Wario next to an elevator in Virtual Boy Wario Land

Elevators[1] take the player between stages in Virtual Boy Wario Land, acting as both the start and goal of each stage. Each elevator has a rest stop between stages where the player can play two minigames, as well as another rest stop where the player's coins and treasures are tallied. The elevators found at the end of stages have locks that require a key to enter; in normal stages, the locks have a smiley face on them, while in boss stages, they have an ornate pattern. To make the elevator move, Wario must be moved into it followed by pressing "up" on the directional buttons.
