.
#MegaBowser64 Per all of yall. Personally I don't think it's a big deal to leave Smash info on character pages. There isn't much harm done.
#Sdman213 Per all.
#Jazama Per all
#SeanWheeler If we move these characters Smash information to the list of Smash characters, we might as well just delete those pages and move all information to the Smash character lists. Those lists already have the Super Mario Maker costumes anyway. But we shouldn't move them to the lists because those lists are cluttered enough as they are.

I'd move to pruning the Smash Bros redirects in categories such as :Category:Pokémon series. It'll probably happen sooner or later but worth thinking about. 12:31, January 5, 2024 (EST)
<s>This passed proposal already establishes that non-Mario trophies should be removed from dedicated character articles. Check out the bolded sentence and the rationale after it:<blockquote>It's simple. I propose to simply trim those trophies list pages to only the Mario/DK/Wario etc. character and cut the rest. This includes crossover characters that have pages on the wiki - while we may have a Link page because he's in Mario Kart 8, his Smash Bros trophy is about Link the protagonist of his own independent intellectual property and not Link the funny Mario Kart 8 man, and it leads to the bizarre situation of having a listing of Link but not the character his series is named after. Best keep things simple. </blockquote> I believe if option 3 were to win in this proposal, that decision would be overturned.</s> 15:06, May 28, 2024 (EDT), edited 15:14, May 28, 2024 (EDT)

:We saw that, and it's a nightmare. We explicitly want to save that for a future proposal, since it's way out of the scope for this proposal (which, believe us, we just made originally for Third-party characters before a category-themed rabbit hole dropped us inside it and we had to climb out of it), but in the meantime, let's play a game; how many times does :Category:Mega Man series redirect you to Mega Man after several distinct article merges? 14:38, January 5, 2024 (EST)
::I counted 28. Twenty-eight. <small>(29 if you count the Charge Shot disambiguation page.)</small> That's as many pages as most Robot Masters have hit points. Also, why do we even have redirects for Elec Man's Thunder Beam and Zero's techniques? Elec Man and Zero are not playable characters but Assist Trophies, which don't even have individual pages anymore. We also don't have redirects for moves used by non-playable Pokémon like Eevee's Take Down (nor do we need them), and I highly doubt anyone would be looking for these moves on this wiki. :::We initially counted 29 (not even including Charge Shot!), which we think is terrifying that we somehow came out with different answers (the culprit was Thunder Beam, we forgot Elec Man was an assist trophy, probably because he isn't even in this category. Poor guy.). We think the only reason redirects like the special weapons even exist is just because of legacy--awhile back (and we mean awhile back, like, pre-Smash Ultimate), Smash moves were split into their own articles. They've somehow never been questioned until right now. 15:27, January 5, 2024 (EST)
::::That's true for the Special Weapons Mega Man uses, yes, but the redirects for Thunder Beam and Zero's techniques were created pretty recently — September 24, 2023, to be exact. ==Changes==
Legitimize the usage of tabber to compare between appearance iterations of locations and minigames in general
This proposal aims to legitimize the use of the tabber template based on the two already approved cases: minigames in the Mario Party series and race courses in the Mario Kart series. Both of these pre-approved cases compare the different iterations of a minigame and race courses respectively.

I'm aware that there's been conflict and confusion over the use of the tabber template. For example, recurring WarioWare microgames have not been approved when the case for using them is very similar to the Mario Party minigames. It's difficult to determine what the fine line is, but the documentation shows a rule of thumb that's based on the pre-approved cases. If the proposal passes, this will allow using tabber solely for the purpose of comparing between different iterations of locations and minigames. The exception to this is major recurring locations that do not exist in the same iteration and form throughout their appearances, such as Bowser's Castle and Peach's Castle. Tabber will continue to be used only in infoboxes.
I was going to address the opposition by stating that, should this pass, a short summary of each character's SSB role will remain on the page (See Mario#History for a similar type of example), but the main information will be on the list of fighters pages. Super Mario RPG (talk) 16:42, May 28, 2024 (EDT)

