• Yo, don't mean to bother you, but every time I try to view my User or Talk pages, I get this:

Polls

Just wondering, what happens to the polls that don't get chosen? I mean, I know they won't be used that week, but are they sorta 'on hold' for later weeks? Also, if the answer to that question would be 'no', are we allowed to submit the same poll the next week? -Moonshine

Site Notice

You remember when we used to have the site notice at the top of the page, right?(sorry, stupid question) The thing that said stuff like "The new 'Shroom issue is out" and "We now have our own article on Wikipedia" and various other news about the wiki. And, once we got our own server, and we started getting advertisements on the top and the sides, the site notice dissapeared. I felt them to be pretty handy, and maybe they dissapeared because of the ads in the way or something, but; is there any way to get them back? I felt that it would be easier to get news around in the wiki, considering that the Site Notice Banner was there, whereever on the wiki you were. I just thought it could be nice to get those back. It's for customizing the CSS code of the site. I can't teach you CSS; copy this code to your page and you can remove the parts you don't like or tweak it. I hate how light red turns to pink. This whole thing is because I won't make you an op? Really? Guess what: we don't have campaigns for channel operators. This type of thing makes you come across as needy and selfish, and can only hurt your standings. No user is entitled to a position of power; the existing ops and I keep an eye out for capable users to promote if we feel more are needed. Last Step

As you may or may not know, ScribbleWiki has completely shut down, so all of its wikis are inaccessible. Rather than making a music wiki with the MediaWiki I've downloaded, I've decided to make a new Userpedia. (Many users seem very fond of this idea.) Now, I'm on the very last step of creating Userpedia. I have a domain, server, everything I need. I have only one question.

In the file config.inc, there is a section for me to put my password and my username for the db. Could you please show me where exactly to put the db password and db username so that I can get Userpedia started? Perhaps you could copy over the section of the config.inc file, and bold the section(s) as to where I need to put my db password and db username? Are you trying to setup the database or the wiki itself? For MediaWiki all you have to do is upload its files and go to the site. There, you enter the information about the wiki and the database and the rest is done automatically. Well, I made it to the form screen. I've filled in my password, username, e-mail, domain, memcache options, and the wiki's name. The only thing that's stopping me from creating it, is when I enter my db username and db password. It says "please check username and password", or "username incorrect". Problems with the server lately

Hello Steve, do you have any idea how much your bandwidth bill costs? Just curious. :3 Eariler Wayo once said that we all have the bandwidth we need, hence the talk archives I have stored with that comment. That statement may lead me into upload more images, some having larger file size and some small. >;3 Now recently, we are having server issues right now. One of the reasons of this cause is hotlinking. Basically other websites use our images and link them to their website as theirs, what's worse is that they are sucking our bandwidth! The server! (sigh) One of the reasons alas. For more information, read this page and this page for further information. Please take the time to confront this. RAP... Me haz headache... ow. Mario Calendar

I made a Mario Calendar to go for the Main Page, and it's sorta like Wikipedia's "On this day". This calendar shows all past release dates of Mario games released on that month. For example, right now it's November so the calendar shows all past Mario games that were released on November. ...may I create the rest of the calendars for the rest months of the year, already? Creating them all at the same time seems to save some time, since when creating them at different times, you don't need to go back to lists when checking on the Internet just because that or that game was released in another month than the one you're collecting Mario data on, the same thing when looking after dates in magazines, newspapers, etc. KingMario (talk)

Anything on this wiki can be used and redistributed freely by anyone else according to the GNU Free Documentation License at the bottom of every page here. Our work is not really copyrighted in a strict sense - anyone including the Italian Mario wiki can use our content. All they have to do is cite where they got the information from as best they can. So I say to Grim80 feel free to translate anything you want from here, just try to cite that we were the original source. Poll Selection

Are you the one whose supposed to delete opposed or repeated polls in the poll selection? -

Hey, Steve! Well, I've got something to say. I think we you should enforce some new rules in the Poll Selection. Here's a list of them:

1. Repeated polls sholud be DELETED, like this one.
2. If a poll is "losing" with a certain difference of votes (could be 5 or 6, IMO), then it would be deleted too. E.g. a poll has 2 supporters and 8 opposers, so it should be deleted.
3. If a poll is created with a REALLY BAD setup, and if at least two users say that, it should be deleted too.

Userpedia

This may be asking a lot from you, but would it be possible for Userpedia to have a sub-domain of the MarioWiki, or something of the sort? Ever since the crash of ScribbleWiki, Userpedia has been bouncing from wiki farm to wiki farm, but we can't find one that's really that good. Either, the wiki farm has an image restriction, or it lacks important administrative tools that we need. Because of the bouncing between twelve (I think) wiki farms, we've lost a lot of our members. However, I have the strong feeling that, should we find a good home for Userpedia, the majority of our members will return.

