Stage 4[1] is the fourth stage of Virtual Boy Wario Land, and the first boss stage of the game. It is set in a waterside cave, where the Dinosaur Fish lives.

Layout[edit]

The stage consists of an antechamber, where the player starts, and the main boss arena. Directly above the elevator at the start is a block, which can be broken with a powerful jumping barge to reveal a Big Heart. A Hidden Block containing a garlic bottle can be found below and to the right of the stalactite in front of the elevator.

After a short distance, the first guard of the game appears, which will begin to attack Wario once he approaches. The guard's only attack is to jump at Wario with its spikes; after landing, its weak spot is exposed, and Wario can jump on it to deal damage. The guard will repeat its attack until it is hit twice, after which it explodes and reveals the Jump Transporter leading through the door to the main boss arena.

The boss arena is a simple one-screen area featuring a cave on the background plane, from which the Dinosaur Fish initially attacks, and a body of water that the Dinosaur Fish jumps across to attack Wario in the foreground.

After defeating the Dinosaur Fish and acquiring its key, Wario can unlock the elevator on the right side of the antechamber and move on to Stage 5.

Second playthrough[edit]

On the game's harder difficulty, both the guard and Dinosaur Fish have faster attacks. Two Spike Traps are also added to either end of the main boss arena.