Here are some examples of what will be allowed and what counts as "comparing between appearance iterations," if this proposal passes, and anything very similar to these cases will be allowed:
Looks like the truncation of the moves helps a lot with accessibility, like on the Villager page listed above. Pages like Fox still have excessive profiles, and it seems weird to have those there but not on like the corresponding List of trophies pages. Super Mario RPG (talk) 17:30, May 29, 2024 (EDT)
:Eh, I'd say it makes sense. The list of trophies pages are only meant to be lists of Mario trophies, but we happen to also have pages describing fighters in Smash, so why not list the trophies there where they're relevant? Again I raise you Captain N - the article about it is only about the show and its relevance to Mario, so we don't mention the appearance of Dragon Quest Slimes on that article since it has nothing to do with Mario in that context, but because we happen to have an article about Slimes for another reason, we mention the appearance there. Also, I find the "accessibility" arguments you keep going for a bit strange - there are people who might want to look at Smash information on this wiki, it's not just some burden that we have to avert people from as best as we can. 07:54, May 30, 2024 (EDT)

*Courses and rooms in a game with a remake (i.e. Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS, or Luigi's Mansion GCN to Luigi's Mansion 3DS)
Merge the name of Mario family wiki
*Microgames in the WarioWare series
Mariowiki contains content from Donkey Kong and Wario series despite Mario did not appears. Pauline is an intersection between Mario and Donkey Kong series, so she can be included in either. As independent games of the Mario family including Luigi and Princess Peach released, the name of Mariowiki will no longer be effective. luigiwiki.com and peachwiki.com also redirected to Mariowiki.
*Levels in the Super Mario games and Donkey Kong Country games
*NPC locations like Brothers Bear areas in DKC3

And just so it's clear, proposal is not about allowing the use of tabber to compare between different formats (e.g. artwork to sprites to models), and those will remain disallowed even if this proposal passes.
Since Mario is from the Mushroom Kingdom, the important thing is that they are the Mario family, so I'd suggest giving them a new name.

Edit: I think the number of images in tabber for the proposed cases above should be no more than five, meaning pages such as World 1-1 from Super Mario Bros. won't get the template.

#Arend Current wiki name is fine. It's straight to the point: it's about the Super Mario franchise, and in marketing for this franchise, characters with their own series such as Wario, Yoshi and DK are often included anyway. Something like "Mushroom Wiki" is not clear at all, and are probably even less relevant to the Yoshi, DK or Wario series, since none of their series have anything to do with mushrooms. "Kino" is also German for "cinema", so "Kinopedia" works even less (unless you're trying to say it's a pun on Kinopio rather than Kinoko, in which case that's still worse).