We've tried Wikia, Editthis, Referata, NeoWiki, Iskey.info, and many other hosts; none of them are really good. I know this is probably a lot to ask, but we're becoming desperate; we've been trying to find a good host since September. If we can't find a good home soon, Userpedia will probably end up dying. Heyo, Steve. I don't know if you feel it should be installed, but I thought you might like to know that I found a spell check extension. This might help with any typos or bad grammar that we run across. Plus, I'm sure you could install common Mario words into the checker. Farewell, Wiki-Creating Deity

As I'm retiring, just thought I'd thank you for creating this Wiki. You probably don't remember who the fudge I am, but personally I think I failed in my time here as I didn't even make it to Patroller rank, in almost a whole year.

One reason I'm leaving is that the n00bs are overtaking this Wiki. If only they would something for MediaWiki that performs Judgement on which Users are unworthy of existence here, and then blocks them. But that would be hard to make...

Of MediaWikis and Short URLs

Hi Steve,

While I've been looking at the tutorials on Mediawiki about this, seeing as I can't seem to get it working (maybe because either I read something wrong or because the wiki installation is in the root folder) I thought I would come to you for a little server admin help. Is there anything I should be considering in order for this to work? (For compatibility purposes, the server is hosted via DreamHost, as said the wiki installation is in the root folder (that is, /userpedia.adriels.com/). Poll Page

I was wondering if i could be in charge of deleting polls on the poll selection page? I would delete polls that had majority of votes against them(like 3 more opposing than supporting), and delete polls that were repeated. I would also make sure the polls had correct grammar and spelling and setup.

Page Length Limit, Zelda Wiki Partnership

Hey there, I originally sent this message to Stumpers, but I was referred to you.

Hello there, my name is Mases Hagopian, and I'm from one of the affiliated websites here at the Mario Wiki, Zelda Dungeon. I'm also an administrator at the ZeldaWiki (http://zeldawiki.org/Main_Page) due to the partnership between my website and the Zelda Wiki. I was hoping you could help me with one issue. The MediaWiki software I believe has a set length that pages on the Wiki can be. Do you know how this can be changed? I know its different at Mario Wiki, since you guys have much longer pages. (Even this talk page is 80,000+ bytes.) If you could guide me in the right direction, that would be really nice of you.

Also, on a side note, would you be interested in integrating the Mario Wiki and the Zelda Wiki? For example, there is a lot of cross over, much because of games like Super Smash Bros. and in the Zelda world with games like Link's Awakening. Where a lot of characters and enemies are cross overs from franchise to franchise. For example a page at Zelda Wiki such as... http://zeldawiki.org/Goomba. That can link to the Mario Wiki, similar to how we have a link to strategy wiki for our game guides. (Look at the bottom of the infobox for a page like... http://zeldawiki.org/The_Legend_of_Zelda_(Game)

I think pages at the Mario Wiki such as http://www.mariowiki.com/Il_Piantissimo, where there is a Link to Ocarina of Time, or http://www.mariowiki.com/Link that is clearly Zelda related, can have interchangeable links with the Zelda Wiki.

It's just an idea I'd like to throw out there, but I'd have to discuss it with the other bureaucrats at Zelda Wiki. Just wanted to know if there was any interest. If you could get back to me on the page length issue, that would be really nice of you. Mases 15:20, 18 February 2009 (EST)

I don't know of any limit on page length; I haven't changed anything from the initial MediaWiki install that would somehow allow our pages to be longer. Password Loss

I, Shiancoe, recently lost my password to this wiki. Yoshario reecently showed me this maintenance script on Son of Suns' talk page:

Usage: php reassignEdits.php <from> <to> [--force]

    <from> : Name of the user to assign edits from
      <to> : Name of the user to assign edits to
   --force : Reassign even if the target user doesn't exist

Would it be possible at all to run this to assign Shiancoe's edits to Shiancoe2, rename my old user(Shiancoe) to something else, and rename this alternate account(Shiancoe2) to Shiancoe? Shiancoe2 (talk)

Weird Horror movie ad

O.k how come there is a horror movie ad in some of the pages, the one with the hurting daughtor thing? I thought this was a Mariowiki with nice ads not horror ads. To tell the truth, I got kinda creeped out by it when I first saw it. (Hey, don't blame me, I'm just 11 who gets nightmares) and there are younger people here. Issue: Disable google ads COMPLETELY!

Hello Steve, I have to tell you about that google adds appearing around the Mariowiki makes the site sorta slow when loading its content, and hard to save information to them, specially when uploading media files. Recently, these ads are running with flash player and this takes much longer time for a page to show all its content. I consider that these ads must be removed definitely, or at least use only the ad that appear to the right of the page. What do you think about it? ¢oincoll€ctor