#Pseudo The current wiki name is simple, concise, and great for searchability. Changing it would completely torpedo that for very little gain. While separate, the Donkey Kong, Yoshi, and Wario games are closely related to the Mario franchise, and make sense to be covered on the Mario wiki.
Oppose
#Hewer The name of the whole franchise is Super Mario, a game doesn't necessarily need to feature Mario to be in the franchise. I don't think anyone is confused to see New Super Luigi U on the Super Mario Wiki. Meanwhile, they most certainly would be confused as to what the hell Mushroom Wiki or Kinopedia is even about, those names are significantly more generic and less recognisable and would create immense amounts of confusion, not solve it. This is a disastrous "solution" to a non-existent issue. (also I'm not entirely sure what you meant when you said Pauline "can be included in either" but the idea that Pauline is the main crossover between the Mario and Donkey Kong franchise rather than their shared origins and DK's continued appearances in Mario games is laughable)
#Camwoodstock While we see some merit in some tabbers, we don't really like... well, um, any of these. For "levels shared between remakes", see the state of this old revision of Bowser in the Fire Sea to see how that can backfire--if that link didn't work, it was set up with a tabber that is for Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS, yet the images provided are both Super Mario 64 DS, meaning it's functionally 2 images for the same thing; even if that were resolved in a way that was not just "removing the tabber", we don't see any substantial reason to include it when a gallery does just as good, if not better at conveying the information anyways. For Microgames, while there are some Microgames that have merged infoboxes like, say, Eject Reject where this could maybe work, it certainly doesn't# work for Microgames that function noticeably differently across their incarnations like Gold Digger that have their infoboxes split. We genuinely don't understand what is meant by "Levels in the Super Mario games and Donkey Kong Country games"--is it like Bowser in the Fire Sea above, or is it something else entirely? Nowhere is this clarified in the proposal, so we don't actually know what we're voting on here... As for NPC locations, this just kinda falls back into the remade course dilemma where the images are just too similar, and a gallery would be better fit. There are places where tabbers fit and make sense and have something over a traditional gallery, but basically all of these are not it. We've said it before, and we'll say it again; just because we have tabbers does not mean we need to use tabbers whenever one can fit.
#Super Mario RPG Absolutely not. Per all.
#Mario I'm opposed to tabber creep on the wiki. Tabber I think overall hinders usability in the wiki and has javascript issues.
#Nightwicked Bowser Per all, this would be confusing as f**k.
#Doc von Schmeltwick - Mon, just remove it from the places you shouldn't have put it. I'm tired of this.
#Zootalo Nah. Per all.
#DrippingYellow <s>Wait, if I'm reading this correctly: this wouldn't even allow tabber in just an infobox, but in any situation where locations are being/could be compared. I mean, when has an "NPC Location" ever appeared in an infobox? Besides, 99 times out of 100, a "(left) Original game, (right) remake" should suffice. Hard oppose.</s><br>My initial complaint has been addressed, but I still don't see the value in comparing levels in the infobox that are identical in terms of layout and only vary visually.
#Sparks Per all.
#Swallow Per all, because of javascript we should be strictly limiting usage of tabbers rather than using it in way more areas.
#Doc von Schmeltwick - ...why would that be better? It just makes it harder to find. Obtuse names like "JiggyWikki" and "Triforce Wiki" were chosen just because the more obvious "Banjo Wiki" and "Zelda Wiki" were already taken.
#LadySophie17 Per all. I don't like tabbers
#Camwoodstock Per all. "Mushroomwiki" makes us think of a wiki for mushroom foragers, and no offense, but "Kinopedia" make us think of a knockoff of Urban Dictionary--all things considered, we lucked out hard by having the name "Super Mario Wiki" at "mariowiki.com" ripe for the picking; we really, really shouldn't just throw that all away for something obtuse. We are not Elon Musk.
#PnnyCrygr Tabbers are the worst. All they do is hide important pictures behind the maintext.
#Sdman213 No. Definitely per all.
#SONIC123CDMANIA+&K(B&ATSA) Yeah, no. If this was just "use tabbers in infoboxes", then yeah, I would support, but otherwise no, sorry.
#MegaBowser64 What the actual hell. Do I even need to make an argument? per all
#Mushroom Head Per all. This requires JavaScript, and everyone is aware this is a very annoying requirement that some users may not have.
#SolemnStormcloud I dislike this idea! (Per all.)
#Axis Per all.
#Mario I think the wiki should continue using my name.
#Jazama Per all
#Ahemtoday These names, especially Kinopedia, are just as tied to specifically-Mario games, and make the wiki's subject much less obvious.
#SeanWheeler I never heard of Kino. And the Mushroom is the the Smash series symbol for Mario and not Donkey Kong (letters DK), Yoshi (egg) or Wario (letter W). The mushroom isn't that essential to DK, Yoshi or Wario, but Mario is a very important figure to the spinoffs. The first Donkey Kong game is the debut of Mario. The Yoshi series has Baby Mario. And Wario is pretty much Mario with the M turned upside-down and was supposed to be a rival to Mario.
#Tails777 Pink Donkey Kong Jr. Wiki, then we'll talk. Otherwise, per all.

@Camwoodstock: Levels in the Super Mario/DKC means articles like World 7-2 (Super Mario Bros.) and Barrel Shield Bust-Up. It doesn't have to be used for microgames with separate infoboxes. :...Wait, do you mean like. A tabber that'd cover both SMB1 World 1-1's appearances in Super Mario Bros., Super Mario All-Stars, Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, the 25th anniversary edition, All Night Nippon: Super Mario Bros., and even potentially its remakes in Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and New Super Mario Bros. 2? We just woke up and it's been a week, so correct us if we're wrong, but that'd be a tabber with at the very least 5 entries and potentially 8 of them. To us, a tabber is already extremely questionable when there's 3 entries--5 is literally a "gallery preview for a larger gallery that got split off" quantity of entries!

::All those URLs already redirect to this site, which I think is what Windy's trying to get at for whatever reason. As for what relevance that's supposed to have to the idea of renaming the wiki, I haven't a clue. 15:09, June 1, 2024 (EDT)
:::Windy already stated as such about the luigiwiki.com and peachwiki.com URLs in the proposal itself, directly after stating the MarioWiki name will no longer be effective (which uh, wouldn't be true given the name of the franchise; for some reason, Windy seems to think this wiki is named after the character instead of the franchise). I... think they bring it up to say "oh, we can make mariowiki.com a redirect to the new URL, like the luigiwiki.com and peachwiki.com URLs" (I wouldn't have any idea what else it could've meant). 16:21, June 1, 2024 (EDT)
:So...where's the issue? What does this have to do with renaming the wiki? 10:39, June 1, 2024 (EDT)

Tangentially related: We'd honestly just like to let the record state, in completely unambiguous terms, we personally think that in addition to the Mario Party and Mario Kart tracks it's already permitted on, the only other place we can think of off the cuff where we should put tabbers is the Thwomp article and nowhere else, because they seems to be the only thing Nintendo has 2 concurrent designs for that they regularly fluctuate between, which is like. The primary reason to even use tabbers. <small>Nothing in this proposal has been a concurrent design that Nintendo flips back-and-forth between, if we might add, which also probably contributes to our vote rationale, but it's already so long and we'd feel bad for adding onto it. ;P</small> 10:39, January 18, 2024 (EST)
Let me ask you a question: what is the name of the whole franchise this wiki is about, and covers franchises like Yoshi, Donkey Kong and Wario alike? It's not some weird merger of names, not something like "Mushroom" or "Kinoko" or even the "Mario family" (which admittedly is a better to name a wiki after than "Mushroom"/"Kinoko"). No, it's Super Mario. "Super Mario Wiki" is still a perfectly fine name for the subjects this wiki is talking about. While this wiki does contain content from the Donkey Kong and Wario series despite Mario "did not appears", there's really no need to rename this wiki since Yoshi, DK and Wario are still characters in the franchise that Mario is the center of. And so are Luigi, Peach and Toad: all six of these are always to be recognized as Super Mario characters, so even if Mario doesn't appear in some games that these others star in, the current name of our wiki is still effective and relevant. 10:47, June 1, 2024 (EDT)

Rewrite cited quotes into a new style
As an aside--so, um, do mushrooms all appear in the spinoff side-series??? We know there's mushrooms in the original Luigi's Mansion (namely the Poison Mushroom) and in the WarioWare series (they repeatedly appear in microgames), but like, are there any in the Wario Land games? Are there any in the Donkey Kong games? We aren't exactly familiar with Every Single Mario Video Game Ever Released, but like, it's not like Mario games are even defined by having a mushroom in them in the first place; both Mario Bros. games lack them, and those are literally named based on the fact that Mario is in them. 16:18, June 1, 2024 (EDT)

Proposals can be new features (such as an extension), the removal of previously-added features that have tired out, or new policies that must be approved via consensus before any action is taken.
  • "Vote" periods last for one week.
  • Any user can support or oppose, but must have a strong reason for doing so (not, e.g., "I like this idea!").
  • All proposals must be approved by a majority of voters, including proposals with more than two options.
  • For past proposals, see the proposal archive and the talk page proposal archive.

A proposal section works like a discussion page: comments are brought up and replied to using indents (colons, such as : or ::::) and all edits are signed using the code User name.

How to

Rules

  1. If users have an idea about improving the wiki or managing its community, but feel that they need community approval before acting upon that idea, they may make a proposal about it. They must have a strong argument supporting their idea and be willing to discuss it in detail with the other users, who will then vote about whether or not they think the idea should be used. Proposals should include links to all relevant pages and writing guidelines. Proposals must include a link to the draft page. Any pages that would be largely affected by the proposal should be marked with proposal notice.
  2. Only registered, autoconfirmed users can create, comment in, or vote on proposals and talk page proposals. Users may vote for more than one option, but they may not vote for every option available.
  3. Proposals end at the end of the day (23:59) one week after voting starts, except for writing guidelines and talk page proposals, which run for two weeks (all times GMT).
    • For example, if a proposal is added at any time on Monday, August 1, 2011, the voting starts immediately and the deadline is one week later on Monday, August 8, at 23:59 GMT.
  4. Every vote should have a strong, sensible reason accompanying it. Agreeing with a previously mentioned reason given by another user is accepted (including "per" votes), but tangential comments, heavy sarcasm, and other misleading or irrelevant quips are just as invalid as providing no reason at all.
  5. Users who feel that certain votes were cast in bad faith or which truly have no merit can address the votes in the comments section. Users can ask a voter to clarify their position, point out mistakes or flaws in their arguments, or call for the outright removal of the vote if it lacks sufficient reasoning. Users may not remove or alter the content of anyone else's votes. Voters can remove or rewrite their own vote at any time, but the final decision to remove another user's vote lies solely with the administrators.
    • Users can also use the comments section to bring up any concerns or mistakes in regards to the proposal itself. In such cases, it's important the proposer addresses any concerns raised as soon as possible. Even if the supporting side might be winning by a wide margin, that should be no reason for such questions to be left unanswered. They may point out any missing details that might have been overlooked by the proposer, so it's a good idea as the proposer to check them frequently to achieve the most accurate outcome possible.
  6. If a user makes a vote and is subsequently blocked for any amount of time, their vote is removed. However, if the block ends before the proposal ends, then the user in question holds the right to re-cast their vote. If a proposer is blocked, their vote is removed and "(banned)" is added next to their name in the "Proposer:" line of the proposal, which runs until its deadline as normal. If the proposal passes, it falls to the supporters of the idea to enact any changes in a timely manner.
  7. No proposal can overturn the decision of a previous proposal that is less than 4 weeks (28 days) old.
  8. Any proposal where none of the options have at least four votes will be extended for another week. If after three extensions, no options have at least four votes, the proposal will be listed as "NO QUORUM." The original proposer then has the option to relist said proposal to generate more discussion.
  9. All proposals that end up in a tie will be extended for another week. Proposals with more than two options must also be extended another week if any single option does not have a majority support: i.e. more than half of the total number of voters must appear in a single voting option, rather than one option simply having more votes than the other options.
  10. If a proposal with only two voting options has more than ten votes, it can only pass or fail with a margin of at least three votes, otherwise the deadline will be extended for another week as if no majority was reached at all.
  11. Proposals can only be extended up to three times. If a consensus has not been reached by the fourth deadline, the proposal fails and can only be re-proposed after four weeks, at the earliest.
  12. All proposals are archived. The original proposer must take action accordingly if the outcome of the proposal dictates it. If it requires the help of an administrator, the proposer can ask for that help.
  13. If the administrators deem a proposal unnecessary or potentially detrimental to the upkeep of the Super Mario Wiki, they have the right to remove it at any time.
  14. Proposals can only be rewritten or deleted by their proposer within the first three days of their creation (six days for talk page proposals). However, proposers can request that their proposal be deleted by an administrator at any time, provided they have a valid reason for it. Please note that canceled proposals must also be archived.
  15. Unless there is major disagreement about whether certain content should be included, there should not be proposals about creating, expanding, rewriting or otherwise fixing up pages. To organize efforts about improving articles on neglected or completely missing subjects, try setting up a collaboration thread on the forums.
  16. Proposals cannot be made about promotions and demotions. Users can only be promoted and demoted by the will of the administration.
  17. No joke proposals. Proposals are serious wiki matters and should be handled professionally. Joke proposals will be deleted on sight.
  18. Proposals must have a status quo option (e.g. Oppose, Do nothing) unless the status quo itself violates policy.

Basic proposal and support/oppose format

This is an example of what your proposal must look like, if you want it to be acknowledged. If you are inexperienced or unsure how to set up this format, simply copy the following and paste it into the fitting section. Then replace the [subject] - variables with information to customize your proposal, so it says what you wish. If you insert the information, be sure to replace the whole variable including the squared brackets, so "[insert info here]" becomes "This is the inserted information", not "[This is the inserted information]". Proposals presenting multiple alternative courses of action can have more than two voting options, but what each voting section is supporting must be clearly defined. Such options should also be kept to a minimum, and if something comes up in the comments, the proposal can be amended as necessary.

Users will now be able to vote on your proposal, until the set deadline is reached. Remember, you are a user as well, so you can vote on your own proposal just like the others.

To support, or oppose, just insert "#[add your username here]" at the bottom of the section of your choice. Just don't forget to add a valid reason for your vote behind that tag if you are voting on another user's proposal. If you are voting on your own proposal, you can just say "Per my proposal".

Talk page proposals

All proposals dealing with a single article or a specific group of articles are held on the talk page of one of the articles in question. Proposals dealing with massive amounts of splits, merges or deletions across the wiki should still be held on this page.

For a list of all settled talk page proposals, see MarioWiki:Proposals/TPP archive and Category:Settled talk page proposals.

Rules

  1. All active talk page proposals must be listed below in chronological order (new proposals go at the bottom) using TPP discuss. Include a brief description of the proposal while also mentioning any pages affected by it, a link to the talk page housing the discussion, and the deadline. If the proposal involves a page that is not yet made, use fake link to communicate its title in the description. Linking to pages not directly involved in the talk page proposal is not recommended, as it clutters the list with unnecessary links. Place TPP under the section's header, and once the proposal is over, replace the template with settled TPP.
  2. All rules for talk page proposals are the same as mainspace proposals (see the "How to" section above), with the exceptions made by Rules 3 and 4 as follows:
  3. Voting in talk page proposals will be open for two weeks, not one (all times GMT).
    • For example, if a proposal is added at any time on Monday, August 1, 2011, it ends two weeks later on Monday, August 15, 2011, at 23:59 GMT.
  4. The talk page proposal must pertain to the article it is posted on.
  5. When a talk page proposal passes, it should be removed from this list and included in the list under the "Unimplemented proposals" section until the proposed changes have been enacted.

Changes

Move Super Smash Bros. information for crossover characters into the list articles and delete their Super Smash Bros. profiles

Besides, the List of Super Smash Bros. fighters pages feel kind of awkward that certain crossover characters do not have their information listed there with other non-Super Mario characters, so this proposal aims to rectify that.

This will affect the following pages, and their Super Smash Bros. information (excluding profiles) will go into the following articles:

There's also Samus, and there's a proposal to currently split the article, so if that passes, her Super Smash Bros. information will stay on the List of fighters debuting in Super Smash Bros. page.

Note: A short summary of the character's role, or any connections to Super Mario, will remain intact, similarly to how Mario#History has a short summary on Mario throughout his appearance while the main history page on Mario is located at History of Mario.

There are three options: Option 1 will enact all of the changes above, Option 2 will remove only the Super Smash Bros. profiles from pages on non-Super Mario content, and Option 3 opposes everything in this proposal.

Option 1: Full support

  1. Super Mario RPG (talk) As proposer.

Option 2: Trim profiles only

  1. Super Mario RPG (talk) Secondary

Option 3: Oppose

  1. Axis (talk) I believe it's unnecessary.
  2. Nintendo101 (talk) It makes intuitive sense to just list the Super Smash Bros. info on the pages of the character when available. (As a side note, the Super Smash Bros. series has a pretty intimate relationship with the Super Mario franchise, and I do not think we should be omitting coverage here just because SmashWiki exists. We don't address topics the same way.)
  3. Tails777 (talk) If the characters have an article, I see no reason why Smash stuff should be singled out and removed just because it's not Mario related.
  4. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) - Per all, especially Nintendo101
  5. Hewer (talk) It's standard practice (and also pretty logical) to list any time a subject happens to appear alongside Mario stuff.
  6. FanOfRosalina2007 (talk) Per all, especially Hewer's reasoning.
  7. MegaBowser64 (talk) Per all of yall. Personally I don't think it's a big deal to leave Smash info on character pages. There isn't much harm done.
  8. Sdman213 (talk) Per all.
  9. Jazama (talk) Per all
  10. SeanWheeler (talk) If we move these characters Smash information to the list of Smash characters, we might as well just delete those pages and move all information to the Smash character lists. Those lists already have the Super Mario Maker costumes anyway. But we shouldn't move them to the lists because those lists are cluttered enough as they are.

Comments

This passed proposal already establishes that non-Mario trophies should be removed from dedicated character articles. Check out the bolded sentence and the rationale after it:

It's simple.

I believe if option 3 were to win in this proposal, that decision would be overturned. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 15:06, May 28, 2024 (EDT), edited 15:14, May 28, 2024 (EDT)

Okay, I'll remove that from the scope of the proposal then. Super Mario RPG (talk) 15:09, May 28, 2024 (EDT)
Wait, hold on, I may be stupid. That simply specifies that the subjects who have pages on the wiki, but do not pertain to the Mario franchise, would be among the trophies trimmed from the trophy pages, but it does not specify that they'd be trimmed from their own pages as well. I confused myself and hopefully I can clear it up following my above comment. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 15:13, May 28, 2024 (EDT)
I was about to ask about the example of me trimming the profiles from the Sonic page applies, but now I'm not sure what's going on myself. Super Mario RPG (talk) 15:25, May 28, 2024 (EDT)
That was about the lists of all trophies per game, not profile sections for individual subjects. Doesn't look like there's any overlap between these proposals. --  Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 16:14, May 28, 2024 (EDT)

I was going to address the opposition by stating that, should this pass, a short summary of each character's SSB role will remain on the page (See Mario#History for a similar type of example), but the main information will be on the list of fighters pages. Super Mario RPG (talk) 16:42, May 28, 2024 (EDT)

Eh, I'd say it makes sense. Merge the name of Mario family wiki

Since Mario is from the Mushroom Kingdom, the important thing is that they are the Mario family, so I'd suggest giving them a new name.

Option 1: Rename to Mushroomwiki

Option 2: Rename to Kinopedia

  1. Windy (talk) As proposer.

Status quo

  1. Arend (talk) Current wiki name is fine.
  2. Pseudo (talk) The current wiki name is simple, concise, and great for searchability. Changing it would completely torpedo that for very little gain. While separate, the Donkey Kong, Yoshi, and Wario games are closely related to the Mario franchise, and make sense to be covered on the Mario wiki.
  3. Hewer (talk) The name of the whole franchise is Super Mario, a game doesn't necessarily need to feature Mario to be in the franchise.
  4. Super Mario RPG (talk) Absolutely not. Per all.
  5. Nightwicked Bowser (talk) Per all, this would be confusing as f**k.
  6. Zootalo (talk) Nah. Per all.
  7. Sparks (talk) Per all.
  8. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) - ...why would that be better? It just makes it harder to find. Obtuse names like "JiggyWikki" and "Triforce Wiki" were chosen just because the more obvious "Banjo Wiki" and "Zelda Wiki" were already taken.
  9. Camwoodstock (talk) Per all.
  10. Sdman213 (talk) No. Definitely per all.
  11. MegaBowser64 (talk) What the actual hell. Do I even need to make an argument? per all
  12. SolemnStormcloud (talk) I dislike this idea! (Per all.)
  13. Axis (talk) Per all.
  14. Mario (talk) I think the wiki should continue using my name.
  15. Jazama (talk) Per all
  16. Ahemtoday (talk) These names, especially Kinopedia, are just as tied to specifically-Mario games, and make the wiki's subject much less obvious.
  17. SeanWheeler (talk) I never heard of Kino.
  18. Tails777 (talk) Pink Donkey Kong Jr. Wiki, then we'll talk. Otherwise, per all.

Comments

The point is the merging of Mario character names. The domain; Luigiwiki, Peachwiki, DKwiki (or donkeykongwiki.com), Wariowiki, Yoshiwiki and Bowserwiki have all been redirected to Mariowiki. Windy (talk) 10:26, June 1, 2024 (EDT)

Why would that need done? Especially Peach, who has two major games plus an LCD thing under her... petticoat...? (she doesn't have a belt) And Bowser, who has zilch. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 10:38, June 1, 2024 (EDT)
All those URLs already redirect to this site, which I think is what Windy's trying to get at for whatever reason. As for what relevance that's supposed to have to the idea of renaming the wiki, I haven't a clue. Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 15:09, June 1, 2024 (EDT)
Windy already stated as such about the luigiwiki.com and peachwiki.com URLs in the proposal itself, directly after stating the MarioWiki name will no longer be effective (which uh, wouldn't be true given the name of the franchise; for some reason, Windy seems to think this wiki is named after the character instead of the franchise). I... think they bring it up to say "oh, we can make mariowiki.com a redirect to the new URL, like the luigiwiki.com and peachwiki.com URLs" (I wouldn't have any idea what else it could've meant).  rend (talk) (edits) 16:21, June 1, 2024 (EDT)
So...where's the issue? What does this have to do with renaming the wiki? Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 10:39, June 1, 2024 (EDT)

And so are Luigi, Peach and Toad: all six of these are always to be recognized as Super Mario characters, so even if Mario doesn't appear in some games that these others star in, the current name of our wiki is still effective and relevant.  rend (talk) (edits) 10:47, June 1, 2024 (EDT)

For the record, Mario Family is also a bad name. Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 15:09, June 1, 2024 (EDT)

Dunno guys, I think Windy's got a point about the second option: Mario's pretty kino. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 15:28, June 1, 2024 (EDT)

But is he the epitome? If we wanna name the wiki after the most Mario adjective, we've got a better option - Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 15:37, June 1, 2024 (EDT)
If we're talking about the cream of the crop, Luigi's got two much better contenders.   -- KOOPA CON CARNE 15:55, June 1, 2024 (EDT)
  NO ONE TOPS MARIO.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 16:09, June 1, 2024 (EDT)
Guys, we're all overlooking the obvious candidate--it's literally 4/7ths of her name. ~Camwoodstock (talk) 16:18, June 1, 2024 (EDT)
DID MARIO STUTTER   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 16:25, June 1, 2024 (EDT)
We could alternatively pick any of these names. How does MarieWiki sound?  rend (talk) (edits) 16:28, June 1, 2024 (EDT)
Kinoppe's described as a follower of Dr. Mario's daughter (that was the grammar on the original article we don't get it either)! She was born because of Mario with a PhD! ~Camwoodstock (talk) 16:32, June 1, 2024 (EDT)
Actually, she's stated to be a follower of Peach and Dr. Mario's daughter. I think that's to say she's Dr. Mario's daughter and a follower of Peach, instead of a follower of the daughter of Peach and Dr. Mario (Yeah I completely agree that sentence was grammatically confusing)  rend (talk) (edits) 16:50, June 1, 2024 (EDT)

~Camwoodstock (talk) 16:18, June 1, 2024 (EDT)

I already stated in my oppose vote that mushrooms are barely relevant in any of the Yoshi, DK and Wario games. It's really only Mario-specific.  rend (talk) (edits) 16:28, June 1, 2024 (EDT)
We knew they weren't relevant to them, that's definitely not in question for us. Our question is if Mushrooms made a meaningful appearance in any of them. ;P ~Camwoodstock (talk) 16:32, June 1, 2024 (EDT)
"It's really only Mario-specific" Nuh-uh, I'll have you know this is a real mushroom inspired by the mushrooms that slide on the ground in mario games. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 17:02, June 1, 2024 (EDT)
Ah of course, excuse me for forgetting about the true emblems and stars of the DK franchise. Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 18:36, June 1, 2024 (EDT)
